SU force close - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My superuser updated tonight and now it force closes whenever a program asks for access....the Su fix from the market didn't work....root checker is telling me I don't have root access I'm running the latest version of VU any idea guys?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App

I remember reading something about the new SU update doing this.. i think u have to be fortunate enough to have a previous version backed up from an app like Titanium Backup PRO, for this reason, i keep a seperate SD card where i keep all my Titanium Backups on because you never know what will happen in one release, and cause im addicted to rom flashing/tweaking
I guess just wait for it to get fixed, shouldn't b that long I'd imagine.

Fortunately I do use titanium backup free and nandroid....I did check the bootloader it appears I'm still rooted even though root checker failed to verify...guess I will wait and see if they fix it if not guess ill go to my backup

Try to clear data from superuser (Settings->Application).

@rednoseday this did work kind of...SU will grant the first program permission without a hitch anything after that force closes SU when trying to grant permission....now I am able to open SU itself without a FC now too....I even tried uninstalling the SU update to its original state but still FC anyways....I must say after what u suggested it works better then what it did let's hope for an update soon

Go to the VU thread. There is a fix for this. Works perfectly fine now on my MT4G.
Sent from my GT-I9000 running MIUIusing XDA App

real easy fix... Settings>Manage Apps>Super User> Uninstall Updates>Clear Cache and Data>Reboot.
Also make sure you have "Automatically Update" unchecked in Market so it doesn't just re-download update upon re-boot.
EDIT: has been a known issue since the App Dev's last update on 05 OCT 11

Thanks for the heads up works now

Swype issue after Gingerbread 2.3.3 OTA Update.

Hi there,
after the Gingerbread OTA update from DHD many users have a problem with Swype. Immediately after opening a text box Swype is force closing.
Does anyone here know of a solution or how to install a different keyboard and using it (to enter a password after update)?

ClockworkMod Recovery 5.0.2.0

I haven't seen anything about the updated ClockworkMod Recovery here on XDA, and I'm not sure if many others know about it. =P
Update: ClockworkMod Recovery for the Droid X has been updated to 5.0.2.0. A new blue recovery!
WARNING: This can be used on both 2nd init and blur roms; however, on blur roms you must first use Droid 2 Bootstrapper to bootstrap.
EDIT: Make sure that you're ROM Manager is up-to-date. A new version was just released that fixes bugs with flashing the new recovery.
Open ROM Manager and select 'Flash ClockworkMod Recovery'.
When it asks you to confirm your device select 'Droid X (2nd init)' or 'Droid X', respective to your current rom.
It should then download and install ClockworkMod Recovery 5.0.2.0.
Reboot hy holding the power button and selecting Reboot > recovery, or rebooting to recovery from ROM Manager. Enjoy your new blue recovery ^_^
EDIT: In MIUI on the Defy base you must use `CWM Recovery' from the reboot menu to access ClockworkMod Recovery.

Strange...I did those steps and I'm still getting v2.5.0.8
Try seeing if an update is available for ROM Manager. If it is, install the update and try again.

Found the update.zip files however how do I flash it with ROM Manager? I've used it maybe a handful of times and that was only when I first started playing with ROMs late last year. I haven't used it since then...always done everything with CWM.

No, I mean check the Marketplace to see if an update for ROM Manager is available. It was updated this morning to further support CM7 on the Droid X.

Oh weird...it didn't show up in my Market list as needing an upgrade but was available. No luck though Gonna try removing ROM Manager entirely with TB, rebooting & reinstalling ROM Manager to see if that fixes it.

Thank you Captain Obvious j/k
I get kind of tired of hearing my wife say "what are you doing to your phone now?" if I reinstall a ROM too much in one week LOL
Yea still no luck
Did the following (based on a suggestion in the Rootzwiki forum):
- Fully removed RM & the Premium license files
- rebooted
- reinstalled RM & Premium license
- Cleared Download cache in RM
- re-installed CWM 2.5.0.8 (chose Droid X)
- Cleared Download Cache
- updated CWM to 4.0.0.5 (choosing DX 2nd-init)
- reboot
- no luck
Gonna try removing RM again & going straight to CWM 4.0.0.5 to see if that works.
What good does having the newer recovery do? Just curious.

I tried flashing it as well and it says in ROM manager that I'm on 4.0.0.5 but in recovery it says 2.5.0.8 so weird. Have you figured out what causes this?

I got mine working now An update came out (v4.3.2.3) which mentioned a fix for this exact problem & it updated properly for me too. I did notice that cache partition wiping is not as fast as v2.5.0.8 but who cares...IT'S ORANGE!
I know right, that is some sexy orange. One thing though is I've heard that you can only use backups made with 4.0.0.5, haven't actually run into myself since I cull my backups every once and a while to free up SD card space, and that some update zips won't work anymore because the new clockwork requires another file inside of it, my memory is failing me on what that file exactly is.
How is the 2nd inti different from Koushs recovery? I heard it had something specifically to do with CM7. But why cant they use the normal CWM. Wasn't obsidian able to use the regular CWM it was almost pure AOSP besides the kernel. So why the change? Just curious why it is needed.

