Eee pad transformer 2 coming soon with video - Eee Pad Transformer General

is include led flash ICS and more

Nice! I wonder if its time to start looking for a buyer for my TF..
I am a bit disappointed that Google didn't bring an ICS tablet beside the new Nexus..

Dangit. My wife just told me I can get the TF2 if I'll sell my TF now, while it's likely to get the best price. Which I could do, but how long could I live without a tablet? A month? Would I survive?
I'm just not sure. Damn you, Asus!

They were only allowed to release the video after Ics was launched by Sammy last night.

we're all on the same boat. a month without the TF is torture but if it's means getting the TF2 (although it's more expensive) next month, i'll do it.

Traitor! get out of here

With my electronic fetish I am thinking but
Really it will have to blow me away in what it does compared to my current transformer and keyboard, and if my unit can be updated to ICS they will have to sell me on some real life advantages not benchmark, mine doesn't lag or anything my battery life is superb.

Ah, so it will be a new device, not just updated hardware. If they fix the speaker and make it lighter and thinner, I am so going to get it.

I can always dump my old transformer on my wife.
Seriously, if we can get an ICS update I would probably stick with my TF1 until the TF2 prices dropped in 6 months to a year. I figured out that if I shoot at 1080p24 on my T2i, my TF1 will play the 1080p video. The only other hardware restriction I had was movies. Dice Player handles those nicely and it's only $5 vs $500.
I don't know about you, but dropping $500 on a tablet every year is a little hard to stomach.

And on your relationship

TBH, if the current TF101 gets an ICS update I will be more than happy. If the apps and some games will run on it, then I'll definitely skip this "update" - I like the metal finishing, but just because of more proccessing power (when not really needed) I won't buy it.

you think the dock keyboard will light up?

Wow good luck with your desition

I'll wait until I would be sure that tf2 can be rooted. And considering the time it takes to get the latest B series rooted, my guess is 6 months to 1 year. Hope I'm wrong.

I like the brushed look on the outside case, very cool though I'm not sure if that's enough for me to ditch my Transformer 1.

Another caveat is the question of whether the Tegra 3 is the best upcoming chipset. Qualcomm and TI are doing some interesting things, and so is the Tegra 3 the one to buy or should one wait for the next gen from the other manufacturers? Who knows, maybe it's the TF3 that will be worth buying, and the TF1 can hold us off in the meantime.
Personally, I'm tempted to sell my TF1 and get a TF2, but my more practical side says to wait until CES to see what other manufacturers announce.

While I really love my Transformer, I couldn't agree more. The one thing that just pisses me off the most about my Transformer is the lack of media that I can actually watch on it. Knowing that the newer OMAP4 and Qualcomm chips are much better, and on top of that they are probably almost as good as the Tegra 3, I really feel it's worthwhile to wait. The only thing I feel the Tegra 3 has going for it is the GPU side of things. Right now, TI seems complacent to always include a simple GPU that is inferior to whatever Apple currently has. Why don't we have a GPU the same as Apple? I don't know, but it's disheartening from the gaming side of things. I want more. The only OMAP4 chip that comes close is the 4460...and that won't be out until next year....

[Q] Buy NOW or Wait for Tegra 3 Transformer?

Now that it's been said that Asus will be coming out with some Tegra 3 tablets this year, should I wait on buying the Transformer and wait for a Tegra 3 Transformer?
With all the problems of the TF101, it sounds more and more like "wait till the end of the year" when the Tegra 3 stuff will be out (and one can actually get a Transformer (Tegra 2) easily...)
if you can wait, then wait. If you must have a tablet now, then get the tf. =)

I couldn't wait so I got the transformer.
To be honest if a tegra 3 transformer comes out this holiday season I will prolly end up picking it up. As long as the rumors of both using the dock are true of course.

If its from ASUS and has Transformer in its product name then its confirmed it will utilize a dock, and its been confirmed from ASUS it will utilize the same docking station as the TF101
But I suspect by that time, they will release a new docking station that is slimmer to match suspected slimmer tegra 3 varient.
To stay on topic, buy now if you can, play with it, see if you really need the cpu/gpu capbilities of the Tegra 3 with the apps you are using (I suspect everything will run perfectly fine on the Tegra 2 with the latest OTA, mine does!), then when the Tegra 3 varient comes out, either give your TF to a friend or family member, or sell it on eBay if you want to upgrade!

