Best Custom Rom - Huawei Ideos X5 U8800

Hello,
Today i Got my huawei ideos x5. I saw many video's from people with custom roms and i want to install one on my device.
What rom can you advice to install?
Or can i better wait for the Gingerbeard update?
Thanks in advance.

depends on what u want
miui is more eye candy, oxygen is more close to stock but with several improves..
cm7 i dont know the pros and cons i never tried
but i can say to you that i installed miui on two friend x5 and mine haves oxygen

Personally I've tried a few, and like MIUI the most.
Installed it just few days ago, and everything was great beside 1 problem - battery life was unusually short!
2 things fixed this problem:
1 - I've manually decreased screen brightness to around 25%, still more than enough to use it in most conditions but low enough to preserve batteries
2 - using Clockwork mod launcher (power button + vol up held down at boot) I've gone to Advanced > Wipe Battery Stats
After doing this, the phone is better than it was when I first got it! MIUI overclocks the top speed to 1024mhz, I keep it at 120mhz > 1ghz bottom to top range, Smartass V2 power profile, when not needed I only disable GPS, Sync and all else is on - so far it's been on for exactly 24hours and battery is still on +20% (showing 24% but may not be 100% accurate).
It really feels like a brand new phone now, animations are smooth, fluid, built in browser is great, far better than stock one, the only thing to note is you will have to download and install Google Maps, Facebook, Google+ or Twitter if you wish to use these, MIUI doesn't come with any pre-installed.
Otherwise it's GREAT!

I had a samsung i5700 spica before this one, no official updates after 2.1 and we had a 2.2 cyanogenmod custom port as well as others , still I chose cm so I'm used to using cyanogenmod.
I've tried all 3 custom roms on this one and decided to use cm7.
My best advice is try all three for at least 3 days each and decide for your own since there're many things to choose from which are pretty personal.

It's cm7 by geno for me
i've tried all 3 custom rom stated above, but still always back to cm7.
But try for yourself for best experience

Okay thanks for the reply's.
What programm do i need to backup my stock software?
And how do i install custom roms on my huawei ideos x5?

you need first a recovery. search at the ideos x5 forum and you will find it. after you installed it you must turn the phone off and hold volume + and press power till the recovery appears. then you baxkup the rom at backup and restore. after that you put a custom ron at yur sd card and choose the option install zip from sd card. congratulation you flashed your phone!

[Q] Bad question: which ROM to flash?

I feel embarrassed to have to ask this, and I know a lot of people hate this type of post. I want a suggestion for what custom ROM to flash.
I started flashing about 5 months ago with Darky's ROM. And now I like my phone. ( I won't say love, because I love my parents, my children, StarTrek, BSG, hot girls, and icecream and that's it). BUT, the more I flash, the more I get annoyed with the gliches. Darky's 10.1 didn't have working GTalk (w/ Camera), and sometimes has some bugs. I lately flashed Ruyyo EDB1.1 (JVP ROM), but sometimes the phone restarts or crashes, and every 3 days or so, SOMETHING runs down the battery (meaning, the phone over-heats, acts slow, and loses all battery in 5 hours). That might be because of an app, but I think its on the rom. The main apps I use are HandcentSMS, ADW-Ex, and Multi-picture live wall paper. And Gmail (which is FCing every time I restart the phone)
Now there are so many ROMs out, I don't know which one to get. All say they are stable and fast...and I'm sure for many people they are. But I am searching for suggestins. I cannot try out many because I live in China, and because of the damn stupid retarded Great Firewall of China, all downloads of ROMs from Multi-upload are slow (and I need special software to access that site).
So...I'm looking for a ROM which is really stable, which I do not need to do a wipe-flash with and can install with CWM. I would prefer that it use the same lag-fix solution as the Darky ROM so that I can go back to it when they update ...but as I don't every actually activate the lag-fix, probably does not matter.
I'm looking for a ROM which must have voodoo sound (the ability to use my phone with my own AKG earphones without having to unplug said earphones when I answer a call is what convinced me to keep the SGS instead of getting an iPhone4... so this is critical)
I need my ROM to support live wallpapers, so that I can use my LCARS wallpaper with multi-pic.
I prefer my ROM to support the Samsung Music player with the integrated lock-screen widget.
I really prefer ROM which has the front-camera fixed and google-talk operating.
Any suggestions are appreciated.

