Thank you - Droid Incredible General

I would like to take the time and say thank you to everyone with my Droid Incredible. I have been using Nile's rom for the last four months. I love his work and all the help from everyone. Today my Incredible battery took a Sh!t on me. So I went into a Verizon store today because my phone is only 10 months old and is still under warranty. First I waiting 2 and 1/2 hours in the store because of the Iphone sale. After waiting and the tech checking my battery, he told me that Verizon and HTC could not get me a new battery, after he made a few calls (and he called HTC and Verizon Warehouse).I'm up for upgrade but I'm waiting for the Nexus Prime or HTC Vigor. I had to tell them no 4 times on the Iphone with a $50.00 off the price because of no battery for the Incredible and still under warranty. So they gave me a free Incredible 2 with no new contract and still have my upgrade (if I un-rooted my phone per the store manager LOL). I've had 7 cell phones and the Incredible was by far the best phone I ever had. Everyone on the Incredible forum has been very helpful and fun. I'm not the chat type of guy and only posted a few times when I had a question. So thank you and keep the Incredible alive for the next few years!!!!!!

Would you still recommend buying an EVO?

Hey guys,
I used to have an HTC Hero, but it died on me and I had to switch back to my several years old Blackberry 8330. I have the opportunity to get the EVO but I'm trying to do some research. I have seen a lot of reviews talking about poor battery life, but I can't really tell if that issue has been fixed since the launch with the new updates. The phone itself looks great compared to my old Hero. Thanks guys.
I would. I also put my money where my mouth is. I bought one 2 months ago and just bought my wife one last week.
Battery life can be fixed with rooting and a custom rom and kernel or just buy the ext. battery.
I'm running Ultimate droid 3.3.1 (GB AOSP) with the tiamat 4.0.4 SBC kernel and a 2200mha battery. I have no problems getting 24 hours out of mine ( I may get better but I'm used to plugging in a phone overnight because I had a Blackberry that had to be plugged in every night)
I had the EVO 4G for almost a year, wouldn't recommend any one to get one now. I'd tell true tech enthusiasts who want an android phone to get the Nexus S 4G now, and the average user to wait for the EVO 3D to come out in 3 weeks.

I've had the EVO since release. That following day.. seriously, I was heading to E3 with this phone the record and take pictures. knowing ahead of time what kind of battery life to expect (thanks to advanced reviews.) I not only bought a spare battery, but an external battery as well....
...I barely had enough juice to last me through a day.
Fast forward to now. (or yesterday... wait, what is today.. thursday?) And battery life isn't nearly as terrible. if I use the hell out of my phone, using an undervolted Kernel, not overclocked with brightness stuck at 40% and wifi turned on (not 4G) I might be able to squeeze 12hrs out of a single battery. MIGHT... that, again, HEAVY usage. like, lots of games, texts, checking facebook, pictures, etc. light usage, easily all day. definitely NOT a battery sipping phone by any means...but, it did get better.
if you have the chance to get an EVO for cheap, DO IT. it's a fantastic phone with a HUGE community. If this is through Sprint as an upgrade. Wait, there are a few phones over the horizon that, frankly, frightening me a little in that I think it might refuse operation and cut off oxygen supply to the living quarters (EVO3D and Galaxy S II, AKA: Galaxy Within. AKA: HAL 9000)
If I were you, I would probably wait for the EVO 3D which is just around the corner. The EVO is a great phone, and I will probably have mine another year because I'm still under contract. But since the EVO 3D is right around the corner, the EVO will lose support soon IMO. This can already be seen by the gingerbread update. Still sense 1.0...
Plus the 3D has dual core processors, among other things, which sounds pretty cool.
EDIT: Or wait for a different new phone, but as fast as technology improves I personally would not buy a phone that has been out for a year.
If your contract is up and you can get an upgrade, I'd go for the 3d. But if not and you're just buying the phone off someone, then you can't lose.
dude i would be on top of that evo like white on rice, i dont even think ill try to change mine for like another year, its just so customizable and overall complete, battery life is pretty good, not the best but its by no means bad. i get 12 to 30 depending on use
Hey guys,
Should have mentioned that I would not be buying this from Sprint. I bought my Hero in February 2010, and it died on me before the first year. I don't want to sign a new contract.

ok... then... froma friend? craigslist? what are you going to be paying?
$100? do it. $150? probably do it. $200.... ehh... that is where it starts getting touchy for me.
Personally, I wouldn't go above $150 just because there are other things coming.
If you can get one for a good price I say do it, its a great phone.

