GAMELOFT cell bill billing. - Xperia Play General

Guys, believe this is something you should be aware of if you are purchasing your gameloft games games through text messaging instead of credit card. The company that handles the gameloft messaging will charge you the price of a game everytime you receive a message from them. In my case, 2.50 cdn. Following the purchase of 6 games I was charge additional 25 in 3 months.... Just double check your bill.
Sent from my XPlay using XDA App.

They did this to me too (I'm on Rogers).
Furthermore, Rogers will NOT do anything to assist you, you'll have to contact the company that does the billing, who will either push back on you, or require copies of bills, etc to prove this. Even if you prove it to them, they will not credit refunds to your Rogers account, they will mail you a check.
BEWARE.

Overseas Transaction Fee

Kinda annoying but I bought an app for $0.99 which is a cheap app when converted to GBP but I checked my bank and I was charged a overseas fees of £1.00 which kind of makes the app expensive now. Just wondering why google checkout doesn't do what the itunes marketplace does and do specific currency conversion for each region so that these fees don't happen. It's just so annoying because this was the first paid app I've bought and now I don't think I'm gonna be buying anymore until google do specific region currency conversions on google checkout!
ahh rant over.....
Anyone else had this problem?

Credit cards usually charge a fraction of this, like 2-4% of the conversion, many do so without any minimum fee. If you have a CC link it to Google checkout, if you have a bunch call CS and find their rates or go online (I know it's work, but it'll allow you to get more apps that'll enhance your experience.)
I can't suggest anything else, maybe someone more knowledgeable can chime in, or try Googling.
This is one reason why we need to see a dedicated app or in browser android marketplace with prices converted before hand to stop stuff like this happening.
My brother was telling me the other day how his bank is charging him $1+2% on every foreign transaction, then I told him my bank only charged me 2.5% flat. Maybe changing banks is a quick solution. =p
I do agree Google should do something about this as is just discourages people from using the market.
but that fee is not charged by google market.
it is a fee your back charges you for the money conversion service, just like when i use PayPal
there is no way and it's also not google's market place job to show you those fees, as each bank has their own fee, and those fees changes frecuently, it'll be insane to keep track of the fees of all the bank for all the servers, for all over the world.

No it's not Google's place to display credit card fee's, but it would be a minor change to display prices in your local currency and charge you that rather than paying in Yen, USD, etc and being charged for it.
It's ridiculous I was charged £1.25 for an appl that cost £3.23... Google are big enough to be able to turn checkout into something similar to Paypal. I'll not be buying anything else from the market if this means my bank are going to charge me for doing so. Bottom line is there are no options on Google checkout it sucks..
This is rather annoying for me too, I wish I could buy bulk vouchers of some sort, or pre-load money so I could buy several apps in one transaction.

Plug, shameless (but I'm not their shill): use AppBrain to browse apps to buy, change the currency selection at bottom of page from "Original currency" to your local currency (but note below). While you're at it, you may wish to install the AppBrain App Market and Fast Web Installer apps from the Market to easily sync your desktop selection with your phone.
About Google doing currency conversions right in the market app: That would be easy (simple API call to their own or any other reputable currency converter) but the price will only be an indication.
It is NOT possible to show you the grand total (the bottom line on your bill) in your currency, as that would need to include any extra charges your bank will add for international transfers etc., which Google doesn't (want to) know, as previous posters pointed out.
If you have a CC linked to Google Checkout, you will receive an email immediately after validation of a purchase which shows the total amount your CC will be charged.
Just FYI, simply converting the currency does not take away the overseas charge.
Becoming a customer of real proper bank (or credit card provider) is the only solution to make it go away.
Yep.. this may be helpful, if you're in the UK:
http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/travel/overseas-card-charges
Debit cards from Abbey, Halifax, Intelligent Finance, Lloyds TSB, NatWest and RBS all charge a per-transaction fee for foreign currency transactions. Credit cards all charge no more than 3% transaction fee, so are a better bet if you have one.