Sounds very much like what I am looking for also. I am on Darky at the moment as well. I just want a good, fresh and 100% stable ROM.
- I need root
- Lagfix would be nice
- Needs to be able to work well with Launcher Pro Plus
- Good battery life
- BLN essential
We all need roms that are stable, fast, and with a good battery life... I think I've tried all main SGS roms, but at the end I think I'll stick with MIUI.
I liked Darky's rom, but I've got too many force-closes... maybe it was my fault because I didn't flash it correctly.
But for a month or so I've used MIUI... it's the fastest rom... You've got tons of lockscreens.. including samsung's (I think). Battery life it's not the best, but the devs are really working on making this rom perfect. For example.. for Galnet... this week 2 updates came out, and we're waiting for a big one friday.
My advice: give MIUI a try and you won't be disapointed

There are three reasons why I did not try MIUI. BUT, my reasons may be flawed.
1. In my understanding, MIUI is based on Cryogen (or something like that), which requires that I flash (wipe-flash?) a Froyo ROM first. Which means that I have to download two huge files through the Great FireWall of China. I know that's a lame reason...but that's a fair amount of work for me. Not to mention reloading all my apps.
2. In my understanding, CM (and hence MIUI) does not have the Voodoo sound and does not have the Samsung Music app. The music app is not so big a deal because (in my understanding), CM and MIUI have their own in-notification-bar music controls (which is why I like the Samsung music app). However, I need Voodoo sound in order to allow use of my own headphone while talking on the telephone.
3. In my understanding, MIUI is supposed to look like iOS, which I do not like.
Please let me know if my understandings are wrong.
I also didn't try it because I don't want to flash an updated version twice a week. I want a good working ROM from the start with no need to update until the next Android version comes out.
I am oso on darky's rom previously but having same issue. Then tried Tweaky's rom and Juwe's rom too. Juwe's rom is fast but its bit dull colored and lack of sgs2 apps like Tweaky's rom.Now I am using my own rom base on JVP with Talon kernel with OC, actually it's a mix and match of Tweaky n Juwe's rom. Everything is working so far with some sgs2 apps, tw4, gtalk with video call.Flash n wipe is a must for a start. If u r interested I can post a link for u.

CM7 (CyanogenMod7) has Voodoo Sound for sure, even Voodoo Colour. BLN should also be possible with a custom kernel.

best looking rom, fast and reliable its galnet mui. Battery life it;s not great yet but galnet its working hard to fix.
i think that after flashing couple of roms you will decide.
My advice: Juwe's Smart Edition v5.0 XXJVP .... he have all what you need .... and much more

I'm gonna go with that. What's the best way to flash from Darky 10.1? Disable lag, wipe, flash official and then juwe?

Exactly. Just diable lagfix, full factory reset and finally flash Juwe's ROM with CWM.

I tried most of these roms. I tried to play dungeon defenders with some roms. Holy.. that was very laggy and and unplayable. Now I'm on MIUI 2.2 rom. I tried dungeon defenders again. Wow.. Smooth and smooth... all FPS are X2 on quadrant. My device clock is 1600 mhz max as default as miui. Sometimes it stucks and restarts. But galnet works really hard. And battery is not the best ok. But thats worth it. You can download different themes with theme manager. Also there is an air update app for muiu. Which updates your device latest miui. I l
will stick with that..

i m using galnet miui also
but the updates is too fast for me to chase
i came from mcgv5.3 to miui 2.2 without going thru mcgv 7.6
personally wat i think miui lacks off is the slide to call or sms from contacts and phone calls there

Why factory reset? Why not just do no-wipe flash with CWM?
Part of my problem is that there are a lot of ROMs, and if I'm wiping everytime I do a new ROM, its takes quite a while to restore to full functionality...albiet the end result may be more stable.

So you are saying that you had better battery life with others, and MIUI sometimes gets stuck, but you like MIUI because its faster for games and themes? That's not really what I need (although I do like the notification options I saw on it has). I am more not into this because I'm not into having to Flash back to Froyo in order to install.

