Do I need a System Cleaner? - Acer Iconia A500

Is it recommended to run a system cleaner and if so what would you all suggest?
I have the A500 model with Honeycomb 3.2 NON-rooted.
Thanks

Please don't do that. I might be wrong, but that deletes every file on any writable filesystem mounted?
Am I wrong?

Yes it is

Why would you tell someone to do this.knowing they do not understand the results
Op honeycomb Rowena good job with this.thoubsome apps do not fallow the rules.I use the free advanced task killer form the market. I set it all to manual settings. If I feel my tab is being slow I will open it and look for things running that I did not start.
Then go into those apps and change setting to not start themself.if this can not be done. OFF MY DEVICE THE APP GOES.good luck.
Advice I give is from my experience and does work.

+1 on advanced task killer. Use it every day. If your tab is slower than usual you can wipe your cache and dalvik but you must be rooted with cwm recovery

Sorry, I bought some tablets for staff. One of the users of the latest upgraded Tab to 1.4.4 says that her tablet buttons don't respond very well after the update.
She is the only one on 1.4.4, the rest are on 1.4.2
Are there any long fingernail issues? And beliwve it or not, some people are button-challenged. I would definately observe her.
Edit: Adinis78 mentioned his search button didn't work correctly in 1.4.4 -- maybe this is an issue for some.

I don't think you can use the upgrade version of 1.42 - you will have to do the wipe version, or the problem will still be there. If she has many apps, etc. remember use titanium to back up her apps and their data, but no system data.

[SRF 1.1.1/1.2.0]The Teasing, Reasoning, Thread (Development DELAYED)

Delay in SRF ROM development. I am very sorry to give this message to everyone.
"Swiss Cheese Samsprint" - aka EE03 Gingerbread
Current things i know of being implemented in SRF 1.1.1/1.2.0
- Browser fixed
- Speed improvements
- Voltage control (new kernel)
- Aesthetic Changes (as impaler call's them)
- New Wallpaper as default. (click to see)
- misc tweaks and mod's around the forum (but srf style, Like the one's listed here)
- Journaling ON/OFF versions
- CWM 3.0.2.5 compatible
Question's
- Will the new kernel have CWM3.0.2.5? and if it will be in 1.1.1 or not until 1.2.0?
- Are we getting 1.1.1 first or a whole 1.2.0? =)
Yes.

I would love if my phone's browser didn't "freeze up" when I have a low battery! Hope that'll be fixed!
One thing I don't get is why even bother to release something with journaling off? It ducks up the system during certain all too common situations. are the milliseconds that you gain really worth it?

I agree. Disabling journaling was no speed improvement that was necessary; all it really did was risk your data if your phone ever froze.
Obviously you people don't care about your phone's life span. journaling on, will make your phone read and write about 1.4x more then normal. Flash memory isn't eternal living.
But anyway. the reason there isn't one, is because it had issue's. so it was removed. If you want journaling. make a nandroid of your SRF 1.1 then restore it. OR use the on/off mod.

This method of using Nandroid to restore journaling no longer works on the new CWM, and was hit or miss on the old one.

No problem. I think the only reason it worked before was because the previous versions of CWM were partially broken.

Pros of rooting a tablet

Just got this A500, my wife also has one and hers runs much smoother after this latest update... Kinda choppy initially... But she took the ota, as she is not really for rooting and modifying.
I was considering rooting my tablet but wondered what the benefits were... I know Cell phone has wifi tether and other goodies, but I didn't really know what I would be gaining. I haven't taken any ota updates a of yet.

Performance and battery life increase, removing annoying stock apps, being able to customize the theme and boot animation, easily backup all your apps and the data for them with titanium backup, being able to use root only apps such as adblock and sixaxis (use a ps3 controller to play games). And a couple more im sure .
Ok I need the performance increase, the A500 lags slightly. the last ota gave my wifes tablet a big boost but it also changed the bootloader or something so now it requires a different rooting method.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
Overclocking and increasing the speed/performance of the A500 was my primary goal for rooting. The lag and stutter between screens and when opening programs and scrolling through menus was unbearable.
So now Im rooted, and running whatever roms I can get my hands on (totally addicted).

Almost night and day. Scrolling is so much smoother with performance scaling set and super stable running at 1504mhz on the lastest Epiphany 3.2.1 rom.
Using 2.6.36.3HoneyVillain-3.7+ kernel.
Also the security features of Apps such as LBE privacy guard - blocks permissions I don't like when I install a new app...
I don't care what anyone says, a torch app DOESN'T need to access call/sms logs, get my location, get my IMEI/IMSI or access the net....

AOKP for A500

So I just found the AOKP forums, and I have an Acer A500. I see build 28, but I don't see a thread for it. Is it safe to download the A500 version of build 28? I am also on Thor's CWM recovery version 1.7, which is CWM 5.5. Will flashing this do anything to internal or external SD storage, or the CWM installation?
There WAS one, then it was revealed that the AOKP was using Thors kernel without permission, so it was banned.

So will this overwrite my current CWM install, or format any of my SD storage? I want to be able to flash back to my current ROM without losing anything.
Personally, I'd steer clear. Last time I saw a status update on it, it was pretty unstable, would reboot on suspend unless you turned off animations, and generally pretty crap. The only part that worked properly was their donation links.
The leak-based ROM's on here, or Thor's current release, are FAR more stable.
However, AFAIK, it won't touch your recovery partition or wipe SD storage, but I can't guarantee that.
From what I'm seeing, the later builds are much more stable.

Just wanted to say I really like this slim rom - thank you very much! It's also much snappier than anything I've ever tested, ranging from stock to aosp and aokp roms, cm9 included. I'm not quite satisfied with the "density" (or how to you call that?) of the font, it's a bit too less crisp and clear for my taste. I know I could flash ics, but the font itself is more beautiful than the ics one.
What I miss:
- not being able to customize the unlock-icon
- choosing an app to unlock to results in having a very fugly icon (pixelated) displayed in lockscreen
- the sound is so much better than anything I've ever heard coming out of my tab (most of the roms were WAY too quiet/weak),
but it's still far from "punchy" and I dont mean "oooomph bass bass bass" at all
I know it's not exactly desired to give feedback but I supposed I'd add my two cents anyway
Maybe I'll add a few more things as I'm spending time with my beloved 8.9

Ah yes, it's a tough decision (JB font looks more elegant, although thinner). You can always flash the ICS font included at the OP, but I get your point. About what you miss, that's...well...out of my control, but you can choose your desired icon when customizing it (a chore looking for icons, I know, but we do have that alternative). About the sound, I also use the app Equalizer to further customize the sound. Also yes, feedback is indeed truly appreciated ! I'm glad to be of service, and even more glad this ROM is useful to someone! :good:
