froyo ported onto iphone -.-

it has many issues currently, I've seen many try, I even saw Ipads running on Froyo, but yet again with many issues.....
but it's a good option for iPhone users to run Android

Let's be rational. There's probably 10 to 20 times as many iPhone owners as there are X10 owners, which comes with it a proportional increase in people developing for it.
You'd have a better point if it said "Apple released Android 2.2 before Sony Ericsson did for the X10."

nope, haven't seen anything like that...mmmhhh, but really, i love my X10 now that it's running 2.1, and i loved my X10 when it was running 1.6....it has this unique design which makes it actually look it a little more mature and sophisticated compared to the iPhone (no offence here, I had used an iPhone before I gave it to my girlfriend and bought an X10).....
besides, I think the fact that people are being eager to get froyo fully running on an iPhone somehow shows that they may not be completely satisfied with Apple's OS ;-)

trust me i had an iphone and the ios is just awful, jailbreaking isnt any better. Most jailbreak apps are real battery killers, and its hard to feel proud of your iphone when apple releases a newer better one every year, the iphone 4 is already lame and iphone forums are already discussing iphone 5 news and specs, thats just nuts

If you're serious about being angry that a company updates it's product line once a year, I'm kinda worried what's going to happen when you start looking at a new computer, camera, or television.

You've been able to install android off cydia for some time now. I know I did it on my iphone a few months back now. It is unusable though. There just aren't enough buttons on the iphone for it to work properly.

thats different, if se releases a new phone i wont care, i bought my phone online from at&t for 160 bucks and had it delivered to me, but when people freak out about the new iphone, wait in line for days, pay up to 400 bucks (credit cards only now, no more cash or debit will be excepted for newly released iphones), and then find out within a few months a newer better one is already being viewed by the fcc... well it gets a little frustrating

yea the iphone itself is a great product, but its the limbo of purchases that kill me. look up new iphone, pre order, wait in line, drop half a grand on launch day, repeat, repeat, repeat

You may have overlooked this, but as I said, I had been using an iPhone (for two years) before I got an X10...hence, I totally agree with you...all that jailbreaking here, jailbreaking there, and thus only being able to fully "unleash the phone's power" (yeah, a little bit of sarcasm in there) if you jailbreak it, is just pure crap....always being scared of the next update which will probably make it more difficult or even impossible to jailbreak the handset is so freaking annoying - thus, android ROCKS! (no offence to people who use an iPhone btw, just to clarify) ;D

My wife's iPad is realy lucky because I would break it from the first days if it was mine. I love the machine I hate the OS.
If there is an option to install Android on it I would definetely give it a try.

I will never buy an iPhone no matter what os it is running.
My bros iPhone is horrible. 3G cuts out, its not smooth and GPS doesn't work properly 4 times out of 10.
Although FroYo will set those poor iPhone owners free!

Possibly buying a Fascinate

Well, I was going to buy one of the new 4G phones because as it was rumored the Thunderbolt was supposed to be available this weekend.. but it is not to be I suppose SOOO..
I'm looking to buy a Fascinate off contract in order to save my upgrade.
Just wondering if there is anything I should know? I have an Incredible and I know depending on your model number it's either AMOLED or SLCD. Now I know all Fascinates are SAMOLED, but I was just using that as an example of something I would need to know if I was buying an Incredible.. if that makes any sense at all.

As far as I know there are no differences in the fascinates out here beyond best buys unique white model.

If you're going to end up upgrading to a 4G phone soon after you buy the Fascinate, then why get it at all? It's just a waste of money when you already have an Incredible. Just wait for a good phone to come out.

Yeah, if I hadn't just gotten the Fascinate I would probably prefer to wait for the i520. The new SAMOLED+ looks even more amazing than SAMOLED, and I'm probably one of the few who wishes the Fascinate had a bigger screen.

I have a fascinate and an incredible right now. The fascinate is better hardware wise. The only thing keeping me on the incredible is cyanogen.
The fascinate is STILL stuck on 2.1 and while it performs well it still feels like it's missing something. I also miss the track ball and the camera of the incredible. And the name is much better IMO

Well I can get a Fascinate for cheap without wasting my upgrade since a friend has it, and we need another phone in the family since my sister broke her original droid (it held up admirably for a good while).

None of the new phones introduced at CES will be released for several months...

Last I heard, the HTC Thunderbolt, an LTE phone, was going to be released later this month. I could be wrong though.