Thats exactly what I am thinking about though. If they make it slimmer, or cut down on some bezel how can the same dock be used? Will it come with an adapter you think? Or if they use a new texture on it. I hope your right though.
I had planned to wait, after all I have a laptop and a rooted nook color so I didn't "need" a new tablet. Having taken the plunge though I can tell you that I'm delighted,Transformer works beautifully and has so much community interest that it will just get better!
Also, there's something quite satisfying about getting newly released products instead of having to wait 6 months.
If you're actually going to use a tablet for anything meaningful to you, that is, anything that makes you more productive or enhances your life in any way, then why would you wait? Besides the fact that you'll be waiting forever for the "best" technology product to be released, you'll also spend months NOT doing the things you'd use a tablet for.
And if you can go months without using a tablet for those things, then why buy one in the first place?
I think you should wait for Tegra 5.
This thing is smooth as butter. No need to wait the future is here.
BUY BUY BUY .... SELL SELL SELL!
Thats just my opinion!
This thing is faaaast. The only issues that are present right now are mostly related to Honeycomb. That should be an easy thing to fix
this tablet is barely even launched. i don't think they're going to whip around with another tablet so fast.

Even if --and that is IF-- Tegra 3 is out by the end of this year, manufacturers will still need time to actually make the tablets. (Just like Tegra 2, which was released MUCH earlier than the first mass produced Tegra 2 tablets)
I can tell you right now to just take these ETA's with a grain of salt. They are always at least a month or two behind. (even vaporware sometimes)
Hell, it takes Apple, who has unlimited resources, to make a new version once a year. And they still have shortages...
Remember, you haven't gotten product releases: you are getting product plans. There is a difference between having a product almost done to having one in my mind.
The cheapest thing for Asus to do is to "update" their current line with Tegra 3 so they don't actually have to make a new product. If they're simply "refreshing their line" with Tegra 3, then yes end of year is possible. But, they already bought tons of Tegra 2 chips; I seriously doubt they'd want to peeve their customers by putting in Tegra 3 only a few months after buying a TF. Plus, I still see them trying to get the tablet slimmer and lighter.
I think an end of year date is possible, but I would bet that it takes till at least Feb of 2012 before they come out with a new line of Tegra 3 tablets. (Asus or any other manufacturer)
Get the TF now and see if a tablet is actually useful for you right now. If not, sell it/return it and reevaluate when the T3 tablet is out

[Q] Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 V Tegra 3 Device

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 OR Wait for Tegra Three devices?
I would also allow for you to suggest other devices but please only android and please only 10 inch tablets.
Also the new tegra three devices might not be as thin or good-looking as the samsung which i really care about.
The only reason i like tegra is because of the support it has in the android app developing community so please try to keep the suggestions to tegra devices unless you have a good reason to contradict it.
This is simple for me.
If you can wait, wait.
If not go for it.
I couldn't wait
If you can wait, it means you will NEVER buy a device lol. When Tegra 3 devices come out, Tegra 4 will be announced. I passed on the galaxy tab to wait for a tegra 2 device and now I hear nvidias "Kal-El" quad core. **** it! I'm going for the Gtab!
lol might as well buy the Samsung now and then sell it once the new one you like comes out. But its true, do you really want to keep waiting? Not I, I'm jumping on June 8th.
Personally I would get one now. You can play the waiting game and never get one as there is always a better one around the corner. You can of course wait but I suspect that you won’t see many better or 4 core tablets announced until CES 2012 next year.

No, if you can wait, it means.... you can wait! I don't know about the rest of you, but I've lived my life just fine without a table. It will be a cool toy to have, but I don't NEED one. Tech gadgets are always progressing, but the tablet market is currently moving at a very fast pace. Tegra 3 is supposed to be out later this year, and is supposed to be 5x the performance. That's a much more significant performance/time ratio than other more "mature" tech products. If you can wait, then there's certainly something to be said for jumping on when the curve flattens out a little. What I do will depend a lot on pricing.
i think it's worth waiting... tegra3 pre production chips allready shipped to manyfacturers, mass production starts around august. motorola and probably asus will be releasing products short after ( promising releases before back-to-school time )
this means that you can, in theory, own a quad core beast in within 3 to 4 months months...
and they are realy fast, throw your pc and your mediaplayers out of the window and start using your tablet instead
perhaps you can invest in a program like best buy's buy back program, so when something new comes out, you can trade in your old and get the new for cheap

If you pay attention to the market it doesn't look that way. I personally think we wont see anything better then whats out now until next year. Most of these company's still need to make money off the products that are currently on the market.
Take Samsung for example, think of the time and money that has been spent building and promoting their new tablets around the world. I really don't see them coming out with any new tablets at the end of the year even if they had the new teleology. they first need to make a profit.

