A501 Lightspeed ROM patch feedback - Acer Iconia A500

1) Your forum rules, namely the 10 posts rule for development forums, are stupid! you could restrict creating new threads there, but restricting even new posts in the existing threads is simply idiocy!
2) this feedback is for the author of Lightspeed ROM:
the A501 patch doesn't work.
with or without SIM card inserted, after the OS is booted it blanks the screen with the boot animation for several seconds, then briefly shows the screen (you can even interact with it if you are quick), then blanks it again with the boot animation and this goes on in a loop.

[Q] How to change the Boot Splash?

I am currently running the CM7 nightlies off the eMMC on my Nook Color.
When the device is powered on or rebooted, when loading from the eMMC it displays three things before getting to the boot animation:
1) "Touch the Future of Reading" in portrait.
2) A quick, corrupted-looking "Loading" in portrait.
3) The word "ANDROID" with a blinking cursor behind it in landscape.
After those three items display, then it shows the boot animation (in portrait).
If I boot from SD card, none of those three boot splashes show. So I'm guessing the three boot splashes are stored internally. Maybe even in the magic /boot partition we aren't supposed to touch.
Can we change the boot splashes? If anything, I'd rather have a blank/black screen displayed instead of the three ugly splashes there are now.
Having one screen would be nice also. Something maybe that just has an Android log in portrait before the CyanogenMod animation starts.
I'm booting CM7 off uSD and I'm seeing those 3 screens. I installed multiboot so now I don't see "the future....." but a boot menu, but I still see the other two.
So, at least from reading about the Gtab, I assume NC has a somewhat similar way of doing things...
The first screen is its own partition, so you would need to figure out where that is, find the image on it, then replace it.
The second is (I think?) the command to load either recovery or boot to the rom.
The third is the kernel starting up (again, I think?). Dal probably put that there so people know what is going on, but I bet it could be removed and replaced by nothing pretty easy.
It looks like with CyanogenMod 7.1, it goes from the "Touch the Future of Reading" screen straight to the boot animation.
I tested a 4/30 build of 7.1.0 and it just flashed the screen instead of showing the "Loading" and "ANDROID." text.
So, we're almost there.
Where's 7.1?

From the thread "[DEV] CM7 Developers Thread **Very early 2.6.32 build** [4/30/11]":

I'm not interested in changing the boot animation. I want to change the static boot splash on power on.
It use to say "Touch the Future of Reading", and with the Nook 1.2 software, it says "Read Forever" or something.
The static splash may be in /boot
I'd love to get rid of those three as well...
On a sidenote, does anyone else have a REALLY long delay on the "Touch the future" screen whenever they boot up the first time after charging? Mine sits there for at least 2-3 minutes before moving on to the Loading and Android_ screens.

Android boot loop...and can't revert!

...my effort to install Android on my new NOOK Color went smoothly until it started to boot and the boot screen just keeps spinning.
Read many posts appearing to address this issue but reverting to a stock reader seems to require various apps only for a PC. Being a Mac weenie this leaves me out in the cold.
...is there a Mac-centric reader here who can help me return my NOOK into the reader it originally was?
I'm a bit gun shy now of making the device both an Android tablet and a reader! Thanks much in advance.
...addendum!
...playing around with the NOOK I was able to raise a reboot option which, to my surprise, cured whatever fault was behind the boot loop. A couple of spins and CM7 in all its glory appeared.
...but now I can only reboot into CM7...seems to be no option to boot into the original B&N book/magazine reader.
What am I missing? What's the "open sesame" to choose the reader? Tnx again.

One thing your missing is giving us information regarding your setup and what you want and/or are expecting.
Is this a SD install of CM7? If so... when you power it up... press and hold "n" button to get the boot menu... selecting eMMC / Normal boot will boot into stock.

...thanks much for the quick response.
...yes, I did an SD install of CM7 with all the Google apps, etc.
My objective is to be able to toggle back and forth between the B&N reader and the Android tablet. If this isn't possible I'd like to go back to the reader.
Unfortunately I can't get the boot menu with the "n" button when I power up. Andoid mounts and a white screen offers only "power off" or "re-boot"...no other options.
...following the instructions I used from the web for installing CM7 I removed the SD card before I formatted, etc. Is this an issue?
Looping Problem
Okay so I think I may have the same problem hopefully someone can help. So first I install CM7 and then it gave me when I tried opening the market so I was like okay... so then I downloaded and install manuelnooker and now im boot looping .. So I insert the SD and turn it on but it doesnt boot up to recovery. I only see CM7 and then it boot loops into Nook Color With the big N on top and the small android bottom right corner. Can anyone help me out on what is the best way to get back into recovery. I know if I turn it on while holding the N its says CM7 and in the bottom it shows recovery but never goes to it. Much help please..
Okay so I finally got into CWR but now it gives me an error formatting data when I select mounts and storage and select format data? Im trying to revert back the nook color using nook complete restore 1.0.1. and I try doing it format data in the opening screen but I flash the zip and boot loops. any help is much appreciated.. Thanks
...some progress!
...less sleep but some progress.
...after several unsuccessful attempts I finally got the NOOK to restore to factory specs with the "8 interrupted boot" sequence [can't post the URL because I don't have eight posts yet :-( ].
Wasn't necessary to do the second step described in the post...NOOK automatically did the restore after zeroing the data and my B&N account can be accessed without more.
...but now I no longer have Android capability. Is there any way to install a simple toggle mechanism for both on the same tablet?

