[HP Touchpad CM7 Alpha][Guide] Android Market - TouchPad Development

There is an update out that will fix the market as well as getting facebook. Thanks to joshts0 to bring it to my attention.
New:
"Anyone fix the many apps hidden in the market? Do we just need to modify the build.prop? What should we identify as.... guess I could just try some...
edit: Maybe if I were to look it up I would have found the answer, durr. But also, I just happened to refresh this morning, and I see 9 minutes ago there was a fix. http://code.google.com/p/cmtouchpad/issues/detail?id=65 . Is it okay to quote from there?
TS can you update the OP?

For those who do not know how to get the google apps on the Touchpad including the market place Here is what you need to do:
Assuming you already have CM7 installed (I followed "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9XDmKGmn4vs" and got the files from the Youtube description) and have it all up and running all happy:
1) Download "gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip".
2) Be running android on your Touchpad.
3) Connect the USB to your computer and Touchpad.
4) "Turn on USB storage" on your Touchpad.
5) Copy "gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip" to your root directory of your Touchpad.
6) Turn off "USB Storage", hold down the power the button and hit reboot, select recovery.
7) Screen should say "CMW-based Recovery v5.0.2.6. Use the volume buttons to navigate to "install zip from sdcard" (the sdcard is the memory built into the touchpad that is shared between android and webOS, NOT a REAL SD card) and press the home button on the bottom of the screen.
8) Now select "choose zip from sdcard", press home button.
9) Navigate to "gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip" and press home.
10)Navigate to "Yes - Install gapps-gb.........zip. Should install.
11)Press power button and select "reboot system now", hit home.
Reboot into android and setup your google account. If the google account setup doesn't come up right try restating your Touchpad and see if it comes up. If nothing try to reinstall gapps again.
Sorry for being long winded but I wanted to make sure that my steps are clear.
Once you get the market place working you can get Netflix and many other app but remember that the CM7 is in Alpha. Most apps are not likely to work but some just might. Try it out.

I am experienced in android from 2 prevoius devices, but this never happened to me before.
Market is there, works perfectly, but once I try to install any app, it keeps Downloading the app forever and ever, I know this is not a CM issue, its Market or google issue, just wanna know if some of you guys have been in the same situation and did you find a solution.
After google I tried:
Deleting the market cache and data.
Reinstalling gapps via CWM.
Moving apps in SD to internal data then deleting .android secure folder
Uninstalling Market from Titaniumbackup and then re installing from it.
deleting cache/ dalvik cache.
Fixing permissions
None of those things worked...

From what I've seen, add "update-" directly in front of gapps, or whatever zip you wanna flash to the touchpad for that matter, works well.

I keep getting fc's its my first boot up and I've tried this about 5 times

I don't know what's wrong with your setup guys, but mine went flawlessly. I mean in 10mins I already had android on my tablet, incl CWM recovery + working gapps. Been playing with it for a few hours, had no problems, installed a few themes (honeycomb colors) and tried different launchers, overclocked it..
It's an amazing port, there are some bits and pieces that need to be fixed of course, but other than that i havent had any serious problems.
Just follow the instructions correctly and you should have any problems

Everytime I restart and hit recovery it just reboots into cm7 what am I doing wrong thanks

when you reboot hold down the volume up to get into the boot loader. Did you use the same guide I used?

I am having the same issue..

I believe we forgot to install moboot, could someone explain how to install after cm7 install thanks
sent from 3d greatness......

just put the moboot file, the gapps and CWM zips in the cminstall folder
then run again ACME installer.
It will skip everything already installed and will go directly to your new packages.
Enjoy....
PD: nobody has an idea how to fix the never ending downloading from market...? I cant download anything... so frustrating...

Well just use USB drive in android, and move the files, if you cant boot CM7, you better go to webos doctor and start everything from zero.

