Alright so I had my phone rooted and S-OFF and everything, but I just noticed when I went into my bootloader it says I'm back to S-ON and and I can't update any PD15IMG. Superuser is working fine, but how I can get back to S-OFF?
EDIT: I got my problem resolved. If anyone has the same problem and wants an explanation feel free to PM and I'll help out.
Are you on stock? Which android version?

Hey there, I just noticed that I'm having the same issue. My evo says it's "s on". When I tried going through Revolutionary again to make it "s off", it says what do i think I'm doing, I'm already "s off". And I am still rooted. I just changed my firmware to 2.3.5 team-nocturnals rom. Please advise. Thanks.

I'm running Virtuous 1.1.8 ROM with latest radio (stickied-thread that shows May 11th date).
The first I did (accidentily) was make S=on. Now, whenever I try to go to bootloader to load PD15IMG.zip, it says "Main version is older. Update fail".
I believe I need to get back to S=off and first put stock recovery on before doing the pd15img.zip... Is that right? I have tried to get back to s=off without any luck.
I would appreciate ANY help. Thank you.
Should have posted this in question section instead.

Oh- I thought the QA was for non-development questions (non-root related)...

Sent from my demonSPEED Glacier using XDA Premium App
I was following one of the guides. I have looked at so many I don't remmber which one.
might wanna check with a dev on this but i believe u can just use visionary to regain perm root. Not sure of ur exact scenario but i had something similar happen to me.

havent you already started another thread just like this one???
*edit*I just read the other thread, happy to hear that you fixed your phone
Hello everyone,
Any help you guys can give will be much appreciated.
I have a MyTouch 4G previously running Froyo, rooted and S=Off. Against better judgment, I decided to put this release of Gingerbread 2.3.4 on it:
PD15IMG_Glacier_Gingerbread_S_TMOUS_2.19.531.1_Radio_12.58.60.25_26.11.04.03_M_release_200756_signed.zip
Though everything seems to work fine, I lost root. Contrary to most other accounts from other people who flashed the same file, S=Off remained on my phone.
I would really like to get root back so I can use some of my apps again.
Visionary stops at a black screen.
Gingerbreak runs forever with no success.
What other means can I use to get root back or am I SOL for now until someone figures out how to root 2.3.4 on the MT4G?
Thanks again.
N
From what I could find in the forums, you are kinda stuck till someone comes up with another exploit in order to gain root and s-off
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA Premium App
I am stuck in the same situation, except that I updated first to the official gingerbread rom for mytouch 4g and then tried to root my phone, i.e. the phone was not rooted at all.
I'm quite confident an exploit will be (re)written - just a matter of time. It's just that I couldn't use some of my paid apps.

You can go back to 2.2.1 from 2.3.4
I had the same issue then i found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178912 follow the G2 method, when you get to the part where you put this in # /data/local/tmp/misc_version -s 1.19.531.1 make sure you put the version you want like 1.17.531.2 not 1.19.531.1 worked for me just did it about 1/2hr ago
If you still have S-off, why not just wipe and flash another ROM?

I tried flashing a similar 2.3.4 release that is rooted. Renamed it to PD15IMG.zip and tried applying it - At "parsing", it stops and just goes back to the HBOOT menu.

You are mixing up roms and official update zips. You can't just flash a rom thorough hboot. That's not how it works.

lOOK AT WOLF26915's post use the G2 instructions to temp root using the fre3vo exploit in adb then change your version number to 1.17.531.2, then your bootloader will allow you to use the 2.2.1 PD15IMG update to get back to stock and root.

This is the problem with n00bs. You wanna jump head first into something you have absolutely no understanding of then beg for help over and over in here when you finally brick your phone.
Stupid. You FAIL!
So sick of new users of Android trying to jump before looking. You're the same kind of people who would jump off a cliff before checking to see how deep the water is. Then want help after you break your neck.

That was 20 years ago. And yet, even then, when I wanted to know something; I searched and searched and searched, and searched again. Then I read and read and re-read over and over and over again. And after all that if I still didn't know then I would ask. But I would also ask in a proficient manner.
Too many young kids jumping in on the Android bandwagon and wanting to root and flash Rom's right out of the box without learning first.
I stand by my first statement.
If you had Radio S-OFF, you should be able to flash an unsigned PD15IMG.zip even though you lost root.

