froyo ported onto iphone -.-

it has many issues currently, I've seen many try, I even saw Ipads running on Froyo, but yet again with many issues.....
but it's a good option for iPhone users to run Android

Let's be rational. There's probably 10 to 20 times as many iPhone owners as there are X10 owners, which comes with it a proportional increase in people developing for it.
You'd have a better point if it said "Apple released Android 2.2 before Sony Ericsson did for the X10."

nope, haven't seen anything like that...mmmhhh, but really, i love my X10 now that it's running 2.1, and i loved my X10 when it was running 1.6....it has this unique design which makes it actually look it a little more mature and sophisticated compared to the iPhone (no offence here, I had used an iPhone before I gave it to my girlfriend and bought an X10).....
besides, I think the fact that people are being eager to get froyo fully running on an iPhone somehow shows that they may not be completely satisfied with Apple's OS ;-)

trust me i had an iphone and the ios is just awful, jailbreaking isnt any better. Most jailbreak apps are real battery killers, and its hard to feel proud of your iphone when apple releases a newer better one every year, the iphone 4 is already lame and iphone forums are already discussing iphone 5 news and specs, thats just nuts

If you're serious about being angry that a company updates it's product line once a year, I'm kinda worried what's going to happen when you start looking at a new computer, camera, or television.

You've been able to install android off cydia for some time now. I know I did it on my iphone a few months back now. It is unusable though. There just aren't enough buttons on the iphone for it to work properly.

thats different, if se releases a new phone i wont care, i bought my phone online from at&t for 160 bucks and had it delivered to me, but when people freak out about the new iphone, wait in line for days, pay up to 400 bucks (credit cards only now, no more cash or debit will be excepted for newly released iphones), and then find out within a few months a newer better one is already being viewed by the fcc... well it gets a little frustrating

yea the iphone itself is a great product, but its the limbo of purchases that kill me. look up new iphone, pre order, wait in line, drop half a grand on launch day, repeat, repeat, repeat

You may have overlooked this, but as I said, I had been using an iPhone (for two years) before I got an X10...hence, I totally agree with you...all that jailbreaking here, jailbreaking there, and thus only being able to fully "unleash the phone's power" (yeah, a little bit of sarcasm in there) if you jailbreak it, is just pure crap....always being scared of the next update which will probably make it more difficult or even impossible to jailbreak the handset is so freaking annoying - thus, android ROCKS! (no offence to people who use an iPhone btw, just to clarify) ;D

My wife's iPad is realy lucky because I would break it from the first days if it was mine. I love the machine I hate the OS.
If there is an option to install Android on it I would definetely give it a try.

My bros iPhone is horrible. 3G cuts out, its not smooth and GPS doesn't work properly 4 times out of 10.
Although FroYo will set those poor iPhone owners free!

Same thing as well. And as a freshman in high school, I can't help but see more and more Iphone4s'. Is Android really that unpopular in the younger generation?

Because people under the age of 18 and over the age of 30 would be very confused, and you'd be seeing alot of white headphones.

I had a 40+ year old asking me if my old Motorola Cliq was an iPhone. He thinks the iPhone is the best phone out and he don't even know how to use a computer.

You can't stop the monster that is Apple marketing. You can only hope to educate the people one at a time, about the evil that is Apple, and especially iTunes. I try to let them know, that once you start using iTunes, you're married to Apple, and your media is now controlled by them.

This statement is verifiably incorrect. I used apple for about 5 years before I got my Mesmerize. As soon as I saw Android I couldn't wait until one came to my carrier and as soon as the good one came I bought it.

Well, dude thats because the iPhone is a pretty d*** good phone....now that doesn't justify people asking if the fascinate is an iphone, but it does explain the so called brainwashing. I had an iphone 4 before this, then I ended up moving to verizon and picked the fascinate because it was the best phone available at the time imo. Im not so sure me and my dad would have both gotten fascinate's if the iphone 4 was available at the time. I chose the fascinate because I wanted to try out the android platform and I'm loving it so far. When the iPhone 5 comes out its going to be a tough choice to choose an android phone over it.
The fascinate is fantastic as well but the iphone 4 beats it in battery life and screen resolution imo. If the superamoled+ is as good as they say it is, you can add the galaxy s 2 to the long list of phones I'll be looking at to buy next.
Having said all this, I envision Android and iphone/ios being neck and neck by next year(dual core/graphics/better battery life?)and thats good for all of us.

