Hi all,
as the distribution for this phone is currently limited to those 4 countries, what are the options of buying one there (an unlocked one) and then using it in a regular Network outside?
What limitations do i need to consider?
What risks am i taking?
I believe switzerland runs a regular GSM network, nothing special.
regards
Living in France, I am also considering buying it in the UK.
As far as I remember, the French and UK 3G bands are similar, and I could pickup some 3G signal with my French HD while in the UK. I guess it should work the other way around
Has anyone ordered from non US countries? Any info about the price there?
I live in France too, and I'm very interested in this phone. I wait to know if it works in France.
Waiting for it from Switzerland
It is expected to hit France in the first quarter of 2010 on SFR...
If you want it now, you'd better find a friend in the UK who will order it for you and ship it. In the UK, it retails at around 450€ inc VAT.

Nothing special if you are using GSM SIM. However, google is controlling the sale, so the location to ship the phone to must be within its restricted country list. If you know of an escrow service in Switzerland which charges you for a shipment address in US, you can bypass that restriction.
I would really love getting the dual SIM version of the Samsung Galaxy S 4 as it would allow me to carry one less phone with me. But in the end I'm not sure if the pros outweight the cons.
Pros:
- Able to use two SIMs in the same phone
- Exynos 5 Octa, which will see very limited availability in Europe
Cons:
- China Unicom specific version
- No international warranty outside of China
- UI may not be available in English?
- Will be stuck with the stock Chinese firmware as the ROMs for i9500 / i9505 will not work on this
Is anyone else considering buying an i9502 to be used outside of China?

I would like to have i9502 and I have the same questions and worrying about the warranty outside of China. I'm gonna wait till it is available on eBay. I hope that some companies could give at least 12 months international warranty for this device.
I am thinking of buying one for use world wide. I assume no one will be developing a custom ROM for this version.
Is there a way to install the Play Store and Gapps?
As the S4 should be highly popular, we might see more developing for the exynos chipset. Once they come out with the aosp base for it, developing for the variants should be easier.
Since i9502 is China based, we should see a MIUI Rom for it soon

I thought samsung released their official rom for this phone? Doesn't it therefore mean that we can root this without any bugs? I remember the Note 2 dual sim custom rom had bugs on the map and caller id.
Can someone verify that once using the official rom, play store and Google apps will be available?

Looks like there is one out there

The only way to install Play Store and Google apps is to root the phone. Unfortunately, there's no available rooting method yet for Galaxy I9502. But I'm hopeful that it will be available in the future. Like the Galaxy Note 2 GT-N7102 Dual Sim variant, a working rooting procedure was eventually made available.
I have ordered my Galaxy I9502 and can't wait to get my hands on it.

I ordered from taobao.com thru an agent in my country. Just need to choose a trustworthy seller. Or you can order from etotalk.com but the price is a little higher and payment method is not safe.

So you're gonna live with the fact that you don't have Play Store? Or do you have a work around?

No, I'm optimistic a rooting tool will be available once this phone is released.

Based on offical specs, I'm very sure an unlocked SGS4 I9502 will work in my country and Europe too.
Here's why:
SGS4 I9502 Supported Network Frequency:
WCDMA 850/900/1,900/2100MHz
GSM 850/900/1,800/1900MHz
GSM Coverage:
GSM 900 / GSM 1800 MHz are used in most parts of the world: Europe, Asia, Australia, Middle East, Africa.

3G Coverage:
In general, the various UMTS bands are deployed as follows:

Band II (W-CDMA 1900) in North America and South America (ITU Region 2).
Band IV (W-CDMA 1700 or Advanced Wireless Services) in the United States (T-Mobile USA), Canada (WIND Mobile, Mobilicity, SaskTel, Vidéotron) and Chile (VTR Movil, Nextel Chile)

I bought mine in China and used it with China Mobile and my US T-Mobile SIM cards installed at the same time. When I landed back on US soil, it automatically switched to use my T-Mobile SIM. I haven't had any problems so far.
Does that mean you have Google apps and play store?

Hi, I'm really confused.. I have a rooted galaxy s4 from att. I am currently in israel and using an israeli sim card in my unlocked phone. There is an app called get taxi that is available in israel that I want to download, it keeps telling me that it is not available in my country... Why is that? I'm in israel now. I have read that by using vpn I can bypass this but I want to be able to do it the normal way since I'm going to be here for a while. I already tried to clear app data and cache in the play store which didn't work. Any ideas? I'm in the country in which the app is available so not sure what's wrong here.

Have to use VPN... try DroidVPN, it's free unless you want unlimited bandwidth which is $5 for one month.
Could all you guys and girls with a S8 or S8+ confirm if you have the places tab on your dialer and if so what network are you on and what firmware revision do you have installed as well?
Yes I do. Unbranded S8. AQDG firmware.

Thanks for the quick response (xda won't let me press the thank you button for some reason)
P.S I am on Vodafone with the phone brought directly from Vodafone.
Looks like for some reason Vodafone have decided to disable it on their firmware, got confirmation from a mate and others on the interweb that they also have the places option on the dialer.
I think it's network dependant. I have an un-branded UK phone and places doesn't show up. The option to see caller ID is there but greyed out.
Maybe it is to do with network. FWIW I'm on Three.
I have the places tab available, my S8+ is from the O2 Store with O2 firmware.

Need to get my phone unlocked to test it with my works EE sim
Got bored so flashed my phone to XEU and this enabled places and wifi calling is still working so now I have a phone which has both features enabled with less bloatware so all round much happier now.
Still need to get it unlocked but cannot do this until more than 30 days has passed.
how do you change the units from km to miles in places tab ?

Anyone figure this out?
From what I can gather there is no way to change this. Samsung has decided we shall all have to use kilometres.
Works for me, on EE with EE handset. AQH3
When I try to install Android Auto App on my phone, I can see a message: "This app is incompatible with all of your devices."
Why and how to go over this?

And you have which device, rom/version? It's working flawlessly on OxygenOS op5 nougat/Oreo/pie, never had issues with it
OP5 with OxygenOS 9.0.3 (all stock).
On phone, Google Play doesn't show the Android Auto App. If I try on a desktop (connected with the same Google account), then I saw "This app is incompatible with all of your devices."
Is maybe Android Auto limited in some countries?
Update: after some browsing, I have found that I'm not alone (and not only on OnePlus).
Android Auto is currently available in the following countries
Argentina, Australia, Austria, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia
Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Germany, Guatemala
France, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Panama
Paraguay, Peru, Philippines, Puerto Rico, Russia, Singapore
South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan
United Kingdom, United States, Uruguay, Venezuela
Tnx. I saw that list of countries on Google's site yesterday. But I still can't understand why I get the same error when I use German VPN. Maybe Google also check phone's current location?
Maybe I should try to find an APK, but now it is too late. I returned rental car
Absolutely Google Play uses GPS to determine where you are. Might want to try switching of the location permission for Google Play and then try your VPN
I also tried this, but it was not enough.
