I find myself being a noob after being a lurker around here for 2 years. This is my first post. I came here to learn and pretty much felt everyone here knew so much more than I did and I really had little to post of value. About a month ago I flashed several of the ROM's and then upgraded the OS on my Windows 6.5 mobile HTC HD2 using the binaries and instructions from the xda Windows forum. Everything went smoothly and it is now running beautifully on Windows 7.5 mobile. Faster than any of my friend’s stock Win 7 phones, I might add. I'm a certified Unix Engineer and pretty much an expert on Linux having written much of the original code for printing when Linus was developing the first version. I now run Linux Mint in an Oracle Virtual box on Windows 7 Ultimate for my SMTP server. I realize this is somewhat of a regression and I apologize for boring you guys with my background but I felt the need to give a bit of personal info before getting into my request for help, so that any adviser would know that I can talk the talk as well as walk the walk. My noob status is because I came here to learn and not post stupid issues and embarrass myself, I constantly see much of that in all the forums. I have searched and read all advice I can find on xda prior to this post and find others who have had the same problem but their resolutions don’t work for me. I am at the point where I had to post. If anyone has any fresh ideas that can help, please speak up. I'm not bricked but I might as well be, I'm stuck on 3.0.1. Here is my problem.
I allowed Acer's OTA 3.2 to update my Icona A500 last Thursday. The table was rooted and I had updated the xpa_supplicant to support ad hoc wifi while on 3.1. I saved that update over to my external SD before accepting the OTA update to Android 3.2 from Acer. I was hoping that Acer had fixed the ad hoc issue but afraid I might have to re-root and reapply the xpa_supplicant after the flash. I stupidly didn't read all the cries for help both on xda and on the Acer sponsored A500 forum prior to taking on the Acer OTA update. Many of the Acer forum post now showing up are from owners who aren't technical, have no idea what rooting is and no idea even that their Android is hosted on Linux but were unhappy with superficial changes the upgrade had done to various parts of the the UI and the effects it was having on some of their apps. My issue was I need ad hoc wifi or my tab is worthless for my business needs if it can tether and travel. Again, I regress and I apologize.
You guys already know the consequences for the OTA 3.2 update from Acer so I won't go into that. I had planned to flash my first ROM this weekend anyway, as I wanted to upgrade to Tabtoony 2.1. But, after realizing that I couldn't root after the OTA 3.2 from Acer, I download the Acer recovery installer and installed thor's CWM recovery v5.0.0.0 rev 1.3.4 and used it to flash the tablet back to Android 3.0.1 via stock 1.141.07_COM_GEN1. 3.0.1 was known to be buggy and won't even keep a wifi connection for longer than 5 minutes so I couldn’t just stay at 3.0.1. So I proceed forward by then following very systematically the directions from drkalo on the xda A500 forum on flashing your first ROM. These are the step that I when through.
1. I download the Tabtoony 2.1 zip via Windows. I ran IZarc test on the zip from Windows to make sure there were no CRC problems in the zip. All files were good and I even unzip it on Windows with no errors or other problems.
2. The tablet was rooted by CWM so I didn’t need to run Gingerbreak or Iconaroot. I connected the tab to Windows via wifi after re-downloading File Manager HD from the market (I like it better than Root Explorer) because it supports network connetion to Window NTFS file system.
3. I copied the upgrade zip using File Manager HD over to my External SD card and to the Internal SD card, still unsure which one it should be on. There are several YouTube video tutorials on Flashing Tabtoony to the A500. In every one, the demonstrator copies the zip to be flashed to the internal SD card but drkalo explicitly says the external SD. I copied it over to both. BTW, my external SDHD is formatted to FAT32 could that be a problem? I know most Linux distributions have built-in support for FAT32 but I realize the core Linux used on the tab is customize and not one of the standard distributions at least as far as I know. So I have no idea what features may or may not have been removed. But the external card was visible and useable in 3.1 after I created a mnt point to it manually.
3. I then booted into recovery mode and CWM came up and I cleared several caches as suggested and I then chose “– choose zip from sdcard”. I immediately got the following of message:
E:Can’t mount /sdcard
I am then returned to the CWM recovery menu
4. I have tried formatting the sdcard from CWM. Although I still don't know which SDcard is being referred to, but I get the following messages:
Formatting /sdcard…
Error mounting /sdcard!
Skipping format….
Done.
Upon rebooting back to 3.0.1 both sdcards still have all their data on them so format truly does fail. So I'm stuck in 3.0.1 and can't get CWM to mount "the" sdcard or format it. So I can’t flash a new customized 3.2. I have gone over drkalo xda post step by step several times to be sure I'm not missing something but the results are always the same. I would be grateful for any advice or new ideas.
Thanks and I apologize for the long post.

