Bad reception - Milestone 2 General

Hi all
I've rooted and installed the miui rom on my ms2, i like the ui and the fact that the ms2 is now quite a bit faster. However, I've notice that I seem to have issues with reception/connectivity. The phone'll show 2 bars of reception but when I ring it from a landline it goes straight to mailbox.
Additionally, it won't sync correctly with gmail even when it shows it has a dataconnection.
To get the reception and data going again I throw the phone in and out of flightmode and everything's fine again. for a couple of hours...
Anybody out there that can help? My basband version is EPU93ST2_U_03.0D.00
cheers!

Same situation here but I've noticed during calls, quality isn't same of stock froyo.
Using MS2 from Vivo - Brazil.

I also have bad reception, with a custom room

Try to change baseband to original one using ms2baseband switcher. For endless cm7 rom default baseband is chinese, that means bad reception (and 2g not working ) in europe
Inviato dal mio MotoA953 usando Tapatalk

change baseband... i have to do it all the time when i flash custom ROM, maybe because all custom ROM is using chinese leak M2 kernel.

Signal problem

Hi guys, i am new to android phones and i have a i9000 but i have 2 problems. First, although my signal appears to be full ( 3-4 bars ), sometimes i can't hear another person on the phone, or that person can't hear me...it's like i'm having bad reception. The second problem is that sometimes when somebody calls me, the phone doesn't ring and doesn't turn up...nothing happens, i don't even know that i was called.
Firmware version 2.3.4
Baseband XXJVR
Kernel 2.6.35.7-I9000-CL425308
Thanks.
anyone?
Is the phone still stock, and under warrenty?
If so take it back for repair
No, it's not stock, but i belive i have a backup somewhere... if i can't send it to warranty what should i do?
nobody?

If you don't have a backup, flash a stock rom with Odin.
Already tried different modems?
No, i didn't try any modems, that's why i've asked you guys, which modem should i try to improve the signal but also to have good battery life. Thanks

You have to try cause a modem that works for me maybe is not good for you. Good luck
Ok. Here is another question: if i put a different modem, will affect it the battery life? Or the battery life is connected to the kernel version?
From what I understand, changing modems does affect battery life in terms of searching for signal. As people stated earlier, you're going to have to try different modems to find the one that provides you with both the best signal and the best battery drain. If you live in a country where many people use the SGS and you use a popular carrier, it is possible for you to determine which modem is most likely going to work out well for you. Just run a search with your carrier, model number, etc.
Are the compatibility issues between modems and kernels? Can i try any modem with my kernel?
someone?
Firstly you need to eliminate, if its a carrier issue or phone. you can try a different sim card. or try your sim in another phone...
Also what is your signal in -Db (you can see this in phone status).
Another thing you appear to be on a very old ROM, try flashing to the latest official Samsung Rom.
if all this fails then it looks like hardware issue. You could try using headphones to eliminate if the speaker and mic issue.
just think logically...I'm sure it can be fixed.
Ok...first, it's not a carrier issue because my girlfried is using the same carrier and has no problems. Second the signal strength is "-75 dBm 19 asu", but like I said, the signal appears to be full when the phone conversation is stating to have problems and I'm not walking when I'm on the phone ( the signal can not be lost by changing the place from where the phone is used )...I have 3 or 4 bars all the time...so I don't think it's a hardware problem because if it were I shouldn't be able to have good signal at all, but I do. That problem doesn't always appear.
I know that I should change the modem but I don't want to decrease the battery life. So, my questions are:
1. If I change the modem will the battery life be affected? If yes, what is the best modem for battery lifetime? If no, it is deppending on kernel:
2. Are there compatibility issues between modems and kernels?
Thanks!
the modem changes depending on the area where you are and the operators.
In italy i use i9000xxjvu and this modem work very well and consumes very little battery
Yes different modem firmware will affect the battery performance.. some are better than others..... why don't you take a nandroid backup of your current rom...and test a complete new rom with latest modem firmware..just install a stock official latest rom for test purpose. If it still bad , you can easily restore from the backup But I think if your signal - 75 DB (which is like excellent) and your having problems hearing ' speaking ... then it looks like speaker ,mic.. use your supplied headphone to answer calls..as another test , to see how it responds
if you hve stock non rooted firmwre from your carrier or for your country it is plain stupid to play with modems. samsung knows how to fit proper modem for particular region.
parameters you presented also indicates that there is nothing wrong with modem<->bts communication, signal is more than decent.
this might be a problem with some application or some previously installed application that messed up with phone.
i would advise:
- backup of any data you will need
- backup of apps
- MAKE FACTORY RESET from recovery menu or via dialpad code
- retore APP ONLY and USER APP NOT SYSTEM APP
- do not restore app data, or retore app data one by one checking if that affects your phone
if that wont hellp, youre clear to send your phone to samsung repair center

Signal problems Nexus S 4G and ICS 4.0.4

I have had my phone replaced 4 different times and I have the same problem with each one. Whenever I update to a ICS ROM (stock or CM9) my Wifi and Cell signal goes to crap. I lose 10db on my cell signal and my wifi drops a bar or two. Also, my phone seems to randomly lose my data connection and doesn't come back unless I reboot.
This really kills me because I already have bad signal at home at work so it makes my phone useless.
I am probably going back to Gingerbread because of this unless someone can help. Any thoughts?
dear i have also same problem
dear i have same problem plz give me gingerbread link to dowload that version
i am very worry about this plz help me
thanks

Try changing kernel, like AIR Kernel.

