so after using the ec power management fw update download on thors forum, i can no longer do anything on my tab, heres what happened, 10am initiated install of said file, text popped up basically saying be patient, its not frozen dont power off. Checked comments on thread, all said 2-3 minutes, 10:30am, still on the same screen, i decided to plug it in so i dont f something up, then had a few drinks and passed out until noon, tablet is still on the same screen. Tried unplugging power and waiting a few minutes, nothing, pushed the vol buttons and waited, nothing, so i finally powered off the device. Now, nothing happens at all when i try to power it on, there is no charging led when plugged in, no vibrate, nothing happens when trying to enter cwm nothing at all, so my main question here is, am i screwed and should i start looking for a new tablet or is there some insane process i can go through to get it back?

You can try sending it back to Acer for repair. Others have bricked their tabs, and they have fixed them for free, although they didn't tell Acer how it happened, and I'm not condoning nor supporting that behavior.

Hello guys, first than nothing, sorry for my bad english, isnt my native languaje. I got this problem yesterday in the night of the new year!!!!!!!:crying: I was rooted, using Xylon and Faux Kernel, but the problem appears from nothing!!
The first thing that I detected was, the phone take a WHILE!!! for charge.... then, out of the power, the phone get overheating and discharging so fast, never in life that happends, when N4 got discharged i try to turn on again but download mode appers in the screen, finally I get in the recovery, then I did a wipe cache/system and factory reset. Install again the Xylon... but when phone finally turns off, when I plugged in to AC absolutelly nothing happends, the led just turn in red, and the N4 dont start in FB, dont get charge, dont do a sh*t !!!! I conect it to the PC but also nothing appends, the N4 doesnt appear in my device list.
So... my N4 its broken?
There was possibly something wrong with the kernel and rom combination that caused your phone to overheat. I think eventually the heat may have damaged your hardware. Sorry but, if something was wrong in the first place it was not a good idea to reinstall the same thing that was causing the problem, if I were you I would have flashed a stock ROM. My only advice now would be to RMA it and pray
EDIT: I found this if it helps at all:
If you are unable to access the settings menu of your device, you can still reset your phone by performing a Hard Reset. Here are the instructions:
If your phone is on, power it off.
Press and hold Power until the device powers on, then immediately press and hold Volume Down (while still pressing Power). You will see the word Start with an arrow drawn around it.
Press Volume Down twice to designate Recovery mode.
Press Power to restart into Recovery mode. You will see an image of an Android robot with a red exclamation mark.
While holding down Power, press Volume Up.
Use the volume keys to scroll to "wipe data/factory reset" and press Power to select it.
Scroll down to "Yes - erase all user data" and press Power to select it.
Note: If at any point during the above steps your phone becomes unresponsive, you can restart it by holding down the power button for several seconds.
Before you try anything else, try and leaving it plugged in for a while and then try turning it on. Or leave it plugged in to a computer then try turning it on.

Try this. I haven't had it happen to me, but I do have a friend who this exact same thing happened and he thought it was bricked. He left it plugged into AC over night, and in the morning it would turn back on.
First than nothing, thanks for reply, I appreciate your intentions to help me.
I will leave it charging all the night and while Im working too... I hope after that, the phone at least turn on.
I dont install the STOCK ROM because I dont have it in my internal memory and I was in my girlfriend house, the night of the 12/31/12, there is not much to do...

I bought it the 13/nov..
I received it 29/nov.
I ALWAYS use stock charger, only 1 time i try to charge it in my car, but it was less thant 5 minutes, I decided dont charge with the car because the energy variates when I accelerate...
After that, I use my phone quiet normal.
I had this problem with my nexus 7. I think my battery died all the way and it couldn't charge. The stick charger wasn't doing anything. But I plugged it into my computer for a few minutes and tried turning it on. Then when the loading screen appeared I ran it to it's stock charger and charged it to full. Your battery probably died. Try different combinations of ways to get it to take a charge. Just long enough to turn on then plug it into its charger. Though the overheating could have fried it

Sadly less than 12 hours of use and my Note 4 will not power on the screen. It charged overnight and showed 100% battery when I woke up. This morning I watched some videos, checked email etc. Then after getting ready to leave for work the screen will not come on.
I've tried the traditional pull the battery, sim, SD card, hold the power button while everything disconnected to discharge any latent power.
Plug just the battery back in, it vibrates and the notification LED comes on blue, but the screen never turns on and there is no sound.
Tried charging it on the way to work and the notification led was solid red, still not able to power on the screen after removing and reinserting the battery/sim/etc in various fashions.
Now it is sitting at my desk at work, I've pulled the battery, put it back in, powered it on and while plugged in the notification led flashes slowly red.
It is recognized by my tablet when I plug it in via USB as "SAMSUNG-SM-N910V" so there is something "on" but there is nothing in that device I can access.
I've also tried holding the volume down and power, volume up and power, just power, holding volume/tap power/release power/still hold volume, holding all the buttons, just to see if I could trigger some recovery mode like every device I've had before with no luck.
I think this one is going back and getting replaced today.
If there are any other suggestions, please let me know. I hope this is a fluke as the device has impressed me so far.