Asus, Motorola, and Amazon (and probably others) are all rumored to have Tegra 3 tablets by the end of the year. You can't make much money off of the products you currently have on the market if they are obsoleted by new products your competitors are offering.
I'm going to revise my initial answer.
If you're asking the question "Should I wait?". You should wait.
After the iPad released last year, I started trying to imagine, what exactly I would use a tablet for. Once I was a bit settled on what I wanted to do with it, I started looking for something that would match my needs.
When the 10.1v was announced I realised it was a match and I eagerly went after it.
Maybe you should wait until you are certain that the tablet you are buying is a match for your requirements.

lol!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I run the 10.1v and love it.
Things it is:
-light
-sexy (please no 3.5mm jokes)
-brilliant batery (i charge it each night but it only gets down to 30-50% after full day of use)
-netbook replacment (people will argue this but i haven't found a netbook more fun then this, and you can put debian on it )
-casual gaming (not sure of anything on the market you cannotplay onit except porley designed games that are just tiny boxs)
Things it isn't:
-high def cinema (you can run standard def fine and it looks great but if you are obsesd with 720P wait)
-ipad (yer thats a pritty good reason )
-high end device (tegra 2 is fun and all but nexus s still out performes all tegra 2 devices so if you want the bigest and best wait for qualcomm)
In conclusion if you want a great device that doesn't need to be compared to a PC (which i hate that thats were we uave goten in tablets) then go pick one up, but if your after a device that you want to luanch thermal nucular war with wait for qualcomm.

I'll stop short of making a crack about the shape of said connector
I was really looking forward to GT10.1 but no luck.
It has Tegra 2 inside which is no good for me and has no sd slot which is also no good for me.
I do want a tablet like this but I do have a purpose in getting one - it has to replace my netbook.
Meaning I want to watch 720p mkv without re encoding, netflix, etc...
So far non of the tablets (including iPad2) can do what I want.
If I would be to take one now just to have it Asus Transformer seems like a better choice.
There is an sd slot on it, there is a great dock with batt. for it and looks like it will be/is cheaper.

Transformer 2 to arrive in October according to Forbes

http://blogs.forbes.com/elizabethwoyke/2011/07/29/asus-preparing-second-transformer-tablet/
At first, I was a little mad at this, my Transformer just arrived in the mail today and the first website I went to on my new TF was engadget.com and I saw this headline.
Then, I realized that I probably won't even need a quad core tablet for another couple of years considering that there are only a handful of apps that take advantage of Tegra 2.
Yeah I went into the tablet game knowing full well it would be outdated very quickly. I judged my opinion on my purchase solely based on the streamline performance I saw from the models already available at the time, the xoom, and decided it was going to be enough power for me for a while. But deep down inside it does get to you when you see something newer come out a quarter later!
I also heard today that the price of the Asus Transformer is going to drop on the middle of this month, but they didn't give a price. A reaction to Acer Iconia dropping to $398.
I think that the new screens on the next generation of tablets will be really expensive since they will be 2048x1500 or there abouts.
Don

more silly performances...
There is this assumption that there really isnt any point of quad cores as Apps arent optimised for them yet.
However, honeycomb itself was designed with multicore processors in mind. Single threaded apps can take advantage of multicore processors by running the app on one core, and other OS services on the other cores.
Even the most basic of tasks can benefit like browsing and gaming. The OS itself can benefit from quad core.

They are just playing the same game as Apple, updating their product on a yearly refresh cycle.
I won't be updating from Transformer to Transformer 2. I'm very happy with my purchase, and nothing will change that. A few years down the road I may repurchase.
I only hope that Asus don't withhold Android ICS from Transformer to give the Transformer 2 a market advantage (it already has one in it's hardware spec).

I don't buy this october release date. it makes no sense to put out a new device so early when TF1 sales are rising not falling away. surely asus would want to max out sales of their existing product before launching a successor.

