Android on LG E900? - Optimus 7 General

Hello
Will there ever be the chance to get Android on this telephone?
I'm really annoyed of WP7 and want Android.
With best regards

No. I doubt there'd ever be even an effort to get Android running on the E900.

Why would you do that? It would run slowly as a slug. Everyone knows Android needs a quad core CPU and 8 Gigs of RAM to run at a decent degree.

Yeah, I'm annoyed too since I bought WP7, but I don't think there'll be an Android platform
Microsoft should cut the crap, and wake up and develop finally a serious update.

It's too much bloat in Android for it to run smooth on LG Optimus 7, sorry...

There are many cheap android devices, why don't you buy one? I think that optimus 7 is made to work only on WP7.

Well, for now its going to be a No NO, why because the developers have very limited access to phones architecture and the xips. At this stage even the apps for wp7 have very limited functionality, for example most WP7 have a digital compass but as of yet no application effectively utilises this feature. However, with the progression of time and new updates coming in we shall see marginal improvement in the WP7 ecosystem. Who knows that some xda developer might be able to emulate android on wp7 and consequently on Omnia 7 as well.

I hope this will soon be possible. I feel really cheated with my WP7. I can't believe Microsoft can get away with this. I am stuck with a 2 year plan, Omnia 7 trade in price dropped so low, and I have to pay the telco a big penalty if I change phone now.
I'd rather give my money to the developers who can give Android on Omnia 7.
yes i agree with you about the feeling cheated by microsoft they gave the impression of many minor updates as they became available not one or twice a year i cant wait for omnia 7 to be hacked to run android.
on a different note will it ever be possable to create a emulator for wp7 that can mount a iphone app ?
Why people want Android to all phones? Boring...
If the people want android, why they don't bay an android Phone?
why?
Im happy on WP and can't see the reason for using Android. I read a lot before buying my Omnia 7 and dont feel cheated therefore. Mango will be the start for regular users and this close to the update, it would seem like a lot of work for nothing. WP is a more modern plattform so why go backwards, in that case buy a Android device instead.
Android dev for HD2 was understanble, a lot of problems with WM OS made it easyer for daylie users to get a stable phone. Android was a new and better platform in terms of stability.
WP today just works, and Mango will make it complete, or cloae to it.
I find this query odd too. I can understand it if it is the HD2 forum or any WM6.x devices.
There are tons of Android devices with specs equal or superior to the Omnia 7 (like the Galaxy S2). So why bother asking to put Android on the Omnia 7? Just get an Android device.
If it is possible, sounds great.but android gives me a very bad user experience, and I used to have a pocket pc and an android device,I bought wp7 all because of its new UI,and power hardware, these improve the experience.just as what I said,I do not like android, even android on omnia7 is possible.
You should go buy Galaxy S II instead.
Android for omnia7? I'm in! Will donate, how much?
news about android on omnia?
with WP7 Downloader Ver 7.41 for Publish (Add OASIS Latin).rar we should be able to inject android into i8700 veins (as well as ios, probably)
Is something new in this thread ?
No obviously not. The last post was last year. There's not going to be Android on Omnia7 at all.

Omnia 7 and Focus are now old enough to be cheaper than equivalent android phones. a 2nd hand HD2 cost about $250 on ebay because everyone who knows about what it can do wants one to play with still. the Samsung Focus costs approx $130.
So if you can run android on it. the resale value of your samsung focus (and omnia 7 because it is similar hardware) will increase.
Guys, you bought yourself a WP, because you wanted a WP.
So, why even start thinking about Android?
Yes, I know, my signature, says, that I've go a Droid. I'd actually prefer a WP, a Samsung WP, to be exact...
I only took an Android, because the German Telecom doesn't have any Samsung WP's anymore...
Back to the point;
WHO CARE'S ABOUT ANDROID??? IT'S CRAP!!!
Believe, me, I'm using one... -.-"

I'm sure everyone is entitled to an opinion, it seems obvious that the people who are asking for android prefer android. I imagine some people may have bought a WP7 phone thinking it would have more development or more apps or just be different, and now would like to see android developed on the device.
I own a HD2, a phone that runs pretty much every OS and I have installed WP7 and Android (aswell as the stock WM6.5). Originally I liked WM6.5 and the mods for that, android was not for me ... infact when WP7 came out I was tempted to get a new phone, when WP7 was made available for HD2 I tried it and my personal opinion is what it does it does well, but it is very limited and closed. My opinion on android has now changed with developments and apps etc and now my phone stays in android mode 99% of the time.
I know people who own the omnia 7 , and as a result i often check here every so often. I thought the idea of this site was development - now you (and various others) may think that development should be limited to the OS that the phone originally came with, but using that logic my beloved HD2 would most likely be gathering dust right about now...

