Go into "settings" "about tablet". If you're on 3.2 it's somewhat of a pita to downgrade back to 3.1 to gain root access.

Is there any chance to get devices running under HC3.2 rooted.

If you already took the update you have to downgrade first, then install a pre-rooted stock, or custom 3.2 ROM.
Here's the thread on how to do it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1276227

with 3.2 ota your going to have to downgrade then upgrade custom rom. I found the easiest way to do this is download the bricked update zip located in the thread mentioned above, put it on sd card. Boot using power and volume up. Flash the room, prior to this make sure you have acer recovery and iconiaroot installed. When you boot you cannot use an onscreen kb. Simply run iconiaroot, and then install cwm via acer flash recovery. Then you can install any of the prerooted 3.2 roms located here and wala no data loss.

Lol yes it just makes the numbers look better that way. Getting close to posting a gaming centric recooked rom here shortly with support for both android and linux native extensions. However as it is based on 2.2, I would like to wait and see what I can do with ICS. I just hope my above post was useful to the op.

Which one is better?

Hi
I am currently rooted on my Transformer
I have PRIMORDIAL v3.1 on it with Clemsyn-Blades Overclocking kernel for 3.1 Release 3
I would like to know
1) Can I update mt Transformer to the latest release...I believe I have HC3.0 on my TM now.
2) Can I get HC3.1 on my TM?
3) If so, what will happen to the ROM I have on it? What will I have to do?
4) Is PRIME! v1.4 better than PRIMORDIAL v3.1? What advantages? if so, should I install it?
Lots of questions, but any help is appreciated.
Thanks
Regards,
Misfitz
Well if your using primordial 3.1 then your on... hc3.1 :-D
Its an easy update from primordial 3.1 to prime 1.4, just flash prime 1.4 (i would wipe first but others havent bothered) and then reflash blades kernal for the OC.
Dont know what the differnces between primordial 3.1 and prime 1.4 are but as primordial was a 1 off and prime is going to be updated i would move over.

You have to flash a custom kernal which supports over clocking.stock kernal won't support over clocking.

If you want to keep the stock 3.1 first put use the instructions on the forums to put CWM and Acer Recovery from the market on your tab(will require you to root it). Then go here
http://xda.richardtrip.org/Acer/a500/kernel/
download v2.5 and use the Acer Recovery Installer to install it. The Recovery app MAY have the option to download 2.5 directly inside it, but I can't remember and now have an A100.
Don't get anything newer than 2.5 because as per this post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1170319
which is the creator of the kernel, the newer ones are all 3.2 only. If you're not comfortable doing all this, you may want to wait until the stock 3.2 OTA is rooted, then use the newer kernel versions. It's my understanding that if you do all this and get cwm and a custom kernel on stock 3.1 you'll have to undo it all before you can use the OTA to 3.2, which should be arriving any day to your device.
Try this one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1138051
and add 2.1b Update for 2.1 (really essential for full rooting)

Ad-free after 3.2 OTA

I am wondering if ads will still be blocked after updating to 3.2 and losing root. I have un-rooted before and ad-free continued to work. Really, now that 3.2 supports ntfs ad-free is the, a in thing I need root for.
Please let me know your experience if you have updated with ad-free installed.
Adfree works by replacing the HOSTS file. So if you do not have root the ad servers that are in the hosts file will continue to be blocked. What will happen is the ip addresses of the servers are changed they will no longer be suppressed. This is why you have to update ad free from time to time.
Updating the HOSTS file is what needs root access since it is on the /system partition with read only rights.
Thank you, I will go ahead with the OTA, and hope that I can root later on down the road.
If you upgrade the hosts file will be replaced by the update.

If you update to OTA 3.2, you will be unable to root the system.
And as painter_ has pointed out: You will need a rooted system to make changes to the HOSTS file
NOTE: The devs maybe able to get root working at a later time, as they work on updating iconiaroot, but there is no garauntee...
You might be better of flashing Taboonay 2.1 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1138051): which is a pre-rooted 3.2 rom

Actually with all the id10t problems we've been seeing with taboonay, he's better off installing a pre-rooted stock 3.2 ROM, but the point is moot, as his post was so long ago, he's most likely made his choice and committed to it

IMHO, a post that is, only, 12 days old is hardly what I would consider 'a long time ago', when compared to posts that are 1-12 months or 1-2 years old.
Just my opinion.

