I am currently the owner of a Samsung galaxy s2 and I have to return it for a screen defect. (Third time) question is this, how different in specs is the atrix 2 and the sgs2? I'm just tired of returning this phone LOL.
The atrix is comparable to the s2. The atrix has an hd screen, but the galaxy screen is more vibrant and .5" bigger . Speed wise they are both fast.
This should be in Q&A btw

Atrix 2 Screen
Is actually 4.3 inch qHD non pentile screen with 540 x 960 resolution and the SGSII is 4.3 Super AMOLED Plus screen with 480 x 800 resolution.
Both are dual core processors, 8 mp Cameras and both shoot in 1080p video.
I have had and Atrix and currently have a SGSII. The resolution on the Moto is indeed higher and the screen on the Samsung is very vibrant! I hear the screen on the Atrix 2 is non pentile and pretty amazing. At 99 on contract and 450 off contract, the Moto should get some attention.
I will be going by to see one later today as a possible since I still have a few weeks to return my SGSII. Will watch some netflix and shoot some video etc. I am very interested in battery life and Moto says the battery on the Atrix 2 last longer than the Atrix. My Atrix battery was a brute and so far not so impressed with the SGSII battery for my usage patterns.
Yeah I'm in line at the store now. Ill
let you know.
Does anyone know if best buy will price match AT&T's off contact price?
Nope, lol, best buy does their own thing for off contract cell phones.
No blur phone for me anymore. Had the Atrix and was disappointed. It was never really snappy. Lots of delays and lags on the GB update. Liked the built quality. I will buy a Motorola again when they dump blur or make a Nexus device.

Why would someone consider the Atrix 2 (or any other android for that matter) with the Galaxy Nexus about to come out?

The Nexus S on AT&T came out 9 months after it was released on T-Mobile. So you will have 8 months from now to enjoy your Atrix2 until the prime gets released on ATT. Lol Pretty good.;-)

Well let's think about that for a moment. Some people only have less than 30 Days to get it on contract. Most people can't just shell out Full Price for a phone and some Just got back to AT&T and signed a contract and are almost out of their 30 day grace period. Just to mention a slight reason people might do this.

That's why I picked up an iPhone 4s. Problem is I had to get a 32gb. I figured I should be able to trade it for any device that comes out in the next 6 months.

I was thinking about doing this too. The value of the phone doesn't decrease. So upgrade to a 32gb and later when the prime is released sale the damn thing for 500+. But idk..

Yes it is true hdmi mirroring however when I play videos on it with hdmi mirror it plays like crap on my tv, go figure. Moto gives you one thing but screws it up one way or the other.
Also internal storage isnt accessible on the phone. So you have to use a sd card.

Not for long I bet. I think google will make moto its main android line soon. Samsung is planing to make their own platform and since google bought moto it just makes sense to me. Hopefully they off blur and redesign moto to be apples top competition.

You should really look at the SGS2, as the Nexus S is year old technology. I've had the Nexus One and Nexus S, although having vanillia is nice and clean, Samsung have made good enhancements, espcially the browser being hardware accelerated, no idea why Google don't do this on their phones. and all the extra video codecs it can handle, full HD video recording, just to mention a few.
Just giving you some thoughts before you hit the buy button

I'm on Three and the cheapest I can pick a PAYG handset up is for £499.99 (I'm hoping they would wave the top-up as I'm already a contract customer). Can it be had cheaper SIM free?
Please the OP did not ask about the Galaxy II he asked which display.
Not everybody wants to be stuck with Samsung Bloatware.
Me I would pay the difference and go for the Super AMOLED.

Well the SGS2 has a Super AMOLED Plus display!
I agree about the bloatware plus the fact the one thing that almost killed the deal for me was that this phone was made by Samsung and not HTC.Get the Amoled phone it is a great screen.
Brought the slcd version a month back for £325. amoled version was over 400 at the time.
After having the i8910 I thought I'd miss the amoled display but haven't noticed much of a difference.
Although I do agree super amoled its a better screen especially to watch movies on, also you would get slightly better battery life due to the lower power consumption while displaying blacks.
If I were buying now I would pay that bit extra.

O2 have not been offering that deal for about a week now, Also the SGSII does not come with NFC. I had the SGSII and its amazing, but i love the Sexus S, it feels like a proper phone, nothing can beat the ergonomics of the Nexus S
But the SGSII is fantastic, and is hands down the best phone on the market at the moment. But the NS is still a great phone and should not be taken lightly. You will also get Ice Cream Sandwich first, Who knows how long SGSII users will wait??? The SGS1 users still have not got official gingerbread...