Interesting. msm_rotator is I believe the exploit used in Fre3vo.
I wonder if this would work to downgrade the HTC Panache from Mobilicity to an MT4G ROM?
I also downgraded back to 2.2.1 then updated to the rooted 2.3.4 and it works
I'm trying to unroot my phone so I can send it back in for a replacement but whenever I try to flash the PD15IMG in the bootloader it says the "Main version is older" and the update fails. I used the PD15IMG from the unlockr, but I guess I guess I need an updated one? Anyone know how I can fix this?
EDIT:
I ended up figuring everything out. Here's the thread I made that explains everything.

Tmobile doesnt look to see If your phone is rooted or Not. There only interested in the physical aspect of the device.

you should have reverted back to the stock radio before flashing the stock PD15IMG...you could try flashing the newest updated RUU and then downgrade back to 2.2

I ran into the same problem as youre having when I tried to revert back to stock. flashed the stock PD15IMG in hboot, but was on an updated radio. you still have root access even tho it says s=on, but you can ONLY use the rom you were currently using when trying to go back to stock. (ex- if you were on Virtuous Unity v2.39 then you could only flash and use that rom) theres a thread that goes more into detail, heres the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1092170 make sure you read the entire thread carefully
from what I understand, youll have to flash an updated RUU to fix the issue

Thanks for the link man, I should've searched before I posted. I read through the whole thing, and I'm still not sure what to do.. just a thought, but would this basically be like trying to root from the official 2.3.4 OTA?
And if there's an RUU for the GB OTA would that work in HBOOT, since it has the updated radio?
same thing happened to me, i have a glacier. (mytouch 4g) would appreciate any help. I was actually trying to restore to stock, unroot, and now i am s-on rooted

When will the mytouch 4g 2.3.4 be rooted?! I read on October 1 that it'll be rooted "in the coming weeks"...its nearly November. Anyone have any updates at all? Or will 2.3.4 never be rooted? Thank you for all of your help!

it'll be rooted when you downgrade to 2.2.1 :X
j/k or whenever, dunno how much progress/work people have been making on developing it
downgrade
I have tried that available link to downgrade but all in vain. i successfully got temp root but not able to perem root. so when i put downgraded stock rom, recieving message newer version is there and visionary is not helpful in my case.
Any idea how to do that .
The only reason i want to root is my camera . i dont know what happened to it. but whenever i try to use my camera it ended up in blank screen.
I am not good in that but thinking to change the rom maybe it resolve my problem
Any help / guidance thanks in advance.

What do you mean newer version? Are you following the downgrade guide that requires adb to push, execute some files, and flash all by adb. When you downgrade, you don't simply flash the pd15img.zip you should follow the guide.

Look in my signature, see a link to Wiki. Open it, go to section "Root", subsection "Gingerbread 2.3.4". There will be a guide which needs to be executed IN FULL.
Try and read this with caution NOT ME OR THE PERSON WHO MADE THIS IS REPONSIBLE... it has a one click downgrade and a one click root.. after all that is down, there's a root version of gingerbread available... one step at a time...

I'm trying to update my ROM before I run the HTC unlocking steps on the bootloader section. For the MyTouch 4G, it says I need to do it and my carrier is listed in the list (DAVE CA). It starts fine and then pops up with error 131 CID Error. The phone is stock and I haven't done anything to it yet.
Current version 2.09.1800.1
To: 2.32.531.1
Anyone know what is causing this CID error and how I can fix it?
Thx.

STOP!
Don't use HTC Dev. Are you on Froyo? If so, go to the development section of this forum and use the gfree thread (ultimate s-off) stickied there.
Everyone who goes through the htc-dev process comes back in here regretting it and goes ahead and roots the XDA way. Save yourself the trouble.
I assume you want to root your phone. Look up the "Mobilicity/Videotron Panache" thread.
If you don't want extra pain - don't use HTCDev unlock.

Panache. DAVE CA/Mobilicity version running stock Gingerbread. Was hoping that I wouldn't have to downgrade OSes but I guess I'll have to do that.
Thanks all.
You can avoid downgrading, but I strongly suggest you go that way instead of HTCDev-unlocking. It'll take very few ROM changes to get really annoyed by flashing boot.img manually.
Got it done following the dev guide.