Sold my beloved note!!!!!!

So i just sold my white galaxy note that i loved so much!! The thing is that i realised that i use my smartphone 98% of the time for web browsing. So i sold it to make room for an ipad 3. I know yall probably saying that im crazy but i knew my note was going to b temporary until the Galaxy SIII was going to be released. i sold my ipad 2 a few weeks ago for the newest ipad but i spent the money lol. so now i have an old school flip phone that i love cause the battery last for days hahaha. But just wanted to share this and tell you guys have fun with the note, it is an incredible device!

I don't understand your logic. You are waiting for the S III when that will have a smaller screen than the note. How is that better for web browsing? maybe I misunderstood you.

lol. I just sold both my 4S and Ipad2 64GB 3G. 4S went to pay for most of my Gnote and the ipad to maybe an Ipad3.
I also sold my HP touchpad for a mini itx board. I'm building an undertv media PC with my old Q9450 quad core processor. I could not sell the processor for a good price so I figure I'ld use it for something. Tough to beat a 65watt quad core for a media pc.

To each their own....if you can hold your iPad 3 up to your ear and make phone calls, then I guess you made the right choice. Apple is about as corrupt a company as they come, however...and I refuse to touch anything they make...ever.

Wow you are 1 emotional fella. Yea i made a thread about ICS release on the note but it wasnt a rant it was impatience for ICS on the note. For someone who supports android and the open source youre very close minded. Reading your post i was laughing with my friends lol. Anyway i love tech stuff in general and i used to own the 3 first iphones. But when the nexus 1 came out i chose android for phone and never looked back. (Probably wont any time soon). But as far as tablet goes , in my opinion, the ipad is the clear winner. I like having an android phone and an ipad, as a consumer i get the best of both world and that what makes me happy But you probably dont understand that cause if you knew how to read and understand, i will get a Galaxy SIII which is guess what???? Android.

Especially in a closed ecosystem were nothing changes. Some people will buy anything for a name. These are the same people who feel absolutely ridiculous and ashamed when they see my huge assed Note, that I don't have to keep 6 inches from my face to be able to see.

I respect your opinion, apple is probably corrupt, but their not the only one. Lol no i dont plan on making calls with my ipad. I sold my ipad 2 and my phone for the note, a great device, but i tought it could replace both my phone and tablet but it isnt to me so i decided to sell it to get an ipad 3 and wait for the Galaxy SIII

SIII is rumored to have a 4.85in screen, that will be enough to be for Web browsing and multi-media entertainment. I might just get it myself. If it has a SAMOLED + display then I'm sold, hate this banding and the black blocks when viewing videos.

to each his own! God I hated the iPhone. I had 4 break on me They were crappy. But I have to say: they just worked. But wait! I haven't had a phone "not work" in years. So... I guess people can stop saying that. Yes, it's simple. But my roommate has a Blackberry 9900 (because I had one, and he loved it) and he was an iPhone 4 user, too, and was constantly frustrated about what they allowed and didn't allow him to do, multitasking, etc.
I understand why some people might want an iPhone or iPad. I personally dislike the iPad because it's just a GIANT iPhone with LESS features!
Regardless, I hope you enjoy your device By the time the SIII is released, the SIV will be in the making and then we'll all wait for that. And by the time they announce the SIV, the next device will be almost nearing its completion...

The note is just FANTASTIC. It's fast, stable (no crashes!), battery life is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much better than ANY OTHER (smart)phone! The camera is great. I love typing because it hardly ever makes any mistakes. I don't know what else to say I love this device.

