Can't open /cache/recovery/log errors. need help!! - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Need tons of help! I've been searching the forums for almost 24 hours now trying everything and still can't get it fixed. I rooted and got s-off on my wife's MyTouch 4g. I installed ROM Manager and flashed the latest CWMR 5.0.2.0. I did a full Nandroid backup. Then I tried flashing a Gingerbread ROM over the Froyo rom. It went to white MyTouch screen and never left it. I finally gave up and went back to recovery. When I try to restore using Nandroid, I get this:
Error while formatting /system!
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E:Can't open /cache/recover/last_log
I can get into HBOOT, Fastboot and Recovery just fine.
I tried the RUU exe floating around and it always fails trying to reboot bootloader.
I tried letting it autoupdate the stock PD15IMG.zip floating around it always fails.
I've tried flashing different recoveries including older CWMRs and always get error about remote not enabled.
I'm at my wit's end. I'm leaving town tomorrow and need to at least get back to the nandroid backup before I leave. Any advice?

Wrong section dude ! Read the forum rules .

I put PD15IMG.zip on the sdcard. HBOOT checks the file and prompts me to update. When I choose yes, each option shows Fail-PU.
Is there something I'm missing here? Any help is appreciated. Sorry if it's in the wrong section. Can someone move the thread? Thank you.

I had the same problem, bad chip, just keep the ROM you are currently running, if you try to flash some thing you will have a semi brick.I couldn't never solve that problem.

not necessarily.. i recovered one of my MT4G's thats had this issue... Engineering bootloader is what saved my ass...OP, Did you flash the Eng bootloader when rooting your device??

That's the problem. I wasn't able to successfully flash a ROM so it's useless.

I rooted using a 1-click method I found here. I don't have the link in front of me. How can I check which one I have?

=/ I believe you should've flashed engineering bootloader before wiping your current ROM. Is your phone under warranty?

this happened to me as well. i went to ice glacier and then followed the instructions on the link
You cannot use 3.0.0.5 for stock. You must flash an older recovery or 3.0.0.6 and then it will work. This is covered extensively and has been asked over and over again.
Flash the correct recovery for the rom you want to use and your problem will be solved.

i'm not exactly sure of the commands but i know if you've got adb set up you should be able to do it. maybe adb shell?? i have no idea as i'm not a developer.
i'm confused why you couldn't get royal glacier flashed, it shouldn't matter which recovery you have with 2.2 roms. sounds like your phone just doesn't want to comply...
forgive me... as this is much a partial question as it is a suggestion... (coming from WinMo to Android myself) but can't Clockwork Mod be updated FROM Clockworkmod recovery??
I seem to recall that update.zip is the install for the clockworkmod install... and there's an option within clockwork to install update.zip... isn't that correct?
If so... wouldn't you just download the .zip for 3.0.0.6, copy it to the microSD and install it, then install the ROM of choice?

Need Help! Phone wont boot up & restore is corrupt

The phone been crashing on me like crazy and it force it's self to reboot, just to crash even more weird. Well the phone won't boot up, it just get stuck at the t-mobile part. What i did before doing anything crazy to this phone, just did a basic let pull the battery out, and see if this fix it. After two times nothing, I did the gfree way to root the phone. Here my phone details.
Glacier pvt eng s-off
Hboot- 0.85.2007 (PD1510000)
Microp-0429
Radio-26.03.02.26_M
eMMC-boot

I did hours of research to figure out my error I'm getting on the phone, I can't find a way get this fix..When I boot up the phone to HBOOT it's trying to do a sd checking and try's to find PD15IMG.zip it doesn't find it. I launch Recovery, Once It loading up CWM v5.0.2.0. I get this errors
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
So this isn't good, I even know that. So what i did wipe data and cache it does it fine and works. So when I try to restore it wont let me at all, so that mean it corrupt, so im stuck now. Did my research on here, some say to flash a new rom, well i did and didnt work at all, it came to a point that it wouldn't let me installed a rom also. I just need help with this, I really need to use my phone. I had to installed the a rom doing a ADB way, it work but it still won't boot up at all. Can anyone help me with this?
Do you have a bad eMMC? Have you checked it?
At this time, the first priority is to boot up the phone. so return back to the stock Rom.
Just follow this steps for an error free installation.
1. Download the stock 2.2.1 rom here.
2. Rename it to PD15IMG.zip
2. Place it on the root of your sd card.
3. Remove the battery and Switch On your phone while holding the Power button & the down volume button.
4. The hboot menu will update your phone (do according to the hboot instructions).
Once you are in the stock Rom, check the eMMC. If it is good, you can proceed with rooting.

IF THE BOOTLOADER SHOWS FAIL-PU THEN YOU ARE BRICKED. Fail-PU means failed partition update, nothing could be written to the eMMC chip, since the chip has died.

Fail-PU means failed partition update, which means the eMMC chip died, which basically, to sum it all up means you're bricked.