I'm not saying that. The nexus S is a truly wonderful phone, one of the best available. My point was merely that if you are a techie who likes to always have the latest thing, this is probably not the time to buy a nexus. For some, the nexus will do everything they need. But for others, the dual core phones and the games and apps they bring will be a huge want. I am one of those people.
3+ months ago, I'd have happily bought a Nexus S and kept it for a year. Now, I'm waiting for the price of the SGS2 to fall, or the sensation come out. My plan is to get one of those soon while they are still fresh. Then keep it for ages. Because really, once you add dual core and front facing cameras, there is little you can add other than software. The SGS2 is rootable which means updates and custom roms. That, is the phone for me. The dual cores are the beginning of a new smartphone age, but they will stay for a while as there is little you can evolve. The Nexus S doesn't offer that, as it has already been surpassed, and rumours of the nexus 3 dual core no doubt are already surfacing. The Nexus S is still amazing, but it's no longer king (power wise). If I was keeping a nexus s for a few months then it would be great. But I keep phones for 1-2 years. So I might as well get something that is at the peak of android power IMO.
PS:
-The SGS2 is not available pay/go at O2 because of stock issues. It will be back soon.
-I'm not fussed about NFC. It hasn't taken off in the UK at all. It's more of a gizmo than something useful. And it won't be useful until it is in widespread use. And that will be a while.
-Also, I love the look and power and price of the LG 2x, but I hate that crappy LG UI. No thanks

The offer of the o2 PAYG for 400 has been suspended as of last week, check the website, its only back orders they will be fulfilling.
The NS will be at the forefront of software tech, maybe not hardware, but it will always be supported to the full by google. And as for the HTC Sensation, nice phone but the 720p and 1080p are no better than the recording in the Desire HD so i would avoid that at all costs.
The cheapest you can buy a SGSII is 495, Personally i would rather a NS and a ASUS Transformer, which is what i bought instead of just having the SGSII

Yes the phone is 6 months old but the hardware technology is one year old or even more.
To OP:
Nowadays there isnt much difference between SLCD and SAMOLED. Unless you put the 2 side to side , i can bet you would not be able to distinguish bet them.
I would advise you to get the nexus s on ebay for a cheaper price. i am sure you can get a new one for around 260-270 pounds. IMO buying the nexus s more than 300 pounds now is not worth it.

Buying an international version solves that problem. I know you have to pay full prize but you can use your upgrade and sell it here so that you can make up some of the total cost. Also there is no AT&T branding on international version which is awesome. I hate that AT&T logo on nice looking phones

Agreed we don't know how it will look and I'm guessing it will not have a removable battery as well if rumors of ceramic casing are true.
I read somewhere that the Next Galaxy will have a simultaneous world release date (US carriers included); it has something to do with the way the GS2 sold.
That would prolly keep them from making the same mistake like they did making the US G-Nex a Verizon exclusive. Back to the main topic, I will be preordering the One X and if I dont like it I could always sell it and wait for GS3.

You're gonna love the GS3. I upgraded about 3 weeks ago. Screen, speed, and ICS are awesome. Touchwiz is also much better than Motoblur (although I've already started using Nova as my launcher).
That said, my daughter is loving the Atrix and lapdock that I handed down to her. Such an awesome phone that I couldn't part with it as long as someone in my family could use it.
There are a few areas however that the Atrix still beats the GS3. The Atrix bluetooth radio is better. Hooks up faster to my car, and has significantly better range with my headphones at the gym. The cell radio on my GS3 also flips between 3G and Edge more than the Atrix did (sorry, no LTE in my area yet). Also, I'm sad to say that the Atrix has better battery life too.
So, bottom line is that the GS3 is an awesome phone (really love the camera too), but the Atrix still holds its own for an older phone. Gotta love all the choices we have with Android!
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 2
Our company has 4 atrix's... 2 are stock blur and 2 are ics/jb and afaik there are a lot less dropped calls/freezing/glitching on the stock blur roms than the experimental kangs. The only complaints with android 4 is the camera problems! I sure wish motorola would hurry up and release ICS or a lot more people are going to jump ship.
I know I'm eyeing the SGS3. Itis pretty much guaranteed to get updated CM builds., I don't give two craps about Touchwiz, though. The only thing holding me back is that, specs wise, it's not a huge upgrade from the Atrix. So I keep thinking it's probably not worth the upgrade cost.

The GS3 is too big for my liking. Even my SGSII I wish would have a smaller form factor sometimes as well. Atrix with a TPU Case IMO is the perfect size for a cell phone.
If the next Nexus phone has the same size as the Atrix, plus had MicroSD support. Oh man... Yeah that would hold me over for a LONNNNNG time...

And on another note, the atrix is by far the "crappiest" phone on the market. You're obviously not familiar with the Motorola flipside that att STILL sells but can't even get a proper recovery and is forced to stay completely stock, although rooted, if you want a proper working phone.

I say wait for it to be up on amazonwireless/wirefly/letstalk. Though I was expecting them to charge 250$, they always charge 50$ for the keyboard fee. Considering that we most likely won't be seeing any other keyboard phones for a year (sprint already has 3 with this one having best specs). There might not be much choice.
What's funny I was in radio shack with a friend today... they are selling the og epic for $20.00.

