Just curious - anybody out there also have a cell phone addiction? LOL People think I'm nuts to have both a T-Mobile account (love the ability of unlocked phones, sim swapping, etc..) as well as a Sprint account (love the coverage). Anybody else out there double dipping?
I try to save the most amount of money possible (even considered at one point switching to Virgin Mobile for their $25 per month plan on the intercept) so theres no way in hell I'd have two different cell phones.
I can give you a list of rehab clinics in your area though if you'd like
Im not on 2 carriers but this cell phone **** is getting out of hand with me I got the nexus S yesterday im done with obsessing over this.
People are starting to think I do for buying this phone without a plan.
...Honestly, I told myself I'd use this Wifi-only. But it's just such a waste, I need to start looking at cheap data plan options... Maybe T-Zones?
Okay, I have a problem.

Having 2 phones or 2 services for that matter isnt a problem if you are using them. I know a lot of people who have work phones and personal ones.BUT if you use both as personal phones to make the same calls, then its a bit obsessive. You could have bought something similar like a laptop and do basically the same thing as a phone minus the talking.
I may not have accounts on different providers but I must have bought like 5 different phones this last year only. I started 2010 with an iphone, then by March I finally saw the light and got rid of my iphone and got a Nexus One with at&t. By august I upgraded to a Dell Streak with its gorgeous 5" screen, but a month later wanted to go back to a SAMOLED screen and got me a captivate. Unfortunately I couldn't get used to the smaller 4" screen so by December I got the at&t tab, which has been hacked as a phone, and so far I'm loving it.
Nevertheless, I think I have a problem. Is there anything like a therapy group for people like me? Help please! :-$

I'm not an addict! I can stop anytime I want!
... I can!
.......... I just don't want to. <_< >_> <_<
I also am not on my fifth phone this year!
I've been doing this same process for about 2-3 years now, and thought I would share. Basically, I'll buy the latest and greatest phone for Tmobile, and almost after a year (usually sooner), I'll call customer service, tell them I'm not happy with the phone, or bored, or really like a new one coming out, etc, and ask them politely if there is anything they can do since I'm not eligible for an upgrade and still inside contract.
Every time I've done this, they have always said, sure, you've been with us for a long time now, and they just replace my existing contract with a brand new one, and give me the upgrade price. I'll end up selling my old phone for the price of the upgrade, so basically I get a new phone each year and don't have to spend one dime. Well, I just called and did the same thing, and they are going to sell me the LG G2X for 260 w/ tax, and I just sold my Vibrant on Craig's list for 260. Should get my new phone Thursday.
I've loved my Vibrant, and had no issues really with it, (minus some weird gps issues every once in a while), but I'm a gadget geek, so I always gotta have the latest and greatest. Just wanted to say thanks to everyone in the Vibrant community, (dev's too), as my Vibrant experience has been great. I'll miss that beautiful screen, but I think I won't even notice with the raw power of the GX2. Anyway, just thought I'd share my story, since I had no clue tmobile would even do this for you. I just called up randomly one day and asked to see what they would say. Tmobile has always done everything they can to keep me as a customer.
I thought this was known? They just add +2 years to your contract
Yea depending who u speak to. Some r willing. Some aren't.

No, the difference is, they basically tear up your old contract, and replace it with a brand new one. ie... if you had say 1.5 years on your contract, and they let you upgrade, your 1.5 year contract would be gone, and you would have a 2 year contract only starting today. So, I should technically have a 3.5 year contract, but only have a 2 year contract.

Please let us know how the GPS is on the G2X. I'm also seriously considering an upgrade, but I've been reading mixed reviews on the G2X GPS, so am waiting for more user reports. (Don't mean this in any way to detract from your decision. I really hope the G2X has a perfect GPS.)
Thanks.
I can understand the "stick it to the man" type attitude, but what a prickish way to go about and purposely do this.
Buy the phone outright if you want new phones all the time. You end up spending about the same in a years time frame. (At least with TMO).
AT&T... well they don't have a "non-contract" rate that's cheaper. I'd have a less irritated opinion then.
So does this work for someone with t-mobile for 6 or 8 months? I would guess not.