Hearing this, I'm tempted to bite the bullet and go through the CM7 install proceedure. I then will have to upload the google apps and the new google talk. But the end result may be pretty cool (assuming does not drain battery more than other ROMs). Thanks for the info.
MIUI rom doesnt stuck and restarts as your think. Battery life is not horrible. You can control your headset in miui with different module like voodoo sound. I think thats the best rom to stick now. You can get air updates and you dont need to wipe your data for updates. Just give it a try. I guess you will like it.

Thank you. I don't think it gets stuck. Its just that you said in previous post "Sometimes it stucks and restarts." I may try this out. I think I'm going to wait and see what this JVQ-based ROM is like before I do any ROM which requires a wipe.
Slightly off-topic...About my phone...I'm not sure, but I think sometimes the heavy battery drain and restarts are caused by Handcent SMS. I downloaded an app called "OSMonitor" It showed that sometimes Android System is continuously using 40% of CPU, and at those times, Handcent is using 50% of CPU. I guess I should delete Handcent and see if my phone gets better stability and performance. Seems maybe the stability problems were might be blamed in the wrong place. BUT...I really like Handcent...
I'm in a similar situation and decided the only way to get what I want is to put it together myself. This also means you probably wont have the latest and greatest because they might be cool but not always the most stable.
What you can do is, get a deodexed stock rom, install a stable kernel with the mods you need (voodoo, bln, rooted and busybox etc) than use Titanium backup to remove all the things you don't want. presto, you'll have what you wanted...
I think the best option is CM7.
Greetings.
I have CM7 and must re-charge every 8h... Moderate use. Are other ROMs better battery-wise?

[Q] CM7 vs. MIUI

As both CM7 and MIUI have really matured over the last weeks and samsung is still not able to get to develop a stable gingerbread version I think its time to have a deeper look into the alternatives. What do you think, what is the best solution for the sgs right now? please also post experiences, but really valuable I guess are only experiences with current CM7 or MIUI versions!
Best
Tobi
Samsung gingerbread is as stable, or more, than CM7/MIUI, meaning none is 100% stable, what is your problem...
Samsung roms are better for now
All of them has a special thing...
Now I am using Gelnet Miui rom and it is fantastic an also stable!
You should try it
cm7 and miui are both very fast, even with lagfix on samsung roms you can see minor lags but...
cm7 and miui have bugs that made me go back to samsung custom rom.
the camera does not work even regular picture looks bad sometimes, battery drain in cm7 is also worst than any bug samsung has, if the camera and the battery does not bother you so you can give it a try.
another reason i go back to samsung rom is the brightness change from the notification bar and the swype left for calls in contacts or logs (very usefull while you are driving).

thanks, but may I ask, when you tried out CM7? Ive read, that bettery is now even better lightly than with Sams FW and apparently the camera issues have also been fixed, at least by GALNET...for the swyping contacts i suppose there are alternative contacts apks?

I've just joined CM7 and have had slightly better battery power and no camera issues at all. I'm really impressed with the whole package. I can't imagine going back to stock ROM. Everything is stable and fast.

CM7 is very stable on my phone, better than last official ROM, so I keep it.
I installed both of them on my phone. CM7 had radio problem which didnt work (although there are CM7 radio patch which could be flashed). MIUI had a problem with getting network. Kept getting SOS signal only. Tried flashing 2-3 different MIUI roms and all of them had this problem of no network. Think since there are so many custom roms based on official firmware out there, it makes sense to install them over CM7/MIUI.

are you serious? that sounds awesome, if someone could pls confirm that! the last time i tried miui/cm7 i could just survive the day with massive undervolting and custom kernels which was simply put inacceptable for daily use.. using the same voltage settings on stock roms give me more than 3 days, same usage pattern.

