Desire Z replacement springs - G2 and Desire Z General

Hi, So Im looking for somewhere that sells springs for the desire z because my hinge is starting to get worn a little bit.
Anyone know where i can get some that ship to Ireland or is there another product I can take them from?
I cant find them anywhere.
Thanks

I have looked for these as well with no luck. I have seen a howto fix that stetched the current springs to fix. But this would have to make them weaker in just doing that.
If have one out and measured might be able to order something like grainger industrial.

Whenever I find a site that posts to me they're always really expemcive with shipping coming in around at 20 euros r so its outrageous. So I really want a good spring because I think tht would make me want to keep my phone for longer

The guy is in the states, shipping costs about 13 pound all in so its expensive to ship but at least you get a spring as I have been unsuccessful sourcing one to the UK.

Glad you got the spring Bombadier.
For instructions, the movie is pretty good. I freeze framed it a couple of times but it worked out good.
One advice is to not apply too much pressure when prying the back open. I mean you do, but control it so that you do not "go through" with the tool. I read about somebody that broke through the volume switches.
Also, when you get to the spring, do not take it apart more than you need, I did inadvertently, and then I had to figure out how those hinges are put together...
The spring, as I said is twice long as needed (and then a little bit) so make sure you cut it nicely. Please read my original post. Good luck.

do you guys think it would be worthwhile to make a spacer or is the compressed space all taken up by the spring?

No need, if you don't buy the springs posted into the op of that other thread (forget who the post is by, but it has a link to the springs and a tutorial) for $4 (for three of them) you could probably find then locally for a dollar or so from various hardware store or hobby shops. Making a spacer may just be a lot of work for nothing better than a new spring. Even if you have something lying around that was near perfect it just wouldn't be worth the hassel

problem is im not in the states, and I used to be an Airsoft tech before i went back to college so i know exactly how expensive(and getting quality parts is trouble too) getting the springs are gonna be(after conversion about $20 which is way too much for springs) for the same reason I don't use ebay so if I could send someone trustworthy the money for the parts and shipping I would be most grateful

So you don't live near a major city? I mean if you don't I get it, it may be hard to find the locally. So if you are going to rule out a local online seller too I guess you could make a spacer. You would need to trim the spring down smaller and spacer would need to be a cylinder shape (like the spring) and maybe 6-10mm long. Plastic or metal, or well any other hard material. This against the old spring may help, but may also not do a whole lot.
The only problem with all this is to find the proper material, if you got something lying around that seems close you could widdle it to shape, it just seems like a heck of a lot of work for a try and try again kinda project.

For sure... i hope they are good...even if they arent... it was only 2.85 hahahaha
These are terrible. They are not properly cut. Avoid.
I got one a while ago (posted in turn Fascinate accessories forum about it). I'm only using the back part for extra grip so far. Yeah, they're not cut the greatest, but it's really not that hard to pull the apart, just might need a tweezers or something. Anyway, for the price, you can't go wrong.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
It wasn't bad for 2.85, but like they said, the back only covers the actual back and not the sides. The front was cut great but there was a defect in my front screen and it has lines running down the whole right side of the screen. Other than that it's awesome.
I really like mine, for less than $3.00 you can't go wrong. Read the instructions before you install though.

I bought the Extreme Guard ($5 shipped from Amazon) before seeing this. It works very well. My only complaint is that while it covers the sides/edges they could've done a little better getting the cut-out to get the entire surface (it covers about 98% of the back but there are small gaps on the corners where the phone curves). Overall it was a solid deal as well. I can't comment on the screen protector's quality as I already had another one on that I like and haven't felt like swapping it out yet.
I can't post links yet but you shouldn't have a problem searching for it on Amazon
Fishy...
Anybody else getting the StealthGuards website complaining that cookies are not enabled, and a little how-to guide on enabling them in Internet Explorer?
First of all, Cookies work for me on other websites JUST fine in both Chrome and Firefox. No problems. So it seems like the Stealth Guards website wants me to be using IE. ...Like I said, it feels fishy. Maybe it's just a glitch on the site for tonight.
Regardless, I'm updating my copy of MalwareBytes(.org) and running a scan. Call me paranoid. Whatever. Oh. and they have the price for the Fascinate screen protector listed as "free" right now too.
*edit* it could be just b/c I wasn't logged in yet that it wouldn't allow me to "add to cart" but every legitimate website I've gone to in the past few years has simply asked me to sign-up/sign-in after clicking add to cart.
I saw a couple other forums where people said that the website felt shady as well. I guess I'll stick with my Invisible Shield. It may have cost a lot more, but I've already used the warranty once, and I used it once or twice on my old Cowon S9 player as well.
Hmmm about those cookies
I actually did experience the exact cookie issue your referring too, however it cleared itself up when went to the website directly and did not use the provided link to the item.
The issue occurred in FFox, Chrome and IE8 which is why I got a little suspicious, but as I said as soon as went the web home as it were, the issue was resolved.