I personally use the external sd card formatted on an Android phone to place the update.zip. CWM mounts the external card (even though the option is called mount /sdcard/ and you can choose the zip file on it.
Good luck!
Piotr
Just use a usb thumb drive, copy the rom to it, plug into your tab, boot cwm, select the rom and flash. I always use the thumb drive.
Thanks your point is well taken. I used a Windows 7 phone to format the the SD card. I noticed in one of the links that you posted for me a link to a program called SD format. That link provides a format program for Windows and Apple. But, one of things they explain is that a properly formatted SD
has a reserved area for file indexing. I've probed mine and can't find such an area visible or hidden. That may the problem. I don't have a Win machine that uses micro SDs but I'll try formatting it in my friends Android phone and see if that fixes the problem. Thanks for you help. I'll post back to this thread so anyone interested can kow the result if this resolves the problem or not.

Thanks Shaun, I did notice that USB was an option. Actually that's probably the easest way. That never ocurred to me. Fortunatly I have a few thumb drives lying around unused. Bet that will work. I'll try that tonight. I still fell a bit obligated to help solve the SD card problem since it seems to be
so prevelant. I'll let you know how it goes. One question though how do you format your USB? Do you do it on Windows or your adriod device?
Thank for you help and suggetion.

I don't know if I have ever formated my thumb drives just the factory format. Did a windows format and it still worked fine for a test and fat 32. Have you tried a different msd card. Good luck, can get stressful.
Well Piotrdev was correct. I reformatted the drive on a friends Android phone and immediatly noticed a difference. While still in the phone it now showed a lost file folder that the Windows phone format did not create. There may hane been other differences, but I didn't take the time to explore further. I immediatly reinserted the card back into the tablet, copied over the Taboony 2.1 zip and rebooted into CWM. Chose the option - install zip from sdcard, it then ask me to choose which file to install. I navigated to the Taboony 2.1 zip, pressed the power button to select it and installation began. Several message flew by indicating installation was proceeding then it said ROM flash completed sucessfully. I did a power off and back on and immediatly saw a new spinning screen that said Taboony. It ran for about 3 minutes then went to an unconfigured login screen. I knew I had made it then.
So the lesson learned is that neither Windows FAT 32 format is acceptable to CWM, nor is CWM's format acceptable because CWM's format fails if the card is not already properly formatted because he can't mount an improperly formatted drive.
Guys thanks for all your help. I had been stuck for 2 days. I learned something and maybe the others who Piotrdev reported posted a similar issues can get theirs resolved too. I'm pretty sure improper drive formatting is the cause of most other posters problems. We need to write an SD format program for Android Tablets. There is nothing in the market that indicares that it formats SDHDs.
I now have a Taboony 2.1 Tablet which has lots of new apps not available in the market. I need to explore a bit more to see what apps were in the flash but the most needed by me is a full featured office suite and ad hoc wifi to my cell phone router. The xda Taboony Team has ported over Asus's Polaris Office and my first look at it indicated that it appearedsc that it fits the bill. Of course I've just voided my warranty, but after Acer's lockdown to preventing rooting, I had pretty much decided to avoid any updates from them in the future anyway As I told my friend whose phone I used to format the card, at the price they are selling for now, it's just a throw away if you brick it and can't recove.
Problem solved!
Peace

I have the same problem, my CWM is not mounting my sd card, but it seems to recognize my USB flashdrive as the SD card, im super confused and i havent seen any forms that have talked about it, i never had this problem with my HD2 OR my Samsung Galaxy S