If tmobile is willing to do it, and the OP isn't deceiving them, why is it wrong?
thanks will try soon
I've never been deceptive with them. my gps has always wondered and taken a while to lock, even with the fix. I simply told them I wasn't happy with the gps, and wanted to upgrade. The time before that, I said I was tired if my phone. They said they wanted me to be happy and no problem.

So, if I call them up and say
"I'm not satisfied with my phone, the problems with my phone (I have had 2 replacements so far, GPS problems everytime), and Samsung not supporting the phone, is there ANY way you guys can help me and give me an early upgrade?"
And if the rep is nice enough, he will allow an early upgrade?
Exactly. Be honest with them, and of course polite. They still make money off upgrades, so not like they are losing money. The worst they can day is no.

My brother has had the phone now for a day and I've been tinkering with it since he's new to android. GPS works 100%, absolutely fantastic. Using GPS Test I got 12 satellites within 3 seconds and 12/12 locked and all the gps readings are litterally off the charts with 200+ readings. Accuracy is consistent @ 3-10 ft accuracy - mostly at 5ft accuracy. Hope this helps anyone that has doubts on the GPS on G2X because it is NOT a problem .
Didnt know this was anything special. This is all cool if you dont plan changing companies because if you do leave with you new phones im pretty sure theres a etf. Why would any company care what phone you get, your still locked into a 2year agreement. After 1month-or a year, when you get another phone, your still locked into a 2year agreement. Im pretty sure Tmo and Sprint will do anything possible to satisfy there custumers.
I was just at the verizon store here, and was told that I could get a refurb of a droid x, incredible or a charge, since I have been having the missed calls issue. Just wanted some thoughts on what you think. I like the charge's screen, but am a little concerned with another sammy (no update, etc), and not a fan of the cosmetics. Just looking for some debate on what phone to change to, if any.
It's really all up to you but if you're looking for the best hardware specs charge wins. Screen size charge wins too.
It's not really all that though, but clearly superior to the other two.
Charge doesnt have CM7 available if you're a cm7 guy
I would be happy to exchange my Fascinate for a Charge. I love my Fascinate, but the missed call thing is really hard to deal with. I am on my 2nd replacement phone right now, and it "seems" like its a "little" better, but I might just be kidding myself. I still missed a call on Sunday night when I had the phone right next to me on the table.

Take it into a verizon store, and tell them you want a new phone. They didn't even blink. You get those three phone options, Charge, Incredible2 or Droid x. Tell them you can't be missing calls because of work. They have a bulletin telling them to exchange.

different people say they get offered different phones... some get a choice for new ones, some old and it is also a mixed bag as to whether its over the phone or in person... I personally won't give up my fascinate for any current phone, I could care less about how many processors it has or if its 3G or 4G. the things that matter to me are the beautiful SAMOLED screen and how easy it is to modify

Stop calling the store... Call 611 and hit zero. Just bs with them so you go to tier 2 tech support. Tier 2 will check for known issues and find that missed calls are a known software issue. They will then give you a choice to wait for the software patch later this month that will fix the issue or exchange for a different device. You will have a choice between the charge, incredible 2, or droid x 2.

I am updating as many forums I can with the following information:
We have updated our policy on handling missed calls very recently for the Fascinate.
We normally don't request people to call in,but if you are reading this, that may be your best option. Call 800-922-0204 option 3 for tech support. Choose the option foradvanced devices and PDAs. This will get you to tech support.
We do have different options available for customers experiencing this issue while we work on the permanent fix to this problem.
You also have the option to PM me with your cell number, and I'd be happy to review this in detail via phone call or PM.
Thanks for you patience. I know this has been a rocky road for some of you.

yes it will i bought both my fascinate and my girlfriend's fascinate off Craigslist
What I did after about three attempts at getting a different phone other than the fascinate was call Customer Service and went straight to retention to say I wanted to cancel my service. I was asked why and I explained all the problems with my phone (missed calls, phone freezing, etc). The rep asked what she could do to keep me with them and I told her that I needed to be able to actually receive the service I pay for each month. She was gonna try to factory reset and I told her not to waste her time because I've already tried that. Tell them you've basically tried any kind of troubleshooting with the phone and that it didn't work. Then tell them you're not interested in another fascinate to replace the one you currently have because it's the phone that is the problem. They should then offer you the choice of a charge, droid x2, or droid incredible 2.
I wonder if its possible to do this at best buy since thats where I bought my fascinate.
yeah same here i bought mine on black friday at BB
If you get a charge they will remove your data plan and put it back on for 4G. Meaning you will lose unlimited data.