[Q] Clockwork Won't Boot Into Recovery (RED EXCLAMATION MARK)

Hey trying to help my brother with his phone and I've never encountered this problem before.
He downloaded Rom Manager from the Market and proceeded to flash CWM.
After flashing I told him to use the "Reboot into recovery" in order to create a NANDroid back up.
His phone reboots and then gets stuck on an image of what he says is a "phone with a red exclamation mark."
I've checked with him and he says "fast boot" is off. His phone IS rooted.
Obviously this is the first time he's ever needed to use CWM.
I've never personally encountered this problem and I've rooted 10 (6 replacements for me and one for my wife, 2 for my brothers and one for their girlfriend lol.) MT4Gs and have installed custom ROMs.
If you guys have any suggestions or ideas PLEASE let me know.
Thanks a lot.
The forum search yielded some threads about turning off "fast boot" or maybe a bad flash.
I've had him reflash CWM. Still no luck.
Again, thanks for any help.
I'm assuming he's rooted right? With S-OFF? In any case, it seems that it's not sticking. One common mistake is that he might have accidentally denied the SU permissions while opening RM. So un install and re install RM and make sure you accept SU permissions.

I told him to update Superuser. We'll see if that helps.

Yeah try updating the latest SU and make sure he didn't deny RM. That's might be what happened. If not, try updating his CWM manually via terminal emulator, ADB or Fastboot.
Here's how to do that.
For clockwork recovery to actually work, you have to download rom manager and from within rom manager install clockwork first.
You just do not download rom manager and right away boot into recovery.

Whoa! Why don't we chill out a bit yea. I just mentioned it because some people think that just downloading rom manager and trying to boot into recovery that's how you flash the thing and get it working.
And I did read the whole thing and did read where you said rom manager got downloaded and prceeded to flash cwr. But you also stated you told your bro to press reboot into recovery. Which made me think he probably mistakenly, try booting into recovery before actually flashing it. I was just trying to cover steps to help you guys out.

Problem rooting mt4g 2.2.1

So I've rooted my phone twice following the instructions on theunlockr.com without any problems. Tonight I tried rooting my dads phone and I got temp root using visionary and then was able to get S OFF but now once I rebooted and tried temp rooting it again I can't get it to work. Most of the apps just force close as well. The only thing I can think of is to factory restore by flashing the PD15IMG and then starting completely over. Anyone know why this is happening and what to do?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Try ./gfree. Never fails. This is happening because your dad probably has the bad emmc chip

People tend to assume stuff without even thinking.
What happened to you, happened because of data corruption. Doesn't say anything about "good" or "bad" eMMC, definitely doesn't suggest that your phone is dead and needs replacement. But this thread suggests that reading, searching and thinking will get you better results than listening to people.
You already got S-OFF.
Most probably the only thing you need to do now is to get into bootloader, factory reset the phone, boot into the OS fresh (which will almost surely eliminate all the FCs you're seeing), install Visionary again, temp-root, and install custom recovery.
If you rooted with root.sh method (means, you have engineering bootloader installed) - you don't need even that. Get your fastboot operational, boot into bootloader, go to "fastboot" menu, connect the phone, download any CWM recovery image from the net, and "fastboot flash recovery your_downloaded_recovery_image.img".
And you might get it even simpler than both of the methods above:
Look in the Development forum for instructions on gaining root when already S-OFF. It's as simple as flashing PD15IMG with only a custom recovery image inside it. Since you're S-OFF, the image will be flashed by the bootloader without questions, and you'll get a custom recovery. The PD15IMG will be found in the right thread.
From there just boot into recovery and install a custom ROM of your choice.
Good luck.
Search before asking next time.

Market troubleshooting is pretty much deleting the market cache in applications or using an older version perhaps - but you need to deal with the mount errors..
Doesn't sound like a recovery issue but you can just flash CWM and 4EXT back and forth ... no need to delete as they both basically overwrite. I would stick with 4EXT at the moment. (all assumes s-off)
Read this, not mt4g but should apply Note 4EXT has a 'wipe all except for SD card' ... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1314629

Because that most likely IS the recovery, unless your sister decided to dig around in /system and mess around with stuff... I mean I don't think you can corrupt the cache by yourself. That's the recovery. I'd flash back to cwm from ROM manager or through fastboot. If you know how to use fastboot here's the command:
Code:
Fastboot devices
Fastboot flash recovery.img
Fastboot reboot recovery
Before you do that make sure that you have your recovery img downloaded and saved to your adb folder and renamed to recovery.img
Last step: hit the thanks button

it's the good one, SEM04G...
Than you should be perfectly safe. Just corrupt recovery

It doesn't matter at all, "good" or "bad" chip. This is an overblown hype.
Drop CWM, move to 4EXT recovery. You most likely got corruption during one of the recovery operations, or during doing something with your phone (especially if you pulled the battery for some reason).
There are at least 2 guides for that situation exactly, I wish people would read before posting.

Don't have anything left to teach, the link to Wiki with troubleshooting guide is in my signature, the other 2 guides are stickied in General forum. I hope that mentioning them would be enough, without giving direct links.
And the problem with Megaupload is bad... but there are already some mirrors for PD15IMG.
hey... is it because i flashed the newest radio lately?
some guy said that was the cause...

That also doesn't touch the cache partition, don't worry about how it happened, it just happened due to the corrupt recovery. We can move on now

Mine did that the other day, just cleared the cache through recovery and rebooted. Then waited 15 minutes haha
