Google voice because? - Epic 4G General

I understand some ppl use it for voicemail only but how many others use it because sprints service is garbage where your at? Ex being that i miss 3-4 calls n bout 5-7 txt a day jus using sprint service...how do i know this? Google voice tracks calls and texts even when the phone is off (not saying my phone is off tho). Ill get notifications in gv n never get a missed call or txt thru native apps. This is very disappointing on sprints part...

yeah i use it because i get missed calls/texts sometimes. but the google voice app is problematic that it likes to freeze/doesn't send my text/ update my gv inbox.
overall, i'm happy though, and i can respond to text messages from my laptop now

I started using it when my texts would take about an hour to come in. That was on my palm centro. The web interface is best thing in the world.
google.com/voice/m

It doesnt freeze for me but i quit using the app to text i jus use to to notify me of anything incoming. Kid, i feel u. it really sux once u turn gv off n miss a bunch ppl needing to contact

I use it for 2 reasons. First, so I can text over wifi. Second, so I can get my voicemail transcribed. Even with bad transcription, I can usually get the main points.

How do you quit txt if you fully went over to GV?

I use gv so I can text at work (via wifi) and when I'm not at work, I go back to using handcent.. just leave gv sending texts to my phone.. may not be optimum, but can't stand some of the quirks of the gv app...

I leave gv open to receive messages(get notifacation in gv app n turn off notify in native and go sms apps to prevent triple notifies) but i use go sms to send texts out unless i get a text fail because service drops. Then i open gv to text thru 3gdata or wifi. I do this because I get texts that i dont get thru my native text service or go sms apps but can still reveive them in gv even when not on wifi because google intercepts it. Get missed call messages also even tho my phone doesnt ring.

I have been using Google Voice since you had to get a invite to use it. I originally got it for my Archos 5, as it doesn't have a data plan from a carrier. I find it nice that when I got my Optimus s, and Epic, all of my messages were there. No having to copy messages over or anything like that. I didn't have to change my number between phones either, which is always a hassle. I love this app, and have for a longggg time.

Ever since I decided to try gv, it asks me to press "1" to accept calls when I answer them. Even tried uninstalling it, and it still does it. How can I stop it from doing that? Even still get transcribed vm in messaging too. Annoying...
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App

it's easiest to change those settings by logging into the GV site, and changing your settings. If you've enabled the carrier integration, you'll have to call Sprint to get them to remove it.

Text message after getting voicemail

Ok so I'm on bonsai 1.1.3 with the new cwm and emotionless beast theme. This just started a couple days ago. When I get a new voicemail I then all of a sudden get a new text message. The text message is from 9016 and it says android ###-###-#### (the phone number that sent me the voicemail) has sent you a sprint voice message. Call 408-970-0000. Mmsn,106bee099,9fc6,v69bdosvezi//cm. This is just one example of one I got. Like I said it just started a couple days ago. Anyone ever had this and know what it is? It's really annoying when this happens. Thanks for your help!
Do you have the no bubble messaging app? Or the stock messaging app?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I have this too after I replaced the bubble MMS app with the white one with square pictures on the left (similar to a facebook chat looking thing). Looks like the evo sms app from what i've seen.
Is that whats causing it? All I did was push the Mms.apk from viperrom to bonsai 1.13
all you have to do is blacklist the number the text message comes from. Not sure if the stock app will do it, but handcent will.
I never changed my SMS or anything. I just updated the bonsai rom. As soon as I get my voicemail notification I get those new text messages.
This is happening to me as well.
this is going to be funny...
but can someone attach the MMS.apk that is causing..i kinda actually want this to happen after i get a voicemail..
thanks

I just have my VM setup to forward to my Google Voice number. That way I never get VM in my Sprint inbox - no fuss with visual VM either. You can use either the Google Voice app or have Google Voice send you a text.
Anybody know why its happening. Is it something in the bonsai rom cause.i havent messed with my sms and voicemail?
Sent from my Evo killer!
that is the visual voicemail to text thing it happens on all phones with vvm to text, call tech support tell them to block the number from texting and problem solved, i have to do this a few times a day d]since i do their tech support lol
Its from the messaging app with the rom. Its using the no bubble mod with the 5mb mod. I figured out that was causing it and just found a stock messaging.apk in the theme forums. Once you switch it out, call your self a couple times and you will notice the text after voicemail goes away.

I'm not positive, but I think if you are getting VM notification texts saying "call 408-970-0000(or any number)to listen to your VM messages, its because your voice mail isn't provisioned properly. The network doesn't realize your phone has visual voice mail, so its sending you a text to let you know to call to hear them. This happened to me a few times on my HTC hero when flashing cyanogen mod, and also a few times on my epic when i had a bad flash, or i had a poor signal on my first boot.
You should be receiving a message with a sort of code in it, something like {android}/noreply/notificationon(i don't remember the exact syntacs or message, but it will look something like that) it was caused by your MMS.apk.
When i had the provisioning issue, this is what i did to resolve it:
1. Dialed *38(resets VM to carrier in case it as setup to go to google voice, or other third party VM).
2. Open the VVM app
3. Hit menu
4. press Compose
5. in the "to" field put "[email protected]"
6. press record
7. as soon as the "send" button ungrays and ill allow you to, press it.
If this doesn't work you can try making a nandroid backup and odining to a stock rom, then re-rooting and restoring your nandroid.
Best of luck

I have this same issue, but when I blacklist it with Handcent, it still gives me a notification that I have an unread text message even though it doesn't show up on my conversation list...Looks like I might just have to go back to stock and re-root unfortunately...
PS - Also tried the above and haven't seen any changes, still get the stupid 9016 text that I have an unread voicemail...
Well I did the email to activate and got a txt back. Still get the 9016...odd didn't happed on qr 2.67 but mold mms is 1.73 theme did....