Few weeks ago I found wife's old NST (non-glowlight model) in working order and decided to root it. Rooted it, played around with it. Wasnt too impressed, so just threw some ebooks for my kid to read while on vacation. Left it on my desk for a few weeks as I got busy with work. Today I picked it up as my son's vacation is next week and it's frozen on the "Installing... A new software update is being installed This will take a few minutes" screen.
I mean I googled for several hours, the hold the power button for 20 sec method....the hold the power and the "n" button method, I charged it, indicator light is green. I even opened it up and pulled the battery cable..... NOTHING WORKS...]
Please help. So weird...it was working fine and now frozen.

And I guess the drives don't mount successfully. Well, disconnecting the battery should certainly turn it off. If reconnecting makes it start spontaneously (should not), you could prepare a Nook Manager sdcard and insert it before reconnecting the battery. But this sort of sounds like the ability to boot is lost. Hmmm. I'll have to think about it.
unfortunately disconnecting the battery does not appear to do anything... screen continues to show that 'Installing... " screen. Hoping to get this thing figured out with someone's help

E-ink screens stay the same unless there is a new powered input so it could simply be off, having run the battery down completely during an update (maybe Wi-Fi was left on? That would run down the battery for sure). So if all of this happened during an OTA update, it could be really messed up
When my NST is off, plugging in the power pack turns it on. Initially the LED is green and then changes to orange as charging begins. I'm assuming nothing happens when you do the same. If the OS is scrambled from losing power during an update it may not be able to boot. You didn't say how you rooted. If you used Nook Manager you could try putting in that card and then connecting to the power pack, hoping for a boot from the SD card. If you got that far you could try a factory reset.
My power button is sometimes really cranky and a few times I've run through my entire stock of words that do not come from children's books trying to get the device to turn on. So you might try, but if it's really off the power pack should turn it on.

When I plug in the power cable the light just becomes green it never (not even for a split second) turns orange. Yes, I'm rooted using nook manager. I just suck my Nook Manager SD card in the nook but nothing happens. I'm not sure what you mean by using the power button, in my original post I mentioned I tried the power button with no luck. What do you mean by power pack?

Power pack = charger.
So if the Nook is actually off, attaching the charger with the NM card inserted should make it boot. Did you try the procedure in the link above?
Just tried the procedure of unplugging the battery, holding the white power button for 30 secs, then connecting battery and connecting to charger. There is a split second orange light and then green the first time i plug it in....subsequent plugging results in always green....the issue with the frozen screen on "Installing" remains. Tried the holding x 20 secs method to promt a restart....nothing.... what else can I do?

If the battery is actually "dead" (not impossible on these old devices), the NST will not start, even if plugged in. Do you have a voltmeter of some sort to check the battery? If it's actually charged, it should show a solid voltage. If not, that may be the issue. If the battery is actually charged then there's a pretty serious issue that can't be fixed without access to the OS by ADB, or the ability to boot from the SD card. Beyond my "pay grade", at any rate, I'm sorry to say. There are batteries available online but the price may not make sense.
I don't think it's a battery issue. I had another NST with a good battery but a bad screen (lines all across screen) . I fully charged it using the bad screen reader and used the battery from it for the frozen nook... no luck.. oh well... I guess this is a paperweight now... thanks for your help everyone.
Hey all, I'm posting this here instead the of Verizon forum on here because it seems that the Verizon section has little to no activity.
I've looked at so many posts already on this in the last hour, and they all seem like it goes to a bricked phone. However, mine acted differently. I still want some fresh opinions.
I've had my S8 since 2 weeks after launch and it has worked perfectly fine. No problems and the occasional drop here and there on carpet from sitting level.
Today after work, I turned on my phone, swiped to unlock, it froze on my wallpaper, and went to a black screen. I knew it turned off too, because my Gear S2 vibrated at me signaling a disconnect. Now, it's just a black screen, no responses, no LED's, nothing. From other posts it seemed the "Black screen of death" would still get some LED's unless I'm mistaken. All I get is that my phone only vibrates quickly when holding vol- & Power and is just looped like that. My computer detects it as "QUSB_BULK", which is scary....
Do I need to take it in? Or is there anything I could do to try to fix this. I'm on a device payment plan and at the time couldn't afford the insurance, and I sure can't afford any repairs or replacements of the phone.
You've tried to press Volume - and Power if it enters waiting, volume + and goes into downloading volume rewards - and Power if you reboot as soon as the Samsung s8 presses volume + birby and power the phone goes into twrp.

