I'm contemplating on purchasing the Nexus One. I want to make sure I make the right decision. I don't want to fork out $600 then to find out later that a new better device will be released.
So, anyone know of upcoming phones this year on par or even better than the Nexus One?
Much appreciated.

I have heard there is going to be a enterprise version with full physical Keyboard.....they are stills rummors, but you can wait a little more and see if its true.
Also, there is the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10....8.1MP Camera, 16x Zoom, 1ghz snapdragon processor, 4" AMOLED screen...and its going to be out in the near future (1 Quarter of 2010). Its a great device.
It all depends on what your definition of "better" is. Way too subjective for a good answer from anyone here.
The nexus one doesn't have a physical keyboard. That's a deal-breaker for me, so in my opinion, at least, it's not better than my G1 or CLIQ.
Even in our crappy US market, though, there will be more powerful phones every year. Some will have features you like. Others not. If you're with T-Mobile, keep an eye out on tmonews.com. They usually have new phones and rumors of new phones long before some other sites do.
There is a leaked roadmap from HTC. I like the Bravo model over N1 because of the "Touch-Scrollball" - so there is less a chance to wreck it if you lay the phone frontside.
But, of course there always will be something better...
The HTC Bravo is pretty much the Nexus one with an upgraded camera (it does 720p recording) so technically is a better model.

yea I saw that...my issue with the Bravo is the lack of a trackball or optical pad, directional pad...its not always easy to select specific links and I feel those make it a lot easier to manage.

It has an optical pad or something to that effect (it doesn't look like a "pad" but that's what it's being put down as in the specs)

Wow, this phone might be better than the Nexus One, IMO. It seems like it's coming out at the end of March to T-Mobile as well.

All those rumors have since been proven wrong...
Coming out in APRIL on VODAFONE:
http://shop.vodafone.co.uk/shop/mobile-phone/sony-ericsson-x10?serverName=managed3
(Don't see why it would come out in march on one network then april on another it makes no sense, no network would sign a 1 month exclusitiviy deal).

How about next year, around March/June...?
That makes sense, let's see what unfolds in the coming months. Can't wait, I'll hold off buying the Nexus One for now.
The Engadget review of the X10 is great content.
Also, the HTC HD2 coming to T-Mobile is a mighty contender as well. But I'm not too keen on the Windows Mobile 7 OS. Wished it was Android.

I have no intentions of getting the Nexus One, whatsoever! Trust me, by the time the year ends, phones are gonna be murders. Like we went form crap phones, to the iPhone, and then the rocket flared upward after that.
you're afraid of buying a nexus one - but why ? you pay $600 for one, and a new phone comes out next month, so you sell the N1 for $550 and buy that other one.... or wait longer and still sell the N1 for $550...
hardware has ALWAYS been this way. there will always be a better/faster/cooler product released. hard to beat the G1's keyboard and stuff, but it will be beaten.
just buy the N1, and enjoy it. you're not promised tomorrow
Wait Until either the rumored nexus one with keyboard comes out (or at least see if it is real) or wait until the HTC Bravo comes out (it is a GSM device so it doesn't matter if it goes to the carrier your not on, you can just unlock it)
The Bravo is identical to the Nexus One in specs. Yes it has 512 mb of ram not the rumored 320 mb of ram. But Bravo has HTC Sense on it and you know those people with the nexus one will try to get a fully working Bravo ROM that is working at full speed.
I'm sure when the Bravo comes out and it gets rooted someone will make a Nexus One 2.1 ROM so you can get the best of both worlds
Guys someone said the X10 does 720p? Well this is copy pasted from google.com/phone
"Video captured at 720x480 pixels at 20 frames per second or higher, depending on lighting conditions"
That is 720p isn't it?
It will be a long time before android phones start releasing anything better than a 1ghz snapdragon, not to mention that most of the other 1ghz android phones are only packing 256 ram.
To who ever said the Bravo will have 512, im pretty sure that is unconfirmed but it is possible.
Xperia10 looks like trash, its still stuck on 1.6 which also means they had to go with a lcd 65k colour screen.
If you want the HD2 in android flavor you could wait for the Supersonic
Best choice i think though is Bavo or Nexus One
@ Above:
It's the Bravo that does 720p recording and 720p is 1280x720
The Bravo has been confirmed to have 512mb ram. When you look at it it's the exact same as the Nexus in terms of size and shape etc (apart from trackpad and physical buttons) so it makes sense it has similar internals.
The X10 isn't trash. It's running 1.6 but will get a (Confirmed) update to 2.0/1 soon after launch. Timescape looks awesome and just as good as Sense UI (needs 5 homescreens though). It also has a 4.0 inch screen.
To me it's down to the Bravo or the X10. Purely because I need an instore purchase. I will almost certainly get the Bravo unless one of them ends up on o2 and I will then get the o2 handset.