Why is it funny? it is always cheaper through a retailer then directly. You can get it for 1 penny on amazon. The only downside ordering it through a 3rd party is if you cancel after 30 days but before 180 days you pay 200$+ extra to cancel.

a no go for the following reason:
1) motorolla device with no confirmed unlocked bootloader
2) non-removable battery is only 1785 mAh
3) only 1GB RAM
So, unless these specs are wrong.... not worth it, IMO

#1 Not true, it has been confirmed that the Photon Q 4GLTE will be Motorola's first unlockable bootloader.
http://www.motorola.com/blog/2012/07/26/unlock-the-bootloader-on-motorola-photon-q-4g-lte/
That said, I still won't buy it, most likely.
Sprint posted a deal on the Motorola Photon Q. If you pre-order and add a line you get a $100 amex gift card so may be worth it if your on a family plan.

Thanks, that was always a concern when it came to Motorola, at least IMO
Still, considering you can get an Epic for $100 off contract and run CM10 on it, and a SGS3 for $150 via Amazon/Best Buy, I am kinda unwilling to risk jumping on board another phone with slim development prospects, until I hear otherwise. Perhaps if CM accepts the device...

My main interest is because of WORLD phone. I can us e GSM on travel and makes life much easier. I wish GS3 had GSM slot. I read that there is some long way of getting there with GS3.
i would have been willing to put up with Motorola shenanigans if the thing was 720p, but it's only QHD
looks like i'll have to go with a NOKB phone.
in other news, i know someone who will LOOOOVE the Kyocera Rise on VM... $99!?!? cut the check!

Is the lte sim card user accessible? If so, you can probably use gsm from there, just like on some verizon droids not advertising gsm capability.

Doesn't it have a locked GSM slot? I remember hearing something about Verizon version being hacked to use GSM in europe. I doubt sprint version is any different, but your gonna have to research it.
How does the qHD screen compare to AMOLED???? No one has answered this for me.

This isn't true. LG has a keyboard phone in the pipeline called the Cayenne.
The Photon is a no-go for me due to embedded battery. As it is I need to use an extended battery with the Epic and always carry a spare for backup.
When batteries were always replaceable I considered physical keyboard my deal breaker. Now replaceable battery is my deal breaker. I'd like a keyboard too, but if I *HAD* to choose between keyboard and replaceable battery I'd go with the replaceable battery. Keyboard does me no good if the phone is dead...
It's going to be made in Texas!:

Motorola is coming out with a bunch of new phones, and the Moto X in October.

does american labour mean that the phone will cost $2500? LOL
and this is google edtion phone? not nexus phone?
maybe google do not wanna to bring the other android device manufacture's heart down
You're right about Google not wanting to piss off the other mfr's. They do not want to give Motorola any unfair advantages.
This is probably going to be relatively Vanilla in its release, as Google's Larry Page and Sergey Brin have hinted that much. However, it will not be the Nexus 5, as they are calling it the Moto X. Read this: http://www.ibtimes.com/moto-x-motor...nexus-5-will-be-made-usa-release-date-1283813
Also, they are saying the phone will be very competitively priced, and given the proper factory, Americans can make a hell of a better device than a Chinese person treated like a slave can. Happier people work better. Just ask any rich Chinese, they refuse to buy things manufactured in their home country.

Agreed, gotta see the specs before I commit though I'm interested and keen enough to put off buying the s4.
interesting....
if Motorola dosen't wont to crash she need to surprise us...rly.
Moto X Specs
The Moto X may have mid-range specs, but don't some devices like the iPhone or Galaxy S3 and S4 variants have mid-range specs too? It's the OS that makes the phone run smooth, not necessarily the specs it has. iOS and Touchwiz are perfect examples of this. I have never heard of a Touchwiz device or an iPhone (current generations) that run slow with their mid-range specs. Also, project butter should speed things up right? I think people are immediately counting out a phone based on specs not on usability or experience with the device. It's way to early to tell considering official specs haven't been dropped yet.
Looks are OK, but features needs to be kick a**
All I care about is the screen being bigger than 4.5, and a battery with at least 2500mah... I'm using a GS2 Epic with a dual core CPU, running 4.1 JB... It runs just fine... This dual core will be significantly more powerful than my GS2, and close if not more powerful than the GS3 CPU... And updates, updates, updates... Can't forget about the updates...

Really cool design
not a nexus
I saw the release news and videos, and I immediately threw my wallet at my screen. If they sell it for around $300, you'd be dumb not to buy one. I really hope it will work on WIND....

I agree, but it's $200 with a contract so I wouldn't expect to be able to get one for less than $600 or so (other phones that are $200 with a contact are priced over $600).

Nexus phones arent usually announced until October/November time. At least that was the case for the Nexus 4 and the Galaxy Nexus.
In any case I pre-ordered mine through Rogers so I will be anxiously waiting for it to come whenever it does.
I like moto x