Thank you very much I am now indulged in an interesting read.
EDIT: Ok so I read the post and followed it somewhat not knowing all the technicalities but got the jist of it. We still cant unlock the boot loader or kernel. Knowing this, what features are not going to be implemented in CM4DX?

Xda app issues with Rendeiro's scramble mod

So I have been using the scramble 2.2.1 from Rendeiro2005. Very happy with it and will stick with it until there is a good 2.3 mod out.
One weird issue I have been having is that I am unable to update the XDA app that came with the mod. When I go to update it, I get "installation unsuccessful". I tried to just uninstall and reinstall and I am unable to uninstall. With root uninstaller, I get "uninstall unsuccessful".
Not a huge deal, but it is a bit irritating. I looked through the whole thread in the developers forum and didn't see anyone else with this issue. Anyone have any ideas about this?

Ok so I got on a computer and did some searching. I seem to fail at searching the forum from my phone, because I found this thread.

It is odd, because the OP on that thread was having issues with calls and other things because he didn't patch his baseband. I am on 2.1.54 and not having any other issues besides this one. Do I need to do something with the baseband?
you are not able to update XDA app coz its in /system/app folder and not /data/app
as per my understanding
that's becuase it comes packaged with the rom itself.....
BTW any specific reason why you want to update the app...

I checked for an update because it crashed a couple of times and it gets hung up every so often. I uninstalled it with titanium like in the other thread and I am now getting "Incompatible Update" just like that other guy. Now I have nothing.
I made a backup with xrecovery about week ago and I guess i can restore that to get the app back, but I would like to fix this instead. Is there some reference I can remove to be able to install the app in the /data/app folder?

Downloaded the 3.2 update, didn't install, how to delete?

I have downloaded the 3.2 update and haven't installed it yet, but it doesn't still want to remind me of the fact many times a day. Any advice on where to go to delete that bad boy so it stops annoying me and I stay on 3.1 with root?
Sent from my A500 using XDA Premium App
I had done the same......after a while the tab itself deletes the update and when you click on install for installing the update you will have to download it again....that time just cancel it...and you are done.

On my MT4GS, I did the same thing, downloaded and deleted and it never came back, so I was hoping to do the same thing here, but the downloaded update didn't appear in the download folder. Now I'm not sure where it is.
Is that a problem, or do you still not understand simple topics?

How to run Sky Go on rooted S3

This is not my patch it was member UpInTheAir
but download:
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/19780267/SU-BusyBox-CWM_Manager-Uninstaller.zip
Flash the zip then delete the superuser apk..
Sky Go then works. To get root back just install superuser and busy box, root access back.
Only takes 2 minutes.
If this helps you please click thanks, going to watch Germany GP now

uninstalled superuser, rom manager, and root explorer.
booted into cwm using the volume key, menu button, and power button.
it appeared to flash/install properly, with no errors as well.
Did you use a different method to flash as it says removing cwm, and i'm guessing it can't remove it if it's in use.
I flashed the zip on reboot un installed su, sorry I just tried again to see your problem, no the problem was me, and just install su from market and busy box to get back root. Sorry when I'm home I'll change the instructions.

have the latest version. uninstalled it, ran the script and reinstalled just to make sure.
Could it be because I've updated via Odin?
I still get the not supported on rooted android device. everything else that uses root tells me my device isn't rooted!

There must still be something that it detects, not sure what. If your bbox and superuser are deleted there is no root access so I don't know what it's picking up
Edit: Nothing to do with Odin.

Hi Brian,
Good to see you're finding an alternative good use for the script. :good:
Just a quick explanation;
The script will only remove those files that are saved in system/ app & system/ xbin folders because of the original need to be able to remove evidence of those files whilst returning to stock (for warranty) via nandroid backup (where firmware wasn't yet avaiable). I could have written the script to remove files from data/ app, but they could be removed via traditional method or factory reset.
All (I know of) custom ROMs will have installed superuser to system, but if you download from the market, obviously the script won't remove it, as it's now installed to data rather than system folder
Code:
set_progress(1.000000);
ui_print("Removing SU, BusyBox & CWM Manager...");
mount("ext4", "EMMC", "/dev/block/mmcblk0p9", "/system");
delete("system/app/CWMManager.apk");
delete("system/app/CWMManager-SGS3-v3.50.apk");
delete("system/app/CWMManager-SGS3-v3.55.apk");
delete("system/app/CWMManager-SGS3-v3.60.apk");
delete("system/app/Superuser.apk");
delete("system/xbin/su");
delete("system/xbin/busybox");
unmount("/system");
ui_print(" ");
ui_print("Done!");
ui_print(" ");
Cheers

Hi Guys,
Not working for me. I originally installed Omega ROM using Samsung GS3 Toolkit. I then installed SuperUser from the market. Switched my super user app from SuperSU to SuperUser using the settings within SuperSU. Uninstalled SuperUser. Flashed the zip in CWM. Root checked says I dont have propper route access. My apps which require root do not get the root access they require but when I attempt to watch content on Sky Go, I get the following message: 'Sky Go is not supported on rooted Android devices.'
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
Dan
Found the problem, it was the method of root I was using. I was previously rooted via the SGS toolkit method and files in the root folder. did a complete reset/flash etc and re-rooted via cf root.
but after all that I haven't got any apps on my phone that require rooting :S