[Q] Why LG E900 Optimus 7 could not work with Android

I do not understand how LG Optimus P920 3D Optimus, Optimus 2X, Optimus Mach LU3000, Black Optimus, Optimus Me P350, Revolution... working on OS Android , LG E900 Optimus7 can not, which is the difference and reason that can not be installed on Android optimus7
No one said it cannot be done. It can probably be done, seeing how all WP7 devices share similar hardware to the HTC Desire-derivative phones. However, the LG Optimus 7 is a Windows Phone, and ships with Windows Phone 7 as its operating system. That is the end of it. All the phones you mentioned from LG come with Android as its operating system. I suggest if you prefer Android to WP7, do not bother with LG Optimus 7.
PS: I tried to answer this as calmly as possibly without breaking my keyboard...
Ok kapanak I am not asked to crush keyboard than you actually did not ask anything, if I want Android and Android will buy, I just wondered if anyone could give me a explanation may which is the difference because I see that some LG phone using Android and I wondered why LG E900 Optimus 7 does not. ate different from the others and uses a different hardware. The LG E900 is the perfect Optimus 7 phone who currently use and we changed it from any other phone.
IMHO I think this is politic of LG and many companies. One phone is with Android other one with WP7. Everybody have a choice. I like Android, I use HTC Desire but bought LG Swift 7 (Optimus 7) to test WP7 and make compare betwen Android and WP7.
LG can assembly the same model of phone to Android and to WP7 but marketing is cruel. More phones will sell with Android neither WP7 (at this moment). And LG will do more phones with AND but there is possible to install WP7.
This is my point of view.
I love my Optimus 7 but it would be great if we had the option to dual boot between WP7 and Android. I wonder when someone finds out how to do it.
Currently there are only 2 phones available that can dual boot different OS's:
1. The Nokia N900 can run Maemo, Android and MeeGo.
2. The HTC HD2 can run WM6.5, Android, WP7 and MeeGo.
The only phone that offers 2 different OS's at the SAME time is the HD2 with WP7 or WP6.5 on Nand and Android on SD as secondary OS.
So if you want such stuff you should go for a HD2.

Why does it have to be either/or? I would like the option to dual boot.
Im always surprised by how much flak this type of question gets on XDA, a forum for hardware hacking and independent software development... Why do i want to flash my phone with android? Because hardware hacking is FUN, and just to say I did it. Not because either android or WP7 is better. If the E900 was an android phone id be interested in flashing it to WP7...
What you fail to grasp is the sheer amount of work required to port Android for a phone that didn't support it in the first place. In the case of WM, it was easy, since XDA members hacked the life out of every one of those phones. There has to be someone willing to spend the time porting Android for this phone. But so far, no one is willing. Of you are up for the challenge, the perhaps you should begin your work, and I am sure once a person begins to show progress, other devs and hackers will follow.
Thanks for being condescending but i fully grasp the amount of work required. Im not asking why its not done, i was simply stating its pretty ridiculous how much people here crap on someone for asking. Do you honestly thing if anyone was actually working on it, this would be the place to show their work? I havent seen a single thread where someone proposed flashing different OS's to a WP7 handset that didnt involve at least one person saying "Dont bother". Its almost like WP7 handsets are sacred here and we shouldnt mess with them too much Strange, considering the idea behind this forum...
It may be due to the fact that for years, people here, and elsewhere, have been spending years customizing their phones OS to make it smoother, faster, more intuitive, and then suddenly, we have this new OS that, despite all its obvious and glaring shortcomings, fullfills that need for "speed", and makes the need for customizations and optimizations less than appealing. ( And iOS doesn't count, that's for a different crowd )

The Problem is not the Hardware (the HD2 uses the same chipset only with lower ram and rom). The problem are the bootloaders. You have to write your own or costumize the original one to allow a 3rd party os. But if somebody know how to extract this files from a lg e900 it would be only a question about some weeks for the first nand android on a lg e900. Because the chipsetdrivers are (theoratically ^^) the same as the HD2 uses.

Better camera, a camera button that does not jolt the camera focus. I'd like to dual boot, cos Android has better third party apps, & more freeware. When I dare upgrade Android, sometimes it puts my phone offline for days, until a solution is found.
I think Android can be ported to Optimus 7 ... there are many Android phones with nearly identical hardware ...
Probably it still needs a minimum effort, so you need to find someone willing to spend his time doing such a thing ...
Btw I think the topic 'how to have windows phone on the possible higher number of devices' is much more interesting than 'how to port Crappoid on our devices'
What I meant to say is : If I was able to, I still would not have spare time for such a 'task'

[Q] Android ROM for LG Quantum?

