Hello all,
I have a serious problem with my calendar app. Whenever there is an appoitment with notification in my calendar than my Galaxy remains awake for at least half hour. Better Battery Stats claims that it is caused by 'StartingAlertService' (Calendar).
I use stock KI4 rom with android 2.3.4 (am rooted). Any tips or ideas? Calendar is essential for me, so removing / not using calendar is not an option for me.
Thank you in advance
I read somewhere that is a known issue to the calendar alarm dunno if there is any kind of workaround

Hello.
I've noticed recently that the Calendar application is using a lot of battery on my DHD, if I've not used my phone much since unplugging it, the Calendar claims to have used up to 50% of the battery. On normal usage it uses a similar amount as the display. I am running Leedroid 1.2 (did the same thing in 1.0) and have tried clearing the cache, unchecking the weather feature and removing the facebook calendar (I now have 1 gmail account calendar, 1 subscribed calendar and public holidays listed). I have done several restarts and it is always the same.

Does anyone have any ideas of how to resolve this? My next step would be to do a full wipe and reflash of the ROM but I would rather not get that far...
Thanks.
I have the same issue, had it on the normal OTA and now on leedroid too. I use multiple Google calendars and have Facebook and twitter sync running. It does seem to spend a lot of time synching.
Just looked at accounts and syncing and it does seem to be Google calendar that is constantly syncing.

In many different forums the same issue appears all the time. Many people resolved it by limiting their homescreen widgets that make use of calendar in some way. Sometimes even more than one make the calendar go berserk and chopchop ur power like a hungry chinese - a bowl of rice

I don't have a calendar widget. I do have the Facebook and twitter on my home screens (was about the time I started using these that I noticed it actually.)
Well it is still present after removing the Facebook and Twitter widgets (and after a restart for good measure). Maybe it is Launcher Pro?
My calendar has started being a real pain in the backside today. I was reading a few topics on the calendar and after checking my battery usage daily I thought my calendar had started using a lot more battery than it used to (used to be around 5-8% on a full charge, recently its been 15-20%).
So I wasn't able to find any fix in the other threads and someone suggested clearing the data from the app manager which I did. The problem now is that my calendar is messed up. I only use it for birthdays linked via facebook and holidays. It is showing the holidays fine but it is no longer showing birthdays. It shows some (3 to be exact) however there used to be waaaaay more as it showed all my facebook contacts birthdays. The 3 people that it is showing seem to just be random and it says they've been linked from facebook.
The good news is that my calendar battery usage is back down to below 5%, but maybe that's because it isnt even working as it should.
Anyone have any suggestions. I really don't want to do a factory reset. It took me about 3-4 hours to sort out my contacts and link them all correctly so doing that again would drive me mad (unless there is some way I can do a backup which includes the contact links?)
Sorry, I can't help you but HTC clearly has issues with Google Calendar. My calendar eats battery and often sits at the "Loading" screen. I see lots of issues on the forum, and few solutions. Time HTC fixed it.
Hi,
Yeah its a known issue. I have the same problem. I e-mailed HTC about is last week and they replied saying that they know about it and should be fixed in an update soon.

Hello!
I tried the clear-data for the calendar and the battery consumption has dropped to normal levels again.
Thing is my Facebook birthdays are not showing up anymore (at least most of them...).
Also, I would like to ask another thing.
Is there a way for the calendar to display birthdays for people that you don't have as friends in facebook but you have their birthdays stored in your phone contact list??
And one final question. If you go to Google calendar online (from a PC) there is an option to have your favorite teams' schedules on your calendar. Is there a way for these schedules to appear on your phone calendar as well?
Thanks!

I have the exact same facebook birthday issue because I did the exact same clear data thing. Battery consumption from the calendar has disappeared thankfully but now the facebook birthdays don't appear.
I eventually gave up and left it. Day by day the facebook birthdays have been appearing strangely. Initially only 2 friends birthdays were appearing after clearing the calendar data, then the next day there were about 4, then the next day a few more and its gradually populating the calendar. There are still some missing but I'm hoping they will appear soon as everyday there seems to be some more added.
It is very strange but give it a few days and see if it starts populating.
Same here. Cleared the calendar data and it has resulted in similar effects (improved battery, weird calendar). I'm surprised that such basic functionality (HTC syncing with Google calendar using a Google OS) has caused such problems.
Oh, any syncing my favourite team (the one and only Glasgow Celtic) would be nice. Any ideas? I have Celtic's fixtures in Google Calendar on a PC but they don't appear in my syncs.
Hi,
I've recently updated my SGS2 to FW KF3.
Update seem to be working great, fixing random reboots and giving better battery life.
However, I've also noticed a small bug related to contact's birthday countdown.
I have my android contacts synced with google contacts. For some of my contacts I have a birthday entry. Those contacts that have the bday entry appear on my google calendar too. So far so good.
On the SGS2 (and maybe available on other android phones), if I call a contact a few days from his bday, I get a countdown notice on his profile photo with the number of days remaining till his bday. This feature used to work well, but since the last FW update I noticed the countdown message is off by one day. Meaning, I get a "today is ### bday" one day early, instead of on the actual date shown in google calendar.
Has anyone else noticed this bug?
Any fix suggestions?
Hello mjeshurun,
I have the same problem on official XXKI3 / 2.3.5.
Do you have some solution, or still not?
Thanks

I haven't done anything to fix it, but it seems everything is working normally again. Don't know how or why. Maybe updating to FW 2.3.4 KI4 fixed it.
Hello. I am using ki8 and siyah kernel. I am getting insane levels id wake lock due to calendar. I believe it is the same as an old aosp bug. Can some one direct me further on what to do next, I don't think deleting calendar sync is an option.
Yeah. 40% over 10 hours is good worth that usage..except I wasn't using the phone except at the beginning.
Thank you