There has been rumours that it will be released with 2.0, which would make more sense and could explain the repeated delays with the release date. But yes, as you said, even if it is released with 1.6 SE have confirmed a 2.0 upgrade for it.
As my contract ends in june, i just hope the X10 is available on t-mobile by then, my G1 is starting to get a bit battered
Also, Sony Ericsson phones have always had the best cameras and have always been great for music. I had a SE k750i a while back, which was an absolutely amazing phone.
I'm excited that the N2 could feature a keyboard, but then it might be by motorola which makes me go iffy, maybe I"m just pro HTC,
Im already saving for a SE X10....
HTC HD2 looks really nice, but no Android...deal breaker for me.
Hiya, im going to be replacing my htc hero with a new phone pretty soon, and im stuck in-between two phones, the htc desire z and the iphone 4.... heeeelp im not sure which one to buy, i like the resale value of the iphone and iv had an iphone before my htc hero, but then again, android is growing and it has a keyboard which im interested in.
so anybody got any suggestions? thank you
I'm going to go for a Desire Z
+1 on Desire Z
Btw, why are you replacing your Hero? On a plan or wanting specific features?
I dont think any1 on this forum would day iP4
+1 Desire Z
see my parents are on a plan, and they don't care about their phones, so my brother and i take them
of course we still pay for the phone itself, so i switch the sim cards, from a bill pay (monthly plan) to pay as you go (top up by €20 credit whenever i need it and buy more when it runs out) so i am very lucky, and my dads plan is coming up to renewal so i might aswell buy the Z, rather than him use it up on a really cheap phone when i could get the Z for €120
so i could get the desire Z or iphone.
The hero is getting old now, especially compared to the newer generation phones such as the desire Z itself.
Out of the two, desire z; although I prefer the desire hd. That said I've just upgraded to the Samsung Omnia 7.

Just ordered mine tonight
Got an amazing deal, should be here on tuesday
yeah im liking it too, the screens amazing on the iphone, but i dunno, is the loose hinge a fault or just something that comes with the phone because thers a few that dont have the problem
Well I recently upgraded to the desire Z due to contract renewal, (I never even considered the ip4) but I was a bit iffy on getting the Desire Z, as I never thought I'd use the keyboard, but it was the most appealing phone out at the time so went for it anyway. Needless to say I love it, and I don't think I'll ever go back to a keyboardless phone again! No matter how good an onscreen keyboard may be, I don't think it could ever replace a real one (And that's only after a month of having the phone!) It looks amazing, much better than the now generic looking ip4, and more classy than the samasung phones. Build quality is good too, feels very solid. The loose hinge (I wouldn't call it loose) isn't a problem, in fact if you never heard all the reports, I doubt you would have known about it, as it's just when you hold it in really weird ways that you'll notice it, and to me it felels very snappy when I open or close it, so imo, nothing to worry about there. As for the screen, I wouldn't worry about the ip4s 'super amazing magical' display, put it next to the hero and it looks like you've just upgraded from a tube tv, to a HD one! And I thought the Hero had a decent screen xD And next to the ip4, you barely notice the difference, imo the Galaxy S phones have the more impressive screen (just 4'' is too big for my liking). Other than that, great phone all round, and you'll have plenty to play around with the new HTC sense, and all the custom roms. So I'd say go with the Z.
Bro htc hero runs smooth with root. If you just want to change hardware for newer phones just say that. To me htc hero is good device, iPhone 4 sucks..
I have three android devices if i didnt have Motorola Droid & HTC Hero i would say desire Z.
But Droid does more then Htc desire Z minus the memory internal storage problem, that can be solve by having A2SD partitioned .
But go with android.... I hate apple products.