I don't get any display on the phone, and I've tried every way possible to get into download and recovery mode. It's just completely stone dead other then the vibrating at vol- & Power and the "QUSB_BULK" on my computer. Other than that, it is just a black screen. So I'm still kinda clueless.
Have you plugged it into the wall?
Mine did this yesterday and plugging it in we the only thing that woke it up
It had powered down suddenly
Yea, I attempted that. No life what so ever. Now I don't even get a vibration at power and volume down, so I'm assuming the battery finally died. Let's see if total power loss would affect it much and if it would just suddenly come back to life, but. I am at work so I haven't had a chance to plug it again today. I kept it unplugged overnight while I slept to see if that did anything. So guess I'll find out if I have to contact Verizon or Samsung about it. I've only had it since end of April. So this defect better not kill me money wise.
This just happened to me today idk whats wrong

Did you take the phone in for service? What did they do to fix it, if they fixed it... I have a dead phone and need some answers if they are out there. I'm looking through every post that has anything to do with this subject and coming up blank - just like my phone's screen!
Part of my issue is that I had a shut down from out of nowhere on NYE. I was able to bring it back up with the power, volume up, and Bixby combo the next day. Foolishly I assumed it was a fluke and went right back to using my phone just as I had before. I saw an article about disabling the Bixby button, which seemed to be the thing to do... When the phone shut down the next day again, I couldn't bring it back because I no longer have a Bixby button for the combo. It's been down since Jan. 2, and I'm at my wit's end. Can you please update your phone status? I'd appreciate it if you can!

Lol disabling the bixby button in software does not mean you can't trigger download mode. That level of software has no idea what packages you disabled ?
Did you have Substratum themes applied before updating?

Happened with me last night, bunch of updates and then black. I was gonna send to warranty, then someone told me Power + Bixby + Vl down and it worked. How can I find out what did it
When I called Samsung, they were clueless how to get it started again as we walked through all the button combinations they had. It was fully charged when it stopped working, both times. The second time it took me a few days of trying on my own, calling, Samsung and then going into their repair store.
They took it back to work on it after I explained what was going on. He tried several things and came out and told me it may need a replacement but wanted to try one more thing. Hours later, he came back and said he hooked it up to a charger and it had been dead. Once it started charging, it showed the green battery, lightning bolt and blinking circle. It still didn't start normally, but the three button combo worked at around 20%. I'm not sure if he tried before that, but it came back on.
I've discovered that my handset is extremely sensitive to cold temperatures and shuts down. I'm in the Midwest and have been working outside in a tent like structure. I listen to music, books, or podcasts while I'm working. Many times, I will put my phone on a shelf while charging but still listening. The phone shuts off and first I have to wait for it to warm up, then it has to drain the fully charged battery, and then I start charging it again. After the first time on my own, I did the button combo right after it started taking a charge and it worked.
I'm not sure if a replacement phone is the way to go, because if this is common on the S8, I might end up with another dud that would just frustrate me more. I like the phone, but this quirk is annoying.
Last night my phone was charging and accessible fine. This morning I have a green light at the top showing I assume that it's charged but the screen is totaly black. nothing I do brings up any screen. I tried all the button combos I tried plugging it in to the charger and nothing shows any kind of reaction. I tried plugging it into my computer and the computer said it was setting up device QUSB_BULK. Then said it was set up but even after it supposedly complete I could not find the device. What the hell?
S8 Black Screen
Is the green light staying on? This happened to me on one of the many shut down times I experienced. I think I narrowed it down to my phone not liking cold temperatures, but I don't know if that is your phone's issue. It hasn't happened since last winter, so I haven't needed to do any of this for quite some time, but I'm trying to remember all of the steps I took.
I'm gonna suggest getting the battery drained back down to zero. In order to drain the battery when it's black screened, I kept trying all the button combos repeatedly for, it seems like, maybe three or more days... I couldn't tell if it was dead on several of the occasions, but when I had an indication light, it went off after days of doing any and all button combos, just to drain what battery I could.
Once you do that, while keeping it out of any extreme temps, (if there have been any) then plug in the adapter that came with it, using a good quality USB-C cord and charge it again and see if the charging screen comes up. (The Fast Adapter Charger that connects with USB 3.o is the best to use. Samsung wanted me to use the original cord, but I have no idea where that is! I just used a good quality cord.)
If that doesn't do the trick, then it's not the same issue I had, and I wish you luck on finding out and getting it fixed! Don't forget to update the site for others to find out if your tricks work... (You can still try this, but it may be just to rule it out as a possibility.) Try draining it more than you first did, and then plug it in again to see if it takes a change.
If it is taking a charge again after draining and plugging in your power cord, wait until you get back up to at least 20% and then try the three button start (Bixby / Power / Volume Up at the same time) and make sure you hold them for up to 30 seconds or until it kicks on. One time, I think I held it for almost a full minute. But it did take the change, restarted on the three button combo restart, and didn't have any new issues from its down time.
If this works for you, come back and tell us! If not, come back and report what you try and what the results are.
I really hope that helps! Good luck!

Sounds like a system problem, you can try to use the button to force a reboot, if there is no response, you can try to reinstall the system, if this still can not be solved, then you may need to replace the new screen, you can go to Witrigs to see Note 8 screen, they There is an original Note 8 Super AMoled screen for sale. The price is also relatively low.