W/o the iPhone we would've never gotten this far in mobile technology, there may be Apple haters, but we all have to admit that the iPhone started it all, and most if not all of us once thought that it was the best device in your life. And also why didn't your friend jailbreak his, there are much better things to that replace the iPhone's "multi-tasking", I forgot what they were, since I haven't used an iPhone in so long. BB should just go die in a ditch already.

Personally I will never consider having an iPhone just because I'll feel like being in a prison. You cant even have a widget, for god sake were in the 21st century...
The same way I don't like tablets, whether it's an android or apple. First of all you have to hold it with 2 hands, you have to carry it in a bag and finally its really annoying while browsing when you have to click on a link in the middle of the screen.
I read alleged specifications of the SGS3 and I don't think that I'll consider getting rid of my Note for it. Smaller screen, quad core yes but on the other hand we all know that it will take ages for developers to fully take advantage of it.

The love of Apple is so strong

Two weeks ago, I became a freshman at Saint Peter's University and upon entering there I noticed 3 out of every 5 people I see own an Iphone. Okay, that's to be expected when simple minds have to follow trends to progress. I have classes 5 days a week and every single day it's apple this or Iphone that. Yesterday in my Principles of Marketing class we discussed brand name and influence a company has on it's consumers. While discussing this another Apple example is brought about.
My teacher said the people of Apple are innovators:what:? Then a girl in my class, she's an iphone fangirl btw said " Apple is changing the charger jack, so you'll have to buy new charger." My teacher inserted see that's innovation. We discussed the iphone 5 and most said they will get it and never explained why. The fangirl said she's getting to say she have iphone 5 and will give her little brother the 4s "BECAUSE IT HAVE THE SAME IOS THE IPHONE 5 HAVE:banghead::banghead::banghead:"

When I as still at school I took one of the Apple stickers from my Shuffle and pit it on the back of my all black Dell Vostro, I would get all sorts of jealous looks that I had a black MBP and more than a few incredulous sneers/chuckles when they realized it was using a Dell. Great times

"Why are you going to get the iphone 5? I will be getting the LG Viper because it will be the first phone to ship in the US with a quadcore Snapdragon S4 which is based on the A15 architecture, along with next gen Adreno 320 graphics (which will most likely be outdone when samsung releases the next Mali GPU which btw Apple uses in its iPad) also with a 720p IPS panel with a brightness of 600 nits(pulled that one out my butt). Apple hasn't made any inovations since the iPhone 4 when it released the first cellphone with an IPS display (only because its 960x580 pixels, compared to 1280x720 pixels on todays androids). Also, almost all new androids have been shipping with LTE (might have to explain what that is to the iSheep) since october of 2011, which btw is around the time apple released the 4s which only had a dualcore a9 proprietary chip built by samsung and dual core Mali400x2 with absolutely no type of 4g networking to be found on the inside."
Then proceed to say "apple might unveil something new with the iPhone 5 but it will only be new relative to the iPhone 4s. It will only be catching up to the rest of android, especially considering HTC has a 1080p (that's 1920x1080 pixels Class) screen in the works. Now, please tell me what exactly has apple innovated on? They've even been playing catch up to android in the OS department since iOS 5 (then show notifications from android 2.1 circa 2009-10)"

Whether you go with the Galaxy S III or the upcoming LG Eclipse, both of those would be great phones for really showing of the power of android and iPhone alternatives. Both of these phones have some very impressive technologies in them especially compared to the iPhone who is falling behind. I don't know if you have been keeping up with any of the rumors or anything, but it looks like Apple still wont be implementing an NFC chip into their newest device, which will only throw them even farther behind for the future. There is also still the basis of how customizable android really is. Sure you can throw some new picture in the back round of your iPhone and you can change a few features here and there, but none of it compares to what you can do on other phone. You could walk in there everyday with a different ROM flashed and show them how you get exactly what you want. There doesn't have to be any settling or having the same thing as everyone else. We spend so much time on our phones these days, who wouldn't want their phone how they like it?

Ask them to explain how a new charging port is innovation. It isn't innovation is marketing. You change the port so you can sell a bunch of new accessories which consumers have to by in order to continue using the accessories they like on the new device. It's just a cash grab, not innovation.