Hi guys,
I just wonder if an Android ROM for LG Quantum will be available soon? The phone comes with Windows Phone 7 and I just can't live with it.
Thank you.
I have not seen or heard of one. I personally do not think it will happen as the lg quantum is not one of the more popular wp7 models. Also there is the fact that you can pretty much buy a phone with android on it with just about any hardware config already.
Miss the good 'ol WM days....
There having trouble porting it to the iphone 4. I wonder how hard it would be to get it on this hardware.
not sure if anyone's even tried, or if anyone that's capable even has a quantum. I sure am though and would be willing to help!
Edit: Well from what i understand WM won't be running on the quantum as the drivers for the compatible hardware aren't cross compatible between wp7 and wm6.5. however i've heard mention of people attempting to run 6.5 executables and such (un-sandboxed apps), if that's possible maybe we can boot using haret or something similar. then again though they would have to take a special interest in getting android running on the device, and it doesnt seem like many have much interest in it....
first step is someone running unsigned apps on the device using some hack or possibly something enabling it in the mango update
hey guys! hope u'd be doing great
im a new bee over here and was about to post a new thread with same discussion this thread having,so i feel better to post here than to create a new thread.
anyway, i have also purchased LG Quantum (c900B) and i am feeling very very restricted like im bound with it, @
i was wondering windows phones can have andriod installed on devices, and i was looking for andriod ROM for this stupid phone
any help ?
or shud i buy another phone :'( ?
please suggest..
Also waiting for Quantum Android
I am eagerly waiting for the LG quantum android ROM as early as possible.
It's doubtful that android will ever be brought over to the LG quantum. It is a low activity device and so far no one has gotten android on a WP7. By the time they get it all figured out or anyone cares enough, the quantum will be old news.
To make this short. Want android? Buy an android phone because you'll be waiting a long time if not forever.

Well,
hardware is VERY capable of Android (same as a Sony Xperia Mini Pro or so...) but the bootloader will never allow you to run Android.
Would be like use diesel gasoline on a standard car...

Still recommend HD2?

Recently I built a Windows Home Server 2011 box and it allows media streaming with server side transcoding to a Windows Phone 7. I've never used a WP7 device before, but would like to try it out. I've seen info about being able to dual boot an HD2 with Android and WP7. That would be awesome as I am a big Android user right now on my Vibrant. At about $150 on ebay, would anyone recommend the HD2 to test out WP7? For about the same price I can get an HD7, but lose the Android ability. How well do both OS's work on this phone? Thanks
The HD2 is an amazing phone and both OS's work great on it. I would get the HD2 again if I had the spare money but I'm satisfied with my G2x.

HD2 is really the best phone which I have ever used. No one can convience to step over to another phone.
HD2, the ever green smart phone, is still the best. Not only 2 operating system option but also 5 more...and each of them work great impeccable.
But you should have this in mind that this phone is getting old and although we still benefit from the latest updates in android and WP7 but some major things like display quality or perhaps hardware capabilities may tight our developing.
Anyway, If I had any choices undoubtedly I would bought HD2 again and again. How many phones can you name that now can run ICS? None of previous heros except HD2, The LEO.

Yo are so right about the HD2. Now it's the only phone with buttons.
Here's a post I made earlier this year.

Apart from Android emerging from beta to almost there and the want dual core shifting to want quad core, no change.
The HD2 is still doing it, in spades.
It's a classic. When I do eventually upgrade and buy an HTC Humdingerâ„¢ it will have at least 4 cores running at 1 gig with at least 2GB DDR RAM
Until then I'll keep my HD2. Even then, I'll keep my HD2.

Are you referring to Android for this phone?
I'm really leaning towards selling off some of my older electronics to cover the cost for one of these phones. Then I can test out WP7 and whatever other OS I can put on there. I'll still keep my Vibrant, as I know I do still really like Android and having a built for Android device is good to keep around. Based on the comments on this thread, $150 seems worth it.
That being said, does anyone think there will be another phone in the future that is similar to this? Will there ever be another phone that so many OS'es will be developed for? I've never seen this in a phone before and I wonder if it will ever happen again.

