Hey guys,
Was using my Vega fine the other day...
Was using the new shuttle tool to read from a usb stick and all was working fine. Gone to use it today and it says the SD card is damaged and can't read it?
Have i done some thing wrong?
Its telling me to format it but i dont want to do this as it has ALL my apps and everything else are on it!
Can you connect your SD on a computer?
Then you could try and backup your data, format it and restore data back onto your SD.
Will give it a go!
Nope, it is still showing as corrupt!
So means I need start all over again right? What could have caused this then?
Do people take a nanodroid back up and save to a PC for just this occasion?
Ok, have got the vega ok again however all the Apps that were stored on the SD card are naturally not working, says that they are not installed... so going to the market on the vega I can see about 10 that are not installed.. have installed these and all are fine. I go to the market on the PC and can log in fine, go to my apps and can see all the apps that are on the vega, however if i now to go to install them again it says i have no device linked to this account? How? I have not changed any thing? Any ideas?

I have also made my SD card corrupt in my SGS.
Corruption on SD card occurs if your phone crashes and you take the battery out (abnormal shutdowns).
But don't know how the Vega could get SD card corruption, you can't take the battery out and as it seems you're the only case here.
Maybe your microSD card was already corrupt when you bought it.
And you first noticed corruption when you wrote to that bad sector on your SD card.
It could have also slowly degraded and more and more corruption could occur.
hi,
i've similar issue, but once i reseat the sdcard it's fine again.
i also notice if i insert a mobile stick it shows sdcard requires format - damage...
maybe it's the format of the sdcard?

If you actually have corruption on your SD then I would suggest you try to test it more extensively.
Calculate how much free space do you have on your SD card and then find data with same size on another computer (actually it must be few MB less than free space on your SD) and make an MD5 hash from those files (create MD5 file with hashes and filenames).
Insert the SD card into your computer or connect it thru your phone/tablet.
Copy those files from your computer onto your SD card to fill it up as much as possible.
Restart your computer and phone/tablet.
Then copy those files back from your SD card onto your computer and verify the MD5 file against the copied files.
It's a strong possibility that you would then notice CRC missmatches.
If not then your SD card is really safe.
My phone says that the SD card is OK, but some files there don't copy back at its full length, therefore become corrupted.

In short MD5 is a short hashed value that is uniqe for each content/file (if file content is the same). With that MD5 value you can check content/file integrity (that some content hasn't become corrupted in a transfer process).
If you're using windows I really can't help you much there, because I use Linux.
I think this one works OK (you can also make SFV, MD5 is not really needed):
http://www.quicksfv.org/download.html
If it doesn't work for you, you can find some more if you go to:
http://www.download.com
and search for "md5" there.
Microsoft has also an app for checking file integrity.
Or you can google for "md5sum" for more info (google knows everything).
are you running a custom rom or stock rom? The reason I ask is because I have had errors on nearly all the Modaco roms I have tested and the solution was to use moddedstockv2 and upgrade to vegacomb9 (I know it seems extreme but it is a much more stable rom than the modaco roms in my experience)
Loui - I on th latest Vegacomb
Yani - cheers for your help mate.
Ah well it may well be just a hardware problem then (I'm sorry I know that is not much help to you) perhaps you could tell us how lod the stick is or if you have been copying lots of files to and from it.
The reason I ask is because all things have limits and expiry dates even if they are not shouted about on the packet; Maybe the stick has reached one of these limits. If not then you could probably get a refund from the store you bought it from or a replacement from the vendor (as I recently got for western digital hard-drive that had SMART failure)
Also is it working okay now or have you had issues since the corruption?
The card is only about 3 weeks old, has not had much use if honest. Seems to be working ok now although since the market issues I have not been using it any where near as much as before so I cant give an accurate answer.
I think it may have been me messing around with the host mode or some thing as it did say i had removd a card that was mounted... i hadnt, i had just turned some thing off... so it could well be that which caused it!
Thanks for the info though mate, might see if can get a refund!
Hi, I had the same issue, I had tried to move an app from tablet to SD card I then got the same error message about the SD card needed too be formated. Check your card in your PC, it will most likely be OK. I then reinstalled vegacomb 3.2 update 3. Make sure you wipe cache, factory reset and wipe Delvic then reinstal.
That will fix the issue, the chances of your micro SD card becoming unstable after 3 weeks are slim.
Res
I often have this problem but after a restart it works again.