I've had my EVO since release day and have never regretted it. I love this phone. I will be upgrading to the EVO 3D if everything is OK with it. (Unlocked bootloader, Developer Support, etc)
I bought my wife an EVO yesterday to replace her POS Samsung Moment. She is thrilled! Soon lots of people will be selling their EVOs to upgrade to the EVO3D or other Sprint Android phone. I got my wife's from a guy that was forced to switch to AT&T by his employer. Got a perfect condition Hardware version 003 EVO with a screen protector, Otterbox, 3 batteries (2 extended and the original), an AC battery charger, and an extra USB cable for $250.
If you are planning to buy an EVO and not upgrading, I'd go for it. Unless you want to wait for the EVO3D. Soon you will be able to find EVOs cheap!
Yea buddy its so customizable I don't even really see myself as having jus 1 phone cuz ima flashoholic n change roms pretty much every other week n some roms fit the mood I'm in like if I wanna watch netflix n I kno ima be bored going somewhere I flash back to a 2.2 rom so I can watch but if not I'm on mik g v1.0 anywho I'm mo in love with my evo now than I was when I 1st got it
Evo is the best phone you could ever ask for. Hands down will go down in history lol unless of course they top the evo n 3D in the future lol
"Perfect is almost good enough"
I just purchased my Evo off a friend for 100$ a few days ago, and i've been playing with it non stop ever since.(rooting, flashing all sorts of roms, updating radio and wimax)
If you get a good enough deal, i'd say it's worth it.
And I replaced a moment with it, dear god what an upgrade.
just do it
its a sweet phone, im rooted with a 3500mAh battery and I've been gettin 1 day+ on sense 2.1 & 3.0 Roms, 2+ days on stock. if you aren't trying to get the evo 3D then the EVO is the next best thing (I know the nexus is bad ass and all, but I'm a HUGE sense fan, so I couldn't go with stock android)

Sprint HTC hero replacement?

Okay I have the $7 sprint insurance and my phone fails to connect to the sprint network(unrooted and stock 2.1).
I went to the sprint store today and they said they fixed it because the PRL was outdated blah blah blah....and the pohne worked fine.... for 2 hours then it failed again.
I chatted with sprint about it and a rep told me to go to the sprint store to get a new hero(he first offered me a refurb instinct! because he did not have any refurbs for the hero).
So tomorrow I have to go to the store again to claim a new hero.... but I'm 99.9% sure I won't see it since its discontinued.
What phone should I ask for if the hero is not in stock? (I am not asking for an evo or evo 3d just the next comparable phone that replaced the hero)
definitely do not get the instinct worst phone ever lol. if anything try and squeeze the lg optimous s out of them, it was very similar to the hero accept it didn't have sense, if they don't have any heroes in stock that is.

LG Optimus is very similar spec to the hero but better for some reason. Also has a real proximity sensor, still doesn't do flash. This would be a sidegrade though, you should shoot higher, sometimes the reps are good about that.
EVO 3D would be ideal but aim for a EVO Shift
Instinct is a big NO WAYYYY!!! That phone almost had me give up my cell phone and get a landline again it was so bad. The Optimus is a decent phone. My son has one and he generally likes it, however it doesn't have a large developer following so your ability to stick with it for the duration of your contract could be problematic.....if your contract extends beyond the next 6 months or so.

If his Hero is stock he'd probably be happy with an Optimus.....Agreed there. The Hero has been a lot more fun for me to tinker with though IMO.

