[Q] Help - can't get service using Brazilian SBF - Milestone 2 General

Hi Everyone,
I recently flashed the Brazilian MS2 SBF (was using Australian Vodafone ROM) in an attempt to get 3G working here in Canada (Rogers; 850/1900).
When I flashed the Brazilian SBF, I was able to get a connection very briefly before getting an error that my SIM is not authorized for this network.
Does the Brazilian ROM institute some sort of SIM-lock? If so, has anyone got around it? I haven't had any problems with UK, Australia or original Chinese ROM (phone eBay'd from HK)
Is it confirmed that the MS2 can in fact properly baseband switch from 900/2100 to 850/1900?
Thank you for your time and help!

u should find ur answer here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=940828&highlight=brazilian+sbf

I had a look at that thread earlier.. but no avail. Actually it turns out they released several Milestone 2s, and not all of them are tri-band 3G. Some are dual - this is the risk of getting these phones early off of eBay. Mine is 900/2100 3G - I need 850/1900 3G. Stuck with ****ty EDGE until either 1) I move to a new country 2) my phone carrier changes infrastructure - both not happening soon.
Thanks

Wildfire Radio Change

hi all,
already searched but could not find a definitive answer.
basically, i have a htc wildfire a3335 (850mhz version) and accidentally flashed to an a3333 froyo (2.2.1) rom, losing the 850mhz (my carriers primary network).
obviously i need to change the radio, but have had no success so need some help.
either
1)revert radio to telstra
2)downgrade and reflash with stock 2.1 telstra rom
3)somehow force the new OTA froyo update
i currently have a generic htc rom, but i don't use the phone much, so the stock locked rom will work fine for my purposes (don't need to root or anything, just make calls).
if anyone can help and is in the local area (melbourne, australia) i will pay well for their time.
thansk in advance,
josh

If you don't have a custom recovery installed your gonna have to wait for alpharev, or search for the telstra froyo ruu on shipped-roms.com (which I don't think exists).
If you do have one like CWM or AmonRa, you can check this tread, I think that there's a link for the "flashable" telstra radio so you don't go back to a branded version...

Edit: here's the link for telstra 2.1 http://shipped-roms.com/download.ph...45.55.24_3.35.15.31_release_138758_signed.exe
If you don't have a custom recovery installed you can check this tread to downgrade to telstra stock... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=921752

thanks for that
i gave the noobs guide to downgrading another shot, seems to be downgrading now. its a tricky guide, not really for noobs, but my basic computer knowledge was enough to work it out. took about 45 minutes, mainly me being scared and paranoid
will post after the telstra ruu completes, then see if i can get the froyo OTA update (which i should have just been patient for in the first place )
phew! all done.
thanks very much for the downgrade guide, was a bit scary and needed a lot of concentration, but worked without a hitch.
long story short, if you want your telstra phone updated, be patient!
I have a Telstra phone that I upgraded to a stock WWE 1.37 ROM.
It works fine on the Telstra 3G network at high speed.
The frequency it operates on is dictated by the hardware, not the firmware.
However if you swap provider to say Optus, then it will switch to 2G operation as the Telstra phone hardware works at 850 Mhz (and others) while Optus netwrok runs at 900Mhz for 3G operation. Therefore the phone will drop back to the 2G frequencies and network and therefore run slower.
Go to shipped roms and select an HTC WWE rom (but not Froyo) and you will run at full speed. Likewise the custom ROMS will be fine also.

Glad to hear that you could fix it.
By the way, a lot of us had to learn android the hard way!
So welcome to the forums!

i dont think this is correct, 900mhz is optus's copy of telstra's country nextG network, called 'yesG' and is only for rural/remote areas
in most places optus etc run 3g on 2100mhz
i have a testra wildfire unlocked running virgin (optus network) 3g/hdspa fine, and i use a virgin dongle with an parabolic external antenna that only works on 2100
since unlocking ive flashed CM7 and a diff radio to get gps working, but i havnt tested to see if i lost 850 support. i will want this back though (if gone) at some stage so will be looking into this more.

I don't think flashing the radio to 3.35.20.10 makes any difference to Telstra's 850 availability.
I am fairly sure that Carnarvon only has the 850 frequency, and I am still getting a 3G indication and 2.5 Mbps download speeds (which is about normal), so I think we are safe!
Cheers

Flashing a newer version of the radio won't make you lose 850MHz support.
I'm running 13.55.55.24H_3.35.20.10 and when i moved back to NZ i first tried to use 2degrees as my network provider, but they run on mainly 900MHz and I couldnt get reliable reception at home, but once i switched to Telecoms XT network which is a perfect frequency match for the A3335 Wildfire (the 850/1900 from Telstra) I've had no problems with reception.
If you really want I can upload the original firmware from the Telstra rom as a flashable zip.
no problems, i will wait till i can test if it still works on 850 and was also wondering if flashing the radio that came with telstra could help get bluetooth working with CM7, but is prob more an issue with CM7