I have been delaying opening a new thread - I thought I could get it fixed on my own, but I haven't been able to find anything that works ... I've found lots of things that look like they should have worked, but then after days and days of experimenting I'm still left with my expensive brick.
It's been over a month now since it was originally out of commission and BN has refused any help or replacement ... big surprise. Since it's been a while, I can't remember exactly what happened, but this should be pretty close:
Took it out of the box --> registered it with BN --> read up and decided to put the CM7 stable release on it. Had CM7 120 I think, plus Google apps, plus overclocking froyo 022311. Was working great but kept prompting me to update to the next stable release (the RC1). I decided to make a backup and apply the update. Pretty much went dark during the upgrade and I haven't been able to do anything with it.
The screen won't even flicker, let alone backlight, or CWM menu regardless of which combinations of buttons, sequence, etc.
From what I can tell from the forums, I have a corrupt boot partition.
Here are some of what I have tried: (I've tried these on both Windows and Mac)
1) made a new CWM SD image and tried to boot to that - still the same thing ... nothing. I've tried making several different versions, the latest being 3.0.2.8.
2) tried to use ADB to talk to it and dd new boot.img and system.img files that I found in a forum thread.
- Although I can get ADB to talk to the nook (see it, and execute reboot commands, etc.) I can't get into the adb shell. It complains about a missing file when that command is run.
Some other threads I tried: (that I can remember)

It seems like I'm stuck because the recommendations I see for fixing the boot partition, or the ADB shell problem are to create a new bootable SD card and flash from various zip files once the CWM menu is there. This isn't working because I cannot get the nook to boot to CWM from the SD...If I could get it to boot to the SD, I would be home free!
I can tell the thing is alive and trying to boot because when I've got it plugged into my PC, I can see it get added to Device Manager (as an Android + the two BN disk drives), and I can hear the plug-n-play picking up the changes when the power button is held down. If I plug it in after inserting the bootable SD card, I can see it trying, but it fails to load the driver.
Do you guys have any recommendations? I feel like I'm close, but can't get there. There's no way I'm the .01 % of people who can brick a nook ... is there?
Thanks!
I had a similiar problem with booting off an sdcard. It just wouldn't no matter what I tried. Then I burned a new bootable cwm card but used the mounted sdcard from my nook instead of the sdcard adapter plugged into my PC. This worked finally. What this tells me is some sdcard adapters don't work well with burning bootable sdcards. Give this technique a shot and then restore the nook to factory stock using a cwm restore-to-stock file. Then update to BN v1.3 and start over with your CM7 tinkering. ( check the Dev section for the restore to 1.2 stock update.)
Edit - what I meant to say but didn't clairify is try different adapters if the nook won't mount the sdcard when plugged into the PC. Also...try uninstalling the adb drivers and try getting the nook to show the sdcard mounted in your PC.

UPDATE well it looks as though I have found a solution to my woes. I made several attempts of formatting the 2gb card in my laptop to no avail. I tried my old captivate that it originally came out of and the cappy had troubles reading it. I then stuck it in my evo and it registered instant, so I did asdcard format on my evo and then finally the tablet registers the card. In case this helps anyone else
First off someone please enlighten me on the tabs use and the way it mounts the external SD, I read somewhere that it only uses it for media files such as music books and pics. I have an 8GB that belongs in my EVO, and a 2gb that I had for my captivate I was hoping to use in my Tab for now.
Here's my story, maybe someone can shed a little light here: My tab was purchased with Stock 3.1, I was getting annoyed by the constant update request so I went ahead and rooted and installed CWM without incident, then I decided to install the Stock rooted update from here, however when I insert my SD cards they say they are unavailable. So I stick my 2gb in my laptop format to fat32 (should this be different?, typically it works in every other device I own) It still won't read, I did exactly as others point out in other threads but still I am stumped as to how the card is made available to the OS ? Now in a fit of frustration I pulled my 8gb out of my evo put the 2gb in and wham there it is, I put the 3.2 download on the 8gb popped it in tab entered CWM and flashed the update, I don't know if the 2gb is mountable in CWM I will try tonight but the 8gb was mountable through CWM however my 8gb also was not available to Android even after the update.
So what the heck is the use of the external SD and how is it used?
I think you might have an issue with your ROM,
I use my external SD for my titanium backups and other files I want to keep portable. I have used the SD card through my PC via USB and directly by putting into the PC's card reader.
Have you tried using a file manager? I use File Manager HD and the external card shows up as Storage on the left bar.
As for the filesystem, I think I may have originally formatted as FAT but I have also pulled my SD out of my Blackberry and used it to install Honeylicious through CWM,
All in all I dont think you should be having the issues that you are having...
Good luck
If it won't mount in CWM you need to format it in your android phone, that fixed it for me. Once it is formatted correctly you'll see a notification that an SD card is installed. Also my PC wouldn't see it until I put a custom rom on. Also to store items on it you can use a file manager to move things to and from it.