I had the downloading problem too. At first things were downloading fine. I think made the setting in the Market to ask for a PIN and after that things wouldn't download. It didn't hit me it may be the PIN I rebooted and still no dice, then went into the Market settings and turned my PIN off to download and install things and it downloaded apps. I didn't turn it back on to test because heck didn't want to rock the boat

I can boot cm7 I works great but I cannot go into cwm to install gapps. I just need to know where I move moboot in cm7 to make it install. Sorry for asking so much I just cannot understand how to do it. Thanks

you can do this way, boot to webos, enable disk mode, copy the moboot into cminstall folder. reboot, and you are able to go to cmw and install gapps.

Doing so brings me to the large USB icon used to install CM7, but we need to get to either CWM recovery, or first go back to webOS to add gapps to the cminstall folder and then redo the install of the novaterm cminstall (at which point)

When I connect to USB mass storage while running CM7 do I just make a new cminstall folder at the root of android, and then proceed like before? I cannot find the cminstall folder I made for webOS when looking through the files while running Android.
Thanks!

All I had to do was reboot the touchpad and the never ending downloading issue was solved. Once you reboot go in search for the app and redownload it, even if it shows it is downloading in the my apps section

ur using the power up/down to move along the menu and home button to select, rite?

I have installed it, and it's working. But, when I try to buy an application, this message appears: "The item you were attempting to purchase could not be found". Honestly, I don't know if it's happening because of this fix. Is there someone with the same issue?

Z4root

So I looked into z4root on the market and what is the difference between temporary root and permanent root ( I know the difference between temp and permanent ) just would like to know what they do differently to the phone.. also if I root is it necessary to back up with titanium?
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Temporary root is going to root your phone for "1 session". Or in other words -you hit "temp root" and Z4 will root your phone. But when you reboot- you will no longer be rooted. Now- if you download apps from the market the require root access- those apps are not going to disappear when you reboot your phone- but you will not be able to use them until you root again with Z4.
Permanent root means that when you reboot your phone you will retain root. It does not mean that your phone will be permanently rooted. Z4 has an unroot button (i believe) so if you ever have warranty issues- you unroot and uninstall any root applications before having the phone serviced (or do he infamous sbf).
If you root your phone you do not have to use Titanium backup. Titanium backup backs up applications and their data only (both system apps and user apps). Titanium does not create a "nandroid", or a full complete restorable back up copy of your entire phone. To do that you use another app. You can search the market for Droid X Bootstrap Recovery. You use that app to boot into recovery and create a nandroid of your phone.
But you don't have to do any back ups at all if you don't want. But the good thing about having a back up is if you mess something up- you can restore to a functioning copy. If you screw something up and dont have a back up- you have to perform the sbf. If you don't know how to do that then you would have to make a visit to Verizon so they could restore the phone for you.
Sorry for the long post -especially if you knew all that already.
No no that helped alot man... thanks...so I dled rom manager and all what next just download the rom and im good to go?

Ok - first of all - be careful. I don't want to sound preachy or condescending- but I don't want you to brick your $500 phone either.
1. Make your nandroid back up before you install any rom. If you can get that figured out, then you are on your way. It took me a while just to figure out how to work that app.
2. I guess a lot of people install rom's through rom manager (obviously). I never install roms from there. I download them from there- but I do not install from there. I use the Bootstrap recovery app to install rom's. That is just the way I do it. All the real clear instructions were through Bootstrap app so that's how I went about it.
Not sure if you figured out the Bootstrap recovery app yet and I was real confused by it so here is my best run down from memory...
1. open it.
2. hit "bootstrap recovery". You will get a "success" dialog box and you hit ok. If you don't get it something has gone haywire.
3. Hit "reboot recovery". Your phone will reboot into a funky green screen that renders your touchscreen inoperable. So you have to navigate the screen with your hardware buttons.
the volume rocker is for cursor up/down
the red camera button is for select or enter
the back button will take you back a screen (so when you have done what you need to do -hit the back button until you get back to page 1 and you can "reboot now").
here is another hint about recovery that has messed a few people up. some of the rom instructions tell you to "...go to 'mounts and storage', mount data, wipe cache..." (actually I just visited a few rom threads and it looks like they have cut this confusing step out) -well if it says 'mount data' it means that you have to mount it - not that it already is. If the data is mounted it will actually read "unmount data". Like I said -very confusing to me - but it looks like this is a non-issue for the most part now.
also i would advise you of this - DO NOT USE a rom based on the brand new leak. That is just my advice. Lot's of people are - but there is no safety net there. There is no sbf for the new leaked stuff. Stick with roms based on 2.3.15 ota. again- just my .02. I guess a lot of people would advise you not to root and not to flash a rom at all - so in the end you got to do what you want.
I loved the Rubix series roms. I never used his "blurry" versions but did use 1.0, 1.6, 1.8.6 Focused. But found that I actually like roms that used the blur framework-res.apk because they just seem to work better. So I am using Apex 1.2 for 2.3.15 and really like it.
So- there is some more info for you.
I appreciate your help but once I use bootstrap...what/how do i do what I'm supposed to do