I'm pretty sure this is google voicemail interfering with your regular voice mail. You need to go into gvoice and deactivate the number from going to google, and it will stop.
I'm using viper rom and get the same text message so it is not rom specific. I have tried the messaging.apk change and still get the messages. Does not appear anything is working so far to stop the texts

Just go into the Google Voice settings and then sync and notifications. There you can disable the notifications.
do i uncheck "inbox notifications"? i already had "text messages" unchecked.
Wondering the same thing. I don 't have anything checked and everything is still routing to my GV inbox. Aggravating.
Go to www.google.com/voice

Find your Sprint phone in the list of phones and click Edit
Toggle the check box for "Receive text messages on this phone."

I had this problem yesterday.
First, go into the Google Voice app on your phone and turn off all notifications.
Then, goto voice.google.com and change the setting Matt2053 is talking about.

[Q] kindle Fire Messaging options

Hey guys. thanks for having so much available info on damn near everything. I have been looking but still have not found what im looking for, so i have made a new thread. First off i have the moto triumph cm7.08 rooted. Next the kindle fire rooted(stock os). I was trying to find a way i could send txts from my kindle when its wireless tethered to my moto using the hot spot built in to the cm7. i used to have an app that let me tethered my old Samsung to a computer and i was able to send and receive the messages right from my puter. Any help or guidance will be appreciated. thanks in advance.
google voice works great
Yeah, Google Voice is what I use.
thanks to the both of you I got it working on my phone and the voice calling aspect is odd i have to press 1 to accept any call now coming in which is a bit annoying, i looked in settings and did see anything to stop that but i was on mass public transport so it did not have 100% of my attention. anyways thanks again.
Ok I think I go it working.... nope any input would be awesome.
Voice is fine if you already use it, but for those of us that don't it would require giving out a new number to everyone you know. Unless I missed something, that isn't very feasible for all of us.
I would think some kind of remote control or text forwarding app would be better... I would like to send and receive txt from my cell number on my kindle, and I think that's what the op was wanting as well

I use this https://market.android.com/details?id=com.koushikdutta.desktopsms&hl=en for texting
I just reviewed that app and that looks like its for desk tops or laptops. Im trying to keep my phone in my pocket and test from my kindle fire which is connected through the internet on my phone hotspot or barnacle both work on my phone (cm7 tinkerguys beta.08)
Simple for me is using yahoo! Messenger. I already have an account, and can txt to any number I choose, not just those on my list. It goes to the recipient as my yahoo screen name and when they reply to the txt, I get it in my messenger on my kindle. Great free, no tethering required option. But I still have to be connected to wifi, so maybe not the option you're looking for.

But again I doubt this is transparent, in other words the people you send texts to don't see it as your cellphone that is sending the text, this would confuse some people... looking for transparency here

1+ to TextPlus. Its worth trying out and it works on adroid and ios. They give your own number and I beleive unlimited txting. The calls you need to pay for though.
I got the Wifi + 3G and I can text to other phone numbers.
I use Textab on my DX and 10.1. Works pretty well, but after awhile my DX really starts to lag while using the Textab app.
Need to finish setting up my google voice.
If you use Exchange, you can also SMS via the e-mail client. Also, if you're with AT&T they have a unified messaging app in the Market that allows you to send and receive texts on your tablet over Wi-Fi.

you can also use whatsapp
Tablet Talk is pretty cool for using your phone over wifi/bluetooth also.
If you have an android phone you could use desksms. It's made by Clockworkmod. You set it up on the phone and with a yearly charge it lets you text, from your number, using gtalk or gmail on tablet or in browser. Been using it since it was released. It's great.

This shouldn't be necessary. I always listen to pocket casts over bluetooth media when in my truck. Assist pauses the playback when a text comes in to ask me if I want to hear it and then reply. When finished, playback resumes.
What if your listening to the radio? Like I do. Then it is necessary

I wondered about this also. Scenario:
The phone is in my cupholder while driving. I rec'v an incoming text. Google asks if I want the text to be read. I say listen. The text is read back to me.
How can I reply to that text that was just sent? Do I have to go through the entire process again? Say OK Google Now, say send text to that person. Say the text I want. Also how can I get the text that I just wanted to send read back to me? It says here is your text do you want to send it? Well if you have to look at your phone to verify if the txt is correct, what's the point?

After reading the incoming text, it asks you if you want to reply using the set canned response.
Oh okay, so it won't let you reply with using the voice to text commands? It only let's you reply with the 1 auto response like I'm driving I'll text you later or what ever you decide? That's too bad. It would be nice to have a text conversation back and forth only using the voice controls.

Same problem for me. I'm in a VW Golf with the standard factory radio. If the phone is connected and offers "media" audio then I don't hear anything unless I switch to the bluetooth input. Phone calls work because it switches to phone mode, but navigation, this reading stuff and others don't.