The 8gb card did mount in CWM but would not mount in the OS, or when it would I would get it was unavailable or sometimes even empy when I know there is only about 1 gb free space, I did not test the 2gb in CWM mainly because it was late and I needed to go to bed, but I will try tonight. The 8gb is the one I updated to rooted 3.2 with, I still need to go to 3.2.1 ? Is there a rooted Stock 3.2.1 floating around I really havent looked much into it yet
I have noticed that getting the iconia to read some sd cards is like tossing dice..Most people who have this issue says one card works perfect in every device but not in the iconia.. Some say the card will work sometimes and not others .. Some say the card works in cwm and not with file manager..
The issue here i think is that you have two CARDS THAT ARE FUSSY ABOUT mating with the iconia. OR Your rom .i would read the threads in the rom you are using.. IF still nothing that sounds like your issue ask the DEV about this.. If STILL No luck you can either try to buy a new diffrent card or flash a new rom to try and Diag. this issue..
Good luck..
Silly question
Is your microSD formatted FAT32?
If it is anything else, your unit may have trouble reading it depending on what ROM you are using - Not all ROM's are capable of reading NTFS or other file systems.
Sometimes, microSD's freak out as well, and the only way to get it back to normal is to format it in a Symbian phone (Nokia)
Also, make sure you are using the correct mount point for the card - /mnt/external_sd - Root Explorer and other apps like it can get there.
Other than that, you may just have a bad microSD, I have had many of them die for seemingly no reason.
Hi,
I have an Acer Iconia A500, currently running Taboonay (ICS). I bought it in the US, and brought it to the UK with me, so I can't get it back to the place I bought it (unfortunately), or I'd return it... but hoping someone here can help me fix this:
Shortly after I bought it, the tab lost the sd card, and I've only once ever been able to see it again. While flashing Taboonay, the recovery did (once only, not reproducable) recognise the sd card, and show me the contents properly. This is the slim hope I have that it's not a hardware issue...
I have tried with multiple SD cards, formatted with different file-systems, and none of them have mounted at all, or even been recognised by the tab.
I have tried a few (can't remember the names of them now) root-level card-mount applications, and none of them have helped either. They just can't see the card at all.
If anyone has any tips for software solutions that I can try, I'd be very grateful! I would very much like to avoid a re-flash, or anything that will reset my internal storage...
Thanks,
Rich

Typically EXT SD Card issues usually are software related. With the exception of bad SD Cards.
1. Update your Recovery to the most recent version.
2. Or, try a different recovery like Public Recovery
I will assume you are on an ICS bootloader, and that your recovery is correct for ICS?
If you have the V8 Bootloader installed for example, you can boot the tab to Fastboot mode, Then start Fastboot from the Android SDK on your PC. (place your recovery image in the same folder as fastboot.exe) and type;
Fastboot Flash Recovery nameofyourrecovery.img
Also, the rom you are using may need to be re-installed again (wipes and formats)
But go for option 1 or 2.
One more note. I have heard of people using the Format option in Recovery and have had success when PC formats won't work.
Along with using some specialized PC Format applications.

I was under the impression that Recovery Format formatted the internal memory on the A500 (as the internal memory is called "sd-card"). I would hate to get this wrong!
If you can suggest a PC Format app for me to try I'll give that a go too.
Rich
I have installed Public Recovery, and one change it has made, is that my boot time is significantly reduced...
I haven't had the time to do anything else yet.
Testing with an SD card shows that inserting one while the tablet is running DOES now pick up that a card is there. However, mounting it does nothing at all. Attempting to mount it through apps like DiskMount fails, but doesn't give me a meaningful error (just "Drive could not be mounted")
This seems to be a positive change, as the disk is being seen, if not understood, by Android now. First sign that there is a fix to this!
I googled for apps to format the SD on the PC, but didn't find anything (all the tips I found said to format with right-click, which hasn't worked so far)
Any further advice?
I have changed the recovery (again) to the latest Thor CWM, which claims to be good for ICS.
I am going to flash my bootloader tonight to one that explicitly works with this recovery and my current ICS ROM. I downloaded all the bits I need last night, but didn't have the time to actually flash it after all that.
I figured updating these couldn't hurt, and would ensure that I am on compatible versions.
The only thing left that has been suggested (beyond a total re-install) is formatting the sdcard with something more likely to give me a compatible format. I still lack confidence that the recovery knows the difference between my internal memory (called sdcard) and the actual SD card. For example, when installing a new recovery, selecting "install from zip on SDCard" takes me to the internal memory to select a file... This only leaves me with the option of using a specialist PC app, as was recommended, but still can't find one, so any advice here would be welcomed.
Or of course, any new course of action entirely...
Thanks,
Rich