Sorry for all the questions, I just don't want to brick my phone cuz that's all my brother is talking about but once I get it down I feel like he might make me root his phone and load a new rom... so im just trying to cover all my bases

Ok- I am going to Private Message you my email so the communication process goes faster. But I am by no means an expert at android. I was really into Windows Mobile until the last couple of months but was fed up with what MS did with Phone7 -so I just made the jump to android.
To create your nandroid (your back up)...
1. Open Droid X Bootstrapper.
2. Click "Bootstrap Recovery".
3. Get the "Success" message. Click "OK".
4. Click "Reboot Recovery".
5. Your phone will reboot into recovery (not the factory recovery -a hacked recovery).
6. Use the volume rocker to move down to "-backup and restore".
7. Use the red camera button to hit enter.
8. A new screen will open and your cursor will already be on "Backup".
9. Use the camera button to hit enter.
10. Your phone starts the backup process (black screen with a small open box and a little android). It takes about 5 minutes to complete the backup.
11. When it is done you will get a "Backup complete!" at the bottom and will it will automatically go back to the first page and your cursor will be highlighting the "-reboot system now" option.
12. Press the red camera button to hit "enter".
13. Your phone will reboot.
14. You have created your nandroid
If you dont have the app "Root Explorer" you need to give up the couple of bucks or whatever it is and get it. I can try some free file explorer apps and see how they work for you -but Root Explorer is worth the $ and I will refer to it in instructions.
Flashing the rom... I will use an example for this rom...
http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-x-roms/100709-rom-apex-1-2-droid-x-functionality-performance.html
It is the rom I am using. It is stable and functional. It uses the ADW.Launcher as a home replacement for Blur.Home.apk -so if you are not familiar with it it takes some getting used to (a little complicated as far as all the settings). It also uses the AOSP text messaging which I do not like (but it can be changed back to Blur.
You can use whatever rom you want- but the instructions will not be exactly the same. Whatever rom you decide on -MAKE SURE YOU FOLLOW THEIR INSTRUCTIONS NOT MINE! Usually the first post of the rom thread will contain pretty clear instructions.
START WITH A FULL BATTERY!! I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY BLAH BLAH BLAH...
For example from the above thread...
-Place file on your sdcard. Bootstrap recovery and reboot recovery
-Navigate to mounts and storage. FORMAT data, and cache
-Return to previous menu and install .zip from sd card
-Choose ApeX and install!
Click to collapse
1. Download the rom.
2. If you use rom manager to download -you will have to find the rom which will be in a .zip file and it will be in some weird place in your phone's SDCard like
/sdcard/clockworkmod/download/fabdroid.com/downloads/
so you will have to move it to the root of your sdcard (meaning not inside any file folder -just on the sdcard.
3. So if you dont want to deal with that you can download from your computer and then place on your sdcard.
4. Open "Droid X Bootstrapper".
Click "Bootstrap Recovery".
5. Get the "Success" message. Click "OK".
6. Click "Reboot Recovery".
7. Your phone will reboot into recovery.
6. Use the volume rocker to move down to "-mounts and storage".
7. Use the red camera button to hit enter.
8. Use the volume rocker to move down to "-format data".
9. Hot enter.
(From here I am working on memory as I do not want to physically reflash the rom - so the instructions will not be quite as 100%)
10. You will get a "Are you sure?" message.
11. Go down to it and hit enter.
12. The phone will take a moment to format the data.
13. Use the same process to "-format cache".
14. Use the back button (the physical hardware back button) to return to the previous screen.
15. Go down to "-install zip from sdcard"
16. Hit enter.
17. Now all the files on the root of your sdcard will be listed. It is crucial that you placed the unzipped rom file on the root of your sdcard so that you can now choose it from the list. If there is no file to choose -you just completely screwed up and will have to perform the sbf. So hopefully you don't do that.
18. Use the volume button to select the Apex rom.
19. Hit enter (the camera button - I can't remember if you get a warning here - if you do - of course you want to confirm that you want to move on).
20. The new rom will load up.
21. If it does not automatically reboot then "-reboot system now".
The first boot up will take longer than usual. You will have to set up your phone all over again. If you have set up your phone properly then all your apps will download from the market automatically. If you have not set up your phone to do that than you will have to manually find your apps and download them.
Hopefully you are using Google to store your contacts and not Backup Asistant and the regular phone contacts. If you are using Google then your contacts should automatically be added back. If not then you are on your own bc I don't mess with Backup Assistant.
That is the best I can do with out physically flashing the rom and...
EVERY ROM HAS ITS OWN SPECIFIC INTRUCTIONS
You can use this as a guide but make sure you do what the rom developer says.
Here is the link for RSDLite 4.9...
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7782384/RSD%20Lite%204.9.rar
Thanks alot man I flashed zapx bazinga 1.6 on my phone with your help and some luck of mine.... I made a nandroid of my phone this morning cuz I got bored in class and decided to just go for it.... and then I dled the zip file and put it on my sd card... used astro to make sure it was there... only for it not to show up when I wanted to load the zip file... while sweating bullets I restored my phone... and then put the zip file in a folder I created and did it again but I made sure I could find it while in recovery before I proceeded...... phew
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
good for you man. If zapX doesn't work out for you - or if you want to try something different - I can recommend the Apex rom, it has been very stable. Just make sure you dl the correct version. There is a version for the leak and a version for stock 2.2.

