Ok I am looking for some advice / help on an issue I am having with my vibrant. A few days ago I started to get what appeared to be screen burn in. I could see details burnt into the screen from previous apps / emails / texts etc in the upper half of the screen. Over the next few days this burn in has turned into a giant brown blob / haze. It is getting bigger and bigger each day or two. I was running MIUI 2.3.7 for the vibrant and this is the 1st issue I have ever encountered with my phone.
I have read some about the AMOLED screen and burn in but I am confused as to why I would have burn in to begin with. I have always kept the screen timeout to 30s and never have the screen on for longer than 10min to 15min at a time while using it. I have turned the phone off for a whole day and still there. I have odin'd back to stock and still there. I have downloaded screen fix / burn in tester apps and still there. It appears my screen is calling it quits and I will need to get a new phone.
I got the vibrant when it 1st was released and my warranty is out. I don't have insurance on it either to boot so I'm out of 400 bucks is this is not fixable. The phone has never been dropped and I have always taken extremely good care of it. Just wondering if there is any hope in fixing this and if anyone has had the same issue. Anyone know what the deal is with this and if it is fixable or if a new phone is the solution?
Go down about five threads, worst case scenario you might have to replace screen. if thats the case I believe there are several ops on this and probly a youtube vid. Run every screen test on the market first, Im in the same boat different problem.
You can buy replacement screens off ebay...they're usually like $100 but its better than spending $400 on a new phone ya know. It shouldn't be toooo awful hard to install either. I'd try it if I were in your situation.

Have a brand new TPT. A couple of days someone broke the screen. Still functions, but there is a huge crack in the middle of everything. Sent the tablet back to Lenovo to get it fixed under warranty, but they called today and said they could replace the screen for only $750, when only paid less than $500 for it origionally. Getting them to send it back not fixed, but now I need some guidance on how to replace the screen myself. Any suggestions on where to find a compatible screen and how to replace? Any help would be appreciated.
There are YouTube videos on opening and installing a 3G card. The screen and its connections are shown during the video. Try to find one cheap, that is also broken, but with the screen in tact. Alternatively just get a good used TPT.
Thanks so much. Figured out how to take apart, but new to all of this so not too sure about what to do next. Scared that it may be booby trapped or something. Also I am having trouble finding replacement screen. Can only find 1 on ebay and it is not very descriptive and is in hong kong. Anyone have a broken tablet for sale?
Hong Kong makes sense. What's their rating? If they're new I wouldn't do it.
They have a 98.9% rating and they are ebay top seller. My problem is that "IBM Lenovo Android ThinkPad Tablet 10.1 inch lcd screen display" is my only description. I don't know if it is the right screen.
You could email them asking for specs. OTOH there is only one Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet that's Android. Feel fairly sure that the screen is the same across models.
Also, check the Lenovo forum. Lots of folks there - maybe some one has a broken TPT.
Greetings fellow Tab 7.7 Owners.
Today I stopped by the Verizon store to check on an issue I previously posted regarding the proximity sensor (I do not there there is one installed in the i815 despite the Samsung website claims to the contrary).
So anyway, I picked up the Tab 7.7 on display and opened the market to install an app that uses the proximity sensor (it did not work BTW).
!!! However... !!!
While in the Market, big as life, I could easily see the home screen image burned into the display. I opened several other apps and all had the same effect. I even rebooted the device to see if it might be some software bug that was ghosting the image somehow, but the problem persisted. The home screen is simply burned into this device. Now this probably stays on 24 hours per day however, I was surprised to see that modern devices could suffer from this ancient problem.
So...
If you leave your device plugged in for some time, be sure to let the screen time out. (Settings>Applications>Stay Awake> leave unchecked)
I just decided to get rid of both of my Samsung docks I purchased.

All of my amoled devices have burn in and they are all set on lowest brightness. I try to minimize the burn in on my p6800 by hiding the status bar.

SAMOLED is different with your LED backlit IPAD display.. it's not a matter of Cheap Vs Apple premium, if your IPAD have the same AMOLED screen, even thought it's an Apple, it'll exhibit burn in issues as well.
Strange that my tablet is on all day as my desktop clock and live album and gaming/movie at night, but still no burn in appeared yet (except that mystical faint circles that every unit has). I think you could just take yours to local service center and spill all your guts out to force them to have screen replaced. Just my little two cents.

crap argument of an apple fanboy: ipad uses IPS-LCD, 7.7 features AMOLED (hd plus blabla).
in contrary: amoled is the FAR more expensive tech, although it tends to burn in (which is tech immanent and can't be eliminated totally)!
inform yourself before posting such nonsense!
Hi boys.
Maybe we should shut this thread down. No need to start a pointless flame war.
My only intention was to let people know that the screen burn-in on this device can certainly happen as I saw it very clearly on the in-store demo unit.
I just thought people might want to know so you can moderate your usage patterns to avoid the problem.