At the press conference today they mentioned that all of the ten new devices they showed will be available the first half of the year, and "some as early as March"... So we are probably looking at April-May-June for most LTE devices

Guys no need to get angry. The guy asked for an opinion on the fascinate. And I think he needs one from someone who came from an Iphone on ATT to Samsung Fascinate on Verizon. What can he learn about a phone from ONLY people who are stuck with it........... Nothing. I think a negative review helps alot.
The fascinate has good hardware. But ive always said that android lacks in the applications department. Plain and simple.
Be smart the IPHONE is getting released on February 3rd. Wait try them both out....Then decide for yourself. Whats good for one person isnt good for another.
Another negative point SAMSUNG has the worst reputation with updating there android phones. Just a thought.

However, his question was not about which overall phone he should get. Just if there were anything specific to know about within the Fascinate family.
As for your opinion, its just that, you're personal opinion that only fits you. You were used to an iPhone and the apps you had. You got a completely different product that you are less happy with because you probably can't find the same apps or ones that worked comparably to what you had. Does that mean its automatically inferior, no, we as humans are just habitual and dislike change.
As for hardware, yeah, the iPhone's front camera and Apple's specific image software to tip the scales for the iPhone4 over the Fascinate. However, the EVO 4G easily bests the iPhone4.
If he were to wait on a different phone, he should do as others said and keep the Incredible and wait until later this year when a slew of LTE phones drop that ALL destroy iPhone4 and probably 5 as it will not be 4G.
As for iOS vs Android, meh, personal opinion. I like Android better as a techy guy and love the better inclusion of Google products. Again, we humans are habitual and my short stints with friends iPhones really don't do much.
For me, I'll stick with a far more open option that is rapidly surpassing anything iDevice has offered. Plus, I can create my own apps for free and without having to buy a Mac.

16 months. It took them 16 months to upgrade the camera to what the DroidX was using over a year ago. 16 months to upgrade to a dual core processor like every single phone released in the last 6 months. 16 months and all they come up with is the iPhone 4...s? Really? That's just depressing.

i love android but to be honest the 4s is has to be the most impressive hardware phone wise right now. they basicly put an ipad 2 in a phone with a smaller screen. with all the graphic pusing power of of ipad. im impressed. late to the party but i guess the party didnt start until they got there.
so now im waiting to see what samsung and the rest will do to catch up or surpass them the prime may do it with the improvement to there processor and gpu looks like we got to ride this one out

The processor and camera is the only good thing about it. But the SGSII is par with that already

was disappointed they didn't up the screen size.
I'm gonna be honest right now, if they make the iphone 5 with a 4" screen, I'll be getting one. I love my vibrant but it sucks I had to root it and put bionix on it to make it useable. now I have zendroid which is just as good as bionix with slightly better battery. that's only 2 roms out of all of them that I found acceptable. all the gingerbread roms are nice but the battery life is such **** and it's not as stable.

Apple did the one thing that would allow the high end android phone to remain clearly superior..."stick with the tiny screen"
It is painfully obvious when using one of the larger screen phones such as the Galaxy SII that the bigger screen is just a better interface in every possible way.
I think you really have to have your eyes closed to compare somthing like the galaxy SII and the iphone, and choose Iphone.

Haha very true! Recently one of my colleague bought TWO iPhone 4Ss (one for him and another for his wife!). He was boosting like he has got a gold mine before I told him about GS2. He started telling that some Chinese phones even have TV tuners
I couldn't stop laughing at his ignorance that he was comparing SGS phones to Chinese replicas! Realized that he is just a small kid who never BOTHERED exploring the market to understand what he is going for. Thats what I call true iPhonetic!

Seriously tho, it won't be long till alot of them realize Android is the real king.

For all you Android fanboys - stop trying to prove a point. Android is good for people who want control over their device and aren't afraid to tinker with stuff. iOS is good for people who don't care, and just want their phone to work straight out of the box.
Android is getting more intuitive with ICS, but its still not as intuitive for new users as iOS. Deal with it. I absolutely love my SGS2 and Android, but I'm not about to fool myself (or anyone else) that Android is right for everyone.

I still have a 3gs which my sis gave me. I still play with games and use it as an ipod, also it can be used as an emergency fone ( you dont say!). Iphones are more fitted to people who just want a phone that works, games, entertainment. Android phones are for people who isn't afraid to muck around with their ****s. iOS and Android are both equally good and fitted for different purpose.