You never fully described what you did to begin with. Did you follow specific steps on a site? If so, let's have the URL.....

URL for CM7 install shown in msg title...server wouldn't let me enter it in msg body!

A500 bricked - head spinning from reading all the "bricked" threads - need guidance!

A500 bricked - head spinning from reading all the "bricked" threads - need guidance!
Hi I've got a bricked A500. I have the CPUID and SBK.
I've read so many posts and threads about unbricking with so many variations on how to do it that my head is spinning. So I'm looking for a bit of guidance as to where to turn. So, yes, I did do a search on this forum and others. There's so much similar but different information out there and few seem to actually take you through the entire process beginning to end with no gaps or assumptions. I've tried several and Blackthunder's tools seems to get me the closest.
Symptoms:
Black screen. Power light will light.
Whether I reset, or hold the Vol and Pwr buttons down or not, the screen remains black and no vibration. Did this repeatedly - no difference. The device does show up as A500 on my PC (after loading USB drivers). But if I open it, all I see are two "video" folders and one "audio" folder. So the PC can see something on the tab but not much is there.
I downloaded Blackthund3r's APX flash utility and his A500 manager. I cannot get any of the bundle downloads to work from his flash utility. I just get msgs about there being problems with the links. Many of the links on this forum didn't work so I found some via Google search. So I downloaded a few of the more promising looking .a500apx files, as well as some bootloaders only.
As per one of the threads, I also ran DotNetDetector and loaded the USB drivers.
With both Blackthund3r tools, I do get the msg "A500 Detected in APX Mode" although the tab screen remains blank. When I start up the flash utility the tab vibrates, I now see the Acer logo, and "Entering Acer Download mode" at the top left.
I tried doing the full flash, as well as doing the specific file selection and only selecting the bootloader. In either case, the tab screen does not change (Acer Logo, etc). It gets through Stage 1 of flashing bootloader and goes to Stage 2. The flash tool remains at "Flashing" with the green bar partway across. Then it just sits there. The Command prompt window just keeps refreshing with "NWFlash started [resume mode]. I let it sit all night and nothing else happened. The DOS window just keeps refreshing with the same message. No errors, no completion.
One difference if I do the full flash. It gets stuck with the bar about 25% green. If I do the bootloader only, the bar is only about 75% green.
What am I missing?
Thanks!

[Q] Flashed Radio and Stuck at Black and White Google Splash Page

Background:
Device: Tilapia
Came from 4.18 / 1205 and a 4.2 ROM (PA)
Flashed PA (latest)
--- No problems at this point ---
Flashed the files found at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2175086
Everything went fine until step 16. I was not able to reboot to recovery. What I had instead was this black and white Google splash page.
I did the usual button combinations, was able to get in and out of APX but I am always stopped at the splash page. The device boots but up until the Google splash page only. I need to get to recovery. How do I break from this loop? Thanks in advance.
Looking for solutions I've discovered that the instructions found at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2175086 killed a handful of devices following the same procedure.
On the one hand, it's my fault that I did not read through http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2175086 to see that there was a very big risk of hardbricking your device but on the other hand, there should have been a warning on the first post saying that there have been numerous users who got their devices hardbricked as can be found in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2175086 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2385695
Bumping.
Again:
Just APX
Boots up to Google b/w image only.

First boot sequence changed to chinese

Maybe a silly question but I want to understand ans solve if possible:
After testing some Lineage-roms and also flashing back to stock and again to lineage, my first boot animation (before seeing the lineage boot animation) is now in chinese. I remember it was in english before ( "Share the ECO World... I'm not a phone but...") but for some reason it is now completely in chinese.
There is no problem with this for using my phone as this sequence is only a few seconds after a reboot, but I want to know which part of my TWRP backup is responsible for this and how to change back to english?
Its just you boot animation. Search the Leeco pro 3 forums for Boot animations, you can make it anything you want. There are also utilities available that help you create your own splash screen and boot animations, you can also give TWRP a theme if wanted. You can also manually add, the splash screens and boot animations.
To go on, plenty of pre-existing zip files exist to make it say Google or Leeco but in English. In fact, I just remembered that I posted one of these here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=75021582
At the bottom where it says just for fun.
Thank you tsongming for your help. Now I now that the start-up screen is called splash screen/boot. I searched for this and found the answer
For some reason I don't get notification anymore, so I missed your answer.
