Hello people,
I have a fully unlocked Rogers Canada S8500R ->S8500RUXJF3/S8500RRWCJF3 (RWC) with bada v1.0.
I tried flashing newer firmware v1.2 ->S8500XXKF3, but got a problem - WIFI mac address disappeared. So, I decided to go back to some of the older versions ->S8500XEJL2. Now I have the MAC address and WIFI working, but the phone does not find any GSM network. Tried with two different network providers (different sim cards) with no luck.
I used the instructions and the firmware provided here:
http://www.sammobile.com/threads/45-Samsung-S8500-Wave-Firmwares.
All update steps pass without errors. Using multiloader v5.64.
Any ideas or suggestions how to resolve this will be appreciated?
Bro your wave 8500 cant find the rogers GSM band because you flashed it with a generic firmware so the settings havent been set yet for rogers.
Did you check your phone settings and try to set it to auto? if this doenst work then manually select the gsm band that Rogers uses.
How is your 3g btw?
Yes, it is set to auto. Besides that I'm located in Europe in the moment and no network is detected.
try manually setting it then to the bands that your provider uses.
---------- Post added at 04:39 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:36 PM ----------
oh your in europe now...btw have you activated the sim for MMS/3G?
In my country when we buy a new sim we have to send a code to the service provider so that they can activate the 3g capability of the sim.
Call the service provider of the sim your using and ask them if the sim has been activated for 3g and MMS.
The problem is that the phone actually doesn't find any GSM network after flashing with euro firmware, not just the 3G.
However, there are some Brazilian roms of bada v.1 with which the phone finds network.
Sorry
Where in europe are you now?
The wave 8500 is quadband GSM so it shouldnt have problems finding a GSM network anywhere in the world.
However go back to your original firmware bada 1.0 just to test that the quadband is working properly.
Then take a good look at the other bada 1.2 firmwares because some are not full firmwares ex there are firmwares that require a previous firmware be installed before they work properly.
After flashing back to your original firmware, post the results.
That's the problem..., I can't find any original firmware for Rogers Canada.
If you find any, please, let us know!
I dont know what to tell you
Rogers that rang a bell for me... i looked up at sammobile.com and rogers wasnt in any of the provider firmwares.
Then i remembered years back about the omnia windows 6.5 phone on rogers where they couldnt unlock the phone to be used on other networks until you get an unlock code from rogers.
It seems your phone has a network provider lock which is almost similar to a simlock.
(locked to one provider)
There were warnings on samfirmware before that locked and branded waves should not be flashed without unlocking first.
Ive posted links below including google.
there are several videos on youtube can you try copying the unlock code they used but it seems you have to buy the code but in the video it shows the code try it..

I have done this, moving from the JH3 firmware 2.1 Eclair to 2.2 Froyo after usign Kies registry patch and spoofing Kies into allowing me to upgrade to the recently released Froyo 2.2 update for i9000T phones (ENGLISH) that require full use on the 850MHz band.
I have done the upgrade successfully and wow - absolutely astonished that the now TELECOM branded firmware which *ALSO* utilises the same 850MHz handwith as we do here in Australia via Tesltra - I DO NOT HAVE ANY NETWORK DATA CONNECTION. The only way I can is if i connect to my home wifi.
I now beg someone, preferably an Aussie or Kiwi whi has actually DONE the flash and very clearly explain, in full - either what i have done wrong or how this can be fixed.
Thanks

Side note: 2-3 months ago Telstra AU should've already given their customer base the option to upgrade to Froyo 2.2 and the time its taken (Optus AU first, then NZ Telecom), is beyond ridiculous. I have a separate problem which has caused me to update early due to some bullsh*t link that Andriod market needs to have constantly with G_TALK:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=851043&page=5
Hey man.
I don't have a Telecom Galaxy, but have you done your APN settings etc? Telstra's APN settings should be publicly available, or give Telstra a call and ask them.
It is one thing having your firmware sorted, but if you have no or wrong APN settings, you wont connect to the net. Good luck. :>
Id be inclined to think its apn settings. Just install csc to match your provider.
APN settings not activated properly. Thanks.
Any Telstra users here have the link it takes you to when you open/click "Telstra MyAccount" ?
Thanks
Just install Australia Unbranded I9000DTJP5/I9000XSAJP4/I9000DTJP3/I9000DTJP5 it has all APN settings for the required AUS networks.
he needed 850MHz band.
Did you try this?
http://configure.telstra.com.au/telstra/index.jsp
So after the APN settings were used, was this then fixed?