From my understanding on verizon twitter some time ago, people who has unlimited plan from before the price change can still use it for 4g.
I'm on Sprint and ready to upgrade my Hero. The problem though is that the Hero has left me very hesitant to buy a phone with a custom skin, and I will not spend my money on a non-stock Android phone. Is the Nexus S 4G still a good phone compared to current dual core phones or should I just wait until Sprint gets the Galaxy Nexus?
I went from the hero to the NS4G when they had them for $30 after rebate and such, and I don't regret it at all. Even running stock it blows the hero away. Could that perception change over the next 2 years? Sure, but after dealing with the hero being pretty inadequate from the get go I doubt that it will be anything I can't deal with. The only complaint i have found is that the external speaker volume is about half of the hero. I can't pay ~$200+ for a phone any more.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G running CM7/franco.Kernel
Depends on the amount of money you want to spend. The NS4G is a fine phone and I enjoy it and like dpeeps the only complaint I would have is the speaker on it. I like to listen to podcast on my phone, when I'm at home I still listen to em on the Hero, I pretty much use the Hero it as a iPod/MP3Player type device now.
I had to make this same decision back in August and am so happy that I did. There will always be faster, prettier, better...etc. phones coming out so you just have to accept that. I haven't ran into 1 problem yet with my Nexus and I'm not leaving Sprint so for me it's the best phone they had and still have available. I'll upgrade once they get their LTE system in place and phones to work on it.
Good to hear that it is still a very capable phone! I was planning on buying it used off of Craigslist or eBay so that I can save my upgrade for the Galaxy Nexus, if Sprint gets it. I remember when the NS4G came out that a lot of people were complaining about the reception on it and I was wondering if it had ever gotten fixed or if it was ever a real problem to begin with.
Quad Core phones should be coming by springtime. LTE or not, that's what I'm waiting to jump on

I also have a Hero and I'm ready to upgrade. I'll also be getting a Nexus S, but I'm waiting until Friday because it's going to be free! I can't post links because I lurk a lot, but if you check out phandroid's Hero news (or sprintfeed.com, where they got the article from), Sprint is giving away Nexus S' on Black Friday.

Seems for some people it really was an issue, supposedly a update fixed it, I was one of the ones that never had any reception issue so can't say.
ns4g is already really outdated in todays mobile market
spending a few hundred bucks for a phone your going to use for maybe a month or 2 seems a little ridiculous.
you should save the money.
and if i were you i wouldnt wait for the galaxy nexus on sprint, i would jump ship to another carrier like im planning on doing. (with sprint for 9 years now)
sprint reception is getting worse and worse, their data speeds are getting slower and slower
just yesterday we had major problems, couldnt make or recieve calls or send texts.
i would highly consider switching carriers.
that being said if you want to stay on sprint the epic touch is a really amazing phone, held back by its carrier.
good luck
Outdated is probably a stretch. The phone is more than capable of handling anything a dual core phone can handle. I'm sure there's some few exceptions, but spending a few hundred bucks on anything that's as disposable as a mobile phone these days isn't too bright. Wait a couple months and they all become exponentially cheaper on some sale or rebate.

Well do you like huge phones?? The Galaxy Nexus is HUGE...Well if you absolutely need a new phone just now then get a Nexus S 4g. If you can wait a few months to see what comes out then the Galaxy Nexus will probably be worth the wait....

How does this allow you to save your upgrade? Will Sprint do an ESN swap from the Hero onto the Nexus and keep you on your existing contract? I too am interested in saving my upgrade until the new LTE network is in place, but would love a new(er) phone in the meantime.