[Q] APKs won't sideload via adb or a file manager

So I am trying to load a couple of apks I have and it's been no go. On my Epic I usually just dropbox, open, and install. I tried that and initially got the security message. That is already taken care of via nookcolor tools. So that isn't the issue. My issue is every time I go to install I go to Astro, open the file via the "open app manager," it takes me to the info install page...I click install and it loads into the package installer, excellent...and then it just stalls and the progress bar runs and runs but never progresses. This has happened with every apk I have now tried.
Okay...so I figured I'd just go the little more involved (very little, no need to be that lazy, right) route and adb install. Well carp. All goes well, I adb install blahblah.apk and it starts rolling..."570kb blah..etc pkg /blah/temp/blah"...and just hangs there...never to give me the gratifying "success" message. Again, I have tried this with different apks that I know work and the same results. I restored to stock and rerooted, just in case. Same
I am running stock rooted (manualnooter) at this point, just got the nook day before yesterday (one of the many who jumped at the refurbs). Market apps download fine. I'm a blue dot, if that makes any diff. Likely not but meh.
I have searched and googled and not found the answers...but I know I am missing something elementally simple. My luck I'll look like an idiot and it will be a "did you check to see if you had any gas?" broken down car scenario. I'm okay with that, as long as I'm running again. I'm pretty sure I checked all the out of gas scenarios but I likely missed one or two so... any help is much appreciated. Thanks a ton...
I should know better than trying to write before coffee
Well, My answer is not a "check gas" answer. It's pretty dang weird.
1. Download ES Explorer from the market.
2. Start ES Explorer, hit Menu>Settings. Goto Root Options (NEW) and tick both check boxes. Hit allow when it asks you to.
3. Go back twice, until you see your sd card contents. Find the APK on there and select and hold. Hit copy and then hit the 1st button on the row of buttons (it's an icon of an sd card OR a Home icon) If you see a data folder, go in to it. If not, hit the 1st button again.
3. Once in the data folder, go into the app folder. Pull up the little white tab on the bottom. Tap the APK you wanted to install. It will copy. Once you see the APK's icon in the folder, hit the home button and restart. That should have installed it but it is a slow method. Note that you can Multi-Select APK's by pressing the Multi-select button and pasting them all in the /data/app/ folder.
are you sure you have side loading checked
Settings > applications should be the top box.