[Q] Android 2.2, no 850MHz 3G band available on X8 E15a

Hi Everyone,
I'm a first time poster here, so please be patient with me.
Just today I installed this ROM onto my Xperia X8 E15a:
MiniCM6-1.0.0 *Released*, Froyo Cyanogen 6.1.3 port for the X8
It works nicely and is a great, except that I can't connect to my mobile phone carrier. I am 99% certain the problem is that my carrier operates on the 850MHz frequency, and I'm guessing that the ROM I installed is supporting the E15i's supported frequencies of 900 and 2100MHz.
My phone can scan for networks and it picks up carriers that use 2100MHz, but doesn't find my carrier, who uses 850MHz.
How can I force the X8 to connect at 850MHz? I know if this can be done it will fix my problem.
Thanks to anyone who tries to help.
JC.
Update Xperia X8 with official firmwares or custom firmwares
Official versions of E15i/E15a listed in this thread. Download the appropriate version and use Flashtool.

Thanks bailey_ca, love your work!
Before I encountered the above problem I bricked my phone while attempting to upgrade to Android 2.2. To get the phone to work I used FlashTools to put a 2.1 rom back onto it, but I mistakenly put on a E15i European rom instead of the US one.
The European rom is designed only to work with 900/2100MHz 3g bands, whereas I needed 850/1900/2100MHz bands, like my phone is designed to use.
I flashed back to the 2.1 rom designed for the E15a model, then up to Android 2.2, and it all works great, 3g and all.
how can i know the bands my phone is using?
I'm having a similar problem.

[Q] U8180 Rom for New Zealand?

Okay, so I bought the Huawei X1 phone, which is a great little phone.
But, it wasn't long before I started to tinker with it, and in the process I lost the stock Telecom rom and ended up having to flash with an Aussie version.
The problem I'm having though, is that nearly all roms I've found so far will not register properly on the network, and as far as I found out, it's because these all came from 900mhz providers and not the 850mhz like XT.
So heres what I would like somone to do f they are keen enough...
Use SuperOneClick to root their phone.
Install RootToolBox.
Flash with recovery-RA-u8160-v2.3 (you may need a file manager like ES file manager)
Power off then on holding both power button and volume up until recovery menu comes up.
Perform a nand backup of boot, system, and data and then...
Please please please upload the files somewhere for me!
Thanks.
Or if anyone has the U8180 Telecom New Zealand rom, can you please upload?
I've tried getting it from wiki.modaco.com Huawei_Firmware_U8180
But none of the links work, or I can't figure out how to get them working.
You've got the wrong forum mate...This forum section is for U8800 - X5 and what you've got is Huawei Ideos X1 - U8180.
Yeah I know, but for some reason I can't find the right forum?
Able to point me in right direction?
You owe me a beer for this
http://androidz.jimdo.com/roms-x1-u8180/roms-u8180-x1-gaga/#.Tlrayl34K08
Not really mate, those roms are the reason my phone is now stuck on the 900mhz version baseband and not the 850mhz version like I need for telecom.
I'm desperate for the NZ telecom version!
Ups, sorry mate, wasn't aware that NZ is 850mhz.
Can you not change the baseband in *#*#4636#*#* menu?

You are confused, the baseband has nothing to do with the 3G frequency, you cannot change a frequency because it is in the hardware not software.
My question is: did it worked before the update? (im assuming that you are talking about 3G frequency bands)
Sent from my U8800Pro using XDA App
Oh I guess I am confused?
Yes it did work before the update.
And no I don't see an option to change anything in the menu.
How would I go about repairing this?
Maybe contact Huawei NZ? via http://huaweimobile.co.nz
I tried that yesterday.
Got some angry little asian man who wanted to know how I flashed the phone and was no help at all
Noticed before that the phone model isn't actually U8180, but rather U8180-7...
I'm guessing there may be a hardware change for NZ?
Can anybody point me to more info on basebands and whatnot?
I don't really understand it all, I was under the impression that baseband=operating frequencies?
Why don't you take it back to Telecom shop and see if they can flash it back? I doubt you'll have much luck on this forum as it's for a totally different phone that runs on only 2D and Vodafone in NZ
you'd be fine if the Huawei links weren't broken, all the links I've tried for multiple models are broken. Keep an eye on them they might come right soon.
Flashed it with U8150 firmware for a laugh, going back to shop today :S
hey there -
I've got the U8180-7 NZ Telecom version if you want - uploading it now to mediafire and will post it in a bit.
Will you return the favor ? I need to purchase a couple of these phones in NZ and have them shipped out to me. But haven't found a way to do that yet.. nobody seems to want to ship overseas or even have DHL pick on my expense from their shop..
rgds,
pirh
Update: seems I can't yet post outside links.. PM me for the link
Hey Luke, check out geekzone:

Problem flashing S8500 to bada 1.2

Hello people,
I have a fully unlocked Rogers Canada S8500R ->S8500RUXJF3/S8500RRWCJF3 (RWC) with bada v1.0.
I tried flashing newer firmware v1.2 ->S8500XXKF3, but got a problem - WIFI mac address disappeared. So, I decided to go back to some of the older versions ->S8500XEJL2. Now I have the MAC address and WIFI working, but the phone does not find any GSM network. Tried with two different network providers (different sim cards) with no luck.
I used the instructions and the firmware provided here:
http://www.sammobile.com/threads/45-Samsung-S8500-Wave-Firmwares.
All update steps pass without errors. Using multiloader v5.64.
Any ideas or suggestions how to resolve this will be appreciated?
Bro your wave 8500 cant find the rogers GSM band because you flashed it with a generic firmware so the settings havent been set yet for rogers.
Did you check your phone settings and try to set it to auto? if this doenst work then manually select the gsm band that Rogers uses.
How is your 3g btw?
Yes, it is set to auto. Besides that I'm located in Europe in the moment and no network is detected.
try manually setting it then to the bands that your provider uses.
---------- Post added at 04:39 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:36 PM ----------
oh your in europe now...btw have you activated the sim for MMS/3G?
In my country when we buy a new sim we have to send a code to the service provider so that they can activate the 3g capability of the sim.
Call the service provider of the sim your using and ask them if the sim has been activated for 3g and MMS.
The problem is that the phone actually doesn't find any GSM network after flashing with euro firmware, not just the 3G.
However, there are some Brazilian roms of bada v.1 with which the phone finds network.
Sorry
Where in europe are you now?
The wave 8500 is quadband GSM so it shouldnt have problems finding a GSM network anywhere in the world.
However go back to your original firmware bada 1.0 just to test that the quadband is working properly.
Then take a good look at the other bada 1.2 firmwares because some are not full firmwares ex there are firmwares that require a previous firmware be installed before they work properly.
After flashing back to your original firmware, post the results.
That's the problem..., I can't find any original firmware for Rogers Canada.
If you find any, please, let us know!
I dont know what to tell you
Rogers that rang a bell for me... i looked up at sammobile.com and rogers wasnt in any of the provider firmwares.
Then i remembered years back about the omnia windows 6.5 phone on rogers where they couldnt unlock the phone to be used on other networks until you get an unlock code from rogers.
It seems your phone has a network provider lock which is almost similar to a simlock.
(locked to one provider)
There were warnings on samfirmware before that locked and branded waves should not be flashed without unlocking first.
Ive posted links below including google.
there are several videos on youtube can you try copying the unlock code they used but it seems you have to buy the code but in the video it shows the code try it..

Inability to connect to mobile networks after flashing firmware

Hi,
I am experiencing problems trying to use my SIM card in my yotaphone 2 (yd201) after I flashed new firmware onto it (when I bought it it was YD206 and it worked). I live in Slovakia and tried to use different sim cards and also I tried flashing different radio firmwares (EU, HK, CN, ... with android 4 and 5) but all i got every time I turned it on was only emergency calls message. I was unable to connect to a network manually nor automatically.
But heres the thing, I live in the UK as well and everything works well there (with my slovak SIM card).
So my questions are: What was the original YD206 firmware (I didnt note that before flashing yd201) was it HK? I will try to flash YD206 again to see if it works and then reflash with just leaving the radio firmware from the YD206 (whatever firmware that turns out to be).
And second, more thechnical question is: Does anyone now what could be the underlying issue here? The technological cause of the problem? Is it incompatibility of the radio firmwares to work with frequency bands of mobile signal in Slovakia? (unlikely since they seem to be largely the same standards as in UK)
Thanks to anyone who offers his opinion, I wouldnt like to have to throw an amazing smartphone just because the call function doesnt work
Regards
Stefan Rastocky
I thought HK was 201 and 206 CN
Are you positive the CN firmware has the same problem as the HK/EU/RU?
And reboot a few time after updating before considering failure" , when i've updated my 201 to 5.0 it took 2 reboots for the mobile network to "get going"
hi, thanks for your answer
Oh, thanks for the suggestion, I didnt think about rebooting. What I did was just to go to settings and try to register on a network. I will try the firmwares with rebooting tomorrow.
Should the combined EU-RU firmware (its radio part anyway) cover all the wireless signal bands in europe? In other words should I be fairly confident that if I install it, the problem, if any, will not be about radio band compatibility?
Thanks again for the reaction. I will let you know about what comes out of it.
By the way is this a forum about yotaphone 2? Since there is a yotaphone 1 picture and description on the title page.

there is no specific yatophone2 forum , I have a "real" 201 but AFAIK the 206 is CN (china) en you need to china drivers in a EU / RU firmware,
frequencies of both models: https://www.frequencycheck.com/compare-devices/qkjseR/yota-yotaphone-2-yd201/yota-yotaphone-2-yd206
(cannot be changed AFAIK by any firmware update)
freq used in your country/carrier https://willmyphonework.net/
Hi, thank you for the answer. According to the last url you provided I should be able to use a network here. FIY:
https : / / www . frequencycheck . com / compatibility / Zlrtl0 / yota-yotaphone-2-yd201 / slovakia
But I am just not. I have also run out of different radio firmwares to try, so I dont really know what to do now.
Could it be that the phone is somehow locked from connecting to the networks?
Thanks