I am having some trouble with my 4gb card in my XV6800. I have had it since January and been happily adding things to it and deleting them at will. Now I am having a problem with it however. I can add things to it through My Computer etc on windows and it shows up fine. But after a few hours when I go back into it on File Explorer on the phone any changes I have made are not in effect.
This includes both things that I added that are not there, and things that I have deleted that re-appear. Any ideas? It is not helping my wanting to install cabs and set up my UC config as you can imagine.
I know that they are transferring at some point because I m,anaged to install a cab from there last night, this morning, the original cab and folder is gone.
I'd suggest backing up everything currently on the card first, then formatting it using a card reader. Once the format completes, restore your files and see if your problems still exist.
P.S. Any microsd card <= 2gb will work for flashing. Anything > 2gb won't.

I agree with this... backup your storage card, and format it using software on your device such as CNETX FlashFormat... that seemed to do the trick when I was having issues related to the Storage Card
I was getting the error" file protected". I did lots of research, tried to format it in both my phone and laptop to no avail. I used diffrent software, nothing gave. Some people claim that putting clear tape on the SD adapter lock did the trick for them. Anyway, I contacted SD as my last resort, got an RMA and now I am awaiting a replacement. I did a back up and transferred all to 1 GB that I had as a back up.
FYI
I used SD Formatter V2.O and Hard disk Wipe tool (hddguru.com) , Format claimed to be successful but data was always there. This started after I installed TOMTOM maps on the card. Good luck man
there is a cab to enable sd cards over 2GB for the titan
i suggest some searching, if i come across it ill post the link
I have Tom Tom on my card, but then I have done from the start and I have only had the problems pretty recently. My computer wont read the card in the built in card reader in my computer, but it reads the new 1gb one fine.
Also, the phone does recognize it because I can play music off it, I just cannot add files to it or delete from it.
I have tried to format it with CNETX FlashFormat and it doesn't seem to work, everything is still on there as before.
Very annoying, I am going to contact SanDisk
Good idea man, it sounds like you have the same prob I do. Try putting tape on the protection switch on the adapter. It didn't work for me but who knows!
I have just got a 16gb sd card which is recognised by my HD2 but copying my files straight to the card from both the pc and via pc cable meant that I have several issues with programs installed, such as jwmd icon changer, my icons all return back to the old ones...
I have formatted the sd card several times...
as soon as I replace the sd card and soft reset it works fine... just not with the 16gb card.
any suggestions?
Thanks
I have searched and tried the suggestions on a couple of the threads...

When you copy the files from the 8gb card, select on your pc to show all files (enable hidden files) from the maps that are in the 8gb card.
Thanks for the advice, unfortunately I had already done that....
I'm wondering if the card is faulty...
I am currently in the middle of a full format rather than a quick format...

Maybe you can test your card with H2testw to see if it's faulty.
I'll try that, thanks
The full format didnt make any difference........
to test the 16gb sandisk I got from a foreign seller on ebay, I used dd under linux, wrote several 4GB size files filled with zeroes, until it was full, and then copied them back to the HD.
Write and read operations went fine, so I suppose the card works alright, and is really a 16GB card (14.83GB really on it due to difference between GB and GiB), and I tested it for max 7.5MB/s write speed, and 7MB/s read speed.
So you could do the same write/read tests to see if all the data put on the card is really there, or if it's a fake/damaged 16GB card
Make Sure to also uncheck 'Hide Protected operationg system files' before copying
Er, I may be missing something here, but, all previously installed app associations will be unusable when you change mem card and you will need to reinstall everything.
My advice would be to install everything you can to phone mem and it will run more quickly and be more stable into the bargain, use less battery and run cooler!

