[Q] What step am I missing CWM - Droid X General

Hey guys.
Sooooo sorry if i am missing something obvious.. Im trying to do a backup after a fresh rooted .605 from Tom Tools thread.
Rooted fine. (see superuser)
Downloaded Rom Manager
Clicked Flash Clockworkmod Recovery
Chose Droid X
Said it did
Reboot into recovery just boots back to the OS.
Is there something between here and there I need to do?

just downloaded bootstrapper for droidx....now it boots to a black screen.

You must use Droid 2 Bootatrapper instead of the Droid X version.

ok thanks. got that , got into recovery... now the camera button doesnt (or any other button) select an option. i can just toggle up and down using vol keys

looks like my camera button is broken and I just called to find out my warranty expires in 6 days! I'm not usually a lucky person so that is pretty lucky for me
Will revisit this with the new phone

ok so this might have to be a new thread but.
I unrooted since it will be going back on Monday.
I need to get rid of SU and from what i read i have to sbf or use maderstcok - OTA 2.3.340 update.zip
Both guides NEED the camera button......
Is there another way?

You shouldn't need the camera button to SBF.

you need it to get to stock boot loader....
at least thats what the guide says.?

If on Gingerbread, holding both volume keys and pressing the power button gets you into bootloader mode. I believe it's different if you're on Froyo.

that worked... sbf'ing as i type this.

Can you get into recovery by holding x while turning the phone on? If you can, try wiping data/cache

After you get the triangle exclamation driod press the search (magnifying glass) on the keyboard to bring up the menu then use the volume keys to scroll and the camera button on the side to select. Wipe data and cache and you should be fine.
You won't be able to get into clockwork after an sbf until you re-root and re-bootstrap.

I downloaded maderstcok 340 and updated. I then did a factory reset and re-rooted using z4. I then tried to download the gummyjar rom using rom manager. My droid x is now stuck,on boot up,the pic of flashing 4 android figures and saying gummyjar
I suppose I need to flash back but dont k now how and need to flash from the .340
Can anyone give me detailed instructions on how to fix my X and how to flash
Try booting into moto recovery (hold down the menu button along with the power button, when the picture of the green android guy comes up, push the search button)
Do another wipe data/factory reset and reboot. If that doesnt work then you will need to sbf

Unless this guy ^^^^ works for Verizon or Moto and is holding out on the rest of the Android community... anyone can get access to the files to unbrick your phone. Check out mydroidworld for the 2.3.32 full sbf and the 2.3.34 system only sbf. If you need more help with sbf files, post back, and myself, or one of many other people are likely to help you out.
PS... to smeyers1012...unless you have "Secret files" please just offer the help in the forum... it makes it easier for everyone =) Thank you

If I'm reading this correctly ??
After reloading the Market programs, if you want to stick with the full "Maderstcok SBF".
You must do a full reboot BEFORE Rooting, Rom's, breathing, Or anything else.
IMHO kick the Rom manager to the side of the road , Again IMHO.
Then do what you wish.
When I use Maderstcok's SBF I bypass the market downloads so that I can then
get to the new Rom i,m really trying to get to.
Maderstcok SBf, full reboot, Root, Rom
Wouldn't it be the home key and power, not the menu one?

I am having issues installing the SBF for 2.2. I am getting an error message about not being able to find initialization value. Did anybody run into this error and find out how to fix it.

a) make sure your sbf is good.
b) what version of RSD lite are you using on what OS?
I got the sbf from the one attached to the thread. I am using rsdlite 4.5. It is the only one that would read that the bravo was connected. I am on windows 7 starter on netbook.

You might could try RSD 5.0
Although, I had problems with RSD on my WIN7 Vaio also that I could never get around so I just used an XP to do the job.
I gave up with win7 netbook. Used my XP desktop and it started and finished perfectly.