Last time I checked (about a month ago) Aosp was primarily for the Optimus V some reports were that it would run on the S but it was buggy as hell and required the hard buttons remapped.... There were only 2 roms at the time worthy of a daily driver (stock & 1 custom). There were ony a couple of custom kernel choices and very few tweaks. It's also quite cumbersome to root (had to follow like 5 seperate threads and the screen is totally blank for 3/4 of the process). Please don't get me wrong it's not a bad phone, but if you're used to all of the customization of the Hero (like me)....I personally find it somewhat dissapointing.
***EDIT*** To be fair and objective since I don't give my son's Optimus the same love & TLC as our other phones & Nooks. I just popped over to Android Central to have a fresh look around. It seems like the rooting proccess has improved substantially in the past month and there are a couple of flashable "Sprint fixes" for the Aosp rom. Also new since I last visited is a unofficial beta CM7.....For what it's worth.
I sat down and had a beer with an old friend last night, he told me he had a samsung moment and since they didnt have that phone in stock he got an epic 4g.
They offered him a keyocera android phone and he said he paid for a high end samsung phone when it came out...not a keyocera.
I played with the optimus at the store and I like it...my upgrade is in 2 months...if they're feeling nice and let me renew my contract I'll get an evo 3d.
But an optimus S will be fine
I only need two things...my dish network tv everywhere app and pandora...
Lol.... this is what they offered me directly from my sprint web transcript
I can offer you one out of below mentioned refurbished phones for free. The contract will not be renewed. Once your phone will be eligible for upgrade, you may upgrade:
LG Lotus(Refurbished)
SANYO SCP-3810 (Refurbished)
Samsung Reclaim(Refurbished)
SCP-2700 by Sanyo (Refurbished)
Samsung Instinct (Refurbished)
Going to the sprint store soon... 1 hour drive... hope I get this solved once and for all.

Well lets wait and see if I get the new phone on Friday. 99.9% guaranteed i'll get a refurb but meh its worth avoiding the $100 deductible from asurion.
Played with the optimus in the store again... the thing flies on stock 2.2.
Played with the evo shift and the slider feels firm compared tot he epic which feels cheap in the hand.
Going to use my upgrade towards the Galaxy S II or Motorola photon on september or whenever the phones are out

Sprint done stocking HTC Evo 4G

Alright, when I had the HTC mogul, I was maybe one year into my contract and it broke. At this time time the insurance company and sprint stopped stocking this phone so I got a free upgrade. When do you think they will stop stocking the evo 4g considering no one will really be buying it anymore since the evo 3d is out. My evo has dead spots and I dont want to turn it in and then a week later realize I could have gotten the 3d. Anyone have any insight on this?
I don't think that will happen anytime soon. Of course, someone posted here that they do not get that many EVO's turned in with issues so they do not have alot of refurbs to hand out. I just had mine replaced by Asurion last week and got a NIB EVO. My son lost his moment a few months ago and the replacement device would have been another moment and that phone is almost 2 yrs old. (and a pos, I got Sprint to reset my upgrade because there was no way I was going to pay the $100 deductible for another moment). I think you will be waiting a very long time.

I was just at a local sprint store today and as I was getting my Evo checked out for random reboots and my sound going up and down on its own and thats without being rooted.. he opened up a cabinet and much to my suprise there was tons of OG Evo's and a few 3d's.. Yes the 3d is being scooped up fast, but I dont think it will be for a very long time before the OG Evo is done with and not being restocked.. its still one of the top sellers for Sprint
The evo has reached EOL as of a week ago or so. So that means they have stopped making them. So basically the only evo's left are what stores already have, and maybe a few left in their warehouses.
Generally when a phone EOL's, there will still be refurbs available for warranty and insurance claims for at least a few months after the EOL date. After that, you will probably be given an upgrade to a new phone.
I read somewhere that Evo's will stop being produced in a few months, but their production definitely has been reduced because of the 3D.

Good luck getting an upgrade. I spent 5 months trying to get a downgrade from sprint fixed. Ultimately I had to use my upgrade and get a new phone. So good luck with being upgraded by sprints warranty.
We have 2 OG EVO's with best buys warranty instead. Had a samsung moment that broke 2 times and the second they didn't stock it and "upgraded" us to a samsung intercept (really a downgrade). Five months later I had to use my upgrade on my sons account and get him the EVO shift (his choice) and got a whopping $50 or $75 credit for the 40-50 hours I spent on the phone and computer trying to resolve the issue.
Anyway. Bottom line.
Good luck with that. I hope you do get upgraded!!!
No surprise.
I seen a few peeps get an og evo today
Still popular
I took mine in for a error 78 issue they offered a refurbished evo replacement but they advises to wait if I can maybe I can get a cheaper evo 3d in a few months maybe even a free nexus s

The EVO 4G is NOT EOL right now. I'm actually selling more of the OG EVO than the EVO 3d, although that's likely becuase I only handle corporate and government accounts, and they don't want to pay twice the cost for the EVO 3d now that the EVO is $99.99. The Evo still does everything business users need it to do and more, so it's popularity really hasn't waned like previous smartphones did (the moment the EVO came out, NOBODY wanted to be on the Hero, even though it was the greatest thing since sliced bread about 9 months before).
If I had to guess it will be a long time before you start seeing EVO's replaced with newer phone models on a regular basis, if only because we seem to reserve more phones to cover exchanges on the really popular models once they've gone EOL. usually when I see a lot of options for other phones models it's on a handset that we only sold for a couple of months and nobody wanted wanted anyway (anybody remember the Moto Q9C? Be thankful you don't! I could replace that with a different model within weeks of EOL.)