Just had one of these yesterday running villainrom 3
It happened because I had locked the screen in the middle of setting a calendar event without saving or cancelling. I guess it got stuck in awake and killed my bat as well.
Exited and it's been fine so far.
I have that wakelock also. It's really bad when I have busy schedule. I notice it has something to do with reminder alarm. If no reminder alarm set for an appointment, it seems fine though. Any one else having this wakelock? This wakelock really drain battery.
p.s. I have seen this thread but that is more about identifying the issue. now we have I think it is worth seeing if this is a ki8 only issue, or ki3 or (2.3.5) our ki4 (2.3.4)

So to isolate and confirm what other people have said...
First I tried different calendar alert settings. No difference.
I have now reset my calendar data and re-synced. I will update tomorrow if phone refuses to sleep after first calendar alert.
If that fails I shall remove first built-in calendar; and then google calendar from calendar app.
Finally if that fails I will try uninstalling Samsung apps one by one. (I always did SNS and hub apps. I never turned dive on)
Read the discussion in this thread (posted earlier) where a couple of us discuss what is going on with Calendar. However in my case, I don't use Calendar much so I simply uninstalled it with Titanium Backup. Now I don't get any more wakelocks but I also don't have a calendar, so it's up to you.

shutting down services selectively didn't seem a solution to me. I can say that wiping data for the three calendar apps and re syncing helped,. I had zero wake locks today inspite of a massive schedule that meant I couldn't even dismiss the events this afternoon except once I needed to make a call.
I wonder if calendar didn't like google assisted upgrade.
I shall monitor that.

Well I think that cracked it. Turn off calendar sync.
Wipe calendar data and re-enable calendar sync.
I cannot remember which forum I read that but kudos to that one and shame not more people tried it.
I was getting wakelocks as well with the calendar so i froze it in Titanium and i use Calandar One and no wakelocks (and it's much better than the stock one too)
So this is the strangest issue I have ever encountered.
I normally use my Google Calendar for all Notifications, Gmail Sync etc.. S planner normally just runs in the Background without actually doing anything.. And it worked perfectly till I upgraded to 4.4.2 and then suddenly this error started coming up
Whenever I restart my phone its like both these applications completely get reset. S planner becomes the default app for the Calendar and the notifications, sounds, vibrations etc all get automatically turned on.. While all the settings I had in my Google calendar app get completely wiped clean as if it were a fresh install.. All the notification, sounds, vibrations, default reminder time, last viewed and I don't know if I am explaining it right but the week view the appointments/entires get zoomed in rather than zoomed completely out which is what I set it to normally..
So now I have trolled the internet for a solution almost the entire day with no luck whatsoever.. Can anyone give me one? So as to ensure my sanity by days end?
I used an Xposed Module (app ops) to limit all of the permissions of the S Planner and that ensures that no notifications are coming on on the S Planner anymore.. however it is pretty pointless as a solution as my Google calendar is still reseting itself after every reboot..
Delete this post..
I'm just facing the same problem too, can you find a solution for it?
I have this issue too. Have you found a solution for it? Both Google and Samsung calendar notification settings reset upon phone restart.
Also, it seems that kitkat is messing with how my phone, or at least third party apps, write to my SD card. I miss jelly bean already.
Same Issue Here - AT&T Galaxy S4
Exactly the same issue here on my Galaxy S4. Only been happening since the 4.4.2 update. Can't disable the (rather hideous) Samsung calendar app, either... I've taken to changing the notifications from pop-ups to emails for events created on my calendar, so that I at least get the notifications.
Edit: also worth noting is that this is happening after a hard reset (I performed one after installing the OTA update and using it for a few days in hopes that this would be resolved). No dice.
I have the same problem on Note 3, it is annoying as hell..
I have the same issue on Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4. Does anyone have a solution?
please do a factory reset and see what happened. or remove your google account and add it again

A factory restore did not work for me.
I also have been trying to find a solution to this annoying problem. On Kit kat. Driving my crazy..
If factory doesnt solve it the easiest way is to download your region firmware and flash it through odin.

I tried flashing the firmware again, it still didn't solve the problem! This is driving me crazy =/
i'm almost sure this is due to some kind of "security" inside samsungs implemntation of 4.4.2 because
this applies also if you install for example the new messaging from s5, it will also be replaced with the "old"
version after a reboot. also ad-away does sometimes not work on 4.4.2, as if it doesnt get proper permission
to write to /system, even on a fully rooted device!
maybe it has something to do with the full implementation of SEAndroid, see here:
http://selinuxproject.org/page/SEAndroid
this is really annoying!
I am getting the same problem and tried emailing Samsung Customer Support and this is their answer...
Your question
I don't like S Planner and would like to use Google Calendar. S Planner cannot be disabled, therefore I turn off its notifications and enable notifications on Google Calendar. Every once in a while, S Planner notifications enables by itself and Google Calendar notifications get disabled. Why is it not letting me choose my calendar app?

I hate customer service responses like this. It's as though they didn't read your question...
I'm still waiting for a solution to this other than flashing another rom or rooting, although I doubt Rogers or Samsung will care.

Any news on that?
Same problem like you guys...
Same problem here. I have an ATT S4. I used to have notifications disabled for Samsung calendar with 4.3. After the OTA update to 4.4, they grayed out that option, just to annoy us in particular. The app cannot be disabled or turned off now. I recently installed the Graviton custom rom and I continue to have double notifications. Because now I have root, I could use some hard measures to stop Samsung calendar. I don't want the calendar system to stop working for the Google app though. Does anyone know a way of removing the Samsung app safely? Will Google calendar continue to work?
I wonder if I should stop buying Samsung.
Has anyone tried wiping their phone and see if the problem persists?