I could easily see them selling both the TF and the TF 2 at the same time, just at a lower pricepoint for the TF and a higher price point for the TF 2. It might be that by the time the TF 2 comes out, component costs will have dropped on the TF and they could price it at, say, $349/$449 retail, and then the TF 2 at $449/$549.
That's just idle speculation, of course, but it makes sense to me, particularly if the specs on the TF 2 are crazy good, which I expect them to be.

Why? Wouldn't you prefer it if your browser typing had less lag, and the app your were running was not effected by other tasks such as feed updates, etc. More cores impacts both the base OS and apps.
Your Android device WILL BE outdated in 3 months, maximum 6 months no matter what you buy.
I am happy as long as I get the Ice Cream Sandwich running smoothly later this year.

This is the same thing ppl said when the tegra2 was announced. The fact is that honeycomb itself is not mature yet.
I agree with the post above saying quad core is useless. It is useless for the time being cause, while the hw techs is advancing at great speed, the software is still lagging behind. why have a quad core when clearly we do not have many tablet applications? i am not talking about the recent api changes in 3.2 so that apps can be stretched... i am talking about special apps made for tablet only. why improve the hw when there is still way to improve in the sw?
browser typing is clearly a bug in the codes. we do not need to get 4 cores to get rid of it. browser typing lag is something we shouldnt be experiencing even in a single core. quad cores coming out in october is quite outrageous especially for us ( living in europe) . i for one, paid approx 450 euros 2 weeks ago for the TF only (without the dock).

Kal-El....No Pototype? Watch! Quad-Core Tablets not coming out this year? Not true!

Ya you're absolutely jumping the gun on this one. That's not only old news but doesn't prove (or even claim) anything we don't already know.
I really don't think we'll see them until 2012. If we do see them earlier, great. I want Tegra 3 AND Android 4.0 though. So unless the late 2011 ones have Ice Cream Sandwich, I'll still hold off. I don't trust any manufacturer enough to let them promise me an ICS upgrade. Maybe Motorola since they're all buddy buddy with Google.

We wont have Android 4.0 for a while. The next version is supposed to be 2.4.

its a real shame that tegra2 is out there now and there really arent so many apps/games for it .. and now they are prepping to get another cpu out ...
it kinda makes fell sorry for buying this tablet.
The same happens with all computer hardware. If you wait until the next great thing to come out, you'll never buy anything.

I'll probably be selling the A500's in Mexico once the Kal-El models come out. I'll be able to sell it for about what they sell for now in the US. I'll make money and it'll be cheaper than if they bought them new here. Win-Win.
I'll have a "Looking To Buy" post in the general discussion, just keep an eye open for it around the turn of the year or when Tegra 3 tabs are available(in stores, not vaporware)
im waiting for Samsung to release a tegra 3 myself. Their tablets are expensive, but they actually support their hardware *demonic glance in Acers direction* and it actually works *laughs at motorolas non functioning micro SD port* and doesn't have so many hardware issues (read: transformer light bleed issues and failing docks)
ohhh my
I just want a new pair of heels. And matching skirt.
OK for real i do not think Acer will support this tab past honeycomb. The same goes for other oems as well.but only time will tell the truth.

Heels... pfft. They're way too girly for me. I use New Rock platformers myself.

I may go that route myself, Samsung generally makes good products. Quality near Sony's without the megalomaniacal "make our own standards" in every package. It really sucks the patent crap between Apple and these devices. I'm really hoping that existing patent laws get annihilated soon, but considering politicians are all on the dole I don't see it happening.

Ibwouldnt worry too much about patents, no one ever goes anywhere with them. As soon as one company thinks they have the other pinned, something new comes up.