well... no problem here, I've switched from 8 to 16gb sd on my previous ipaq, simply mirrored the file structure, and all the .lnk files in the menu worked alright.... I do not really see the reason why those shortcuts shouldn't work anymore.

how did you do it? I tried the snap shot idea... no luck.....
I just had a look at the copied folders on the 16gb sd card via my pc, at the top level they seem ok, but once I look into each folder they all have crazy symbols instead of folder names.... this is obviously the problem... but what is causing it?
They are all normal on the original 8gb
Juat to add that they are ok on the 16gb card also until i put them into the hd2....

test the files.
It may be possible that the card is a fake 16gb or defective.
Copy 15gb to it from PC (prferably movies), then copy them back to hard disk on another folder. See if you can still watch all 15gb of movies. If you get errors, card is defective/fake.
There's no reason why a snapshot shouldn't work otherwise.

It's not a matter that they shouldn't work. It's that they often don't.
Some will have no problem and some will. Especially when attempting usage after a flash of ROM or any alteration of registry (dirrectly or indirrectly).
The OS knows the location of associated files and when a straight copy of files is made from one card to another there can be no certainty that the integrity of the file system will be maintained.
You wouldn't rely on your PC to acknowledge a new second Hard drive in exactly the same way as an older one was just by copying the files. There's fat and boot sector implications.
I'm currently testing the sd card with a program called h2testw which writes data to the card to test the capacity etc to see if its been hacked to show a fake capacity... its going to take 90 mins...so fingers crossed its not fake....

ehm, I'm sorry, but that doesn't make much sense
We are talking about file paths here, and nothing more; as long as the memory card is still named "Storage Card" in the device, you just need to copy the file structure over, everything will work. Or maybe everything except those registered programs that check the idenitification number of the memory card to see if they are installed on the correct media.
And in fact, if you mirror your hard drive to another, bigger one, you will have a copy of your previous system...
If you experienced something different, please make an example. Did you mirror the file structure from an old microsd to a new microsd and the system didn't work?
The other user here was having a problem with the file structure being corrupted, that makes sense, but just that...
This was the result.... can anyone tell me what this actually means?...

I need a little assistace please.

What would be the safest way to trasfer everything as it is to new 32gB card.
use somenthing like norton ghost? i thing just copy and paste wont work, and i would like to avoid that.
Thanx for any helpful advice.
Personally, I would use copy & paste. Either connect your device as a USB drive, or use a card reader. Copy everything from the root of the card to a folder on your PC, then swap the cards and copy everything back. It should just work - nice and simple.

i got an error in few seconds...
some file reported an error, and copy process stopped...
it would be easy, i know, but i just does not work...there are (i guess) some 10000 files on that card, and chances are some are garbled.
so i would avoid filesystem alltogether and try to clone, and if that does not work, then c/p folder by folder if it does not go other way.
I connected my HD2 as a drive, copied the entire 16GB card to a folder on my PC, formatted the new card, copied everything back, absolutely perfect.
Yep, disk drive mode, or just put the card in a USB card reader. I just did that for 8-> 16GB swap. There's no "better" solution.

No, the errors are probably due to the fact that your HD2 was running apps that are located on the SD and are 'locked' that way. So they will not be copied...
Just take the SD-card out, put it in a card reader of some sort and just copy & paste everything to a hard disk, and copy it to your new SD card. Should work 100%.

I've formatted and scanned for errors and still the same thing happens.

Yep. I had the exact same thing with a "8GB" memory stick, that turned out to actually be 1GB.
according to my knowledge, u can't copy like that, u need to hardreset your device and then using new microsd.

or check with flash memory toolkit, it will show the information of ur micro sd

Definitely not mate - you must have had a problem with something if you needed to hard reset to swap SD cards. One of the selling points of most up-to-date devices is "hot-swapping". Did you maybe have encryption switched on?