I've used sdformat (attached) in the past or gparted (linux) will do it too...and yeh you're right to be wary...if the recovery doesnt recognise it then it will use yr internal sd...
not sure if you've got the drivers installed or not and
usb debugging is enabled
I do know that i had this issue with taboonay on HC once, never did get it figured out so just used another rom
the afterOTA tool will tell you if you have the drivers installed,
what rom and b/l you're running, yr uid and sbk and will also flash the bl and recovery for you

Sorry for not replying with results - when trying to use the "idiot-proof" tool, I supplied the world with a bigger idiot.
Somehow I managed to brick - not my tablet, but my laptop. I'm now in mourning... And looking for a new laptop.
And then I will be back to trying to fix the tablet!
(Yes, I'm fairly certain it wasn't the tool that killed my laptop, but it happened while I was using it. Can't even get to BIOS at the moment... think the motherboard fried somehow)

Does the laptop come with Girls? Mine does.
Hope you get a good deal over there. Moscow prices are horrible sometimes. And you only get HP, Apple, and Acer. And some local brands.

I've tried to do a search for this but can't find it. I'm such a complete novice I may have run across it and not even known I did. I tried to make a bootable SD to be able to use the google app store. I've seen so many instructions now I don't even know where the first one I used is. I think I used CM7 (my Nook Color is version 1.4.1...don't know if that matters). So far, nothing I've done has added the shopping cart but first things first.
Evidently I must have really screwed things up because the cyanogenmod is now on my nook instead of the SD card (which explains why I had so many problems when I tried to redo it). The first thread I found doing a google search was this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=931720&highlight=restore+to+stock.
After reading through it on the last page someone posted that it was a very old thread and to go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25354258#post25354258 and go down to 15A. But, having the technical skills of a pencil eraser, I can't even figure out which software to download, let alone how to accomplish the restoration. I actually managed to jailbreak my iphone but that was just a matter of downloading software and running it. This doesn't appear to be as simple.
I did manage to find all the files required by the first thread to do the restore, but then I got to this: Select "Restore virtual hard disk image" from the "Disk" menu. My winimage doesn't say that. I am using a new SD card so perhaps that's why. It's at that point that I read all the way through the thread to discover that method? or the firmware? was obsolete.
All I really want is to know which file(s) to download and, if possible, a link to instructions a 5 year old could follow. If I knew a 6th grader I'd just ask them because I'm pretty sure this is hard wired into their DNA. I'm 53 so that's probably half my problem. I can usually figure these things out but this has me completely stumped.
Thanks so much for your time.
You probably used ROM Manager and told it to install CWM and update to a new ROM. The problem is, ROM Manager only works on internal memory installations, not SD installations, so it installed CM to internal memory.
Don't use that old thread to flash stock back on to internal memory, even if you did find the files.
And age is not an excuse for not learning, I'm 68.
Go to my thread referenced above and download the stock 1.4.3 zip file from A15. It is linked in the text of A15.
Make a bootable CWM SD. Use that to flash the stock ROM. Download the file CWM-6.0.1.2-bootable_SD.zip and extract it somewhere on your PC. You should end up with approximately a 300MB .img file. Burn that image to your SD using Win32diskimager per the directions quoted here:
To use Win32DiskImager, find it on the web (here, it's free) and install it on your Windows PC. Open it (be sure to run it as administrator) and select the drive (device) that has your card reader with your SD inserted. Then in the image file box put the location where you have the extracted img file. Then when everything is set right, click on the write button. A warning will pop up asking if you want to proceed. When you have verified that you are going to write to the correct device, click on Yes. (One user overwrote their external USB hard drive by not verifying first). If you get an error message about access denied, it means you are looking at the drive with Windows Explorer. Close Windows Explorer and try again. In fact, it is a good idea to close all unnecessary windows when burning, even your browser.