Poll for GPS issues

Hi Guys/Girls, after struggling for ages with the GPS on my Legend trying different roms and not having much luck.
I know I'm not the only one who owns a HTC Legend that is also having Problems.
I've been trying to diagnose what could be going wrong with the GPS, as it used to work perfectly up untill more recently. Ive been trying different radios V's different roms, as I have read in a lot of other threads for other android phones, the radio is supposed to match up with ril libs other wise it can cause issues, however in my time with the legend forum, i have never come accross that fact....
I've tried pretty much every combination of rom and radio available to no end, also with 3g data on/off wifi on/off, it always come back to this issue:-
I have signals and my phone see's satellites, it also uses them, but what I have noticed is that using GPS checker, it never shows up any Azimuth or Elevation data, Obviously if there is not data, no location can be calculated.
I have a theory and I need your help to see if I'm right or not.
Originally when I bought my phone it had stock eclair and GPS work as it should, I then updated to the stock Froyo which then gave me the Hboot 1.01 :crying: , GPS also worked as it should, I then rooted it using the standard Hboot 1.01 guides GPS also worked after rooting.
The only thing I have done differently recently is, I've use the HTCdev Hboot 1.02 to unlock my boot loader, I'm not sure why this would do anything to GPS?
As I rarely use GPS it's not something I took much notice of after I 1.02ed it, when it comes to technology I lean slightly towards the OCD of things, some of you may have noticed so this issue is driving me batty .
So here's the Question, for those with GPS issues, which Boot loader are you using?
Thanks for you input...
hello ranger4740,
i updated my bootloader some months ago from 1.01 to 1.02 and i unlocked it some weeks ago. These activitys did'nt have any effect to the GPS-functionality. I still believe, the GPS depends from the used ROM ...
I've had some troubles with GPS over time while using my Legend and what I've seen helps fix GPS issues (tried it on a few cyanogenmods and on a different device) is using a clock sync app (I use ClockSync).
Reasoning behind this was that when I checked the time on my phone it showed a different time then opening a console on the phone and checking the time there. Once both are synced GPS started working fine.
could it be that beta3 fried our chips?
i've tried to get a lock a few times with beta3 but i can't remember getting it...i'll try a bit more, even with cm7 and will report back to you....
EDIT: restored my cm7.2 backup and gave it a bit time and i got a lock (so no chips fried)...will go back to beta3 to try it a few more times
EDIT2: restored beta3, gps works fine...
also i had the same bootloader adventure as you had,and i'm sure that didn't effect your gps

Hi farukb, I would highly doubt that software could cause GPS hardware failure like that, but that's not 100% impossible.
CPU master and other variants are software which controls the speed of the CPU, Overclocking the CPU high and for along time can damage the CPU eventualy.
I have tried the suggestion by razy0 of syncing my phone clock, it showed my clock was -0.786 seconds out of sync, when I synced it, I instantly got Azimuth and Elevation data showing up on GPS checker, I havn't gone outside yet, but this is looking promissing *Fingers Crossed...
I don't think it's a problem of software.
I've never had problems with my GPS, and I've probed many Roms, eclair, froyo, cyanogenmod 7.1, 7.2, zeubeas beta 3...
I'm s-off, and hboot 1.02.

I had a lot of problems with the newest roms, now I use legend_crq_1.3, and the problems with Gps are gone. So I think a driver is the problem.
I have no problems with S-on and now S-off using legend_crq_1.3.
I using link2sd, therefore S-off is needed because of the mount script.
As an update, I am currently back on cm7.2.0, without repeating to much if what I put in my other thread, GPS works well with 7.2.0 and if it does stuff up it can be easily fix using the method I put in my thread...

Announcement: CyanogenMod 9.1 ICS Stable build RELEASED!

Let's go to get.cm/?type=stable
You can see cm-9.1.0-p1.zip (cm-9.1.0-p1c.zip)
for GSM (P1) and CDMA (P1c)
What's the difference? And is It available for the P1000N?

Let’s try something new: CM9.1 and SimplyTapp
Seems like the main change is the inclusion of NFC payment. The blog post also mentioned bugfixes but there's no detail about them.

NFC is not for our device.

I'm well aware that the P1000 doesn't support NFC. It is stated in the article that NFC is only for compatible handsets anyway. Maybe I shouldn't have linked a general CM9 article in a device specific forum, but.... meh
Difference with cm9 rc1
hello,
Im very much interested with this new rom. I would just like to know what are the major differences with this new rom, compared to the cm9 rc1? tried searching for details about this new rom, but couldnt find any. I use the cm9 rc1 as a daily driver. It has worked for me very well, although there are minor errors (which is another topic). Pls let me know, so I can decide whether to try this out or not. thanks very much.
Been running it for two days now. Nice and stable.