I think he already took care of that. And he is on stock, so there is no Applications setting.
ikingblack, thank you, thank you!
Not sure why but by doing this it somehow unsnafued the package installer as well (fingers crossed). I went through your instructions with a known good apk that would not install for anything before. And there it was after the copy, paste reboot etc. Not too much to ask for...still was confused as to the why of the normal package installer method not working. So I decided to give it (package inst) a go with another known working apk (I had just tested it on my epic) that previously wouldn't install, repeatedly, and now it installed just like it should. Scratching my head in wonder. It shouldn't be the reboot, as I have do so many times...the only difference is the install instructions and adding ES (I'm leaving astro behind I think). All I know is it is working and I am a happy camper (tent is in the back yard...) Thanks again! cheers!
Sure. Also, you can select all the APK's using the 2-file icon at the top and tapping the APKs, then press-and hold on one of the APk's and then go to data app, and keep tapping the APK's you wanna copy. And then reboot. Enjoy your Nook!
Thanks for this, it fixed it, but I don't know why.
I suffered this issue on my dell streak.
It was working fine a couple of days ago when I installed GetJar.
Suddenly today for no reason I can determine:
All APK's I tried the install button in the package installer was not grayed out, but it would not respond when pressed.
I've just been setting up my streak again and installing a lot of software. I'm guessing something must of gone wrong.
Someone on another post suggested JuiceDefender may have caused it but I've not installed that recently.
In my case I did:
(1) Installed esFileExplorer
(2) Copied an apk to the folder /data/app/ as described above
(3) restarted the phone
This did not install the app for me.
(4) Tried running the apk file again. Suddenly the Install button is clickable again?! The app then installed just fine.
(5) Tried a different apk (without copying to /data/app/)
Now that will install fine?!
This is really weird. I can't replicate the issue now (which is good!)
but I also can't tell which action fixed it.
As said above it may have been installing esfileexplorer and giving it root access.
It may have been the act of copying the file that reset something.
It wasn't the reboot, at lease not on its own as i'd already tried it.
Regardless, thanks for the info.
If anyone sees this issue again you might want to just try installing esfileexplorer and see if apk's will then install.
This might help us identify which bit of the process is creating the fix.
Just found another suggestion if anyone is interested:
Some suggests using the 'Fix permissions' option of Titanium Backup. I have no way to test this.

I get force closes when I use the market to check my apps
can you wipe data for the market app using either titanium backup or the manage applications gui and then go into market again? let me know if that helps.

Also, are you running the new 3.0.27 that's been floating around the sites recently?
That version while running great on my phone, caused nothing but issues on my A500 - actually had to "uninstall updates" to get the market working right again (nothing would update, and some of the columns in the new design wouldn't lineup correctly) - I'd make sure you are still on the stock market for now.
uninstalled both markets and updates related to market using titanium,do i need to be unrooted.
still crashed....stupid thing

From the Acer recovery app you need to flash clockwork recovery. The app itself only allows you to manage which recovery you have loaded.
i have done a factory reset and still cant get market app to load, i assume my rom image is corrupt how the heck do i flash a new rom on this thing if i cant get into recovery mode

Yo can try this if still encountering FC/not dowloading apps for Playstore or market, it might also be the cause of new partition or something like that, you can try this another option freely other than fixing permission of vending.apk on /system/app/..
This might help you guys .
1. check if cache folder has "download" folder inside it, if it no download folder then create one inside /cache, e.g. mkdir /cache/download.
2. then chmod the /cache folder to 777, also make sure the com.android.vending folder is present inside /data/data/ folder.
3. You can achieve it through shell terminal.
Hope this helps you guys fix the FC(Force close or not downloading apps on playstore or market).
Hit thanks if it helps.
Thanks