I am using CM7 and battery life has improved but dont expect more than 1 1/2 day,
If battery life is your major concern then stick to the one you are happy with
i don't like that my Android seems like an iPhone... no no.. Miui is not for me, it's just a copy (according to me, design is too similar...)
thank you for the pointless thread, which opens a discussion that leads nowhere!
It is similar to the iphone but just think of it as way more customizeable ; im on miui right now and i couldnt be any more satisyfied; lol its gotten so better that their going to make a miui phone... thas something

and i can say cm7 is by far the superior rom out there
BUT
besides all the people always telling battery gets better and this might even be the case but the batt is still VERY weak
no comparison to stock rom
I mount the CM7, but now I also had the MIUI, I think the CM7 is better, speed, performance and stability
I tried the latest cm7 nightly a couple weeks ago. It was interesting, but definitely wasnt as smooth and polished as jvq. It also crashed a couple of times. Went back to jvq which I'm happy with for now.

Elelinux Speedmachine v5 issues

Hello,
since I cannot post in development yet I will post some issues with Elelinux v5 here. Used v4 before and it was the fastest rom I used.
1.) battery drains faster - probably kernel related
2.) v4 was more responsive (done full wipe before install, disabled animations)
3.) incoming call lockscreen is moved to far left i believe, anyway it's not normal and it looks pretty ugly
as for other things, this is very stable and fast rom (although not as fast as v4 for me)
1) Maybe, it seems OK, but I haven't used it for long
2) really? I did a full wipe as well and it seems all good to me
3) Yes, that is an issue, but I'm pretty sure Ele is aware of it
1.) battery life seems better now, after full discharge, reseting battery stats and full recharge
2.) just an opinion, but then again I restored all apps using Mybackup so maybe that's just my wrong step
3.) nothing to add I wrote that because i only saw one mention in development sections so I thought I was the only one beside that member suffering from same problem
P.S. Habarug , using your theme and absolutely love it

Thanks But I restored apps with MyBackup as well (apps + data) so that's not the reason. v4 was probably pretty slow in the end at my phone since I had used it for a long time and modded the system a bit so I had probably messed up something v5 still seems ultra smooth, though
well, I installed a lot of apps I don't really use..
I will do a clean install without backup, start all over and install only apps I need before I blame this fine ROM for my faults
There's something that doesnt feel right about it, don't know if its false feelings created by imperfections like the lockscreen etc. I felt the same way when v4 was released!
anyway, anyone drawn any comparison between flykernel 13 and las venturax 6.2 using this rom?
Using the camera with LV 6.2 kernel causes the phone to crash quite frequently while trying to take a picture, have not tested video recording yet.
But have switched to fly13 and it has not crashed while taking a picture yet, but i have only tried it twice
Made a switch to flykernel13 and been using it for a while now.
It feels more responsive
Battery life definitely better.(recharged yesterday from 33 % after 3 days of average use)
Actually ROM runs perfectly now (only issue is call lockscreen , I can live with that)
Thanks for ur review about the kernel, i'll try flashing fly 13..
Habarug, nice theme..
Edit: Wooowww! So fast!! Many thanks...

dhd

anyone can tell for a perfect rom for dhd fully functional
Start here or here.
It's best you choose and try for yourself. Check out some screenshots too from the rom threads for style/experience ideas. Plus a couple of screenshots in my sig.
I've tried most of the ROMs in the devs section and I have to say that the Virtuous Unity ROMs are the most complete for me. It looks the business, runs fast and efficiently, and is 99% fully functional from first boot. The 1% left over is the best part about it though as this is fixed with patches almost instantly showing true commitment from the ROM developers and supporting devs in the very pages of this forum. The additional patches sometimes available not only fix problems but help improve the VU experience itself, ie, bulletproof tweaks.
Hopes this helps!