No need to get worked up. I did end up going with taboonay with Richard Trip's kernel. For the most part I am styling so to say. I couldn't live without ad free.

Successfully updated to EB01! .. in a funny way!

I was having a very difficult time trying to update my stock DL09 to EB01. First problem I encountered was CWM. If you root your phone and install CWM, make sure to install the 2.x or 4.x version instead of 3.x. It seems like once installing 3.0.0.8 (to be specific) it won't allow you to flash certain Roms.
The awkward part happens here... Because I had 3.x in the beginning, once I go into Rom Manager -> reboot phone to CWM -> it goes to 3.x and it shows me this error
"amend script(update-script) is no longer supported
amend scripting was depreceated by google and android 1.5
it was neccacery to remove it when upgrading to clockwork mod 3.0 gingerbread based recovery.
please switch to Edify scripting (updater-script and update-binary) to create working update zip packages.
installation aborted."
However, after installing another CWM version through Odin, after I reboot my phone manually instead of going through Rom Manger, it takes it to CWM Voodoo Lagfix Recovery v.2.5.1.x (-_-
Now because i was in this, I was able to download EB01 with the help of this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=948722
Another awkward part is that I didn't wipe data/factory reset when installing. Phone rebooted, it was updated WITH Root. How did this happen? I have no idea. But for sure it is updated to Froyo 2.2.1 and everything works fine.

Just wanted to share this story
That's like me saying, "I finally upgraded to Windows 95! It was very challenging, but, in the end, I finally left Windows 3.1 behind!"
Seriously, though, you know that there are many newer Gingerbread builds, and even newer Froyo ROMs right? Why not give one of them a try?
Has anyone seen John Connor?
Agreed, you are running something months old and also kind of ****ty. EB01 is a leaked build that was not very good. Were I you, I would upgrade to one of our gingerbread ROMs like TSM Resurrection..
Will def. do! i'm very outdated with all of these lol

yes...follow section 2 of the guide. odin eh03 then flash superclean3 or deodexed eh03 if you just want rooted stock! Superclean3 is rooted, deodexed, debinged, more customizations. Stay away from eh09 if you want stock like reliability. The eh03 is verizons gingerbread not a port like eh09/ei20.

Will be joining you guys soon with the A500-08S08u!

Hi there,
I'll be joining you all soon with the A500-08S08u from Best Buy. I've done some research and it seems this item is the best tablet due to added functionality of USBs.
I would also like to know if there are any restrictions as far as changing ROMs/rooting that I should be aware of. I know that the Asus Transformer has 2 models (?) and one cannot be rooted (?). From what I have read so far, the Iconia A500 does not have any such restrictions but I would like to hear from you, the experts.
Thanks!
No restrictions, but...... if your tab comes with 3.1 HC, I advise you to NOT upgrade it to the OTA 3.2. Acer changed the bootloader, and you'll have to go through several steps to root it if you upgrade it.
So if it doesn't have 3.2, then simply use the iconia root apk, and get acerinstaller from the market to flash your custom recovery.
If it has 3.2 already installed, then see the following;

Bootloader.blob IIRC removed, and pre-rooted are what you'll find in custom ROMs, and Stock pre-rooted ROMs.
I guess I will be joining you guys as well, not till x-mas. lolz, found out that I am getting the acer for x-mas!

Thanks for the info. I found out that my particular Best Buy model does contain 3.2 Honeycomb so I will be going to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1276227 to revert back to 3.0.1

After the rollback, you can use either. Not sure which version the acerRecovery uses, but it should work fine. (I only used it once quite awhile ago)
After getting back up and running with a new rom, just check the recovery version., If it's the older, and you want to, goto www.tegraowners.com and get the newer recovery.

Get the latest version of CWM for our tabs at tegraowners.com.
There have been improvements in the scripting, as some people have had some problems when using the recovery portion of CWM on the older versions (like the one that comes with Acer recovery tool is old).
Tale your time when doing the downgrade and follow the instructions step by step, and you should be fine

Thanks. It appears the Acer Recovery Installer comes with an older version but you can put the newer version on the SD card and it should work accordingly. Nifty
edit: I don't have the SDK installed so no ADB functionality-- I will probably use it if everything else fails. I don't even have the tablet yet, but I enjoy preparing for when it does come

Great thinking. Then you're less likely to be one of the many tools in this forum that will be posting "Help me, I bricked my tab".