Mine took around 2 weeks as well, as mentioned it will be in plain white envelope your "not to bad of a Zagg knockoffs" will be incognito appearing as junk mail. Although getting all the bubbles out on the battery cover is difficult (as other brands may be as well) I'm sure they will work out fine.
*side note*
Verizon sales new fascinate battery covers for about 5.00$ free shipping, I ordered 2 with government discount for 8.00 shipped. I'm coating one with spray on rubber insulation like used on grips for tools. To get a good no slip grip. 8.00 at Home Depot in a spray can in flat black.

Springs for G2 keyboard

Hey guys I'm wondering if anybody that has replaced the keyboard springs in their G2 has a recommendation on where to get good replacement springs and what the exact specifications are.
I stretched mine, but if you find the loose hinge fixed thread there are several people that said home depot has a spring assortment kit that has one that fits. I would go check that threat out.

Just did it today so I am not sure how long it will last. I will get a replacement spring if it goes bad again. Honestly, taking the phone apart was way easy so you could stretch it to start and then go from there. That is what I am going to do.

It feels great, better than new. My hinge never felt this good. Although in reading other posts it seems that this is truly a temporay fix. Sound like getting a new spring is the ticket. But I am going to leave well enough alone until I start having issues again, then I will get a new spring and tear it all apart again.

Somehow "broke" my replacement digitizer - help?

The dis-assembly went rather smoothly. When I was kind of finangling to get the new digitizer on, I noticed that the actual strip had become lose. I believe this may have been caused by the heat of my hand - or perhaps it was fault to begin with.
Now looking at the circuitry and the ribbon itself, it doesn't seem like anything is broken. Would there be any way for me to adhere the ribbon back on properly in order to make my digitizer work again? I don't really have the money to shell out for a brand new one and this is a bit of a pain in the butt.
Thanks in advance.

I think it may be a fault in the replacement you ordered and should request a new one. The "heat" from your hand couldnt have done that, and if it did, that would have happened anyway because the internals of the phone would get much hotter

Perfect. The part definitely seemed strange from the get-go. The company offered me 10% off, which I don't really feel is fair if the part is actually defective.
I've linked them to this thread, so if some more people could chime in that would be absolutely great.
So the part is defective and they wont replace it free?

Threaten to get BBB involved. That's the only way I got repair universe to send me a replacement after many emails about the matter. The digitizer they sent me had the ribbon cut nearly in half. Gave me the run around about how their stuff is fully tested before leaving the site and if I could take a picture. I told them all I wanted was my digitizer and if they couldn't honor their return policy I would call BBB and report. I was given the RMA the next email.

I agree, but like you said. When you are dealing with an internet company with no supposed phone support, sometimes that's what needs to be done. Although I did eventually find a phone number for them, I didn't need to use it before they finally made it right.

The awful journey of my DZ and what should i do with it?

Hi DZ owners, I want to share a story with you:
*walloftext*
I had my DZ for about a year.
Then it was stolen one evening in a place full of people. I never thought I would see it again.
But then after about half a year I got 2 parties, which accused each other of having it.
Through intimidation on luck of one of them still having it I have got it back.
That imbecile did neither sell or use it. He just had it lying around in a cupboard as a kind of trophy, propably even smasehd it on ground some times... (And I wondered why I couldnt track it.)
Now the phone is a terrible mess. The battery was empty for a long time, degraded to not even last a day. The display (not the glass) was broken.
Then I bought a new battery and display for about 30€ replaced the display and while opening one of those small fragile connectors at the side of the board (I dont actually know what they connect, can someone tell me?), the lower one broke but I kludged it with a small piece of tape in place.
Fine everything worked, my Virtuous Unity install boots with /data as I left it.
The reading of my notes and contacts from that time really got me a nostalgia flash.
The sdcard was gone (I actually searched that guys box of stolen phones). Putting a new one in, phone mounts and stops complaining. After that I turned it off, wanting to sleep. The next day I loaded a fresh rom, QuadraSense because Virtuous Unity uses too much ram. Put it on SD and guess what? The SD (any of 5 microsds i have.) cant be mounted, not with FAT, not with EXT. Can the broken connector from the insides cause this?
But when I shake the phone the display brightness varies, (the kludged clip is not really stable) so I guess the connector is either for the display energy or the sensor but it could be multipurpose.
When I have fixed that, what will propably be the next problem with this phone?
Should I invest more time/replacement stuff into it or just buy a new one? Are there newer phones with physical keyboard?
I had a Motorola Milestone 2 for a while for really cheap but their keyboards suck because the keys stop working or stick, it seems like the existing MS2s have reached their end of life. (I have tested 4 MS2s all the same.)
I am thinking of a Galaxy Note if not keyboard. Anyone here knows about the openness and rom diversity? (I am browsing that forum right after this post so this is not just a lazyass question, more of an if someone just has the info in mind right now.)
lol at the existing tags!
sounds like the connection to the sdcard slot is damaged as well as the main flexcable as it sounds like you replaced the lcd
I don't know your situation but if it were me id find it gratifying to kick the guys ass and demand a brand new g2, but to each there own
personal opinion there isn't a better phone on the market right now than the g2/dz, at least not for my needs so it may be worth your time fixing this one
(that guy sounds like the kind of *******s that deserve very bad things)

What cell phone does this guy use? You should just take it out of his hand and tell him you're even. I did that to a guy who stole my skateboard once. HTC still cant iron out those build issues.

