[Q] Downgrade from 3.2 to 3.01 question - Acer Iconia A500

I downgraded my A500 from 3.2 to 3.01 using the method someone posted in the Dev section. It works for me and now I am back to 3.01. I want to upgrade back to 3.1. I tried OTA but it doesn't work as it says my system is up-to-date. What do I have to do? Does it mean I have to flash a new version? How come OTA doesn't work?

Depends on which ROM you downgraded to.

I downgraded using this method >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1276227

I use rom (and method) in this post : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17970287&postcount=52
After downgrading, Settings/About tablet/System update allow me to upgrade
PS : Just one thing, I had to factory reset my tablet to downgrade.

Seem like you go a different route. I wonder what do I have to do though.

You still didn't answer the question "which version did you downgrade to".
Look in settings, about tablet, and see which version you're on.

When I follow the instruction on the post I ended up downgraded to version 1.016.05_COM_GEN1. Do I have to do a factory reset after I downgraded? I didn't see it mention in the instruction.

I guess I should actually flash to a 3.2 rooted version? I am rooted and have Acer Recovery Installer v2.51 with premium features installed. Is there a tutuorial on how to use the app though? It look fairly simple but I want to avoid any mess up. I look in the Q&A section but not much info. Thanks.

From Acer recovery installer, install clockwork recovery. Drop you ROM on your external SDCard, power off unit. Power on holding volume key, and hold both until you see CWM. Install file from SD card, choose zip to install, reboot.
I'll never flash without doing a complete wipe and format, but others do.

The acer recovery installer also has a option to install rom from a list they have within the app because I bought the extra features.

Not sure which ones you have to choose from, ie: stock rooted 3.2 or not.

Umm as I said in my previous post, I have no idea what your choices are.
I don't use it, as it's a n00bie app.
Sorry I can't help ya there.

The one you are using is rooted stock 3.2? From what I see from the list there are quite a few to choose from. I don't think I need a lot of extra accessories as long as there is ad-hoc fix, drive mount, etc than I am happy.

Doesn't appears under download/install ROM within Acer Recovery Installer. You need to copy it to an USB drive after downloading. Use Acer Recovery Installer to boot into recovery and from there select install zip/ select the usb rom (under sdcard).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1290318

So this is a rooted HC 3.2? How is this compare to Taboonay 3.2? Does it use the same method for flashing (put it in SDcard and boot by pressing power button and vol-)? Sorry too many questions but I am still new to this flashing thing. Thanks!

Is a stock US GEN 3.2 rooted rom. Without any adds or deleted apps. It's the same Acer OTA stock rom but rooted. You cab install it as Taboonay, using cwm. Just before doing do a full backup and cache and dalvik cache wipe using the included cwm functions.

[ROM] Stock, Rooted, Deodexed 4-18 Leak

This is for those of you who are looking for a quick, easy way to revert to stock, or prefer to update from an older rom without losing your data.
Thanks to Jcase we have a new Rom with some significant fixes for this already awesome phone. I used his RUU to update my phone, did a system dump, deodexed it, and zipped it up for easy install. I take no credit for these files, just the simple task of compiling it in this format.
I have tested this on my phone and it works fine for me, I was able to upgrade from the stock rooted rom straight after following the permaroot instructions, and I didn't lose any data. I make no promises this this will work, or that it won't brick your phone.
First, if you're upgrading from a previous rom, you need to flash the Radio using the RUU from Adrynalyn's post:
http://www.multiupload.com/2VDSQ6SBAZ
Just copy the file to the root of your sdcard, reboot into the bootloader and flash like any other RUU. This will not wipe /data, but may cause you to lose stored text messages.
Next download the Rom from here:
http://www.androiddoes.net/~sonofskywalker3/Thunderbolt/Rom/Stock_Deodexed_4-18_Leak.zip
This is a Clockwork update.zip, so just use Rom Manager or reboot to recovery to flash it. This will not wipe /data, but will remove any /system modifications (removed/frozen bloat, stock apps)
And if you'd prefer a faster download, hop over to Androiddoes.net and use the direct download links.
Please let me know if you have any issues with this.
Thank you so much for this. I was looking for a way to update my rooted-stock without doing my setup all over again.
Really appreciate it...
No problem, just be aware that this will reinstall your /system partition, so if you've removed or frozen any system apps (preinstalled bloat, demos, etc.) they will come back.
I am safe to assume this has root pre installed, correct?