Transformer Prime

Hey guys, the Prime specs have just been released, is anyone contemplating getting the Prime? Asus has so far has a good track record with updates and also the Prime is going to be getting ICS. Will you be keeping your Xoom? Or will you be trading it in for the new quad-core tablet? I love my Xoom and it will only get better with the ICS update and the source released so the devs will truly be able to do their magic but, the Prime looks pretty good and its tempting seeing as it lines up with Christmas.
Link for the specs.
I personally will be holding onto the Xoom until further notice. The Prime is only the first of many quad core tablets lined up for release, like how the Xoom was for Honeycomb. I am a hardcore Droid fan since the launch of the OG Droid, thus I will get a quad core tablet when Motorola launches theirs. I have been waiting very patiently for a quad core tablet since late last year, and I can hold out awhile longer knowing the great ones are on their way.
As tempting as the Prime is, I can control the urge to buy. The Xoom can be overclocked quite high without terrible loss in battery life, and it zips along with great speed. No worries for me!
I need Verizon LTE so no upgrade for me until a quad core LTE table launches.
Holding out for something better. I want to see more ram in the two to four GB range and a higher definition screen .
these arguments are exactly what is kind of preventing me from getting a prime. Also the fact that development will be slow and that the full potential of the prime may not be unlocked until other tabs pop up later... Also in the games arena, tegra3 dedicated games may not come out for a while if at all? so just cuz you have a quad core, you may still only get the same user defined power as our xoom (not sure on that this is my own assumption at present)
Well it looks like my xoom is going to be like my alienware m9700. Old as dust and still kicking butt! I just don't see enough of a performance jump in the tegra 3. Shadowgun plays just as smooth on the xoom, so do videos. I want to see a tablet that supports USB burners, hdd, printers, and everything else my laptop does. Without a damn keyboard!!! I can do everything with my xoom except burn dvd's.

i'll use my Xoom until it can't perform as good as I need it too..
I am not doing anything massive with my Xoom so I imagine it will be kicking along until Android x.x won't install on it anymore.
I'm finding it hard to resist the Prime tbh. I'm a bit of a gadget freak and I really like the look of the Prime. That said, I'm sure my Mrs would go ballistic if I bought another tablet before I'd had the Xoom even a year...!

I'd go ballistic, if I had to justify what I spend my money on
BTT:
Well, I never liked Asus-products' look and feel (lol @ the transformer) and I can't think of a real benefit right NOW. So I'll wait for something "better" ...
NO LTE, no Tablet for me
I love the specs on the Prime. It's like a Xoom only better in just about every way (not to say that I don't already love my Xoom) but until they make a LTE version I won't be buying. I am not going to hassle with Tethering or have to wait until I have Wi-Fi. When I really use my tablet is when I am not at home or not at work and often traveling.
I would love the faster Browsing speed though, Quad Core with LTE = kick butt browsing.
Dan
The Asus Prime is very competitively priced. It's actually the same price as the first TF 32GB when it was announced, and it'll probably be lower than the Xoom2 10" at 32GB. A little surprising for Asus, who were positioning themselves as a premium brand. Then again, it's hard to buck the $500 ceiling set by the iPad.
Nice to see the price competition. Although personally I'm not a fan of the hybrid package, and the Prime's ergonomics is wanting. But it looks great, which is what matters.
I'd like to see performance benchmarks vs OMAP4, and also the rooting issue. Some of the Asus TF B70 stepping models (going back since August) still haven't been rooted.
>I would love the faster Browsing speed though, Quad Core with LTE = kick butt browsing.
If you need a quad to web browse, then the problem is the OS & software, which for Android at the moment is still kind of true.

This is so true, a single core @ 1ghz should be more than enough for basic trivial tasks.

I'm thinking about giving the Xoom to my daughter or wife and getting the Prime.
The Xoom 2 looks a little uninteresting ....
(it's not about the quad-core, I rarely need duo-core)

Hey, that's a good idea. The Mrs might not be so angry if I give her the Xoom. Although... just thinking here... she'll probably make the argument that she should have the lighter of the two. Hmm. This will require some thought.

Lol think again...wives are pissed when they get the hand me down and you get the hot new ****! She will want to know why she doesn't get the new tablet since you already have the Xoom!

Simple answer though... because I'm paying for it.
Now... whether that would work...?
I about to sell my xoom, and waiting for Prime. But then, i -rethinking that i bought my xoom for $530.If i want sell it now, i would lose around $200. It's not worth. So i guess i keep my xoom, waiting for ICS. And i'll buy a new Window 8 tablet.
I hope Tegra 3 can play any video you throw at it without the need to convert. It may be worth to upgrade to one if I have the money to do so.

My wife is always quite happy to get my tech hand me downs. Especially since they're usually about 6 months old and like new.

That's one of the reasons I'm considering the Prime.
I assume you're talking about hi-res and not just file format? MX Player Pro's codec package will play about any file format on my Xoom without the need to convert.
But the Xoom doesn't have enough power to play hi-res MOV's. Maybe the Tegra 3 will .... we'll see.

Have you tried Dice Player? I just watched Rise of the Planet of the Apes in high Res 720p without any problems.
