Hi. This will most definitely sound noob, but I have to ask in order to upgrade my omnia 7 8GB:
I bought my Omnia 7 a week ago, in Serbia and it is (apparently) "taken" from the Hungarian T Mobile (the logo screen is there) but it is carrier unlocked because I can put any SIM card and it works. At first there were problems like not displaying the sms and e-mail messages, and when I changed the "System locale" language and stuff it couldn't connect to the internet via Internet Explorer (I left it to Hungarian, so now it does). i also did the "Reset your phone" option in the settings -> about menu and the SMS and E-mails are now fine, BUT, I don't understand how to wake up the phone when it's on standby because sometimes the only way to wake it is by pressing the power button (at first I thought the WINDOWS button was non-responsive, but I was wrong). I even tried the download screen and hard reset screen (combo of keys) and while the Download mode is O.K. (I guess 'cos it displays the triangle screen) the Hard REST SCREEN seems to be faulty because it lasts only for a half a second and then the phone restarts without even letting me choose whether to reset or not?!?!
I still haven't even connected it to Zune. I've downloaded the MS Windos Phone Dev tools (the 400 MB package) on Windows 7, but waht to do next.
I also don't understand entirely what is 'firmware', what is 'ROM' (i know in other devices that the firmware is something like BIOS, but ROM can also be some oprating system, right?) and 'CSC (I know it has to do with the country selection) and which update contains what, and so on> I mean I've read the forums and I know what is to developer-unlock and carrier-unlock (sorta), and I'm getting along with OSes since the ZX Spectrum's basic - upto Ipad's iOS4, but I don't know what to do. I want to developer unlock it, to update to NoDo, or even Mango, and to try to sideload homebrew apps WITHOUT relocking and WITHOUT BRanding it (or carriel-lock it). Because the firmware and all are pretty old, what should I do first: flash the phone, or update via Zune or do the Chevron or something else 'cos I'm afraid if it can't be upgraded or if there may be some issues. PLEASE HELP and sorry 2 bother U guys
Thanx in advance
My firmware and everything is pretty old from what I've seen so far:
OS version: 7.0.7004.0
Firmware revision number: 2424.10.10.4
Hardware revision number: 3.15.0.4
Radio software version: 2424.10.10.3
Radio hardware version: 0.0.0.800

O.K. So I couldn't wait and unlocked the phone with Chevron. It worked O.K. and Zune installed the update 7008. After that I even deployed a .xap (it worked ). When I tried to deploy again it started O.K. but then it said something like "The port to comunicate is not a socket" or smt like that. Then, I noticed that Zune warned me that another update was ready (the 7392) and started and went well until the last step when it said "update fail, error code 801812dd". I googled and found that that may be because of the USB cable / port (I have the original cable). So I connected the phone to a USB port at the back of my PC, but Zune doesn't recognise any updateds any more? What should I do? Thanx in advance
Well, I figured it out. I DID IT, I installed the 7392 update. It works like a charm. It even updated my bootloader and what not. Thanx guys, you're awesome, but mostly thank to those who tried to explain the stuff in a more simple manner, for us, the beginners.

Never rooted or used any unlocking tools.

Cant get the phone in Download mode.
To get your Omnia7 into Download mode:
Phone off and:
- Press and hold the Camera button;
- Press and hold the Volume DOWN button;
- Press and hold the Power button;
- Release the power button when you see white Samsung Omnia7 Logo on your screen.
You should have entered Omnia7 download mode.
Remark: On lots of places you will find out that "VOLUME UP" is correct button but this is not the case with my SO7.
1. I tried using Samsung Omnia 7 Update tool. or go to MS Windows Omnia 7 page .
After trying for more than 1 hour I could not enter into boot loader mode.
(There is a message on the bottom of the Samsung tool to contact service support if I can’t enter the bootloader mode)

2. Zune reported that update is available.
- On the PC: I started the update but process stuck on “rebooting the phone” page. ( page 6 of 10 )
- On the phone: rebooting process stuck on “Samsung Omnia 7” white color msg.
Waited for 20 minutes and then
- Disconnect the USB cable,
- Pressed and hold the power button for minimum 5 sec for a phone restart.
- After the Windows Phone screen loaded ( BIG HUH!) I reconnected the usb cable.
- Phone was detected by Zune and the following message appeared.
- The update zune error code is because I have to disconnect the USB cable – reboot and connect again.
- If using Samsung update tool – Cant get the phone in DL mode.
- Bootloader ver. 4.10.1.9 (see first post)
This will be ugly.
Repeated everything 3 times.
Let the headache begin !