Anything you have added to the /system partition will be deleted, but anything on /data (market downloads and most update.zip) will be fine. Any themes will be overwritten. This will leave s-off.

Did you use a custom kernel before? I read someone with the same problem and they reflashed their kernel and it fixed it.
Yeah, some people are reporting wifi issues until reflashing a kernel, there is not one built into this rom so it won't overwrite whatever you already have.
sonofskywalker3
any news on a v2??
this one still says the version is 1.12.605.6... was this built off of one of the earliest RUU releases where the OP had removed the version info?
i believe that is the reason. i hope lol
yes this is the newest update but it will still show the original release version numbers as this was to protect the leakers. Its the newest leak as of 4-18
the links seem to lead to the radio? where can i find the rom .zip? i would love to try this! thank you!
nvrm i was thinking it was radio buts it a rom file just same name*!
***yeah tried it and didnt work..
The Rom link in the thread definitely isn't the Rom. It's only 25mb. If you use the androiddoes site it has the right link.

The radio checksum is on adrynalyne's site. The link to the rom in this post is not the rom, but if you click on where I think it says high speed download or something like that it takes you to another site. The ROM on that one is right and works fine.
Edit: (And if you'd prefer a faster download, hop over to Androiddoes.net and use the direct download links.) Androiddoes.net has the right file.

[Q] Installing Stock Update with Acer Recovery Installer?

So, I'm new to the world of tablets - the only interaction with them being some light use on my mom's tablet (including rooting it via Iconia Root and installing Acer Recovery Installer v2.54) I was curious about updating via ARI (since she's rooted and being plagued by OTA popups). Back when she first got the tablet, she tried to update and it would stop mid-download, giving no error, and just sit there until she cancelled it (this was before the root). So, basically, my question is: Is it possible to run a stock update (Ie "Stock 3.1 4.010.42_EMEA_GEN3") without having to wipe during install? I have a backup via ARI and also Titanium backup installed but I'd really like to not have to re-install all the apps/set up the homescreen (she's on stock) and stuff. I know on my OG droid that when I installed CM7 I had to do a wipe for it to even get past the boot screen but I figure with this being a stock update maybe it's different...
If not is there some way that I can install an update while keeping the root/system data?

No. If you run the OTA, you WILL lose root. Not to mention I don't have a lot of faith in any device OTA updates. Prior experience, and hanging around various forums, well, you can read the horror stories.
I would advise, if you want to upgrade her OS and get rid of the "pesky" update notifications, is to flash one of the Stock rooted roms available. Or maybe a stripped down version of a Stock rom.
Search the developer section for a rooted version of the stock OTA, there are several in there. Install it via recovery, you only need to wipe dalvik and cache before the install. All of her data and programs will still be there. It will upgrade just fine. Remember wipe Dalvik and cache but do not wipe data and everything will be fine.
get and flash one of the honeylicious rom from the dev area .. good rom very basic apps.. but has a update to get the acer apps back.. and bunch of other cool mods.. the dev is also . kinda trustworthy..

Well... if the person was going to do an update to the exact same rom (different version) I would say ok.
But... if you are going to go to a totally different Rom, you NEED to wipe User Data.
Or, does anybody want to tell me you never have to?
3 Wipes. Mandatory when switching between roms, unless you are a dev and know exactly what you are doing.
Or.... you can forget about the safe side of things, and just flash away, and hope luck is with you.
The Market, SHOULD, allow you to re-download apps based on the market version you previously used. If not, it's a good time to clean house of the useless apps.

