You should say " unable to boot into recovery" instead of " unable to update to latest stable on sd card".
You have 2 options
1. Continue trying the magic combination of power/N buttons or
2. Boot into CM7 regularly then select reboot recovery from there.

Hi I have tried option 2 many times but doesnt work . I had come across a thread somewhere that talked about the u boot bin, that some only work for the inital install of cm7 . If I put a mult bin boot on the card would that work ? Regards

If option 2 didn't work, you can try option 1.

Hi I have had multiple trys with option 1 not working . In evergreens post it sayes that the soft boot doesnt work yet with the imag update only by the magic buttons .
How to update if you already installed using older version of the installer and don't want to reinstall (understandably):
•Get update zip from http://crimea.edu/~green/nook/update-genimage-1.3.zip
•Put the zip file as is onto the first partition of your sdcard..
•reboot into recovery (triggered by the keys, the reboot into recovery does not work yet).
•The new version would be installed and you are done.
•You can combine this installation together with updating to .32 kernel in one step. Just put the update-cm file and the update-genimage-1.3.zip to the first partition. Make sure there is still at least 1M of space left!
I deleted both updates off sd card went to parsus partition mangaer to check at least 1mb space and there was 4.3 mb space in the boot drive . I then redownloaded the files and thought I would retry . When I put the sd card with cm7 on it in the card reader to copy then redownloaded files in it only lets me put one file on. It sayes disk in destination drive full , first I tried with the http://crimea.edu/~green/nook/update-genimage-1.3.zip so I deleted it then copied the cm7.1 stable and it let me do that, then I tried to recopy the first one back on and it comes up with destination drive full, so it will let me do one but not both, though I originally had both at the beginning before I deleted and redownloaded and attempted to redo
I did try to update to the release candiate end of july but couldnt get it to happen either and thought I would wait for the stable but no luck either . I am so confused it should be simple it was simple when I first rooted my nook in June . I do want to be able to update regularly I am just not sure why its not happening . I download the files to the computer , put the cm7 in a card reader and copy them across ?? . Then try the reboot using a clock with a second hand I must of tried 40 times . What am I missing . Any help appreciated
This is what was originally on my sd card
update-genimage-1.3zip 1kb shortcut
I have redownloaded the file and saved it and I havent got the shortcut at the end which may have stopped it from updating ? when I originally tried .

If the update imager gives you so much problem, then why not create one from scratch?

Thanks Votinh I have redone a new sd card . The first time it didnt work. It didnt get past the penquin set up stage. I had loaded the image and the cm7 and the gapps altogether so I reformatted it . This time I just burnt the image and installed the cm7 first . When that was up and running I did the gapps and it did work . I am just going to try titanum backup on my old card and transfer across to the new card, just need to work out how to do the transfer . Thanks again. I have transferred mydata and. Apps very happy

Yeah, as I instructed others, do one at a time, it's un-convenience but it works.
Glad yours up and running.

Exactly... and that's also why I promote the use of adb to mount /dev/block/mmcblk1p1 to /sdcard/boot.... makes it easy to copy things to the boot partition for installing gapps and updating AOS... don't have to remove the uSD once its set up.

Good point!
A lot to learn, m8
Thanks

HELP! can't mount SD card (i've already tried all the fixes)

I've been using android on my phone for awhile, and tried a bunch of different builds and never got this error. Yesterday when i was switching back to shubcraft all of the sudden the boot loader gives me
mounting /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 on /sdcard failed: invalid argument
failed
failed to mount sd card. cannot continue.
/bin/sh: cant't access tty; job control turned off
i tried loading just about ever build and get the same thing.
I've changed the startup.txt and i always reformat before i switch builds. i was thinking it might be the sd card itself, but it works fine in winmo.
if anyone can help me it would be much appreciated, im having android withdrawls...
oh and its the stock 16gb class 2
EDIT: It randomly started working again...strange...
This Is What I Do
I was getting either the same thing or something very close to it on about 2 rom to the best of my understanding is when your trying to flash (for lack of better words) a new rom you still have some left over traces either on your storage card or the phone so what you need to do is format your SD card and reflash your phones rom.
I took the origin file put it on my sd card unzipped it there went into the android rom folder cut the plain android folder paste it withe the other folders then reased every folder EXCEPT the PLAIN ANDROID FOLDER now put the sd card in the phone enable the the sound then install android.
To be able to watch the process after you flash your rom go to settings, system, power (battery) and uncheck everything so it doesn't sleep. when you install now you will see the progress and will be able to read the progress if you see 2 things have failed
This is my process and it hasn't failed yet when I didn't do it this way I had fails.

