In the settings you can change which applications can activate the LED, but I don't see a way to change the color. Anyone know how to change the LED color?

What makes you assume that you can change it?

More than likely the LED can display more colors, like the N1.

IMO the LED are only designed to produce 3 colors

No, it more than likely cannot.

I tried an app that tests this, it got the LED started but it only stays on green... I think it is safe to say that it only has about 2 colours and cannot be customized by an app... However this app was built for N1 and Milestone, so it could might just be not working right on MT4G
I used Handcent on the Droid X and it allows customizing the LED colors. I just tried Handcent on my MT4G and though the option is there for customizing the colors it doesn't respond to a key press so I assume it's disabled on this phone. You can still tweak vibration patterns and tones as well as different notification icons for different persons.
Yeah I tested out some apps and I could only get it to display green. Hopefully it can display other hex values so someone can develop that feature for us.

LED display with three basic color
I am bruce from one led display company, according to my idea that you can try to change the electronic current for it , then it can change the brightness for red, blue, green lights.
Because the white color is made of three basic color: 3:6:1 in red, green, blue.
If you need more details , please inform me .
bruce
It acts like the LED on the G1 did, i did some hacking when i used to have one, and through terminal could change its color, If i get the time, i'll see what i can come up with-
Nick
if you need any support, I can talk to our engineers to help you , if you are good at the electronics, we can introduce the IC for your reference to controll the bnrightness of led display
LED colors
If you are looking for different colors for your LED.....there is an app in the market called "noLED" that allows you to use LED icons that pop up on your screen each time you get a text, email, missed call, etc. Give it a whirl, I really like it!!!!!!

NoLED=battery killer
Used it on ny Captivate because there was no notification LED. No reason to use it on the MT4G

4G LED - color capable?
My My Touch 3G used to be able to do Green, Red, Blue, Orange, etc...I use Nitrodesk Touchdown and could have my email flash blue, appointments flash red, and Handcent SMS flash orange, therefore could simply look at the flashing LED to determine if it was email, sms, or appt. Did the 4G get designed to only flash orange and green, or is the ROM able to make tweaks to get more color out of the LED? I am able to have handcent flash orange and it works, but everything else simply flashes green no matter what you set it.
If you're running cm7 you can change them under cyanogen settings. You can have the led blink a different color for different app notifications too.

sadly, on the MT4G, you can only have red or green as your options on CM7

But isn't that a limitation of the phone and not CM7?

How well do you like it?
I noticed the led isn't flashing with it.
I'm a big fan of handcent- been using it for the past year. I love the customize options it offers.

I have used it for quite awhile and really like. I also liked how you could set you default messaging to it on eclair, however have noticed on the Froyo builds it doesn't give me that option (ie... click on stock messaging app and it will open handcent). I also like the customizations that you can do for each contact along with custom notifications for each contact.

my led flashes using handcent. I really like handcent especially for the popup notifications.
I have been using handcent on my last 2 phones. I have never had any problems with it and I love the high level of customization options.
Used it and liked it a lot. I had to ditch it, though, because when my automated work pager would send out texts, it would show two. No idea why, but it was a Handcent issue.
Big fan of Handcent. I really like the popups. Been back and forth between Chomp and Handcent but have been sticking with Handcent.

I was able to set it as default for messaging icon and swipe to text on call log. Using launcherpro btw

I absolutely do not. I don't see what the point is. Tried it and went back to stock Messaging app. Nothing there for me.
Stock app wastes a lot of space with user pics. Plus limited config options.

Tried it and hated it. Never liked the bubble style messaging. I like the stock better, just seems cleaner and easier to read.