I wasn't talking about an OTA, I was talking about the stock 'rom' updates via recovery. I've had experiences with phones that have been rooted and accidentally updated via OTA, it's not fun. My phone was actually put into something I like to refer to as the Root limbo lol, bricked it for a small period of time - that was fun fixing it. I didn't have a nandroid at the time so I had to start from scratch...

If you stick with a stock pre-rooted ROM, you won't get stuck in a bootloop like you do some phones. You're just doing an upgrade.
But like doing an upgrade to any other OS without formatting first, you're writing good data over bad, so your mileage may vary.

I've never heard of the A500 going into a bootloop simply from flashing one rooted stock ROM to another, but then again most people do all the necessary wipes when they do. Did you wipe dalvik and battery stats? That's about as minimal as you're going to get. If that doesn't work, you'll just have to flash the proper way. Because that firmware is only for the TF300T, not for the 3G version. You'll have to wait a little bit longer, until Asus releases a proper version.
Finally got it working, I stupidly didn't realize this was different than OTA and rooted ICS then lost it even with the rootkeeper and supersu. Anyway, no big deal, I only wanted to remove ads...
Now if I could only have JB for my phone, an atrix, I guess it is easier to get a new phone..
I've updated to JB via the OTA but wondering if downloading this WW_SKU and doing a full wipe might be better to get the best performance from the new JB update. Would that make a difference?

If you plan to install the firmware from the Asus website (and not through OTA), you will lose root, but since you unlocked the bootloader that shouldn't be a problem.
In your cause the way I would do it:
- first run Titanium Backup to backup all user apps, then put the backup on an external removable sdcard.
- then copy the firmware to your sdcard.
- your tablet will prompt you that it found the update, then install it.
- after the install is complete do a factory reset to wipe all user data (this will also wipe the default location where Titanium Backup puts it's backups).
- now you have a clean install of Jelly Bean.
- because you unlocked the bootloader you should be able to regain root again.
- after having root back, run Titanium Backup again to put back your apps.
Dang!
I had the US version installed on my tablet with TWRP - downloaded, wiped system, factory reset, and then tried to flash the WW - getting "signature mismatch" errors now.
I can still boot to recovery (now using CWT as I thought that might be the issue) but it seems to load the zip, then reboots - then goes to blank screen with the signature mismatch in the left corner.
I am in Canada and was running the WW version before flashing the 'stock' US JB - is there something that I am forgetting to do that is giving me the mismatch error?

Asus Customized setting on Hydro 4.1

I tried the Hydro ROM the past weekend and had no issues outside of not being able to use the device as a Mass Storage location when connecting to my PC (still need to reflash to test some things out on that.) But for some help, I would suggest you give us a step by step on how you flashed and what files you used. There are two that are suggested (from what I can read). The base ROM, and then the Update A and Update B. If what I interpreted from what I read, the Update A is needed to bring the Base ROM to the lastest, and the Update B is for those already on the base ROM, though as I read what I just wrote here that seems kinda redundant. I'll have to go back and try to flash update A by itself and see if it contains the whole ROM and Update together.
Anyway, if you can just give some details on your device, the way you flashed, and the files used, we might be able to better direct why the settings are FCing on you.

Using Hydro Ponic
You can get into trouble if you don't get the right install. With a fresh install of the base Rom, you install Update A. On a tf300 with Hydro Ponic already installed and previously updated, you just install the update B. It's possible to jump to the B update after just installing Base Rom but you might be missing some stuff - not surprising if Asus Cust Setting is not working. Always backup before you leap into the install - other wise you risk losing data as you scramble to bring things back into order - I know all about losing data. I use CWM and have never found it lacking, I'm sure TWRP works very well, it's just a preference and comfort level with a Recovery program that one gets used to. Pay close attention to the clearing or wiping of things in the following tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1663244. The order of doings things is important and don't leave out a step.