Once the SD is burned, temporarily remove the SD from the PC and then reinsert in your PC. Then copy the Stock zip you downloaded earlier to the SD. Insert the SD into your Nook and boot. Once CWM appears, use the volume up/down keys to move the cursor and highlight "Install zip from SD". Then use the n key to activate it. Select the zip you copied to the SD. Go ahead and flash it.
When it is complete, take the SD out and boot. It should boot to stock.

Thank you, I'll try again! It's not that I don't want to learn. I'm asking because I trying to learn. I think I've probably confused myself by reading too much on too many websites and it takes me a little while to figure out technical things. I do appreciate the help. I probably just need to take some deep breaths and clear my brain so I can start over. I just want to make sure I don't really mess it up to the point it's completely unrepairable.

Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you!!! It works perfectly!
Sorry to be a bother, I don't know whether this is related. Everything loaded perfectly and it looks just as it did when I first turned it on but now every time I try to use the keyboard, it pops up for probably less than a second and then goes back down. I've tried to "catch" it to see if I could get a letter/digit each time to try and put in but it just goes up and down, up and down. I tried doing the set up with the boot disk in because I know nook reads the sd card first but that didn't help.
However, the version I originally had on the nook color was 1.4.1. Would it make a difference if I used the 1.4.3 instead?
Thanks

Did you follow the instructions in the thread where you were supposed to flash a format zip? I forgot to add that in the above instructions. It is not to late to do it. Boot to CWM and flash the format zip and boot back to stock and re-register again. That may be the cause of the keyboard problem.
And being 1.4.3 should make no difference.

Yes. Installed that as well. However, I did notice when I put the sd card in my computer a few times windows said "disk might be corrupt do you want to continue?" So that might be the problem. I'll go into town tomorrow and get a new one to see if that makes a difference.
Well, I got a new SD card and it's still doing the same thing, the keyboard just goes up and down, up and down so I don't know what to do now.
Cindie
fix it?
Did you ever get it fixed? I did (probably) the exact same thing as you did (installed flashable ROM in eMMC), and it took me hours to get it straightened out
Although I can't say for sure... since I wasn't really taking notes with what I was trying... I think what eventually got me going was using a different bootable (step 1), b/c my microsd card was an off brand (lexar 8gb).
What I did was...
1) made bootable SD card with [generic-sdcard-v1.3-CM7-9-10-larger-Rev5.zip] rather than "so&so size gb card CWR.img"
2) added [nookcolor_1_4_3_signed.zip]
Before I got it to work properly, I had various types of failures-
stuck at "n" screen,
wifi wouldnt work (so I didnt get past nook first start-up process),
appeared to work ok but screen would flash all the time (your keyboard problem)
Eventually I got it sorted, and through all this trial and error, was able to properly put CM10 on sd card whilst leaving nook "original". Lol.
*I'm a newbie at this stuff so please make corrections if I jacked my post up! This was a few days ago and I'm at work... so I can't reference my home 'puter
[Caveat emptor: adopt/follow this guide at your own risk].
FWIW, here the process I used to install CM11 internally (on emmc*) on my HD+:
Using a disk partition tool (such as MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition) create on SD card a Primary FAT32 partition, and set the partition ID type for the partition to 0x0C FAT32 LBA and set its Active flag. Once this is done, the partition should appear as a (read/write accessible) drive under Windows.
Use an archive file manager such as 7-zip and extract the .img file from verygreen’s emmc-cwm-early3.1.img.gz (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=49192422&postcount=1)
Use the archive file manager to extract the files from the .img file and copy them to the SD card: first MLO, then next u-boot.bin, uImage, kernel, ramdisk.cwm.
Copy to the SD card:
verygreen’s flashable CWM recovery zip file cwm-recovery-ovation-6.zip (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=49192422&postcount=1)
the zip file of CM11 ROM build of your choice – e.g., from http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=ovation (see http://www.cyanogenmod.org/blog/cm-11-m4-post-release-items for considerations in choosing nightlies vs. snapshot/stable builds)
the zip file of the Gapps package corresponding to CM11 – e.g., http://opengapps.org/?api=4.4&variant=nano
Put the SD card into the HD+, and boot from its power-off state.
[Optional step but highly recommended] Select Backup to backup your HD+ current ROM config (/boot, /recovery, /system, and /data).
Select Wipe data & factory reset.
Select install zip from SD card and install flashable CWM recovery zip file.
Select install zip from SD card and install CM11 zip file.
Select install zip from SD card and install Gapps zip file.
Remove SD card and select reboot.
Once the HD+ boots up, set up the wifi connectivity and your google account info.
If the Nook fails to boot off SD -- the two most common symptoms of failed SD boot and their likely causes are:
The HD+ boots straight to stock -- most likely the boot partition's type and/or flag are not correctly set, or the HD+ cannot find the MLO in the boot partition (make sure that MLO is the very first file to be copied to the freshly made /boot partition).
If the HD+ consistently boots straight to stock in spite of a valid /boot partition and boot files, it's possible that the tablet is one of those HD+ units that have difficulty booting of SD cards, see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2288688 for more info and potential remedies.
The HD+ screen stays dark for seemingly a long time then eventually boots to stock -- most likely the MLO or u-boot.bin are corrupted. When in doubt, compare the size of the two copies of the files in bytes.