you can search a tool named SDFORMATER V2.0, it will be worked.
okay this is now happening to me as well!
had been using Android and various different builds without hitch.
but today after trying the Hyperdroid build the sd card fails to mount on startup.
Editing the startup.txt does nothing, have also flash to the latest chuckyrom and formatted the sd card time and time again and tried different builds.
anyone have any other suggestions?
Ta
working again now.
the fix for me was to reupload my backup to the sd, format then upload the required new build.
very odd...

[Q] freeze on rebooting

Hi guys,
I've been trying out different android builds but after a while it won't boot in android anymore.
I run the CLRAD and HaReT, it show the command lines and then freezes on the HTC screen.
It is not the first time I'm launching it, everything is allways set up the way I like it and then I want to reboot a final time and it freezes. (first boot only takes 10 min.) Then I have to take out the battery to reset, but everytime after it freezes, tried waiting for +1 hour but no changes.
When I delete all the android files from my SD card and copy the original ones it restarts again and I have to setup everything again.
I tried new wm roms (Miri HD2 wm6.5.x) different radios (now 2.12.50.02.2),
the new HSPL3 but nothing seems to solve this.
edit: now I'm trying to use the mdeejay froyo HD v3.7 rom
I've searched the forum and other users seem to have the same problem, but no solutions have come forward. The people replying allways seem to think it is the first boot that takes 10 min. but it's not that. First boot works fine.
I would love to have a solution so I can start using android on a daily basis.
If you need more info, just ask.
I was having the same problem initially...very frustrating. Now i found the permanent solution for this problem. The problem on the second time or more on rebooting is depending how do you install the code in the root of SD card. Please follow the instruction carefully as each ROM (depending on which one you use) may require the files to store diffrently in the "root" of SD card. So read carefully after you unzip the code, where should you transfer the files in the SD card. Either under SD root or SD\Android (directory).Eg. I'm using FroyoStone_Sense V3.2 ; use 7-Zip File Manager program (can be download), then execute (click on the downloaded file : FroyoStone_Sense-V3.2.7z ) with the 7-Zip File Manager then you will get 2 directory 1. Android 2. Media and one readme.txt file. Copy the directory 1 and 2 in you root of your SD card. Then you run thru file manager, CLRCAD.exe follow by haret.exe . This the first setup. Let it run and setup your device. It will work and the second time you reboot, just run CLRCAD.exe and haret.exe as usual, your device will work perfectly..Good luck.
Hi, Just to add another note for you convenience if you are using different android build ef Mdeejay_Froyo_Sense_v.2.4.2_NextSense; when you extract the downloded file using 7-Zip File Manager, you will get 2 directories 1. AndroidApps and 2. Media with the rest of files including CLRCAD.exe and haret.exe .Copy and paste exactly the structure into your SD card. It will run beautifully and you will not have probelm on freesing on 2nd reboot even for the next reboot...hope it helps and try it out.thx.
I've the very same situation and Khairon i tried that method doesn't work...
Still same issue...
Any one can solve this?
cheers
Hi, use file using 7-Zip File Manager program to extract the downloaded zipfile. I've tried severals Android ROM builds and it works well on my HD2 after 2 weeks of trial and error on the freezing after the 2nd reboot. To increase your chance of success, reformat the SD card only then copy the files into the SD card.
Thx
all done, still same 2nd boot = freez
dont understand wots wrong
i am using the mjeedy's revolution build
is there any way to completely burn the android to HD2 like wince roms?
cheers
i was having exactly same problems as u, so i formatted my card with a card formatter, not through windows but used a card formatter, installed android agian and bingo it works, im using droidrom, radio 2.12, with the card format do full reset not quick this should work
full format is not working either
I also noticed that there is a file popping up on my SD card : EncFiltLog.menc
Searching around points to SD card encryption, but this is turned of in windows.
I checked with Miri, who made my windows rom and he said it's not set in the rom itself.
But this might explain everything, when I reboot the linux bootloader can't read the SD card because of the encryption.
Only thing now is to turn it off, but how can I do this when it is off in windows
I also had that file today on my "goldcard", the old 2GB SD-card shipped with my HD2. I tried the old card, because I can't start android (on 16GB sandisk) anymore.
Hi, I have the same problem.
Reboot freeze on 16GB Kingston.
Working fine on 2GB SD.
On both SD card is the same formating.
it doesn't seem to be related to the SD card i guess, I also tried my original 2GB card instead of my regular 16GB.
Both give me the same problems.
Hey anyone got a resolution to this??
my build works on my gb but not my 6gb card???