Ive been running cyanogenmod7 on and off since i first rooted (about two weeks ago) ive tried MIUI amd a couple of sence roms. leedroid and er3bus by jsl but keep going back to CM7
i think im going to stick with CM7 for now.
Best thing to do is just flash a few and see how they go for you. Everyone is different everyone likes different things.
fully functional, including dolby mobile and camera is deffinatly Revolution HD 5.2.6 and 6.1 except the small camera bug.
I am using 6.1 now...
I'm really into MIUI at the moment. (1.8.26 because 1.9.26 has an Android Market crash bug for some people.) It's quite a different visual experience all the way through.
I especially like the Launcher transition effects (cube), the option of up to 9 homescreens, the style of the popup windows, plus links to cool wallpapers etc. The only thing I didn't like were the ringtones so I installed the CyanogenMod ones.
The first time I tested it - I wasn't into it. I was CM7 for a long time.
EDIT: The Android Market bug mentioned above is actually addressed and quickly and easily fixed as per the FAQ.
`Just go to Menu > Settings > System > Language & Input Settings
And change your language to English (United States)'
+1 MIUI was the ROM that I was on for the longest of time. The support of the community is huge and there is an update every friday so you dun really need to check out the forum every now and then to see whether an update is out
It is a very stable ROM for everyday use and the newest version' kernel should be quite battery friendly as I am getting 2ma drain on standy which never happened before (Previously it was 4ma) and this is with WIFI + 3G + facebook + google sync on every 15 minutes.
Funny I just set my phone up with miui yesterday just to give it another go. I'm really liking it so far. (Don't think I'd fully set it up the last time before ditching it.)
I'm not a fan of the ringtones tho how did you install the CM7 ones?

Yeah I was the same - I don't think I set it up and gave it a chance before when I tried it.
To get the CM7 ringtones - download the CM7 rom (which is just a zip/archive file). Double click it to open it and go to system - media - audio - ringtones. Copy any or all of the ringtones you like.
Then on your phone - SD card - MIUI - ringtone - paste the ringtones.
Then you have a cool phone, rom AND ringtones.

Got it sorted. Thanks man.

I took MIUI off again. I charged my phone on Saturday night took it off charge about 8 on Sunday morning and by lunchtime had 50% battery, I'd only sent 3 texts and made one phonecall (which didn't connect) it could have been leedroids kernal as I was trying it out too but as for now I'm back with CM7

Looking for stable ICS ROM as daily driver

Hi guys,
I've been a longtime lurker here, and avid Android fan for sometime now every since I purchased my Nexus One. I've used CM and MiUI and all, but now am looking for a stable ICS ROM which can be used as a daily use ROM with ICS.
I'm currently on MiUI 2.3.2 (tried 2.3.9 but it seems to really be very unstable for me) which seems to work fine if not for the random reboots and errors from time to time, not to mention I can't seem to get the SD to mount when the cable's connected to my PC.
Long story short, which ROM would you guys recommend? I'd love to have CM, but since they're not supporting ICS versions for the N1, I'd have to live with others.
(if I'm just repeating earlier threads, please feel free to point me there and perhaps we can close this thread)
Thanks!
TexasIce or MeDroid
Both roms are in an alpha stage but quite stable and good enough as a daily driver for weeks now.
Medroid:
- More "Cyanogen"
- A bit faster and a bit more stable (imho)
TexasIce:
- "vanilla experience"
- Awesome kernel work
Thanks Pommes.
I was leaning towards Medroid myself, but seems like there's some controversy/drama going on there with the dev, and was wondering about the continuity of it.
As I've not blackrose-d my Nexus One, I'd assume that's something I'd have to do first, yeah? I've no need to be bleeding edge in terms of updates, but just would like to have my phone being able to update and not random reboot from performing any number of things.
Samuaz's laptop is dead and zyrex tried to sell the ROM, but Samuaz later posted the link to download it. Mods have locked all of his ICS threads, even the medroid discussion thread I created. The future of that ROm is very dim, but Timbit (and possibly Zyrex) try their best to continue its development here: http://code.google.com/p/nexusone-medroid-ics/downloads/list
dk_zero-cool is a notable developer for the HTC Bravo (Desire) and has made a very good ICS ROM for it. It seems to be based on CM9. He doesn't have a Nexus One to develop on, but since the Desire and Nexus One are practically twins, it shouldn't differ that much.
Texasice is another development god when it comes to bringing ICS for us in his/evervolv team's version. It's not stock ICS or CM9, it's their "remix" of it which looks really nice.
As far as I'm concerned, these are all daily drivers, depending on what you need for a days use of your Nexus One. If you absolutely must have a fully working camera, then none of these ROMs are daily drivers for you. If you accept that there are bugs and that the camera isn't working 100%, then all of these are daily drivers. I personally recommend either texasice's version or dk_zero-cool's version.
I saw dk zero's so smooth and working camera preview now
Sent from my ICS Nexus One
There's also MIUI ICS that's stable enough. Haven't yet flashed camera fix patch recently released upon that rom, but I heard it can fix camera preview too.