Oh I read yours wrong...I thought you said YOUR unit has burnt-in.
Nevertheless I think your post should remain open. I'm quite amazed that how quickly someone would jump into any post to compare Apple's product against everything, just to be shot by facts. This isn't bad at all.
A year ago, I bought the Nexus 7 right on release date. A week after, I cracked the screen. I was listening to a movie, and when I leaned back the headphones tugged the tablet forward and it fell on the ground. It had a case oddly enough. The worse part? I didn't purchase warranty which was an extra $50. I didn't have a job at the time, and I was a young adult who had received birthday money.
Today, I decided to give my N7 a charge and I noticed the screen turned on and it showed the boot animation. I'm rooted and running a rom, but I'm not sure which since I haven't used this tablet in a long time. It'll show the Google plus and an unlock symbol, followed by the rom's boot animation (Jelly bean text plus some bubbles). I'll then see my home screen and widgets, but a few seconds after it'll go black and flicker with lines or stars (small dots, I guess). If I were to touch the home screen, it'll flicker with lines of many colors (consisting of my background picture).
Would I have to replace the touchscreen + digitizer? I'd rather not if that's not the only option available. I don't mind using my N7 with a crack screen as long as it works. I wouldn't mind purchasing the new N7 that I've recently heard about; but still, if there's still some hope less for this tablet, I'd like to use it. I'd prefer to save as much money as I can.
I can post a video if that'd help solve the problem.
I charge my tablet once or twice a week, however, since a week ago my tablet did not turn on after leaving it for a week without charging.
The tablet does not charge, does not turn on and I have tried:
- Different cables.
- Different chargers (official too)
- Direct charging from a computer.
- All possible button combinations.
- Leave it charging all night.
After all the above, still not working. But if I leaving it charging for more than an hour, the back feels a little warm, but does not give any signs of life, it has totally stock rom, never rooted.
Samsung refuse to repair because I loose my proof of purchase, fortunately I still kept my old tab s2
Now, I´m selling it for parts on ebay.

Wow, it sound like LCD issues, very simillar to LG G4 with his screen of death, I'm stay with my S2 for some time and see if it is a extended issue or my tab was the lucky one (ironic mode).

Two reports after it has been on the market for nine months doesn't mean the sky is falling.
Two reports on XDA... probably I´m paranoid. I just wait, the tab s3 its a beautifull tab, thanks for your reply.
I had same experience for a moment. Then I realised that I had set my tab for minimum brightness while being in a bright room. One may laugh, but it is very difficult to distinguish if you have black wallpaper.
Mine would not boot, the screen did work though, I could go into download mode and everything.
Sent it in for replacement and they replaced the motherboard and the screen.
Either they were lazy to see that the screen worked, or there is a screen problem that can cause many problems.

Add me to the list of issues. Tablet wouldn't turn on after being dead for a few days. Let it charge overnight with no luck. I can feel it's on after hitting the power button because touching the screen causes it to vibrate as if I'm entering a wrong passcode on the lock screen. Has to be something wrong with the OLED panel.
Edit: Sent the device to Samsung. They are replacing the screen assembly and motherboard just as they did with the other poster in this thread. I hope this doesn't become a widespread issue.
I was taking my tablet out from a very tight case. After doing so, my screen went black, no video. Sent it in to be repaired. Due to being an intern9model, they refused to touch it. When I got it back, I prayed and slightly bend it in the center of the tablet. Voila, screen came back on!
Possible Black Screen of Death Solution
The link below is obviously a "shill post" from the makers of "phone recovery software" trying to sell it to you, but they have a page that talks about how to recover from the "Black Screen of Death".
[Solved] How to Fix A Samsung Tablet with Black Screen
"Usually on a phone that packs a removable battery, you can take out the battery and put it back in to solve the problem. But since tablet doesn’t have a removable one, this does not work for you.
In this case, just make sure that your tablet is completely turned off and then boot the device into recovery mode by holding Home, Power and Volume Up buttons at the same time for a few seconds. Then you can solve the issue manually."
Similar post on the Samsung Community Forums with a slight difference.
Galaxy Tab S3 will not switch on!
They say the same thing but say to use just Power and Volume Down for 7 seconds.
Even better, I found a confirming post on ifixit site. I trust ifixit a little more myself...
Galaxy tab 3, screen has power but is black.
This solution says to use Power and both Vol + and - at the same time.
I don't have this tablet but am thinking about getting it (less so now that I found this thread (Black Screen of Death? Yikes!)). Posting this info here on the hope that it helps someone else with this issue. If you try this solution, *PLEASE* post a reply and indicate whether it worked or not so others know if this solution is worth anything or not.
I've had my Tab S3 since August of 2017 and no issues. It is a work horse especially on the road (business travel).
Thanks for posting solutions. As to concern of a chronic issue, I'm unconcerned enough that I'm waiting for mine to arrive Mon. This thread was started back in Nov. I'd be surprised if Samsung didn't get a handle on it by now (if it's repeatedly been a problem), especially given that it was released as their flagship tab. I've read of issues with the S3 here and there, but for the most part, people seem to have a great experience with it.
Same issue. Had this since it's release - 3 yrs now. Worked great up to this. Now completely dead. For $600 not acceptable.