Same here. Maybe its something to do with UK Hd2's.
I followed all the instructions too, and kept getting stuck in the boot screen loop.
Back to Nand for me... one thing, on screen before screen to flash zip it says can't find misc, even when I make a misc folder it makes no difference. Good luck to you anyway.

Can you tell us what you're doing and what happens?
i Copy contents of copytosdroot folder to the root of my sd.then i boot into magldr and go into USB Flasher whilst still connected to my laptop,Run DAF,when thats done i again boot into magldr and tap Boot AD SD but it keep failing to go into Clockwork,i keep getting soming like k:Music/zimage not found or failed to load kernal even tho ive fully formated my sd,its really anoying,i cant try out any new roms exept nand,Really frustrating
I had problems running like this initially - what worked was putting the 'copytosd' files in a folder on the SD Card (I used 'ADSD'), then changing the Boot AD SD folder option in the Settings menu to that new folder ('ADSD').
Then try using 'Boot AD SD' option.
For some reason it did not like the root folder initially (though it now seems to work fine).
Use Panasonic SD Card formatter & re format the SD card & try again, I had the same issues but now its resolved..!!!

Guys,
Mine works as well so not a UK issue
Did you follow the instructions using DAF and indicated that it was successful but when you try to 1: boot from sd nothing happens or it flashes and returns to the MAGLDR screen?
I had an issue with the root folder as well, create a folder \recovery and copy the 2 root files intrid.gz and zimage to the \recovery and goto services and change the boot to folder to \recovery.
Important reboot before trying as MAGLDR does not change the folder until after a reboot.
Boot from SD and should be OK
Or at least was for me
Now Nand has came out it has inspired a lot to create their own Android builds and new chefs make mistakes. Not trying to blame chefs in general but some do make mistakes.
Also when we used to load up the builds from SD card, I would say 8 times out of 10 I would use a data.img which hasnt been used before. Now if you go from a Sense build to a non-Sense build, and you are using a data.img in app2sd, then they are not properly matched so a-b might go to a-c and miss b out if you know what I mean. What I do is use a data.img for Sense, another for Sense HD/Z, another one for Gingerbread and another for Miui and these are on my Desktop. When I load up a different builds like Sense to Miui, then I will move the data.img from .data or data2sd folder off the memory card and then overwrite the data.img I have on the Desktop for Sense and replace it for my Miui data.img.
I know it sounds tedious but I found it to help.
Also for the new App2SD+, I create the partition using ClockWorkMod instead of another application. I will use Partition Wizard for Windows to delete a partition and resize the fat32 partition back to the full use of the memory card but always partition and create EXT3 partition using ClockWorkMod.
Hope this helps.

i have a slightly different problem: I can boot into clockwork recovery after copying the copy-to-sd files and use it as a partitioning tool. But cant actually complete the installation as I keep getting errors when i run the DAF file from CWM folder in USB flasher option of MAGDLR, so cant actually use it for recovery !!!!