Hi Everyone,
I recently flashed the Brazilian MS2 SBF (was using Australian Vodafone ROM) in an attempt to get 3G working here in Canada (Rogers; 850/1900).
When I flashed the Brazilian SBF, I was able to get a connection very briefly before getting an error that my SIM is not authorized for this network.
Does the Brazilian ROM institute some sort of SIM-lock? If so, has anyone got around it? I haven't had any problems with UK, Australia or original Chinese ROM (phone eBay'd from HK)
Is it confirmed that the MS2 can in fact properly baseband switch from 900/2100 to 850/1900?
Thank you for your time and help!

u should find ur answer here:

I had a look at that thread earlier.. but no avail. Actually it turns out they released several Milestone 2s, and not all of them are tri-band 3G. Some are dual - this is the risk of getting these phones early off of eBay. Mine is 900/2100 3G - I need 850/1900 3G. Stuck with ****ty EDGE until either 1) I move to a new country 2) my phone carrier changes infrastructure - both not happening soon.
Thanks

By doing a root using the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=32889627 will it help??? or by using bootloader unlock will it help? Please guide me or make me start to do something....
If you are using GSM no you don't need to unlock it.
Just make sure you are on Ice Cream Sandwich or Jelly Bean.
Stick the GSM Sim in there press okay if it says SIM form unknown source and you should get all ur signals.
If you are planning to use it with a CDMA Carrier then u have to do settings flash and hope they stick so u can ask ur provider to connect it to their network.
Also are you using Retail XT907 or Developer XT907 ???
any luck
so we're you able to make the SIM card work?

Thanks for the information but it does not seem to be working. I inserted a GSM (BSNL) sim card into it. Reset all data. When the phone restarted it says "SIM from unknown source". I press OK. It shows a few bars (does not show any data access). However I am unable to make any calls nor does it receive any calls. I even changed the "Preferred network mode" to "GSM/UMTS". Am I missing something? I could sure use some help here.

On looking at the settings->About phone->Status, the following is what I see.
Network:

Network Type and Strength:

Service state:

Mobile network state:

I think the "Mobile network state" should be "Connected". The system version is 98.12.4.XT907.Verizon.en.US
Hope this helps.

I have uploaded the file at h t t p : / / d-hDOTst/FpQ. (I am apparently not allowed to post external links until I have 10 posts.) Though I am not sure why you would want to do that.
Can some upload a copy of the original XT-907 radio? I am unable to find it anywhere. Thanks.

All of the currently available Motorola firmware files are available at that link.
Just download the full XML.zip for XT907 and use what you need from it or flash the entire file in RSD Lite.
New RAZR M
Hi,
Were you able to resolve it?
I have a RAZR xt910 and i am using the verizon leak and for me as well Airtel gets connected and everything with mobile network in status showing as disconnected. Just wanted to share that. Apart from that, i have something new i want to ask about.
I am thinking of buying a RAZR M for my friend, and its available here in India, Mumbai.
But the Reliance guy says its not a boxed piece and he says all imports are opened box pieces and that he has to open the box to edit some PRL settings to enable the phone or data or something like that. He is a CDMA phone service vendor.
Probably for you to enable the phone, you still might have to enable the PRL or whatever.
Anyone here knows what exactly he is trying to do? or is he bull****ting me for selling me an unboxed (probably used) phone from US. The price seems legit as compared to an imported version. And i am getting one year Seller's warranty, i.e. his shop - Reliance Webworld Communications(A known enterprise).
I have also asked this query in another thread for JBX custom Rom as i use that on my RAZR. Will share any details here if i find anything.
PS- I am going to his shop to understand what exactly he is doing so lets hope i find an answer to your problems as well.
Also if anyone knows how to get a proper box piece from US then that is also welcome. We will fix the not able to use issue here itself
This kinda happened to me (but in my case mine was just saying no service [ie the shield with a cross]) , are you sure your sim is activated (since it shows mobile network status as disconnected) or your carrier could just be evil and want you to sign up for a plan, in my case I told them I had a 4g device and to use my phone I had to sign up for a 4g plan (which I did on my lesser mb520) even though I had service (for about 15 minutes) when I just bought the sim and activated it at the dealer

Droid RAZR basically a World phone, means it can work on cdma/gsm networks.
when it got released it's GSM radio was disabled & in later motorola/verizon updates unlocked the GSM signals to make it
world phone.
FYI,
just google "droid razr world phone", you will see multiple sites reporting verizon unlocking the GSM signals on the phone to allow global roaming on GSM networks.
Dude !! i am talking about the Droid Razr M and not the Original XT912
tell me something i am not aware of
the newer variants of razr M arent letting the users to use them on gsm radio
if anyone can help then plz do
Guys plz help me out here
some how this particular razr m is not latching onto gsm network at all
is there anything one can do ?
like downgrading the android version ( which i suspect isnt possible as its on stock JB )
or unlocking the bootloader and rooting it

Your phone is Qualcomm based. The hardware supports GSM and LTE. Did you try flashing a GT i9505 ROM? That should come with a GSM enabled radio. I wonder if the antennas on your phone support your country's frequencies.