I went from a Hero to a DZ,.... specifically for the h/w keyboard,... my other half has a desire, if I didn't want the keyboard I think I would be happy with that rather than the IP4 which my pal has. Definitely HTC with Android all the way baby.
Even taking into consideration HTCs dismal update history with my Hero, it is a non issue with the support on XDA.
Also, just a thought guys, but 'I hate Apple products' isn't very helpful to someone deciding on a new phone. I admit I'm not a fan either (who on xda is?!) But at least back it up with reasons as to why.
I am going to buy a Desire HD.
Don't go for the iPhone 4. The desire range is much better, and in any case the iPhone 5 will be out in a few months...
In spite of owning a Hero and totally bumming android I never really went down the "eww apple" route. Mainly because i'd had no experience of apple's products.
For xmas i was gifted an iPod touch 4G. Its smooth as hell. The quality and range of games is far superior to android based phones too, at least in my experience. It really depends what you want the phone for. I'm sure the Desire Z is really nice, but there's no denying the iPhone is too.
I honestly don't know which way i'd go. Games - iPhone. Keyboard - DZ. Could it be that simple?
I have a Hero at the mo but won't be getting another HTC device. Galaxy S II or LG Black for me
iPhone's are quality, but the lack of flexibility of what you can do with them puts me off.
My next device is an Android with a hardware keyboard. I think the Motorola Milestone (2).
Never again a phone with a on-screen-keyboard!
So, if I were you: The Desire Z
The next phone after a HTC Hero should be a Desire HD, however that's been out since November and is old hat. I got the HTC Hero because it was the first Android phone in the UK so I'm waiting for the LG Optimus p920 3D (hopefully a UK April launch) as it'll be the new tech on the market.
The iPhone is quality, but the problem with it, called iTunes drags this phone down. You are so locked...too much.
The next phone for me is either an HTC dual core or the LG Optimus with the Tegra2 chip (dual core). Be aware that the black edition is single core.

Hey u can buy a I-Touch instead , And i will choose Desire HD / Z (I love DHD , great graphics! , powerfull processing)
Morning!
Not that I am one to dance on graves or imply than someone is 'gettingonabit'....but the inevitable truth is that our little Hero's have been overtaken by newer, faster and more powerful models with smaller chins.
So with upgrades, including mine, looming I'm asking... What handset will be next? Why that handset? Or will you be waiting for something even shiniererer to come out?
I for one am being drawn to the Desire Z although I'm not that keen ok it's looks. My ideal would be an Android version of HTC 7 Pro.
Ever since I was literally mugged of my T-mobile Vario, I've really missed a physical keyboard. I'm also hoping for something with a decent battery life, so the Desire HD has fallen like Naomi Campbell in high heels and is out it the running straight away.
Look forward to your replies, peeps!