hey now, I stock with that piece of junk q9c until the hero was released. picked it up on day one. I'll hold on to the evo until something better comes up even then it is going have to really offer a lot more than what I have now.
That would be the nexus prime. It should be here before thanksgiving n it will be the ULTIMATE android phone to date no matter what carrier your on. It will also start to dissolve other brands u.i. due to that being the main reason behind 90% of all problems we have with our phones. This way we won't have to worry about looking for exploits to obtain root because Google already made the root, eventually it will just be a simple click in the settings like turning 4g on n off
A month or so ago Best Buy told me that Sprint is doing early contract renewals. It was supposed to be a limited time offer. Maybe if you're nice they might still do it.

Question bout T-Mobile's customer service..

I got my G2 on Christmas day, and had it replaced about 2 months ago, due to the screen dying on me, then about 1 week ago the same thing happened, another one they sent and I got it next day.. this phone they sent me now is refurb, how do I know? When I'm on a call, the speaker sounds like your under a bridge above a nascar.
When I record the call (with MIUI) I can't hear it and the person is VERY quiet on the recording even when yelling.
********************
So I have to call them today or tomorrow bout it, now here's where I have a question: if I said I was tired of running into these problems or something and said I wanted them to send me a Sensation 4G do u think I could get it to happen? If I reword how I ask might it happen? Just curious before-hand if u think T-Mobile will do such a thing.
And I have insurrance, which is why I get new ones..
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 w/ Tun4's Bulletproof MIUI!!!
you'd definitely have to pay something extra in order to have them do that big of an upgrade for you.
Sorry but they're really not willing to give you a huge upgrade from a G2 to a Sensation 4G for "free".
this is now my 4th replaced in 5 months.

I realize that. But the Sensation 4G just came a couple months ago. The G2 is nearly 11 months old. They have PLENTY of replacements to keep sending you.
Your best bet is they'll offer you a MT4G or Sidekick 4G. or MAYBE if you beg and plead you'll get a MT4G Slide.
Good luck convincing them though. It really depends what CS rep you get and how many levels up you can get and how much time you have to spend dealing with them till they offer you a deal.
Unless you've been a customer since the voicestream days, never payed your bill late, under a contract thats about to expire, have had several replacements in a short period of time, and are dealing with the customer loyalty department, no. Even then, maybe.
You have 2 options. Ask them to give you a new one(if in stock they will after this many times) or they will give you a new HD7 windows phone. They will not give you a sensation nor any other phone besides what I mentioned. I know from first hand experience if you are wondering
That being said, if you are a long standing customer with a near perfect track record, ask them to send you to the retainment department and threaten to cancel service. They have far more power than your standard cx.

why dont u keep the fone, they are getting harder to find in mint condition.. dont forget to delete the sms_registry and the SMS log if on 6.5 and u sell it

This should be posted in the Marketplace section found here.
On a side note I bought a new phone as well about a month or two ago, the HTC MyTouch 4G Slide.
This phone for me has great specs. Dual-core, slide out keyboard and what a lot of people say is the
best camera ever put on a cell phone (same as Amaze 4G if i'm not mistaken). Well anyway I've used
my new phone a total of 3-4 times in the past several weeks. I just can't for the life of me let my HD2 go.

I hear you In fact, I am after a motherboard to assemble second HD2 I have in bits waiting to be fired up. I play with lots of various latest models and as much as I liked Galaxy SII, especially in terms of camera and general speed, I will not be parting with my HD2 any time soon. I feel tempted by One X though...
I'll admit the specs on the HTC One look pretty great and would love the phone myself as well. I would need to see how big the screen is though. I came from the two smaller phones to the HD2 and it took some getting use to in my pocket. Infact for the first few days it felt more like a small book in my pocket then a phone. Since the HTC One is close to a half inch larger i would need to play around with it before buying.
I don't know what's next for me. anything with hardware capable of lasting as long as the hd2
HTC one X - this will be another popular thread in XDA & HD2 will be heading to the Legacy department
...but i wil still keep my HD2 untill the day it dies
Keep as a back up. Hd2 is a legend