There are no fees for online purchases. I've been paying with PayPal on Ebay and other sites for ages - buying stuff from China, Europe and USA. Never paid a cent of fees.
It doesn't mean they make Android Market purchases free of charge as well, but one can hope
i use paypal every day, and every time there is money conversion involved, they charge a transaction fee
What do you use it for? Selling or buying?

You probably should check what you are being charged for.
Login to you PayPal account, and click the "fees" link on the bottom. You will get fee rates relevant to your account. This is what mine says:
I wasn't aware that PayPal charges a per-transaction fee, I thought it was just a percentage? I could be wrong though, but it's a big difference for small transactions.
If they let you use paypal, you could easily trade some USD/EUROS for your local currency and deposit them in paypal.
However Credit/Debit Card -> INTERNATIONAL TRANSACTION FEE -> PayPal -> PAYPAL FEE -> CURRENCY EXCHANGE -> EXCHANGE FEE -> Google Checkout.
It adds about 250% to the price even once converted.

Service alert call from Sprint today

Just thought I'd share, today I got a call from sprint. They wanted to know if I wanted some 3rd party charge for a ringtone on my line. Well, I have never and would never pay for a ringtone so someone is pulling a fast one.
When I asked how this happened the csr said I most likely signed up for it, and I said so why are you verifying it then. I can never understand these sprint csr's so we ended the call.
I think I won't get charged and I shouldn't be in the future. I would love to know how theses things happen.

I get $9.99 a month charge almost every month for my chase bank alerts
I call each time and ask why... they have no answer and reverse the charge..
Although sprint cs is lame. I've had US celluar, AT&T, verizon and they all stink!
I had some strange changes on my line too. The CSR was quick to reverse them for me and told me that there are some text messages that you can receive and unless you respond to them that you do not want their service, they will sign you up. It is a forced, opt-out thing. I hate that I have to watch my bill every month.
this just happened to me this month, had 2 charges at 9.99 a piece..no idea where they came from but sprint got rid of them and blocked the numbers or watever they do...kinda pissed me off...should we start running antivirus software like a dang PC now ???
Sprint takes huge hits on these. The charges aren't reversible in most scenarios. Sprint just covers the loses for them. Most of the sms charges by 3rd party companies are irreversible because in most case scenarios you opt in for it. The only time this doesn't apply is if your phone was hacked/stolen.
My guess is that sprint has some kind of fraud detection thing that caught this before I was even saw a bill that would have showed these charges.
Otherwise why would they have called me? Of course they say it was something I did.
I want to know who did charged my account and how?
Sounds like crime pays....lol
How do we research these sort of things?
Every once in awhile our checking account goes through a similar scenario, we get a call about some sadness, we confirm we dint make the charges and they reverse them and no one can ever tell us how this happens.

Well depends on what the charge was. If it was an sms charge then a virus or you sent a sms to a premium number. These numbers can be anything from bogus numbers that give nothing in return, or numbers that subscribe you to ringtones/jokes/etc..
If its a phone call, you could of accidently dialed out a premium number, or in some cases the number will call you and you miss the call so you call it back. In that case the payment is based on minutes. The initial call can range from a couple bucks, and can keep going up the more you stay on the line.
9.99$ is the maximum you can get charged for a premium text, while there is no limit on premium calls.
Premium numbers are 100% legal, and there's a LOT of fortune 500 companies that use them as a form of payment.
The most common one is jamster, and you can see what i mean by going here:
http://ace.jamster.com/coinblue/phoneInput.page?i=721126&__fs=null
I suggest not filling it out since your number will be charged 9.99.
You can read the TOS for more:
Under 18 need parental consent. $9.99 per month XXL plan (6 ringtones, 10 graphics and 4 games/apps) until cancellation. Games/apps not available on Verizon Wireless, Virgin Mobile or T-Mobile. Terms of Service | Plans & Pricing | Privacy Policy Cancel anytime by texting STOP to 75555. For help go to http://www.jamster.com or call 866-856-5267.