I just tried to flash the custom rom omega now for i9505 and working, but first problem I cannot turn on the wifi.I insert my sim card and it says NO SIM card inserted. At original rom used to say invalid sim. Maybe this has to do with the sim lock. I will try to call us-cellular and ask them for unlock code. Also in supported networks now I have also gsm/wcdma but I when I select one of them it returns back automaticly to CDMA. So maybe its something that has to do with the modem. Can I flash a european modem or it will hard brick my device? anyone know?

are you sure that it is safe to do this? some say flashing another carrier modem can hard brick devices! I dont care if it will soft bricked and then reflash it *with odin to revive but I dont want to end with a complete dead phone
I have copied the entire EFS folder to a safe place? is this enough for backup? also tried already this sim unlock method, but doesnt seem to do something, I still have the invalid sim error message.
by dialing *#0011# I find that has all the network settings about WCDMA,GSM,LTE,CDMA, and also all the frequencies about each band.

I don't know if the hardware is completely the same or not. You have already flashed Omega 6 which is based on a GSM stock ROM and includes GSM modem firmware which works in Europe.
The issue here imho is configuring the modem correctly, since it was configured by Samsung for US Cellular so it works in CDMA mode. Does the phone go into GSM roaming mode if you plug in a US Cellular SIM card?
Copying the contents of the EFS partition is not enough. I would use an EFS backup/restore app for that task.
Playing with the baseband configuration can hard brick the phone, as some have reported.

You are right about Omega 6 not changing the modem software. I have been using Omega for S3 since Aug 2012 and I thought the modem firmware was always updated to match the rest of the release. Sorry about that mistake.
Can you call US Cellular and ask if they have roaming agreement with your Greek GSM operator? That might shed some light on compatibility.

Hi, I have the same phone, and I am in Dominican Republic. I need to use it with a local GSM provider, but when I insert the sim card the phone shows the message INVALID SIM CARD.
Did you resolved this issue? If so, please tell me how to resolve it.
Thanks.

Well, if selling it is not an option, you can try flashing an old 9505 XX modem from the post I mentioned previously and then try to SIM unlock it from the service menu.

Can I flash a european modem or it will hard brick my device? anyone know?

did u ever get it?
Hello, I have the exact same problem (hardware revision and country)
Did you ever manage to solve it?
Hi,
I am experiencing problems trying to use my SIM card in my yotaphone 2 (yd201) after I flashed new firmware onto it (when I bought it it was YD206 and it worked). I live in Slovakia and tried to use different sim cards and also I tried flashing different radio firmwares (EU, HK, CN, ... with android 4 and 5) but all i got every time I turned it on was only emergency calls message. I was unable to connect to a network manually nor automatically.
But heres the thing, I live in the UK as well and everything works well there (with my slovak SIM card).
So my questions are: What was the original YD206 firmware (I didnt note that before flashing yd201) was it HK? I will try to flash YD206 again to see if it works and then reflash with just leaving the radio firmware from the YD206 (whatever firmware that turns out to be).
And second, more thechnical question is: Does anyone now what could be the underlying issue here? The technological cause of the problem? Is it incompatibility of the radio firmwares to work with frequency bands of mobile signal in Slovakia? (unlikely since they seem to be largely the same standards as in UK)
Thanks to anyone who offers his opinion, I wouldnt like to have to throw an amazing smartphone just because the call function doesnt work
Regards
Stefan Rastocky
I thought HK was 201 and 206 CN
Are you positive the CN firmware has the same problem as the HK/EU/RU?
And reboot a few time after updating before considering failure" , when i've updated my 201 to 5.0 it took 2 reboots for the mobile network to "get going"
hi, thanks for your answer
Oh, thanks for the suggestion, I didnt think about rebooting. What I did was just to go to settings and try to register on a network. I will try the firmwares with rebooting tomorrow.
Should the combined EU-RU firmware (its radio part anyway) cover all the wireless signal bands in europe? In other words should I be fairly confident that if I install it, the problem, if any, will not be about radio band compatibility?
Thanks again for the reaction. I will let you know about what comes out of it.
By the way is this a forum about yotaphone 2? Since there is a yotaphone 1 picture and description on the title page.

there is no specific yatophone2 forum , I have a "real" 201 but AFAIK the 206 is CN (china) en you need to china drivers in a EU / RU firmware,
frequencies of both models: https://www.frequencycheck.com/compare-devices/qkjseR/yota-yotaphone-2-yd201/yota-yotaphone-2-yd206
(cannot be changed AFAIK by any firmware update)
freq used in your country/carrier https://willmyphonework.net/
Hi, thank you for the answer. According to the last url you provided I should be able to use a network here. FIY:
https : / / www . frequencycheck . com / compatibility / Zlrtl0 / yota-yotaphone-2-yd201 / slovakia
But I am just not. I have also run out of different radio firmwares to try, so I dont really know what to do now.
Could it be that the phone is somehow locked from connecting to the networks?
Thanks