Handcent is great. You can change nearly everything, including the chat style. Chat bubbles are not the only option. There is a style that is similar to, but better than, the stock app. The mms shows up in the chat screen unlike the way the stock app does a stupid slide show. Handcent also backs up your mms, even allowing you to select the back up directory. The popup chat window is also very nice. The ablility to respond so easily is extremely useful. At first, the number of config options is overwhelming.
I use launcher pro plus on my phone. I had handcent on my evo and now on my epic. It is far superior to the oem app on both phones. Remember to disable the notifications in the stock app so you don't get double notifications. The nice thing about launcher pro, other than being much better than touchwiz in every way, is that you can set handcent to default for messaging. This completely eliminated the use of the oem app.
Epicly posted using the xda app!
+1 for handcent. Its rad! Something you don't like? There is a config option to change it more than likely.
Only beef is the outragous $6 price for pro. So many options to reset every flash. Fixed this with mybackup pro data restores.

I've tried both but prefer ChompSMS. Look into both, they're very similar.
My wife and I both love it!
It is just so customizable. The free version has worked fine for our needs.

After seeing the advice about the settings, I'm sold on Handcent now. Takes a while to deal with all the customization in there but now that I have it looking more like the stock without the bubbles and white backgrounds it definitely is nice. The pop up on the lock screen is nice, and so is being able to select recipients instead of having to type their names. Way more features than stock.
I've use Handcent on any Android phone I've had and love it
Is there a way to set this as default when clicking the Messaging app in the dock on touchwiz? And I don't mean opening messaging then composing from handcent.

I love this app. Although I have issues with the upload and download portion. Just one question/suggestion for the developers. Can u make a version/ option to invert the colors. I've been messing with the gmail app that has black background and im pretty fond of it... plus I hear dark colours significantly reduce battery drain on samoled

Had no idea what you were talking about until I saw the signature.
Yeah, black background would be nice. Blacks on AMOLEDs are basically just the pixels shut off, whereas with LCD the backlight continues to eat energy regardless of whether most of the screen is dark.

Under settings just change the display style to dark. My xda app has the background black w/ white text.

Just an FYI XDA doesn't develop this app, Tapatalk does. They have the same app for hundereds of forums. The forum admin installs a plugin on the server to allow Tapatalk to work, and then they can skin a version of Tapatalk to go with it.
If you have requests for UI/Usefullness you should probably look them up, not XDA.
Hello.
I am rooted, using the stock rom.
Is there an app to invert colors on SMS, and say, Internet application?
Example: White letters, black background.
Don't know about stock but cyanogen roms has this feature built in.
Handcent SMS will let ya do that for your text
Thanks guys, I checked out both, tried CM7 a few weeks back, but was too glitchy on my phone, and things weren't working. I wil try it again in a few weeks after they have some more dev time.
Many messaging apps from the market let you customize the appearance or apply themes. I personally like GO SMS.
if you tried CM7 a few weeks ago and it was too glitchy for you, the latest CM7RC2 was dropped this week also TeamRoyal just dropped the latest version of RoyalGinger and they are both super stable and very quick TR:RG is definitely faster and so far more stable for me.
Wooooo! Thanks for the heads up on GO SMS, and also, thanks for the updates on the ROM's Raven, I am checking both out now!
Question... This is only a customization locally, right? I realize that fonts and other formatting would not appear in the recipient of sms, but with inverted text, I imagine there may be ways (and certainly using apps which are mutually installed) that the recip could get the sms inverted too....without the recipient needing to install anything.

There's Javascript for that
That problem appeared a long ago, and one guy made a javascript for doing this, inverting colors in a browser; no root needed, just add his page as a bookmark, and use it, whn you want
tonymuka.com/js (i am kinda new here; not allowed to post links, and stuff)
Also, I heard Boat browser have this function..

Same here =)
I upgraded from the Sprint Epic 4G Touch with JB 4.1. My phone app had a blue background and dark theme. Is there a way to change this bright white $h! t that Samsung has opted to go with? A dark theme and color also helps extend my battery life.
Same question on the default mail app. This changed with an update to the app itself at some point on my Epic 4G Touch. I don't remember how I changed the email app background color but I cannot find it in the settings which is where I thought I did it.
Can anyone recommend a good replacement to the stock email app that might allow this?
I think K9 mail has a black background.