lol no they won't. You agree to the terms when you sign the contract. It's the same reason why in most cases people that get hit with credit card fraud never get their money back. The 3rd party never refunds in most scenarios. Especially not sms.
That's like saying you can walk into a store, eat, and walk out without paying. They are selling you services through sms. The only time you can charge back successfully is when the text was used in an illegal manner. No opt out, no tos, hacking, etc..
And i know for a fact sprint takes a hit, because at&t and other carriers file a investigation, and won't give you your money back unless the cause of it was through illegal means.
I have three lines of service on my account; one for my 17 y/o son and I got one of these mystery $9.99 hits on his line. Called Sprint CSR and they took off the charge no questions asked. I also requested and they complied re: blocking such future charges. While I market through my credit card, he has no such card attached to his account so I don't know if that had anything to do with it. But I'd suggest both calling and then blocking such intrusions. We'll see next bill how that worked for me.

at&t offers a discounted monthly bill

i know people are aware that at&t offers discounts via college's and/or employer's..but if those options aren't available to you, you can still get a discount!!
for new customers:
10% off monthly recurring charges
Waived Activation Fee
Free Shipping, and
Heavily discounted handsets
for already existing customers:
10% off monthly recurring charges
Waived upgrade fees (weekends)
Discounted handsets (for upgrades)
Free Shipping
to get the discount:
google student rate and go to their site.
their wireless promos are on the front page (you can't miss it).
go through them and you can obtain a discount phone & monthly bill!!
is there any way to go to an at&t location and still apply the discount via student rate?
Most carriers offer something for a lot of companies/schools. Just ask.
I've even heard people getting discounts over the phone just by asking nicely even if they don't qualify.
I have 25% with Sprint..
I get a 15% "discount" for being a union member.

That doesn't seem very legit. I'd go into a store directly and ask for a student discount. The rep I talked to the other day said he didn't know if it counted for community colleges, but he said it did count for uni. Probably you just need a .edu email and then it's good, but yeah, ask.

[Q] "Google Wallet account on hold." Am I in trouble?

I live in Belgium and we don't have the full play store, only apps. But I managed to buy a Nexus 4 in November through a VPN with a credit card and an American adress of a service that will ship US items to Belgium or the Netherlands.
Before that I also bought stuff like magazines, movies, music through VPN, both from UK and US play store. Never had any problems! Just used my creditcard and a random UK or US adress when I wanted to buy something from the US/UK play Store. Haven't bought a whole lot though.
But since a few days ago now when I want to buy something from whatever store Belgium/UK/US my payment can not be authorized and the orders get cancelled.
When I go to Wallet and check the the transactions it now says:
Google has cancelled your order. You won't be charged.
Reason: Other (describe below)
Comments from Google: "We have cancelled your order because your account is on hold."
My account is on hold... Buying things from foreign play stores while not living there is illegal or fraude and now it seems my account is up for review I guess. Am I in trouble? Legally? Is there something google can do?

Others had mentioned the same thing when trying to buy their phone when the credit card address did not match up to the shipping address. IIRC, one person fixed the issue quickly by changing their credit card address through that credit card company to their desired shipping address and the order went through.

Yeah, heard this as well, although for my case, both shipping and billing address are the same. I also previously received error messages, but those said payment declined, which I would assume is what would happen if the addresses don't match. But now, it says my account is on hold. I've even read people being asked to verify their accounts with passport and drivers licenses but I have not received any similar notification.

I think making a new account is out of the question as many would have already spent quite a bit of money on apps and other stuff on their current accounts.
Anyway, I'm also in the same boat here. Problem started early February for me. Last night, somehow I could actually purchase the Google play credit (where previously I couldn't), but somehow even with that, I could not buy any apps!

How to place an order with Expansys??