Thanks for this feedback, trying to flash dk zero's version now, having to Blackrose my device first which mean I have to flash a non ICS version as I can't USB mount my phone.
Quite an adventure just to have to work around as I had did a full phone wipe and lost my recovery in the process, in addition to MiUI reset wipe which seemed to have hung and I had to remove the batt to get it restarted.
Just set the custom blackrose partitions and hopefully can start flashing dkZero's version with hopefully a working camera preview as you've mentioned!

Thanks for the update, however after all the issues I've had with MiUI the last week or so and then switching from 2.3.2 to 2.3.9 and having to restore back to 2.3.2 as the latter was too messed up on my device, I think I'd rather wait till there's a more advanced RC or stable version before attempting to flash it again.
Not to mention, I'd forgotten why I'd shy-ed away from MiUI in the past, too iPhone-ish of a UI (yeah a change of launcher might help, but I'll give this other ROM a try)
I've been using medroidmod daily - however the microphone isn't working anymore (for the past two days) - so I'm struggling to rebuild it.
I have so far been unable to get Bravo ICS to install. I have blackrose with 16mb cache partition, and m2sd packaged with Bravo is not redirecting it to SD no matter what i do, and 16 is not enough for ICS.
At this point i am tempted to go to CyanogenMod 7.2 - daily struggle with ICS is wearing me out.
DK's is AWESOME....best ICS for N1 and its not close.....super smooth and great battery

Of all the ICS I think texasice rom is good one as its stable but as theshawty mentioned it gives vanilla experience. DK's rom is more inclined to CM9 and its just cool. Got into bootloop initially but after tweaking settings in memory management, I dont get any reboots. Battery is good and rom is smooth. You can try dk IMHO.
If you want something stable, do NOT use ICS. Simple.
Ive used both medroid and bravo, I think medroid 1.4.2 was very stable with alot of customization, I didn't personally have problems with the mic but I know others did, and Ive also used Bravo so far it has been fantastic for me so far, the dev behind it aswell is very responsive and gets things fixed quickly, the only draw back is the lack of customization between bravo and medroid, I just feel like i'm missing 80% of the options and tweeks i'm able to do with bravo.

Well, texasice's ICS and dk's are surprisingly stable.
Medroid 1.44 is smoth and stable. It already includes the last camera fix and a few other updates.
Non-HWA ICS Roms where always stable for me.
On HWA Roms I always had sleep of dead issues(phone freezing a few times a day), but I'm running Medroid 1.4.3(with camera preview fix flashed) now for a few days without problems.
HWA uses a lot of memory, so that could be a problem in the long run.

Well, I was on CM7.1 for what seems like an eternity (used to switch ROMs quite frequently at one point) but figured its time to test drive some ICS stuff and as long as it isn't constantly random rebooting, and crashing. Its stable enough for me!

yeah, trying to get dk's ROM installed on my N1, just having to work through some issues I'm facing which is messing up with the install.
You should use 4ext, then you don't have any install problems.
Bud I had problem s after recover all my apps. Only dalvik and cache wipe has cleard this problems (endless boot without cache wipe?!)
BCM is very smoth but without the stock email app (i need exchange for my job) it is not realy usable. After install it (stok email app, not gmail), i had a huge battery drain. Charge via USB was not possible (whats wrong!!!), battery is discharging...
Then I went back to medroid 1.44. Medroid is not so smoth like BCM (why not???) but with Nova Louncher (not with stock) it runs very well. The best ist ScreenState works realy but you have for both cases set the CPU governor to SMARTASSV2 (or onother stats but whitout ondemand, that is very bad)
BCm is very very smoth, like CM7, but batterie drain on my phone was frightening!
An other problem is wlan, higher than channel 11 seems not to work (i had test channel 12 to 13, channel 9 does not work also, all othed channels are busy)
PS. I have unfortunately not possible to post in the corresponding post.

There is a fix for battery drain in BCM ROM. Review this post for a file FOTA kill http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23951371&postcount=202
TexasICE's ICS ROM is the most stable, there is a camera patch floating around. You may flash both of them and enjoy ICS without missing any feature.