UPDATE:
If you have 4.10.1.9 that does not mean that you will have problems updating. Most of the affected are devices with that version. Do not assume that your update wont work if you have that version.( Or any other.)
- At this point nothing is fixed. Hardly they will fix anything at this point.
So:
- Your update might work without any problems.
- Your update might work without any problems after you used the Samsung update tool.
- Your update might NOT WORK AT ALL as described in the first post.
UPDATE: If you want to try and update with USB-JIG I created this simple guide here.
Just to clarify:
A. To get your Omnia7 into Download mode:
Phone off and:
- Press and hold the Camera button;
- Press and hold the Volume DOWN button;
- Press and hold the Power button;
- Release the power button when you see white Samsung Omnia7 Logo on your screen.
You have entered Omnia7 download mode.
Note:
On lots of places you will find out that "VOLUME UP" is correct button but this is not the case with my SO7.
B. To get your Omnia7 into "USB ---to----> PC" mode.
Phone off and:
- Press and hold the Camera button;
- Press and hold the Power button;
- Release the power button when you see white Samsung Omnia7 Logo on your screen.
You have entered with your Omnia7 into "USB ---to----> PC" mode.

Looks like you got the Samsung error code. Try the following steps in the attached link; should help you out
http://wmpoweruser.com/samsung-releases-801812c1-update-error-fix-for-the-samsung-omnia-7/
what is your bootloader version?
Its neither of that.
- If using update from Zune - the phone cant reboot on page 6 of 10.
- The update zune error code is because I have to disconnect the USB cable – reboot and connect again.
- If using Samsung update tool – Cant get the phone in DL mode.
- Bootloader ver. 4.10.1.9 (see first post)
This will be ugly.

Bootloader ver. 4.10.1.9. Same problem. Used option B to update to Nodo. Tried using Samsung Tool but download mode wont come up.
Called Samsung service centre as per advise on the Samsung Update tool but they told me nothing they can do and to call Microsoft. Meh!
Unable to update even after using Samsung Tool. Phone keeps rebooting at Samsung Omnia 7 logo.

I came from there. Doesn't work for me. Samsung still having issues...
sorry about that...It worked for me
wow... just wow....
I have said 4.10.1.9 bootloader version. I did nothing wrong, i updated my phone when prompted by official means and MS response is to call samsung support?
That is frankly not on. I am really angry about this, I have been such a strong supporter of MS and their products. I have Windows on my PC, I've had both XBox console and had windows mobile and now windows phone. I feel so let down by this, what a load of crap.