Sprint makes it easy to swap really... Just log into the sprint website and find the option in there. It asks for the numbers located on the back of the phone under the battery and then transfers your service to the new phone. Your old one should still have a clean ESN and be good to sell. My family has gone the eBay route a few times now to save our upgrades.
And really to anyone talking about only going for pure stock Android phones or waiting for the galaxy nexus, your missing out lol... Take 5 minutes on a 1ghz phone with Sense and you'll be hooked. The Hero just didn't have the power to handle it. And the Galaxy Nexus is really kind of a letdown tbh. In literally 3 months we'll see 2+ ghz quadcores and higher than 8 megapixel cameras as a bonus. And 4.0 ICS will be all over the place by then

Per chance do you know if this works with the old non-premium data plans? If I swap ESNs will they want to charge me the $10 a month "premium data" plan for a smartphone? I'm boycotting upgrading until this goes away. I mean my heroc does everything I need and we've almost got ICS there, I don't see a reason to upgrade. (Yes armv7/front camera/dual core/soon to be LTE would be nice but those aren't "necessities" imo)

The $10 fee is just for any data plan now I think, and its here to stay There isn't a loophole there though I don't think. If you switch to a 4G phone they'll probably slap it on there.

I'm so glad I got rid of this epic failure of a phone! Unfortunately I decided to keep my wife's Note 7 so I now have to go through the whole [email protected] return process all over again..
I'm jumping ship. I can't keep going from device to device. I tinker way too damn much.
I need a device that I can root, hack hotspot and live with. I'll find it somewhere.
Sprint choices are slim.
Still have my original Note 7 (not replaced). Staying with it for now til I figure out what I want. Going to press Sprint hard to allow me to upgrade once a comperable phone comes out. Been with them for 17 years, so if they wont let me upgrade theyre losing a long time customer. Probably going to get an S7e, just really pissed about it.

wait until Oct 20 when the Google Pixel is out. I saw rumors it might work on Sprint network :good:
Went back to my Note 5. Returned Note 7 at corporate store already. The return actually went pretty smooth.
From what I hear there won't be a replacement. If there was I would keep my replacement one till they fixed the problem even if it was 2-3 months down the road. If I thought they wouldn't send a kill switch down and would actually support the phone with software upgrades I wouldn't even care and keep this one, but I have no use for a phone I can't get accessories or support for.
'my phone is running fine'.......I'm sure the one's that caught fire were running fine up to that point too. Just something to think about.
stay.
if there is no replacement. i'll wait until the Note 8 releases then walk in like "this is on recall, right?" and hand them my 7.

I have a pixel c and after playing with it for a while I don't know if I would go the pixel route for a phone or not. Spec wise it's great and it works fairly well but it's just boring. It's neat but it isn't even in the same league as the N7. The phone could be better or it could be the same. Who knows?
I did see the pixel was being built by hTC though and I decided a long time ago that I didn't like the direction HTC was headed as a company and stopped buying their products.

So I had the first note 7 that got recalled I bought offline from someone, not directly thru sprint. Not one Sprint store would exchange it for the revised version before so I had to call telesales with sprint and they mailed me a replacement. Well now after 4 days of having it, they made the 2nd recall. Will a Corp sprint store take my replacement phone back for a refund or exchange for another phone? Or am I stuck with the revised note 7? I'm not having any problems with mine but I'm sure this phone isn't going to get anymore software updates or support since the recall

They should exchange your phone or refund.
To those of you who choose to keep the phone, realize that you'll be the only one liable for any damages now that the phone has been recalled - even if it causes your house to burn down with your family inside.
Even worse, if you ignore the warnings and your phone burns someone else's house down, they'll also have nobody to blame (and sue) but you.

What refund amount would I be getting? I got a old phone I could use. I don't need another expensive phone at the moment.

'my phone is running fine'.......I'm sure the one's that caught fire were running fine up to that point too. Just something to think about.

have you heard any new cases? because there is no way everyone has turned in their phones.
I just returned mine. Do you suppose to see the credit in your account right away or suppose to take 2-3 billing cycles?

Went back to my Note 5. Returned Note 7 at corporate store already. The return actually went pretty smooth.