What to download?
Hey Guys,
First off I really appreciate the time you take to answer my questions.
I still need some guidance however.
Again I have "Android 2.2" The last stock upgrade they updated.
So with that being said. What files should I download, and what order.
Everyone is giving me different links and i am not sure what to do.
This is my first time every doing something like this on a nook or tablet.
So please be patient with me. I would greatly appreciate it.
Should I download the cyanogenmod software first to my nook folder on my computer desktop, and then what other files do I need?
Once I download them I plan to transfer them over to a card for my usb slot that is on the bottom of my nook I am assuming, correct?
Once I have the software I need, Then I need to know what order should I install what first.
When I am doing this software installs. Do I need to worry about what is on there now.
This is nothing I need to save so I am not afraid of loosing what ever is on the nook at the moment.
All of this stuff can be let go or deleted or refresh install. Don't care.
I just want to get my table to work like a computer basically. So, I can watch the videos that i want to watch on my tablet, and still
be able to surf the net and read internet websites, you tube .com and other websites I like of course.
By doing this process this will still allow me to do this I am assuming. Again, I have never mode so I am not sure what this
cyanogenmod is or what it can do to help. I am game for trying to do it if it gets me what I want it to do.
I did see the other links posted above. I just diidn't know where to start or what to download first do to the fact I have only 2.2 android software on my nook color hd+
Again, I appreciate the advice peeps!
Please elaborate if you can with what links and what to do. Thanks again. Karl

First of all, you need to realize that installing any kind of aftermarket ROM on your android device will void your warranty with no manufacturer support.
Second, installing ROMs is inherently risky, since there is always the possibility of bricking your device.
Thirdly, any kind of ROMs that you see in the Android Development section are not completely stable; they are usable but there will be bugs & glitches. So all ROMs come with a caveat: use at your own risk!
That being said, here's how it works:
You will need three files; (a) SD Card Image (b) Recovery Image (c) ROM that you want to install.
For this purpose I am using CM11 as the example, the thread is here.
[1] Every Android device has a manufacturer installed recovery program; to install a custom ROM you need to have a custom recovery. This custom recovery is what allows you to make changes to your Android device.
[2] The Nook HD+ has the advantage of being able to boot from its SD card slot (kinda like a computer booting from a CD/DVD drive).
[3] Download the image files and create a bootable SD card. Copy the Recovery Image and the ROM to this SD card. You will need WinImage to create this card in a Windows computer.
[4] Insert this card into the HD+ and reboot your device. Here's the kicker, the HD+ may not boot from the SD card and may simply go to normal boot. If that happens you will have to keep repeating it. Check older threads about this issue.
[5] Once it boots from the SD Card, follow the instructions listed in the first post of that thread.
Brief summary (this is true for most devices): Create a bootable SD card, use this card to boot the device, install Custom recovery into the device, then install the ROM. Once you have a custom recovery installed, you won't ever have to use the bootable card again unless you run into some issues.
Good Luck!
For Hirent.
Hirent,
First off, I want to say thank you so much for the very detailed reply you sent my way.
I will use this with digression of course. I am aware of the warranty issues that it will cause.
The one major question I have before I dive into this project.
I am aware of the possible bugs and how it is not perfected.
Will this enable me to download and install flash player on a updated android that was suggested in this article you posted?
Or will it just work automatically after I do the project of these software installs. Another words I will be able to open chrome or factory
browser and go to NHL.com, MLB.com, NBA.com and other s and play the videos on the Nook HD+ Color after installs or no?
Thanks for the advice, help, and replies.