[Q] Rooted CM7, no market Missing Apk(s)

Hi.
My nook color was on 1.4 (latest bn update), I dual boot it with cm7 following this set of instructions - youtube.com/watch?v=OxDEZ1Fc6iE
when started, the android guy didn't appear and it didn't ask to log in to my google account. in the menu, there's no market.
went to settings - manage applications - there's no google service framework nor market.
I then rooted it instead with cm7 again following - youtube.com/watch?v=lmmmm8cBpe0
same thing, no google service framework, no market.
I've dual booted, rooted, unrooted to 1.0, rooted, over and over again but no luck. I doubt there's something wrong with the files, is it not reading/installing it properly? I downloaded the files through the right links multiple times.
since then, I tried all sorts of ways to try to download the apps but nothing works as well. I also tried installing the files individually (google service framework, onetimeinitializer, setupwizard, talk, vending) but it keeps saying "Application not installed."
Once I did manage to download market, but when I open it, it just gets out and crashes.
Is there another way to root it with a sure way of having market on it? or what am I doing wrong?
Please help. ): I'm not an expert with all these things so if you could explain it in simple terms.
So are you running from an SD card? Did you download gapps.zip and put it on the boot partition?
Sent from space
yes, I rooted from an sdcard. I followed the exact instructions on the video - (youtube.com/watch?v=lmmmm8cBpe0) Is something missing? Am I suppose to partition the sd? By my understanding, partition is something like splitting the memory on the sd? is it?
Sorry, I'm a real beginner on this.
Well the video you followed on Failtube has you installing to your internal memory. Did you flash the google apps zip while in clockwork?

My connection is horrible for video right now so please forgive me for not watching the video... did you include the latest GApps.zip and install that too?
Put the latest GApps*.zip on a sd card and install using ROM Manager.

yup I tried doing that too. the files still didn't appear.
Okay, I managed to install CM7 and market! I followed eyeballer's guide at forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1030227&fb_source=message through Koopakid08's link on his/her signature.
There was market on it and it opens. but doesn't start dowloads. I did the usual of delete the caches, reboot and now, it downloads fine.
I then overclocked it with www.youtube.com/watch?v=8mvwmx9qSZY guidance. not much of a guide but i managed to find the files and installed. but it overclocked to 1.1ghz, not 1.3. I don't really mind, but just wondering what I did wrong.. I'm thinking of trying it again but using the latest phiremod 7.1. I used the old 6.1 yesterday instead because I wasn't very sure.
So, now my question would be do I have to revert it back to cm7 then overclock it again? or can I just do it over what I've already done? or must I start from scratch, unroot, root to cm7 then overclock?

You can just install it as an update using ROM Manager and not lose any data. Just make sure the only boxes checked when you update are wipe dalvik cache and backup.

I was about to update it, but now, my google account keeps saying my password is wrong, and I can't sign in. What can I do now? I tried updating the rom from rom manager but it says there's no updates available.
if I were to do it through recovery, I need to burn the clockwork on the sd, put the files in, and just install zip? or do i need to format system and data first?

Go to download a rom to choose the rom you want.
You should install clockwork to your internal memory using rom manager and then you won't have to fool around with SD cards. If you want to update manualy through recovery then you need to wipe dalvik cache and then use the install a zip option. To boot into recovery hold volume up on boot.

I went - Rom manager - Download ROM - Error occured while processing the ROM list/Error occured while Developing Download list
How do I continue? ):
If I do update it manually through recovery, I need to install the phiremod v7.1, do I need to install gapps_phiremod_7.1 as well? the instructions are gone since phiredrop deleted his website. I can't find any other instructions for updating from 6.1 to 7.1
I still can't sign into my google account, keeps saying my password is incorrect. Any way to fix this?
"install clockwork to your internal memory using rom manager and then you won't have to fool around with SD cards."
so thats how it works. hahaha, that'll be great and less of a hassle for me. I've been repeating the burn clockwork, install, flash all sorts of roms too many times.