Since noone is replying to my post in LeeDroids thread I gotta post it here.
After I flashed the device with the latest leedroid-ROM I can't mount the sdcard. I googled and was looking for a answer all day long but didn't find anything for the DHD.
No problems with other sdcards tho. So it only can be the ROM. :/
Hope you can help me.
Anyone? Come on, give me some advice!
I have the same Problem. I think it´s a Problem with the SD Card. I replaced the stock 8GB Card with a 16GB Traxdata Card. Since that i have this problem.
A Workaround is to install CWM again with the ROM Manager. This works for me.
A few things you can try but no guarantees.
1. Defrag your card and do an error check via pc. U may want to copy your data out first just in case.
2. Copy all your data out using a memory card reader. Try formatting the card by the phone. If not by pc. Copy back your data.

Don't defrag solid state memory! This only serves to wear it down quicker. Solid state devices can access all parts of the memory at the same speed, so defragmenting won't do anything, only reduce its lifetime.

Does a backup save the sdcard-files aswell?

Hello all,
I have been using Galaxy note 3 for the last 3 years or so, have rooted it, installed AOSP and stock ROMs (including the latest Note 7 ports) on it. So I have a fair understanding of how the phone works, and am able to work with errors on a very comfortable basis (sometimes, with help from other XDA members as well).
Now, here's where I am stuck. I was running a Note 7 port ROMs (Phronesis and Magma-NX), and also ran an AOSP ROM. Since last week, my phone has not been able to recognize my SD Card (I have two cards: one, a 32gb card, and the other a 128gb card) on either of the stock or AOSP ROMs. It says: Corrupted. So I begin to format the card (both of them) on the phone itself, and I keep getting this message when I try to format my SD Card via phone:
thread binder_7 gave up waiting for partitionPublic after 180000ms
The SD Cards format properly on my laptop. The end result is my phone doesn't recognize any memory cards, and I basically end up working with the internal storage of 32gb. I havent encountered this error before, and I have no clue about what to do. I have tried googling it, and Google gives me a result for partitionPrivate and not partitionPublic. I dont know if these are the same things or not, and in either case, I absolutely dont know
what to do.
Can anyone suggest/guide as to what should I do?
I had an issue where my phone wouldn't see an SD card unless it was given a name when attached to a PC, might be nothing to do with it but could be worth a try?

Yes, I use Google Photo app for my pictures and videos, Spotify 4 music, large files like Twrp and Titanium backups stored on external hard drive.

I guess that is probably working good for you; do you have your photos and videos setup to be directly posted on the Cloud then?
Definitely, you have various options how to upload directly, with mobile plans, only with WiFi, only on charge.
Awesome, thanks buddy.. Did you try to have someone look up the SD Card slot to see if it was damaged or if it needed a replacement?

Hello all,
I have been using Galaxy note 3 for the last 3 years or so, have rooted it, installed AOSP and stock ROMs (including the latest Note 7 ports) on it.

Just to check, have you tried to convert your sd cards into internal storage (adoptable storage) before the problem occurs ?
@zlazaar I'm not sure bro.. All I did was just copied one app from my internal memory to the external SD Card. But I didn't jot try to convert Tele external SD into an internal memory.. Do you think that's what the issue is here?

Can you try this please :
- Format one of your sd cards using your PC (use this recommended tool)
- Make sure you choose FAT32 as file system before format
- Check if you got the correct total size of the formatted sd card
- Shutdown your phone, put your sdcard, boot directly to recovery
if the recovery is able to recognize the sd card with the correct total size, then you don't have a hardware failure.

Sorry buddy, but didn't quite understand when you said" given it a name". How and what did you do to name your SD Card? I will definitely try anything to make it work

When you connect it to a PC, when viewing My Computer as it used to be called, you can see all of the drives, C:, D: etc, on that screen if you right click above your SD card drive select rename, it should be under removable drives. A long shot but also an easy one so worth a punt.

I totally agree, sd card volume must have a name.
Thank you

@zlazaar Hey buddy, so I downloaded the SD Formatter, and did a quick format (should I have done full Format - if yes, which one - Erase or overwrite). I also tried the Format Size Adjustment ON and OFF.
I have 2 SD Cards, one 128gb and the other a 32gb. The SD Formatter formatted the 128gb card as an exFAT, and the it formatted the 32gb card as a FAT32. However, TWRP still didn't recognize either of the cards. I still dont have the cards running on the phone..