Been runnigng 9.0 for 1 week with no (major) problems. Upgraded to 9.1 and 3g umts signal strength was shown as missing most of the time with no calls, sms or data connection possible. Reverted to 9.0 and 3g got back working. Will try again in a few days....
Among the other issues I have with 9.0:
- light sensor doesn't seem right (and androsensor cannot report it at all)
- proximity sensor doesn't seem right either but I'm no longer sure that the P1000 has one, will check on another P1000 still on samsung fw 2.3.3
Installed CM 9.1, working fine for me. However, I installed 20120831 Gapps, and they are working fine for me except Google Play - keeps returning 'server error' when trying to connect. Any ideas? What version of Gapps are you guys using (link please)?
Also, I came to CM 9.1 from CM 10 nightly build, no problems flashing. But now I can't seem to be able to flash CM 10; it reboots during flashing process. Do I need to go back to stock ROM with Odin or something?
Just flashing my rc1 cm9 to the latest stable 9.1. Gchrome still force close

If I may, I'd like to ask how long will your battery last from full recharge on a regular use? By regular I mean, a few games here and there, auto sync enabled, wifi on for 70% of the time, and using Mobile data when there's no wifi.
I would like to benchmark my tab's battery performance against other users.
Thanks,
Griffith

Wifi Problems
hello guys,
i admit im a noob at these kinda stuff but pls hear me out
i've flashed my fathers tab using the overcome method up to the part or flash the actual rom thats when i changed it and flashed cm9 stable
the rom is awesome, ive used it on my galaxy s and it worked fine but on the tab i've found two problems
1- i cant get access the wifi settings, i press the wifi and nothing shows up, and although it gets connected somehow, it doesnt show on the bar that im connected , the internet is very slow and i cant access google play
2- the tab for some reason i dont understand is getting hotter thaan usual specailly on the right side (where the power and volume control buttons), ive changed the cpu governor to on demand but it is still a bit warm
the most important thing is how to fix the wifi,
its the regular international galaxy tab p1000 / p1

For chrome see this.
Can you confirm if you have also these issues:
- light sensor not working (eg. go to system settings-display-use custom levels and edit levels: the top left readings don't change with light conditions; or test with "androsensor")
- proximity sensor missing (according to "androsensor")
- stock sound recorder app missing (there is a sound recorder apk in /system/app though, but I can't figure out how to use it)
- torch not working/stock torch app missing
- frequent FCs with camera app
BTW do you know if there is an official discussion thread for cm9/p1 issues?
Battery Drain fixed?
With CM 9.1 I think the battery drain from 9.0 was kinda fixed, especially when connected to wi-fi. There are some small bugs like the wi-fi switch (it is on after booting but the wi-fi is turned off. Still smooth and grear UI. Love ICS!
Apparently there's a new nightly release both for p1 and p1n

Yotaphone 2 warm/heat ???

Hello!
I've jut got my yotaphone YD206 with CN rom, i flashed to EU rom. I love this phone.
My problem is the top half of the phone is really warm/hot. Is it normal ? I though its the CPU or the WIFI.
Any opinion ?
Thanks (Sorry my english)
Lollipop is buggy, that does not help...

Lollipop is indeed buggy, and one of the most serious bugs is that the radios is allways ON even if the WiFi is set to be disabled when screen off, that makes the Lollipop battery suck. Actually there's lots of bugs in Lollipop and that's to blame Google, lately has been really lame, since KitKat at least. KitKat is way superior but unfortunately the EPD implementation on KitKat is subpar. Yota as it seems has the intention of releasing the Marshmallow version, and it's now on Beta, so let's finger cross and wait for the best.
People here over XDA forums also come to check informations so they can install the latest Firmwares, and sometimes they don't know there's several models of YotaPhone 2 basically distinction being the radio frequencies they can work, so it's important that you use your device correct radio when using other firmwares, for example my Phone is from HongKong and I use the /radio files from the latest HongKong firmware, no matter if I am installing a Russian or European firmware. The wrong radio makes your phone use more battery and lost connection.

Root and install No-frills CPU Control is your solution :good: More details here : https://youtu.be/vOiAMsxq578
I have had same problem with the phone heating up badly last weeks time, this is the Yotaphone 2 206 model kitkat 4.4.4 , not rooted or anything, just as out of the box, it would randomly heat up so bad that it would switch itself off and not turn on again until cooled down, it seemed to get better after turning off location service but that could be coincidene
Marshmallow ROM overall is working well, I advice anyone that is not happy with KitKat to run Marshmallow, Lollipop is a disaster. Just remember that if you have a YD206 you should use the China radio or a little better the Hybrid Baseband created by some users. About the battery time, KitKkat and Marshmallow are the best ones, Just keep in mind that location services and Wifi always scanning uses too much battery. If you know how to use Tasker, you can program it to use data services only each 20 minutes or so when screen is off, making it idle for each 20 minutes with no data connection will make you battery really last longer, then make a rule to auto turn data on when screen on, make a tasker to get wifi on when you are at home and to disable wifi when you are out, with tasker or similar app you can make pretty much everything possible!
I use this to stop wifi out of home.
Easy to use and no root required.