1. Try pressing menu- clear download cache and see if that changes anything.
2. Yes you should flash gapps again seeing how you are having problems with your google account.
3. I've never used phiremod so I am not sure if that is a problem. I would suggest that you go with just virgin CM7.1 but I'm sure phiremod will be fine too.

Okay, after all the trial and errors, my nook color is finally up and running awesomely on cm7,phiremod 7.1 at 1.2ghz.
Went to rom manager - download rom - phiremod - v7.1 - reboot after that, I had to do gapps again because some files like market wasn't in the menu, but on the homepage. rom manager - download rom - phiremod - gapps - reboot.
so everything is working well so far.
thanks to all the help I received, especially koopakid08!
If you want to easily overclock your nook to the Max, along with adjusting voltage to handle it and adjusting speaker gain and other stuff, look up Nook Tweaks (icon is a nook outline with gears inside). The process is very simple, just make sure you install it to the device not SD (I made that mistake), because otherwise it won't set the CPU speed and voltage settings on boot (even with the boxes checked). I am able to get my nook running smoothly at 1300MHz, but the option goes up to 1600. So wherever your nook's Max is can be found with this app. No need to readjust your kernel, just install the app and go. If you want to make sure that it is working on boot, download autostarts, which shows what starts during boot.

True but you will not gain any performance by going over 1.2, only worse battery life and the chance of overheating.
Sent from space
Well I certainly don't think I know any better than anyone else, its just that I recorded a pretty decent increase from 1.2 to 1.3 when I ran a benchmark using Quadrant Standard. That's the only basis I currently have, but I figured since Quadrant Standard got good reviews that it was creditable... do you know of a better benchmark?

Oh, sounds great but I think I'll keep it at 1.3 rather than 1.6, I don't want it to overheat it or something. I've already downloaded the app and tried to change it to 1.3, but what is the CPU stepping 1,2,3,4,5? I changed it to 800, 900, 1000, 1200 and 1300. Is that okay?

CM9.... What did I do???

I have a question for some of you. I had been doing some research on CM9 for NC. I found a download, ( Though not on this site) along with some additional help from this website.
I installed everything to my NC and low and behold, it all works!! It looks just like my Toshiba Thrive tablet, except it's showing that its running Android 4.0 version.
Now for the drawbacks.... it has NO sound, NO Market, etc... Is there any way to install those? Or has this been the problem all along??
Thanks!
What links you got the CM9 from?
I got CM9 running with sound and market is working just fine.
I knew better than to trust another site, but ... I went to androidfamily.net. It had a "how to" to install CM9 ...
Could you give me downloads you used?
Thanks alot!!!
Check out the Samiam nightly builds in the development forum.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1444943
You basically need to flash three files that are available from there. Latest nightly main CM9 ROM, Google Apps (Gapps) and the telephony-permissions fix.
That will give you market, working sound and best CM9 for Nook at the moment.

I see the Gapps file, and the telephony-permissions fix file, but where is the CM9 main file you mentioned? Am I overlooking it?
I tried again, using the same CM9 file, and then installed the Gapps file you mentioned along with the telephony permissions fix. Still no market. Everything else worked fine!

So do I just download the link that has today's date by it?? That's what I did, and no market. I went back re-read everything, and then downloaded everything all over again, and again... No Market. Everything else is working fine.
Are you connected to wifi? When loading a new rom, sometimes the market doesn't show up until hooked up to wife.
If this doesn't solve your problem, then I would start from scratch. Can you boot into CM recovery? If so, go into mounts and storage and format data, system and cache. Back into main screen and factory reset and wipe cache partition. (so many debates on if this is all totally necessary, but I have had glitches with installs when I have not done every one of these steps in this order).
Install CM9 (I do recommend samiam's build. It works flawlessly on my nook.)
Choose reboot option in recovery. Connect to a wireless network.
Samiam has included Rom Manager in his build. I use this to boot into recovery. Install Sam's gapps, telephony fix and boot animation fix. Reboot.
Hope this helps. Post if you need more detailed instructions.
I don't think you are flashing the right ones or are missing one of the 3. There is a patch that fixes market, boot animation and SOD issues. In unofficial cm9 forum.