You will never change them! What I have found is most apple worshipers and yes they are a cult, are very simple minded people. They want to be told how to use there product instead of having the freedom of doing what they want.
Your phone could do circles around there phone and they still don't care.
Anyways I don't think you will every win!

we are just a bunch of consumers and we should talk about technology in a non discrimation way without brand name....

Yea, as swiss said, your teachers shouldn't be using brand names and taking a side either way. My teachers are very careful about that. There are a number of kids with iPhones in my classes as well, and they all text the entire class. And every text message thread, on every phone, looks the same. Terrible.

I know we all here are android fan, still i support innovation in the area of Mobile technologies (Although Apple has made me sad due to recent BS they had done with Samsung).

Really no clue about the what...
On hardware I expect some flaming higher dpi screen and as rumors say, larger.... so saying their device goes large but not thick to make it more user friendly etc etc
Maybe something about camera, a few Mb and some faster shot or kinda
Ofc some software stuff we already have, or if we are lucky, something new that we can kang but no idea on a what!

Well, im interested to see what apple have included in the next upgrade! i would never have another iphone though.
I dont think it will be any more powerful than the s3, and from what i have seen it has about half an inch of extra screenage!!
I would be surprised if they unlocked the OS to compete with android and the customisation, but i doubt that will happen!
maybe apple will introduce bluetooth file sharing!!!!!! every other phone has it, why not on iphones? there is a cheap £50 phone at tesco's which texts calls and takes photos. i think its a cheap rubbish Alcatel phone. it has bluetooth.
ah well, ill just stick with what i know and like. Samsung!!!!!

yeh im looking forward for iphone 5 but just for interesting. Had iphone 4s, phone maybe isnt so bad, but operating system is totally crap. Couldnt even send files over bluetooth...... android ftw

Here's what I know already:
1) It will still be highly dependant of iTunes.
2) Users will have to wait maybe months for a jailbreak.
3) The OS will basically still look the same as it did in 2007.
4) Still won't be able to backup the device on the memory card (ala cwm).
5) It will still have only one button - no dedicated back or menu keys.
6) You still won't be able to Bluetooth apps / movies / music to other phones.
7) Out of the box it won't just work until it's activated.
8) No removable battery of external memory card support.
9) I could seriously go on and on and on. But I've wasted enough time on crapple.
Please understand, I actually also own an iphone but once you've tasted android, ios is a major pain in the behind. Unless you are a simple person who find it difficult to do anything other than swype left to right.
Man I haven't tinkered with my iPhone since last year. I'm just bored of it and find it cumbersome to do anything on it. Believe me, it works great for messaging and taking / making calls.
I'm still on an older firmware because upgrading would mean hours and hours or restoring and re-downloading hacks, if they still work.
What pisses me off most is all the hype and media attention it gets. The S3 will still be a much better phone but still no media reports about it, on TV at least. Here in Australia all the major news networks have been talking about it's release for a week. Even today there was an ad for the morning news, which will feature the new iphone. Apple have bought out the media I think.

I hope I'm wrong though, and Apple blows our minds with some awesome innovation and declare it creative commons. Man that'll sure be surprising

I am actually waiting till the iphone 5 hits the streets, so i can see how many people like being held back in terms of technological evolution when they buy an iphone 5.

Even that I dont beleive it beats the GT-I9305. 4.8 Screen 4G, 2GB ram Quad Core. Only thing it will beat it with is the Battery.and I doubt very much it wil be that High.
So No I dont beleive the new Iphone 5 will beat the New GS3 GT-I9305
and U can guess which one I am getting

The only thing that Apple that have done a great thing that is keep up to date. Samsung never promise on time.

I know this is Galaxy s III GENERAL THREAD.. And please look at the first post.. It says "IPhone 5 will make Galaxy SIII shame" that's why i started this post to check if that's at all true (IMO NO WAY).
Chill.

No led no NFC no blue tooth or wifi xfer. Still tied to itunes. Thats enough to put any techy off.