Same bootloader, successfully updated from 7008 only with zune
I have bootloader 4.10.1.9, and I managed to update my phone by putting the phone in download mode using the trick as described in this video: http://youtu.be/D0aoabVtPJ8
As an alternative, you could use a usb jig, the same ones that can be used for Samsung Galaxy S.
By putting the phone in download mode, you can install the Samsung patch. After that I had no problems installing the 7392 update through the Zune client.
Omnia 7 8Gb unlocked from factory.
My configuration was:
OS Version: 7.0.7008.0 (updated from 7004 removing the mobileOperator ID into the registry)
Firmware revision number: 2424.10.10.6
Hardware revision number: 3.15.0.4
Radio software revision: 2424.10.10.6
Radio hardware version: 0.0.0.800
Bootloader version: 4.10.1.9
Chip SOC version: 0.36.2.0
I did the trick of hungarian vpn to update to 7390, but in one week I restored to 7008 version again due to warning of Microsoft about unofficial updates.
Now I have 7.0.7392.0 using Zune normal update. No problems at all updating.
Very happy after long waiting.
I have bootloader version 4.10.1.9 and I updated from NoDo to 4392 using Zune. Did not need to use the Samsung tool. My phone is a T-Mobile UK unlocked.
Successfully updated from 7008 to 7392 only with Zune, all steps went fine.
My configuration now:
Samsung Omnia 7 16GB unbranded from Germany
OS Version: 7.0.7392.0 (before it was 7008)
Firmware revision number: 2424.10.11.1
Hardware revision number: 3.15.0.4
Radio software revision: 2424.10.11.1
Radio hardware version: 0.0.0.800
Bootloader version: 4.11.0.3
Chip SOC version: 0.36.2.0
The same problem here, unbranded Omnia 7
Updated to NODO with the wifi trick.
Bootloader version: 4.10.1.9
Can't get the phone in Download Mode.
Samsung...never again, the last phone from this OEM I buy.
And another:
Unbranded Omnia 7
Updated to NoDo with the 'pull network cable after 3 seconds' trick.
Bootloader version: 4.10.1.9
Can't get the phone in Download Mode.
Last thing to try is the trick with the 3 resitors and the USB port to get it into download mode (first need to find me the 100 ohm resistors)
Also considering not to buy another Samsung... but I do like the display!
Hello,
I have a debranded omnia 7
botloader: 4.10.1.5
firmware pda: JJ5
firmware phone: JJ3
nodo update throught zune desconect method
yesterday i try to update from nodo to 7392 and its imposible. allways stop in steep 6, during the reboot of the phone.
I apply samsung patch and the i can update to 7392 in the first atemp.
Unsuccessful after patch
I used the Samsung tool before even trying the 7392 update from 7390. After that, I tried updating but I'm getting the endless boot loop. I don't even know if it would have worked without the patch. I'm debating whether I should call Samsung up and see what solutions they've got for me, but I'm not sending my phone in if that's what they'll request! -.-
Samsung response
They suck! They said to contact Microsoft because it has nothing to do with them since the phone isn't able to connect with the Zune software or something..... I don't think she understood that it all works fine and dandy up until the phone needs to reboot and it just loops over and over again without even getting to the update screen... -.- Which, to me sounds like it's their problem since they need to be able to get the phone to boot up into the update mode screen (whatever the name for it is again...).
I never intended to have anything to do with Samsung because I knew how I hated their phones and designs (although the Omnia 7 is exempt from the design statement) but that's the only Windows Phone that Three UK offered!! :/
Hi,
I have a problem with my Omnia 7. When connecting to my computer, the zune software notified me that a new windows phone update was available. I installed the update with success. The firmware version was 2424.11.2.3. I noticed that the ringtones that were available were not there anymore (I use the standard samsung ringtone).
Because colleagues of mine didn't have this problem, I decided to do a restore via zune. All went well and I was back to firmware version 2424.10.11.1.
But now, I don't receive the update anymore. So I can't do a retry.
Any ideas how to solve this?

Any idea ?
i have the sam Problem, any idea ?
I end up flashing the original ROM and doing all the updates up to 7740.16.
The program to use and instructions are here

the ROM's for several companies are here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1131891
I tried this before, and it messed up my ability to connect to the network on Rogers. After using it, my phone wouldn't connect to 3g and barely connected to any other type of network...
Think i just got a bad ROM? it was a rogers ROM
Did you try with the official retail one from this post:

Hello,
I recently updated my Omnia 7 through Zune. After that I started getting errors where the charging sign would flash even though it was off the charger and the lockscreen would always stay on. Last week I got a message on my phone saying that there is an update available. I plugged the phone in and all I get from Windows is an unknown device error. I've tried it on several different USB ports as well as 2 different Windows 7 laptops and an XP desktop machine, all with the same error. I've even tried different USB cables. Please help me in resolving this issue as I love my Omnia 7 and want to keep it up to date and Zuned in to my PC. Here are my specs:
OS Version: 7.10.7720.68
firmware revision: 2424.11.9.2
hardware revision: 3.15.0.4
radio software: 0424.11.8.1
radio hardware: 0.0.0.800
bootloader: 5.9.0.6
Chip SOC: 0.36.2.0
Thanks!!!