Yeah okay, it sounds crazy but hear me out. I've never used Expansys, but guys on here seem to like them. I've always used Handtec (love them) and Negri (not crazy about them, but never a major problem)
So last night I place an order for 3 SGS4's (i9500) with expansys, using a credit card. This is the same credit card I've had for many years, I've used it to order *countless* phones from Handtec, Negri, etc. I prefer Google Checkout. Never an issue.
I get this email today:
Thank you for your order, however I'm afraid that we are unable to
accept it as a credit card order.
If you would still like us to ship your order you can pay for it by
bank transfer or Amazon checkout. .
Amazon Checkout can only be utilized if the item ordered is in stock and you will
need to create an account with Amazon (if you do not have one already) and be
subject to their security checks.
Please send a response email if you are willing to pay for your products via wire
transfer or wish to pay with Amazon checkout.
You must contact us via email so we can make sure the shipping charges are correct
before you send the wire payment.
We will send you wire instructions and the amount due. Your order will be
processed immediately upon receipt of funds in our account.
If you wish to pay with Amazon checkout, we will cancel this order and you will
need to place a new order and select that payment option.
Your credit card has not and will not be charged.
Thank you for placing your order with eXpansys.

Okay, so I called them up to find out the problem. All he could tell me was due to security they can't accept *a* credit card. (not just *my* credit card) So I asked about going through Amazon. (I'm a prime member) He tells me they can't do that either, until the phones are actually in stock. So my ONLY choice is to pay a fee, and do a bank transfer. (which boggles my mind... the phones won't be shipping for at least 1.5 weeks)
So now what? Negri is the only other place with the I9500s, and they want $75 more per phone. I wish Handtec had them, but they only have the I9505s.
Is there something else I can do, or someone else I can talk to? I told they guy the only option I have is to use Negri, he didn't care. What am I missing?
(yes this is half rant, half question...)

USA. The order was for 3, totaling $2300 ish.
Sent from my C6603 using Tapatalk 2
Hmmmm, wonder if it's the amount either in dollars or number of phones? Might try and see if the website will accept an order for one. If they don't there is something up with your card. I can only go back to last years order but I made that one with a different card that was subsequently cancled do to a mass security leak. At any rate I have used two different cards there for sure. If they do accept the order you could order them one at a time I suppose. Guess if there was no time cruntch that would be the cheaper route.
Wire transfers bank to bank should not be that expensive, I have done a number of them for watches and never paid more than 40 dollars so that would still be quite a bit cheaper than Negri. IMO another route would be to call up and ask to be escalated up to someone who has the authority to make a call. I would guess if buying 3 that person might be willing to deduct it from the total price.
They made it VERY clear that it wasn't anything to do with my particular card. He just said no card could be used at all.
I'm going to try and get ahold of someone else tomorrow.
Sent from my C6603 using Tapatalk 2
I have ordered from them before, but only once and no issues. The dollar amount and qty of phones could be the issue and perhaps they are concerned about fraud given the popularity of the phones, risk of not getting paid if it were a case of fraud, etc.
I would say its a tough call, doing a $2300 transfer is something I wouldn't do no matter how much I liked a reseller, you could wait until they are in stock, but you risk them selling out quickly.
What kind of guarantee are they giving you if you needed to cancel the order, how long to get the funds back, are there any fee's etc. Would they do something to offset the fee's, say a credit towards accessories, etc? Never hurts to ask and that is a nice order.

I bought my gt-i9100 and motorola xoom off of expansys. First time cc worked no problem second time they asked for money transfer which I did. Everything went fine they shipped right away. Just make sure you ask the to fill out the international warranty papers in the box.
If you'd like to PM me I can get to the bottom of this for you. Is your CC by chance issued outside of the USA? That is what initially comes to mind.

In my case, contacted UK Expansys for a quote, as US chat support told me to contact their UK division for a quote, with European tax and warranty. Two days and no reply yet :/ Support it's not serious at all and this could be a problem in case warranty support it's needed.

limited amount of white landing today, but our annual inventory starts at noon. If fedex gets to us by 10:30am, all white backorders go out today.
Bummer, I'm in early but for the black. Thanks for the update regardless.
Just an FYI for the thread, Corey was able to take care of the problem for me, but I had already placed an order w/Negri. (it shipped the very next day, no time to cancel)