I flashed the linked version via rsd and have no launcher. It started briefly then went to black. Everything works just can't initiate anything. It said it was ready to dl an update after flash so I clicked yes thinking this might be motoblur...BUT, it's waiting for offpeak hours because I cannot turn on wifi. Any thoughts on the next step?
Also, does anyone have a link to the stock 2.1 sbf just in case? I'm kinda in need of my phone right now. thx

re-download the sbf in the other thread and re-flash it. it probably flashed wrong in some minor way that is messing something up.
Nahh still black. Thanks for the thought though. At least I can receive incoming calls and everything else for now. Then use the recent calls list to dial back after calling the bravo. :/

There is no 2.1 .sbf so if the 2.2 .sbf isn't working then something is wrong. If you can, do a factory data reset and reboot and then try to flash the 2.2 .sbf. see if that works.
Thanks Mcfarmfresh. Didn't want to go that route but didn't lose anything but some texts. It got me back to factory. Will try the flash again in the am.
Ladies and gentlemen, I'm proud to announce the birth of a brand new baby FroYo. Thx again Mcfarmfresh for pushing me in that direction. With Motoblur, all I lost were apps...no biggie.

HELP! I meet the same problem! How can you resolve it? Please help me!
OK I had CM7 working and then I did something stupid and bricked my phone. When I do the SBF, it goes through and then upon reboot it boot-loops. I used the SBF from the other post and am using RSD 5.0, but am not sure what else could be going wrong. I wish I could have wiped things, but when it bricked it wouldn't get to the point for me to get into recovery. I hope I didn't brick it too bad...
edit: I found a post on how to get to the recovery mode to wipe the data. If you need to wipe data after installing an sbf, press the down volume button and hold then press the power button until you see the moto symbol. after you see the exclamation point, press BOTH the up and down volume buttons together to get to the options. The last post I found was a little confusing because some people say you have to touch the bottom right of the screen, which doesn't work.

I am pressing the Power + X down, then the Search button to get to the recovery menu...
The only option I have is:
Reboot system now
apply sdcard:update.zip
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
At the bottom of screen, I am getting
error: E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command
We have the Bootscrap recovery for droid 2 loaded and it doesn't work.
Another thing I just found out is my daughter tried to accept an ota system update...This is when the problem started..

[Q] What next?

So i ended getting stuck in a reboot loop while trying to use droid x recovery bootstrap. Ultimately, i used rsd lite and sbf 2.3.320. So the question is what next? i tried to get the ota gingerbread update from verizon by updating through my phone, but it says that it is up to date. Do i need to re root my phone and flash a current version of gingerbread.
I did make a full titanium backup before is crashed my phone. I am still a little root shy after my first experience.
Try rebooting a few times and checking again. You could always just do a Gingerbread SBF if need be, though.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using XDA App
Thanks. i will try that. If i end up using a gingerbread sbf, do i need to be rooted? Otherwise, just follow the same sbf directions i used before?
SBFing does not require root, if that is what you're asking.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using XDA App
I ended up sbf back to 602 and got an OTA update to 605. Then rooted with 1 click root. Reloaded app from titanium back up.
Feeling a little more comfortable with the whole rooting thing. I think i ended up in a boot loop because i used droid x bootstrap which is not compatible with gingerbread.
So now i want to make sure i understand what i am doing. droid 2 bootstrap will prevent my stock rom from loading and instead will allow me to replace the rom manually. Once i reboot, it will boot into the new rom. i downloaded rom manager which will essentially automate to process of using a new rom.
One question though. Can i use rom manager to back up the stock 605 rom and go back to that if i want?
Hope this noob is starting to learn
You definitely should be able to.

From personal experience I have had problems with ROM manager on gingerbread...i would download Droid 2 bootstrap from the market and press (bootstrap recovery) then (OK) followed by (reboot recovery)
That should get you right into Clockwork mod Recovery without problems....then use the volume down button and go to (backup and restore) then just press your camera button to select backup...
Once finished just hit the back button and reboot and you should have a perfectly good Nandroid backup of your current system

Thanks for your help. I got the the phone running on liquid rom. Pretty cool. I guess the 2nd init roms only work on older, rooted versions for the dx? I will do a manual rom flash also, just to understand what i am doing with the rom manager.

2nd init can work on either Froyo kernel based (older) or Gingerbread kernel (newer) roms.
Check the rom's thread to find out what kernel it uses and for installation instructions.