hello,
did u mess with diagnosis app??
dial ##634# and press call, then dial *#7284# and be sure it's zune sync selected
did it worked before zune update??? if yes, revert to backup and try again to update
in diagnosis dial also *#1234#
and list your phone version
my 2 cents
Hello,
I did do the Zune sync version check and it is set to Zune sync. I did the *#1234# and this is what I got:
PDA: I8700XXK12
Phone: I8700DXKH1
CSC: I8700XSOK12
I'm pretty much at a loss at this point
ok, so you can't get phone recognized from usb plugging and you can't use zune, no possibility to use the backup
but at least the music is safe in your laptop and the contacts in windows live..
is your phone branded to something??? looks like it's from singapore, so could you send mms & sms with your provider????
anyway it's difficult to say what happened, I have no idea
these methods unfortunately will wipe your phone from all your things
you could try
1: reset from settings, pushing the button (in the page where you find phone software version)
2 format: if you can enter format by powering on with volume down and camera button pressed
3 flash: if you can enter download mode by powering on with volume up and camera button pressed
here you have to check this thread in the forum and choose a rom
i'd say go with Samsung Omnia 7 Firmware XXJJ6 ALL PROVIDERS with tmobile uk csc
or Samsung Omnia 7 Firmware XXJL3 RETAIL UNITED KINGDOM
this is only my idea because I am not sure what's best for you in US
maybe some other user could help better
best of luck with your phone
Hello DJ,
Thank you so much for your help so far, I've tried everything you have suggested, but the main issue is that the computer will not detect the phone, even after installing the Samsung USB drivers. All I keep on getting is unknown device. On the XP desktop at work, I get the error message "USB Device not recognized" message, however the phone does charge, so obviously something is happening. I've tried different USB ports front and back, but no avail. I love this phone and I do not want to go back to an iPhone or an Android
try to be more specific, what did you try? soft reset? format?
if it's still not recognized i'm starting thinking it's an hardware problem and you have to bring it to repair center,
Hello DJ,
I did the reset of the phone by going to settings-about phone-then clicking on reset phone. Is there any way i can reset the phone to original OS then do the upgrades to Mango?

Hello DJ,
The problem is that Windows won't even detect the phone in download mode, not even a popup message comes up saying that device has been detected. At least when the phone is not in download mode, I get the message unknown device or USB device not recognized. Do I need to let it stay plugged in for like 10 minutes before Windows detects it when the phone is in download mode?
ok, I understand, I think the only way now is to go to a repair center I have no more ideas
It might as well be your computer, try another one before you seek professional help
Thank you DJ for taking the time to assist, it most certainly is frustrating because it truly is a great phone. I have tried to do the update on several different computers, but for all I get the same issue, USB device unrecognized I wish there was a way to truly reset the phone so that it goes back to the original OS and then I could update to 7.5
Hi everyone,
I just received at&t unlocked focus having rev 1.4 . I am not using this phone with at&t sim.
I am facing too many problems:
1. GPS is not working. GPSInfo says that location service is disabled, though it's enabled in settings. When I tried with samsung diagnosis app (##634## then *#1472365#), it says "location service is not supported on this device".
2.
A] Device is not updating to mango. Zune recognizes the device only when it's connected to computer and rebooted. After that zune works fine but when I try to update, I get error 800705b4 and sometimes 800706be.
B] Tried phone support tool but it says that device is not in "connect to pc" mode.
C] When tried manually updating via cab files using updatew.exe, it doesn't work.
Is there any way of updating it to mango? Also can just gps be fixed somehow?

I sensed something wrong with you PC.
Maybe you should reset your phone, and dial ##634# and enter *#7284#, switch to ZUNE SYNC.