I am getting a little confused. When I clicked on the CM9 build....it shows parent directory and then all the nightlies. Which one do I use? I also tried to just wipe it and reinstall CM7... I did manage to get the market running the CM7. So, I think I must have just downloaded the wrong nightly??

You can click on the latest one (Jan. 28.) and download. I always check the end of samiam's thread to see if there are any hiccups on the latest builds. I am running Jan.26 build (haven't updated yet) and it is running beautifully for me.

I have tried everything! and still no market! I believe I'm doing everything correctly, because I downloaded CM7 again, and had the market.
Is there anyone out there with the same type problem that corrected it?
Thanks!
From Recovery you want to format cache and system (under mounts). Also format data unless you already have a good working set up and you want to preserve all your settings, apps etc.
Then you should be flashing 3 zips in this order
update-encore-2012xxxx.zip where xxxx is the latest
gapps-ics-4.0.3-sam-noinit.zip from the misc folder
telephony-permission-fix.zip from the misc folder
The gapps zip in particular has the google apps including the market. Note that if you are comparing with the CM7 MiRaGe ROM then that has the gapps in including the market already in whereas with CM9 you have to flash them in separately.
If you have formatted data then when you reboot it should take you straight into a setup where you set up wifi, then sign in to your google account. The market app then should work OK.

Went to CWM and did the above ..went to mounts and storage..format cache and system, and data. After I did this, I hit the power button, once to go back to the screen to install the zips. Now, when I hit that power button, the following message came up 4 times... E: can't mount/cache/recovery.log. Could this have something to do with it??
I tried your instructions again, and No Market. You said that it would take me to a screen to set up wi fi ..but it doesn't. My screen is black, with a clock, a picture of a camera, and box that says gallery.
I am just going to have to go back to CM7!
I think I finally thought it out. For whatever reason when I put the gapp file in my NC it shows installing..but I don't think it worked. CM7...No problems! Have installed twice today and both times had the Market.
CM9... runs great...but no market!
Strange. The only thing that I can think of at the moment is that you have a bad download of the gapps file.
If you haven't tried it before then I'd suggest downloading it again. You should then just be able to flash that one on its own.
---------- Post added at 05:39 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:34 PM ----------
As a double check the zip should be 16,874,937 and you should be able to open it on PC and see the apps files in the system/app folder with vending.apk

I checked, and BTW I'm using gapps-ics-4.0.3 -sam noinit ......my download is 18,275 KB ? and when I clicked on it to check the apps files as you suggested this is what it showed... 3 folder icons with MACOSX, META-INF, system. And then directly underneath the folders were 3 other things with the same words as the top 3 ... NO vending.apk ?? I clicked on the one that had system, and all the apps are there. I just don't know what I'm doing wrong.
Would you tell me which gapp file your using?
Thanks for helping me!!!
I go the Gapps I use from the link
http://sphsolutions.net/android/Encore/Nightlies/Misc/
However, it looks like I got a slightly earlier one (probably 1 day before). I retrieved the current one to compare them. The later one has the YouTube app in which explains the difference in size. All the Google apps are exactly the same as in the one I use and the Vending app is there as well under system/app
If you can't see that folder then there is something wrong with your zip download.
The other difference from the earlier one I had is that it looks like the later one had been put together on a Mac system as it has the extra __MACOSX folder and a few .DS_Store folders which are not really part of the required zip but should be harmless.
Just to check I just tried installing with the latest nightly 20120128 and the later gapps version and I got the market OK.
So two thoughts: either your download is still bad or maybe you have signature verification turned on in your clockwork and that is causing this gapps install to fail whereas the main ROM is passing and also the gapps when you do CM7. I have signature verification disabled (which I think is the default). Try toggling the signature verification menu item and get it set to disabled.
What and where is the signature verification? And..... how do I get there?