New Issue with SD Card 8gb, Centon
Hello,
I tried to follow the instructions on deleting partition on SD card. I also did get it wipe. But, the new issue is I am not able to go any further in the process.
I tried to read the card in my computer and now the card is not being recognized by windows on "my computer" It is H Drive.
IT was now its not. I deleted partition then was going to try to create the new partition. That was not highlighted on the partition magic software.
The article I was following was this.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fLbr1Uyr0sk
Now my SD card is not being recognize by windows 7 ultimate.
I also tried to do the right click trick on my computer then computer management. Then did click storage and then drive then so on.
However when I did that, only that screen recognizes my sd card before and after. But no other screens like my computer screen.
What do I do next with this card to continue. I was trying to follow that tutorial above then go to the windows disc 32 part.
Then drag the software over to start installing it on my nook. But, obviously I never got that far. Can you help me get the SD card to work again and tell me what I did wrong and what to do next so I can move forward to add CW & whatever android software will work well with flash. So I can use the other sites I mentioned in my other post.
If anyone can help I would appreciate it. I am stuck and not sure what to do next.
---------- Post added at 05:41 AM ---------- Previous post was at 05:33 AM ----------
Weird.
I just put the sd card in a usb card dongle that inserts the sd card into usb thumb drive and all of the sudden I see the drive on this computer now.
What should I do now?
Do I still have to go and do the windows disc 32 imager part.
Then drag and drop the software I need and drop in the card to my nook then install.
Or just drag software that I need like CM and Android and move forward with that.
Which should I do first. If it is the later part, which CM and Android should I use for the Nook color HD +?????
Thanks again for help and sorry about that first post, I swear it was it seeing it before. Weird.
Thanks, Karl
Google Play
I've followed all of the instructions and downloaded recovery, CM12 (cm-12.1-20160220-NIGHTLY-m7.zip), and gapps for 6.1. The system boots and I an navigate; however, Google play is not loading, when using the browser the content area becomes untouchable (touch screen in areas of the body of the page doesn't work), and there is not choice to set up a google account.
Any advice would be appreciated!

What tablet are you having this issue with?
AFAIK currently there is no CM12 nightly build yet for the Nook HD+ ("ovation") or HD ("hummingbird"). Make sure you pick the CM build specific for your device (e.g., cm-11-20160208-NIGHTLY-ovation.zip for the Nook HD+); using a ROM build for a different device can brick your tablet.

Nook HD+ and Google Play
Thanks for your quick reply. This must be the problem. I originally installed the CM11 and Google Play did not work so I went out and found another 'walk through' via the link given to me last time and thought CM12 was the right choice.
I'll go back and reformat after getting the right gapps for CM11.

Thanks, so what I did go back and reformat the sd card and start over with the early, cm recovery ovation, cm11, gapps 4.4; however, apparently I didn't unzip and copy the early correctly because after I rebooted the hd+ after going through the wipe/install process, I got an error that the setup wizard could not start. I powered off, wiped the sd card and began again following directions very carefully making sure the MLO was copied first.
Now, it seems I have somehow bricked the device because it will not power on and has only a green light when plugged in, instead of the normal amber. Any ideas of how to get it to turn on and boot to the SD again?
EDIT:
Okay, as I stated in my edit, I got it to boot, but I'm still getting the popup "Unfortunately, Setup Wizard has sopped. Any ideas?
Thanks for your time!!!

Did you do a "wipe /data & factory reset" before you flash/install the zip files of CM11 ROM and GApps?
Did the installation of the 2 zip files succeed without error messages?
I got it working after I got it to bypass the error by dragging down the menu and connecting to wifi. Once I did that I was able to set up the Google account and everything was fine thereafter. There is a bit of flickering now and then, but everything seems to be working fine now. Thanks so much for your time and help!!!
Recover Data?
Hi,
I've jut reinstalled cm11 onto my nook HD+ & realise I failed to copy a text file over before I formatted the HDD. Is it possible to recover a deleted file off the nook HDD via a PC? I've tried changing the developer option settings - Android debugging on, ADB Over Network on & connecting via USB both MTP & UMS (I think that's what they were) but when I run any of my Data Recovery programs in win7, the drive isn't recognised as an option to recover from.
Any help would be appreciated,
Thanks