Certainly. It's already being built.
One manufacturer will make a well specified device, using the right chips, which all operating systems can talk to,
which a lot of developers will notice, which will be priced right, which will take the market by storm, which will go
EXTRA LARGE on XDA developers and will lead to another HD2 like device only faster. Much MUCH faster
As you point out, the HD2 does pretty much everything, very well, right now and it has done for years.
All that's left is CPU and network speed increases and the ability to switch between operating systems on the fly.
Quad cores, lots of RAM .. any reason why two or three operating systems can't be run simultaneously ?
Wouldn't it be nice to switch between Linux, Android and a Windows 6.5 / 7.0 hybrid like you switch between apps ?
Keep all those familiar legacy apps and selectively take advantage of all the new apps ?
hd2 running many os like Ubuntu, Android, WM6.5, WP7, meego and etc. But my wireless service devider don`t market meego phone and wp7 phone. so I need hd2 to use WP7...
i'm using the HD2 for almost 2 years now and it still works great (Android)!
i also use hd2 whit android and it is great
hd2 is the best whit android
this is the best phone ever, no matter what. though it was built 2 years ago, it is a device with most operating systems ported...my father used it for one and a half year, and i'm using it now....wouldn't change it for nothing...
...and all the roms are free, so you do the math

The next HD2

Hello everyone,
i really like the HD2, because you can flash every actual OS from Android to Ubuntu and Windows.
Does the HD2 have any special feature that it supports so many OS, or is it just that developers focused this device specially.
But now the Hardware of the HD2 is getting old. So will there be a new device which be able to be so flexible like the HD2?
+1 ... im interested too
+1 thanks!
Well,If we look back to the history of HD2 , it was born with winmo 6.5 which soon died out.For such a unique and powerful (expensive too) device to just been thrown to dustbin - it was hard for the users,so a lot of interest on how to make it survive - obviously by porting newer OSs.Once it made so , there was no look back ,even now it is one of the most interesting piece for developers. But will there be another HD2 , I don't think so.With so many smart phones in market - more powerful by day ,we will rather move on ...But HD2 development may last as long as its hardware is compatible enough...

hi!
i had an HD2 before, and i loved it. an i still do.
Most of us old HD2 users have upgraded to Sensation (some also to the Desire HD).
The thing is HD2 doesent have any special feature that makes it able to run different things - just a great community with the passion and drive to make all these different OS work. So what you need is a phone thats "popular", which will creat a great community as well.
Ive got the Sensation, and it got plenty of diffrent roms you can install... right now im on Android 4.0.3 with Sense 3.6 - and it runs AWESOMELY! soon we will port the new sense 4.0 also
i hope that Ubuntu would be ported to )

i think the hardware will be compatible long time. The matter is, that you cant develop a rom which will have dual core, super amoled display, better resolution, nfc, 4g and so on.
Respect for the HD2 that it could mess up so many years with any new smartphone, but i think in future this will be hard.
So, what i am going to say is, that xda, or (nearly) all developers should focus a new phone for porting rom and that stuff.
For example to wait for a new wp apollo phone, which will support multicore and higher resolution.
If it is just the focus of the developers which made the HD2 so popular, it would be great, to name a newer device as "the next HD2"
(sounds like the next uri geller^^)
I'd like to see the first WP7 dual phone become the next HD2. Most of the current WP7 phones are still single core, and while that's might be good for now, I'd rather have a dual core in my next phone, since I'd probably be using it for a good two years or so. A dual core WP7 phone+Android ports+Ubuntu ports = perfect? I think yes.

Well mine does as well, I'm on ICS and underclocked actually, to 768 Mhz and it's smooth. However, I want to be able to play some more intensive games [ like GTAIII] and whatnot without having to used a dumbed down data for it. Also, while it's not that big a deal for me, it would be kinda nice to be able to play back 1080p video. But for now, my HD2 is still awesome; I have a friend with a Droid X 2 and one with a Droid 3, and there's nothing they can do with their 2011 phone I can't do on my 2009 phone!

I'm starting my reading up on the skills needed for Android developing, I really wanna take part in making the 'next HD2' as awesome as the current one!
HTC Edge/Endeavour will surely be the next developers phone, no?
I doubt there will ever be such a phone again. The industry is consolidating around two OSs (Android and iOS). Windows Phone has an outside chance of becoming relevant again next year.
I say keep your HD2 going until the Edge/Endeavor comes along. I've got the new Galaxy Nexus and, I must say, the experience of Ice Cream Sandwich on my HD2 is not much different to the Galaxy Nexus with its dual cores. Wait just a little bit longer.
Dont what ever any of you do sell your HD2's I sold mine about a year ago and have been through copious Windows phones, Android Phones even Iphones...nothing comes close to the diversity of this phone, I miss the ability to switch from Android to WP...
The community and development is second to none.
I currently us a Galaxy s2, OK the development is very good for Android Roms, OK its got an amazing screen and very powerful, but really never feels like I am in control of what it can do, I would love to try the WP7.5 but would hate to be restricted to just one operating system, they are all boring after a while, the HD2 allows you so much more

ive moved to the galaxy note and have kept the hd2 but wouldnt even entertain using it now, unless something happens to the note
main purpose is that it works, unlike on the hd2 where something dont work or are slow to work due to non native driver support, the devs are fantastic in what they have done for the device, but im actually glad im not swapping/updating roms every week
