I have the zte blade, but the power key has an issue where it often doesn't respond to pressing and constantly locks and unlocks for no reason!
Is it possible to disable this button and assign the volume up key to do locking and unlocking, or just disable and use the menu key and a lock widget.
It might be possible to remap it for locking & unlocking your phone.
I'd suggest cleaning the power button carefully using a little bit of electronics contact cleaner, then it should be as good as new.

You could use Intelligent Keylock Unlocker from the market.

Hi peeps !
Searched all over the forum, but couldn't find the answer.
Is there a way to assign a function to the Power On/Off button other than to turn the Athena on / off ?
I typically, for instance, would like to bind the "DisplaySwitch" psShutXP shortcut to the Power Button so that when i press it, it doesn't turn the Athena off but only the screen.
Additionnaly, if one knows how to assign a sequence of actions to the Power Button (like "locking the device + switching screen on / off"), that'd be great.
Thanks guys !
Turning off only the screen is the default action for the power button...
There is an app that many on here use (I can't think of the name) which lets you reassign most of the buttons on the Athena, including the OK and Windows button, to many different functions. You can also hack the registry to reassign the camera/comm/browser buttons if the standard reassignments that Windows Mobile gives you aren't enough - but really odd things like locking + screen off may require you to also write your own small app first.
Hi there, thank you for your answer.
Actually, the Power button must do something more than just flicking the screen off, like scaling the CPU down, spinning out the microdrive, flushing a bunch of buffers, etc.
I'm asking because of a problem I posted about in the forum (here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=353456), about my Athena being strangely slow, and its CPU being 80% used by nothing that I can see or find, when I wake it up using the Power button.
I'm trying to see if I can circumvent the problem if I can't manage to find its source and solve it, in fact.
I used AEButtons Plus, which works pretty well with ALL buttons but the Power one, and I couldn't find a reference to it in the registry either.
Thanks for your time !
Yup, that's the app I was thinking of. I don't use it so I couldn't think of the name. Sorry to hear of your slowdown problems, I've been monitoring that thread. I agree that it sounds like a hardware problem at this point.
You need DevieLock.cab. It can be set to switch off the screen and lock the device. It can by mapped to any button but Power on/off though.
Thanks man, gonna look it up right away !
For the life of me I can't find the device lock in settings, you know the one that gives you the option to lock all buttons except power button on device lock.
I would like to be able to turn the machine on by pressing something other than the power button but it seems it cannot be done.
Am I missing something?

I have managed to use the HTC lock but don't know how i did it. I do think that a good lock would be a plus for this phone.

What do you mean by 'HTC lock'? Where did you find this on the HD? I'm looking for the setting where you specify whether you want to lock all buttons or not?
In Settings > Buttons, go to the End Key tab and select the action you want when holding the End key. You can mae it pop up a menu if you want...
One of the options is Lock device.

hmm, yes, i found this but that is to lock the device using the long press end key.
What I am looking for is the setting where (at least on the diamond) you specify that the device locks all the buttons a) all the time b) none of the time or c) only when device is locked. i'm sure it was called button lock or similar.
That´s my problem, too. I would like to power on my HTC by using the volume buttons because the "power on" button is so small. Too small for my fingers
This = power on the HTC by using the volume button = is a possible option on the HTC Kaiser und Diamond.
Another question: Does a registry key for the button lock exist?
Thanks in advance

Hi there
I expreienced kinda the same ... i have a workaround for it which I like a lot more.
- I installed AE Button Pro
- defined the action press two times right button as start S2U2 (Slide2Unlock)
It worked fine for me.
ciao!
If you have Montecristoff's HD Tweak installed you can set the phone to autolock, which will lock the phone everytime you turn the screen off in the same way as it would if you held the right button down for a few seconds.
I agree with the earlier post - AEB Plus is an excellent option and has a power off option.
Find it here: http://ae.inc.ru - the unregistered version has almost all the functions available.
Is it possible to configure the HD2 to only wake on one of the hard buttons. Eg the on off button instead of all the buttons.
Might help with phantom calls.

Think there's a registry setting somewhere that changes WM to only wake on the "power" key. Google XDA for it... "wake on all keys" or something similar.
maybe HTC design this function can avoid the power button failure like iPhone's home button.
Guys,
Just taken delivery of my first Android handset - nice to be back on here, spent years on here when I ran WM! Anyway, I've been looking for and haven't found an app that'll let me wake the phone by pressing any button, rather than just the power button. Seen stuff for WM, but not Android.
Can anyone help?

to be honest having used the htc hero I was always getting frustrated cause everytime I took out the phone from my pocket I found it had unlocked cause the minute you pressed any of the home search , menu buttons the phone would unlock and it could then even make unwanted phone calls but as for the desire it only wakes when u press the power button which I think is great just my own opinion.
Try this one on the market :
http://apps.doubletwist.com/No-Lock/-2216879159323801559
When you'll hit any key, no more "slide to unlock", phoen wake up direct to home screen
Having used the HD2 I too miss this feature. Not necessarily pressing a key to unlock the device, but simply to bring up the 'drag down to unlock' screen.

Here is this one also - http://apps.doubletwist.com/Screen-ON-widget/6251491150679267019
These 2 apps replace the need to "slide-to-unlock", but wouldn't you still have to press down the "power" button to actually turn on the screen?
I too have found this a little annoying. I think this may be a feature that can be changed once rooting of the phone starts.
Sort of like re-mapping the hardware buttons to where all you have to do is hit the trackpad or MENU button to activate the screen.
Application like this?
http://apps.doubletwist.com/HeroKey-(root)/1990841848356448722
No this would be interesting to possibly get for the Desire. Allows you to remap the hardware buttons. Too bad it is -
1 - For the Hero
2 - Requires root
After pressing the power key, mine unlocks by pressing just the menu button as well, FWIW.
Sent from my HTC Desire using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
For now i've installed MyLock. It removes the lockscreen completely. Now i just press power once.

that's a bonus, thanks.
what would be even nicer would be if the screen woke up (to lockscreen is fine) on a press of any hardware button. guess it'll need root.
just figured out how i am using 2 programs one is nolock and seccond is Widget Locker. nolock wakes up the phone with any key and by default unlocks the phone BUT if you have Widget Locker installed it prevents from unlocking so that way you have your phone with any-button wake and still locked, tested with my LG 2x ,first app is lightweight and dont consume much battery.. i dont know if i made my self clear im italian email me if you want the link or any question