I'm starting to look around a bit right now too! My upgrade isn't due until about July, but figure unless some nice new phones come out in the next few months (which is highly likely, and they will probably have a price to boot), most of what I'll be looking at on contract is out now!
Desire HD - I like the power but not too keen on the size.
Desire Z - I like the size but it has an 800MHz CPU which is probably ample for my needs.
Galaxy S - I really like HTC Sense, infact it pains me I use a custom ROM on my Hero because Sense is just too slow for me.
I'm even considering a W7 phone - maybe, but I really love the customisability, and geekyness of the Android phones !
my next handset doesnt quite exist yet. I'll retire the hero when I see, dual core, notification light and either a slide out keyboard or a screen above 4.1 inches .. Im hoping htc will bring it.. think I will avoid moto almost regardless as I enjoy custom roms which have kept my hero fresh, to be honest Im upgrading because I cant type easily on the smallish screen/ with lack of physical keyboard.. love the phone otherwise
I decided to take the plunge to WP7 and bought a HTC HD 7 on O2 pay as you go ..as I had never used a Winmob phone before
I love the Big screen and gaming is good although pricey
The phone has problems with the sound and camera but otherwise is a lovely phone
Also being WP7 the apps are slowly trickling in so have to be patient.
My Hero is due for upgrade around 2 months time
so the options I am thinking about are
LG Optimus 2x - Dual core
Motorola Atrix - Dual Core
Nexus S - all for the love of google and front facing camera
Samsung galaxy S - front facing camera
Desire HD - or if Htc comes with any new phones
Nokia N9 - If its worth it
Nokia N8 - Was a nokia fan all along untill Htc came up
Iphone 4 - ZZZzzzzzzzz
I hope HTC seriously comes out with New phones or even Nokia love them hardwares
With MWC in a couple of weeks, you'd be crazy to make any decisions now
The Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc has also, today, just taken my interest too! Due for around March/April release, looks nice, has Android 2.3 and a descent camera by the looks of things!
I have no idea but defently a HTC. Easy rootable
I am waiting to see which phone takes Feeyo
My next handset doesnt exist yet
I want something the same size as the HTC Hero.
Bigger battery (1800amps+ would be great!)
1ghz ish (Not dualcore!)
dedicated gpu would be nice but dont care too much.
I dont care how fast it is (rooting can always get them faster ) but I want the battery to last well before I root. That way it will get even better!
Also with a good Dev community... In fact put that to the top of the list after the past 2 days clusterfuck.... >_>

Heh, heh. I know you probably made an honest mistake but damn... I would love a cell phone battery with 1800 Amps! It would last FOREVER.
At work I do testing of electrical utility grade equipment. Our 2000 Amp transformers are so heavy I can barely move them.

galaxy is beautiful gadget
epad is slow and bad touch. epad is helpful mostly big.

best is galaxy with games!

Hi. Hero is my first android device. I am using it for more than a year and I have started to think about replacing it with something new. First of all I want to say that hero is a brilliant device and I am very happy that I have bought it in september '09. Secondly, I expect from my next cell to have a bigger screen with a bigger resolution, better CPU, more memory and ... a camera flash light.
The DHD is a very nice looking device but it is too big and the battery is weak.
Galaxy S is too shiny and plastic, but the gaming performance and speed is WOW! However it is a Samsung and I have bad memories with them.
So a perfect replacement for my Hero would be the Desire, but .... Motorola and LG are making a big performance leap forward with their dual-core devices. So buying now a Desire wouldn't be smart, cause in a year's time it will probably be like my current hero (quite good, but with many limitations).
So I am looking forward to MWC where there will be announced a replacement for the Desire and I think that will be my next android device.

@zagielek
You took the words right out of my mouth!
Something I am looking for in my next phone is ANT+ compatibility. Sony Ericsson is the only one announced so far, but I am not keen about them. A samsung or a HTC would be nice. I'm on my 4th HTC at this stage.
Well following MWC nothing really grabbed me.
There are three phones around that I would consider but:
Desire Z: is just a bit crude design wise for me; two tone grey, patches of metal etc. Plus the spec will quickly get dated.
Pro 7: Nice tough looking phone but Windows OS. I would actually consider it but just can't see it having the flexibility and apps of android.
Nokia E7: LOVE the form of this handset. If the little green android was running it I would get it in a heartbeat. But sadly it's Symbian, although a new version, I'm really not sure I'd be happy.
So generally feeling at bit miffed- right handset with wrong OS or wrong handset with right OS.
Might have to consider giving up the keyboard

