Ok so everyone thought that 4.0 would be here on october 11th turns out this has now been pushed back.
In a official statement and to cut things short icys will be released a little later in respect to the passing of steve jobs.
Now i thought this was very nice of eric and the crew but still i hope they dont push it to next year.
Maybe a month to grieve then release ? My fingers are crossed what are your guys thoughts

yes think so too..
Will ics run good on our device ? Has somebody information about the features and the conditions of that OS ?
ICS won't come official but most likely we will use a cm source or from aosp source rom. Hope it is done before next year or I will never get to try it

Yeah, the LG GT540 has little RAM compared to the Android devices currently available and it uses a ARMv6 processor that also makes a lot of apps incompatible.

if are phone can handle gingerbread just fine i think it should run ics without any problem just think by the time ics is released and the CM team work there magic for CM8 we should have fully working .32 kernel thanks to pebe and his hard work. the way i see it is with every new version of android its just a more up to date version were optimization is concerned.
im pretty sure cyangenmod said they will make cm9 not cm8

Still, I'm a bit concerned. With kernel development having reached a standstill on the EVO Shift because all we had was the Froyo kernel, I'm wondering who's gonna step up to take the challenge. To say the least, it'll be interesting to see kernel development start up again, and our Gingerbread Sense Shifts will finally be complete.

Thanks for the good laugh lol. It is a very tedious thing to get it working good and stable. I think I speak for most of the Evo Shift kernel devs when I say that non of us want a unstable kernel. But right now the overclocking is being a pain which I guess is expected with a stock htc kernel.
1.4 ghz, now while some of us get to watch these things get built infront of us or all around us, we still have to sit and wait for perfection at its best

Hey guys!
***OPEN PHONE 7 PROJECT IS NOW FAR AHEAD, DATE OF RELEASE WILL BE ANNOUNCED SHORTLY, MAYBE JULY TIME***
SCREENSHOTS NOW POSTED
Over the last couple of months, the OpenPhone7 team has been working on a ROM called 7Phone, which we are planning on designing so it is 100% customizable, with a nice smooth and sleek Metro UI design, as to look a little like Windows Phone, but to be a more, somehow simpler design.
The ROM is going to be designed to have two themes with it; a Metro UI style theme, and an iOS type of theme. Only not TOO iOS, mainly because I don't exactly "like" iOS.
So far, we have been working off scratch for one part of the team, and the other part of the team working off a variant made from a CM7 ROM (4 people on each part).
We have so far gotten the following features implemented in:

I have one week of free time. I've ported GummyNex (click) and CM9 (click), and I need something to do. Any of you have any ROMs that want to be ported? No guarantees on anything, but I need something to do because of the cloudy and rainy weather here in Dallas. I was looking at Sense 4, Codename Android, and the Liquid Metal port, but what do you guys think?
what happened to the gummy port? And I never even knew about a CM9 port.

the kernel youve been using is the same one which is drews. That kernel is meant for ics aosp. You would have to modify the kernel for sense ics which NO ONE has been able to do on the OG. So port isn't as simple as you think.

Most likely not, my cm9 from source is bootable but not very stable of course my kernel is built from the ground up and no where near complete since proprietary driver source for the evo isn't available for ics thanks to HTC EOL'ing the evo so they couldn't be forced to drop an updated Dev kit, I've had to either hack gb drivers to work with ics or attempt to write the drivers from scratch which has been an excercise in getting a nice migraine but somethings gonna give and ill either get it working or die trying evo tho I don't use my evo as my main phone anymore I've committed myself to getting that f*cker working come hell or highwater

Trust me when I say getting ics working takes a hell of a lot of work and time with no official support >_< I can compile 3 cm7.2 mods with new goodies before I can get one cm9 done and about 90% of the time it feels like I wasted the time compiling cm9 cuz what was fixed was so minor it doesn't feel like it made a damn dent in the FC city its like going to war with a water gun and thinking you're gonna survive

You've got working camera drivers for both 3.1 and 3.2 and we can't get someone to engineer a working ics kernel with cameras?
Would someone like to school me on what the big roadblock is here if you already have examples to work with? I don't have a problem donating some cash up front if dev time/interest is what's holding us back here

From what I understand its drivers for ICS coming from source. When Samsung releases ICS, camera can be fixed in AOSP.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using xda premium
My understanding is that its not worth spending the time to engineer or reverse engineer the driver. Especially since it will be released by Samsung in the not to distant future. Just be patient or use a Honeycomb based ROM.

Put up a bounty if you're interested; state how much you're willing to donate, and put it in escrow. It can be done, and maybe a dev will take you up on it. That said, with ICS on the horizon any dev will be wary of putting in time if Samsung drops the code before they get the bounty. I agree with the previous person -- suck it up and wait. Use HC if you need the camera.
I was wondering this too... cameras work on a HTC evolution and Samsung captivate...no ics for those in official releases...