My misses just got her HTC ONE for her upgrade as she likes mine.
She got the black one and i noticed they still have issues with the speaker grills not sitting right.
Love my phone and its been great ( performance wise and no issues technically ) and she likes hers, but I'd have thought by now they'd have ironed out these silly issues.
She hasn't noticed it and it's gone straight into a case so she isn't bothered, I'm just surprised about this.
They're only issues if you allow them to be issues. Seriously, it's only a issue if the grill is hanging off lol
Quality control is quality control. Don't get me wrong. I love HTC. But they should get their **** together if they want to be world beaters.

When you pay for a phone that's this expensive, you should be allowed to ask for perfection.
Although i don't let it bother me, i still sometimes see the grill and wish they had fixed it.
I just got my second One and it's in worse shape than the first One. The first was actually pretty good, build wise, I exchanged it for the camera issue. Now I have a phone with a couple of build issues and the camera issue is still there. I shouldn't have returned my first One

Although I do understand where you are coming from, people put these phones together. Unless the people are perfect, there's no way the phone is gonna be perfect.
TBH, though, they're not that far off. They really aren't. I wouldnt mind but they done the hard part spot on, carve the aluminium etc etc.
It woudn't take all that much to fix the grill issue.
My phone does have a slightly rough edge to the screen and the speaker grill a the top has the gap a bit. I just think to myself, let them dry longer or, use better glue, or a bit more of it and apply some even pressure around the edges lol.
For a company that has build a damn good phone, it aint rocket science.

The one is designed and manufactured to be as thin as possible. On top of that they also implemented their 'zero gap' design. If you read some of the teardown threads, it's assembled in a way that allows zero room for error. Taking into account the fact that most people who receive a One that they consider to be perfect don't usually post about it at all, I'd say the actual defects of the one are a much smaller percentage than they appear to be on XDA.
Where HTC really impresses me is the fact that they seem to be 100% willing to warranty any device with any build quality issue. Obviously they should, after advertising a premium device with no gap and superior build quality to plastic phones. However, what major companies should do, and what they really do are not always the same. They can not promise you a perfect phone, but they are willing to replace it until you receive on that satisfies you.
Where they fail, is with that replacement device. Any mass produced product is going to have defects, and some will make it past quality control, this is inevitable. But devices going to customers who have already sent in devices due to build quality issues should have added levels of quality control, to ensure no one gets two bad phone. That would save them a lot of negative publicity.

Has anyone had some kind of glue type substance around the grills or where the gaps are. I mean why do they think they can send me this and call is acceptable. ?? Dude I'm dealing with the same issue with tmobile, it's not htc it's tmobile sending out bad refurbished models I'm waiting on my third one and then I'm giving up. They don't seem to get it that the speaker grills have glue sticking out or it looks chipped inbetween the grill and plastic. If the new one I get is the same I'm going to take pictures and post all over tmobile support advising to people thats what tmobile calls acceptable. They suggested me going eip for a new phone, they just want money and don't seem to care that I paid in full for a faulty device, my defects didn't start showing up till after the first 30 days passed, and I bet they are going to lag on the update as well, situations like this make me hate these companies and there policies, they try to sound so cheerful over the phone but they don't understand that we don't deserve to be given broken devices over things we didn't break but sadly we can't do much to over power them they will just be like "again we are sorry for the inconvenience can we send you another" they make me sick

That sucks man. When I first opened the package I saw what at first looked like a scuff. Then I noticed it on both sides of the top speaker grill. I'd say that was the worst built phone I've ever seen. The grills didn't line up, the screen wasn't flush and it looked beat up around the sides. I've never had build issues with other phones. I agree with you. If this one today is bad I'll call customer loyalty and see what else they can get me. I'm not particularly picky but I'd have to be something within the same price range. I know they've offered alternative exchanges before. I think they try not yo as much anymore. 5$ every time you exchange adds up plus they charged me 7.99 for shipping of my charger that was defective. At the end of it all I'm going to see if they'll credit me.

Customer loyalty are the reps that you get transfered to when you want to cancel . they will do almost anything to keep you with the company. They are traditionally called retention but Tmobile calls then customer loyalty. I've had them send me a brand new phone just to keep my business. Although it depends on how long you've been a customer, and I've you have credits given in the past. I used to work for Tmobile years and years ago and used to shadow these guys from time to time.

I haven't had any credits, and I've been a customer for two years but yea I've heard of retention, well I will try them if the next one is faulty again, I really don't want a different device but this stuff is just ridiculous, I have screen lift and a tiny screen leak that htc told me to be dangerous plus the camera issue

Im supposed to get mine today. Hopefully its acceptable enough for me to keep. Yeah I'd hate a different device also. There was a reason I chose this over sgs4.

Update: finally got my replacement in the mail. I'd have to say they really worked on getting me a zero gap device. Everything is aligned. No glue stocking out of the grills. No problems with the buttons. No gaps at all. Software is also running great. I was gonna call right away again if there were issues but I'm actually shocked they came through. Now to see how fast they can get 4.3 out.