[Q] Help revert OTA 3.2 back to 3.0.1

good afternoon
I have an ACER Iconia Tab to 500 HC 3.2 and using the second method of this post (Revert OTA 3.2 back to 3.0.1) and gets the android logo and a yellow triangle, someone might say it is?
Or if someone knows how to connect this tablet in Windows XP
thanks
Did you remember to extract the zip file that was in that post? The file that is to be extracted is update_not_stable.zip. Once you extract that, there should be a file that is called "update.zip". Make sure that is the file that is on your external SD card.
yes, I put the update.zip on the microsd and also have put the update.zip for content if that, but it works.
thanks
So does that mean you got it to work? I'm not sure if I fully understand your last post.
my English is disastrous to use a translator to express myself. Did not mean that workers but does not perform the recovery
Could you possibly outline the steps your performed so far, and perhaps I or someone more knowledgeable than I can offer better assistance.
I followed the steps are:
1 - I downloaded the file.
2 - I've extracted and copied to the microsd (update.zip) formatted to fat32
3 - I turned on the Iconium and has begun "erasing cache beforing SD update... booting recovery kernel image"
4 - android robot appears with a band and then carrying out erde a triangle with an exclamation in the middle of the icon.
Hmmmmm, I can't see anything that jumps out at me as being some wrong.
The update.zip is still zipped right? You right clicked on "downgrade_not_stable", extracted that, removed update.zip and out that file (which will be unzipped) into the root of your external SD card.
There is also the off chance that the file you downloaded got corrupted for whatever reason. If it won't work perhaps you can try to download it again and follow the steps.
hello,
i have the same problem. I did the same : unzipped, put on the external sdcard the file and I have the logo of the bot with the yellow triangle..
I downloaded again and again, restart from the beginning and I can't downgrade.
someone has an idea why it doesn't work ?
Thanks
same issue with mine... not too sure why i'm getting the error as I've been able to do things with the SD card before, so I don't think its an SD card problem.
Not SD problem
I already tried with differentes SD cards. They all work, but unable to start the downgrading !!
Maybe the file is not compatible with my tablet. How can we check ?

What tab to you have? The A500?
Make sure that it is the file "update.zip" that is on your sd card. Make sure this update.zip is still a zipped file.
Other than that, I don't know what could be wrong. I did the downgrade with no issues.
Thanks for the answer.
My tablet is an iconia A500.
I unzipped the file downloaded, that gave an update.zip. I put it on the SD card. The tablet recognized the file but stop just after find it.
I have no idea whatelse to do.
TRy and try again.
Finally it worked !!!
It was a download problem in fact for me.
I hope it can help.
maybe i'll try downloading on another computer (this one has XP?) and see if that makes a lick of difference. this is getting frustrating.
Still no go. Even did everything just on the iconia and still get the yield sign when trying to recover during boot.
Hi , I did it right now and it worked , installed iconiaroot and CWM and all went fine, but I have another problem now :
external miniSD can't be seen anymore and I'm not able to install any custom rom . If I go to recovery and pushing "install zip from" : it always goes to E: directory sdcard (and it 's not found)
Is there anyone that can help me ?
Thanks
Ramp
Hello,
I had this problem with the update of tabonay. The problem was a ";" at this end of the file :update.zip
Retry and check you have a .zip at the root of the external SD card
Hi
The problem is that I can't see neither micro sd external card nor USB pen anymore on my system
Please help
Thanks
Great that It worked for you, It doesn't work for me, do you think this will work with a USB since I can't get it to work with an SD

Cant flash Rom with CWM

Hey dudes,
i took my x8 after a while out of dust and i flashed the nAa-11. So i want to flash a new rom (ICS), but every file that i copy to my sd card looks like corrupt. There is always an error with (bad) in it.
And yes i downloaded the rom 4 times and its the same though.
But theres another problem, i flashed the nAa kernel new because i thought it was a problem there, now my x8 only goes black. (At the moment on stock to get SMS )
Does anyone has an idea to solve my problems?
try flashing with xrecovery?
I managed to get the CWM working again but all my files seem to be bad.
Dude, for the best roms u will need CWM so i dont use xrecovery anymore.
I try to download miui so i will see if its ok.
Hi exebreez
Try this:
- Backup the data on your mSD to your computer (i.e. put the card into a mSD adapter).
You get any errors in Windows about "File can't be read"?
If not...
- Format the mSD FAT32 in Windows (NO QUICK FORMAT!)
Format went through without errors?
If yes...
- Copy the data back onto the mSD
Windows coughed up any errors like "Failure while writing to drive x:"?
If not...
- Put the card back into your phone and turn it on.
- Connect the phone in USB-Storage mode to your computer
- Copy the update ZIP you would want to flash
- Pull a md5sum of the file on your computer and pull a md5sum of the file on your phone (the USB mass storage drive).
Use this free utility to perform the job.
Do the md5sum's match or not?
thanks mate