I'm thinking Nexus S or Galaxy S2...
One thing for sure is this time I'm not tying myself up in a 24 months contract...
In a lot of cases it can work cheaper taking a monthly rolling contract (costs vary between £10-£20 instead of your general £35) and then buying the phone separately. With this option I would however have to downgrade my ambitions...
I could always go for a Droid X HD10 lol...
im going to get a galaxy s 2, really wanted htc to bring out a new device to compete with samsung and lg's new phones
Still looking out for what my next handset it's going to be.
Hopefully, it will be lot's of fun (that is, not bored) like Hero, where there's lots of community forum support and plenty of ROMs available from developers every few weeks/months to flash
Hi all
I was just wondering if you can share any comments what smartphone have best apps in 2011.
What you will buy after HD2 ?
thanks
This is a question thats on my mind at the minute as well.
The main problem for me is that Ive become so used to the 4.3" screen that I really dont think I could handle using a phone with a screen of less than 4".
Im currently torn between the DHD, Nexus S, Incredible S, Desire S or the Sensation.
Im seriously thinking about waiting until June for the sensation, my concern is the battery though. HTC seem to be pretty lax when it comes to getting optimal battery life from a phone, the sensation with its dual core and new sense (which will probably be even more of a memory hog than the old sense) is going to tear the arse out of any battery.
Theres also the issue of how long its going to take to acheive root / s-off.... (Im very impatient and will not be able to put up with sense for that long, I really dont like the android version for some reason.)
DHD, obviously very similar to the HD2 with a good amount of development going on. However, poor battery life and the age of the device put me off a little. When I upgrade I'm going to have that phone for 18 months so I feel like I should probably go for a evice thats as new as possible.
Nexus, the only thing really putting me off is the fact that its made of nasty looking shiny plastic and doesnt feel as solid as the HD2. Also not a huge selection of custom ROMS for it from what I can see, compared to some devices.
So errr yeah... lol
Well I would recommend you to watch the latest updates at MIX 11 about WP7 Mango update I think you will like it a lot. And now that DFT is bringing Custom SPL to WP7 Source: Twitter (CotullaCode)
I think Android is great, it opens many doors specially for people on XDA, but the thing is. I always think android is missing the experience. It's not fun, and it's just an OS with apps. I will use Android till the end of my contract... And when the time comes I definitely get a WP7 device. Of course an 4.3"(+) screen. Once you get a fridge phone always a fridge phone Personally I'm waiting for Nokia to join the WP7 party, I know Nokia has the best and trustworthy hardware for their phones.
I just took Nexus S, actually looks not bad but screen is noticeably smaller. I did it because I wanted to resell my HD2 while still in warranty and Samsung are offering very good discounts on the SNS in France (it costs less than the Galaxy!). When Sensation comes out and price calms down I'll resell the SNS to get that marvel. Sadly, I'm hugely missing HTC Sense...
seriously even i am kinna confused i i say i want desirehd its been already ported to hd2 & so also nexus...i hope htc comes out dual core hd2...so we can start the fun all over again i know its not possible!
But ATM its just hd2 for me!
I think HTC EVO 3D will be my next phone after HD2 TMOUS
Simple, ....Another HD2

Sadly I totaly disagree with your Nokia statement - they have lost the plot in high end phones over the last couple of years.
The N8 is a software nightmare, as was the 5800 and that range of phones.
Their new mid range phone C7 - C5 have software issues.
This is not just my view I work it Mobile technical support. Nokia are no longer the top manufacturer - they do not rate the top 5 now. Use Google and read the comments from their CEO, he says about the same!
Incredible is my next phone - if my provider supply it
I think that Iphone 4 is superior for the touch screen and for the smoothness of system...Nevertheless I'm waiting for new devices of Htc like Sensation or evo 3d to make a choice...
Samsung Galaxy S 2 anyone?
I've been wondering this too. I just bought an HD2, but of course, the phone is a year old already, and smartphones are now getting 1GB RAM, 16GB internal storage, and dual core processors.
Before long, the HD2 is going to be out of date.
Personally, the most attractive aspect of the HD2 to me is how incredibly hackable it is. If I were to upgrade, I would hope whatever phone I upgrade to would have several OSes available to use too (as opposed to just several derivatives of the same OS).

Hit the nail on the head there brother!
The HD7 is a minor temptation, but after playing with a Mozart I found that there is no connecting to a hidden network, or as a mass storage device. A shame as everything else is very nice in WP7.
So I am keeping my eye out for hot deals on HD2's
Edit: Forgot about the non-removeable/expandable storage in WP7 (I have 32Gb in my HD2)
probably getting sensation for daily driver but will be saving this HD2 because its superphone over anything, probably ever because of OS possibilities.
If there doesnt come any other better phones than sensation I will be getting it when it releases.

this or the htc sensation, im tempted to save the money and buy an s2 with the tegra 2 chip. It seems like tegra 2 will be widely supported and it'll have games optimised for it also it may lead to the phone being cracked faster.
For me there realy isnt any phone that beats HD2 (still). Im a WM6.1 ,WM6.5.x fanboy. the only hing that I miss at HD2 is harwware keyboard. but other then that it still is the perfect phone in my opinion. I never oliked phones that you get bored of quickly. HD2 has alot of development going on xda. you can have numerous OSes running on it. It never gets boring. I probably will not change my phone before there is realy something special (no, galaxy S 2 isnt special enough ).
At the moment I'm still torn between different OS's(ssssss). I've been warming to WinPho 7, but after reading over on Pocket Now about some of the things that might STILL be missing even after the Mango update later this year, I don't think I can wait. http://pocketnow.com/windows-phone/windows-phone-7-mango-the-missing-features No smart dialing, no flash support in the browser? What on earth are Microsoft doing?
Having said I can't wait for Microsoft to get their act together, if I could stick a super LCD in my HD2 and a better camera sensor, I would happily keep it for another year or two until quad core chips are out and are selling at reasonable money.
The Sensation will be such a rip-off SIM-free here in the UK this summer I couldn't bring myself to buy one; there'll be much better and more efficient hardware out by the end of '11, beginning '12 ; )
G2x
Stock Android
Tegra Dual Core
4g
Supports a WIDE range of spectrums and supports ATT 3g along with T-Mobile's 4g and 3g
All screen and no keyboard.
It's literally future proof (since ATT will be eating Tmobile soon)
The SGS2 looks better than the Sensation in terms of specs?
Hi everyone!
I was (till very recently) a happy and pround HD2 owner; unfortunately it was stolen/lost... So, my question is: what device should I buy now? What I really appreciated in our HD2 was the fact that I could freely change between Android and Windows Phone (and others) at will, keeping up to the updates of both. I did a quick search and came to the conclusion that no other device has this "flexibility"... So, what would you suggest? I was totally "seduced" by Windows Phone and would love to own a device which comes with it natively and working flawlessly, but Android is also tempting with the new IceCream Sandwich
Thanks in advance!
Another HD2?
Do you think that would be a good deal now? I mean, there are devices with dual core CPUs now
Other than that what would be like the best device for Windows Phone for instance? I like HTC and so I would maybe go for the Titan. But it simply doesn't seem to be... special...
Well why don't you go through the list of supported phones in this forum that's mobile... look up the specs and roms performance and go from there.... thnx button?

I came here to ask the same question as OP.
I am on my second HD2, but am getting the power button issue again, and can't deal with the problem a third time.
I had a Nexus S for a while and liked it; thats a cheap option.
There aren't many choices IMO...
-Nexus Galaxy (big expensive)
-Nexus S (cheap, but dated)
-GSII (still expensive for older hardware)
-Lumia 800 (WP7 is not as full featured as you know. Zune software sucks)
-HTC phones (I dont really like the styling of anny of the new ones)
-Xperia Arc (nice screen, but average all round)
-Huawei Honor (looks good?)
-iphone 4
I'm leaning toward a white GSII
Hmm, I didn't know Huawei Honor, it does look good. But its specs are not so good... My brother has an iPhone 4S and my father has an iPhone4 and I really like the high screen pixel density, it looks amazing! I know the galaxy nexus has even higher resolution, but I guess it became just too big for me... I guess the HD2 was on the limit. I also want something fast, right now I'm on my brother's old iPhone 3G and that things' so slow...
I've ssen some threads here selling used HD2s, maybe I'll get one while I'm thinking about what to buy next The thing is: the HD2 was like "love at first sight", you know? Like my previous P990i (even though it was more like a love-hate relation ) And right now no other device feels like that...
Thee galaxy Note is great in all ways! (except touchwizz...)