+1. Best comment on here. Stock galaxy s2 has nothing on a stock(not jail broken) ip4s. But im into tinkering thats why the iphone isnt for me.

Iphone is the best smartphone in the world. Even the first iphone is much faster and smoother than the cheap plasticky SGSII. Glass is much more stronger even than titanium, and much costlier, that's why other manufacturers don't afford to use it.
Previous iphone had the 4G's, the Wi-Fis and sh!t and was cool, any fool can realize that the new iphone has 4Ses and not just 2 as the Galaxy, hence is twice as faster!
Android not good, it's only for rocket scientists.
Just to call someone you need to read "Android for Dummies, 3rd Edition" - chapter 10 "How can I make a phone call" and then read FAQ section: "How do I end a phone call".
Installing an app is covered in Chapter 45, Section 18 - screen by screen instructions with drawings.

iPhones are more of a status symbol than anything else. Apple give you a phone with pretty basic features and you will love it because it has a little badge on it. Samsung give you a phone with the capabilities of a mid-range PC. I'm not for or against both, I own a PC and a Mac, an S2 and an iPad. It's personal preference at the end of the day.
If anyone knows of a Winterboard equivalent for Android please let me know!

who the hell uses siri anyways i have about 6 friends that have iphones but don't use siri that much or at all.

As much as your Market is improving, I still think that is has a long way to go before it can reach the likes of the app store in term of quality! In term of quantity it's there but the apps on IOS are so much F***ING BETTER!!!

It puzzles me why when ever somebody starts a discussion like this a bunch of apple fanboys show up? Are you patrolling the internet looking for somebody who might insult your beloved icon?

The love of Apple is so strong

Two weeks ago, I became a freshman at Saint Peter's University and upon entering there I noticed 3 out of every 5 people I see own an Iphone. Okay, that's to be expected when simple minds have to follow trends to progress. I have classes 5 days a week and every single day it's apple this or Iphone that. Yesterday in my Principles of Marketing class we discussed brand name and influence a company has on it's consumers. While discussing this another Apple example is brought about.
My teacher said the people of Apple are innovators:what:? Then a girl in my class, she's an iphone fangirl btw said " Apple is changing the charger jack, so you'll have to buy new charger." My teacher inserted see that's innovation. We discussed the iphone 5 and most said they will get it and never explained why. The fangirl said she's getting to say she have iphone 5 and will give her little brother the 4s "BECAUSE IT HAVE THE SAME IOS THE IPHONE 5 HAVE:banghead::banghead::banghead:"
My wtf face when she said that:what::sly:
Now I ask, what is someone like me who love android to do in this Apple crazed school?

When they get their Iphone 5 get the GS3 then show them how it is done LOL then show them your Epic and show them you are running the same OS on your 2 year old phone as this brand new one LOL. then dare them to do that with Iphone 3

I could do it with my Epic now and show them some Android witchery that made steve jobs start his witch hunt lol

When I as still at school I took one of the Apple stickers from my Shuffle and pit it on the back of my all black Dell Vostro, I would get all sorts of jealous looks that I had a black MBP and more than a few incredulous sneers/chuckles when they realized it was using a Dell. Great times

I see this at my high school. White iPhones...everywhere! BUT I also saw some White Samsung Galaxy S3's at my school
But why do teenagers need the latest smartphone? All we do is text, Facebook, Instagram, and calls.

I will be getting the LG Viper because it will be the first phone to ship in the US with a quadcore Snapdragon S4 which is based on the A15 architecture, along with next gen Adreno 320 graphics (which will most likely be outdone when samsung releases the next Mali GPU which btw Apple uses in its iPad) also with a 720p IPS panel with a brightness of 600 nits(pulled that one out my butt). Apple hasn't made any inovations since the iPhone 4 when it released the first cellphone with an IPS display (only because its 960x580 pixels, compared to 1280x720 pixels on todays androids). Also, almost all new androids have been shipping with LTE (might have to explain what that is to the iSheep) since october of 2011, which btw is around the time apple released the 4s which only had a dualcore a9 proprietary chip built by samsung and dual core Mali400x2 with absolutely no type of 4g networking to be found on the inside."
Then proceed to say "apple might unveil something new with the iPhone 5 but it will only be new relative to the iPhone 4s. It will only be catching up to the rest of android, especially considering HTC has a 1080p (that's 1920x1080 pixels Class) screen in the works. Whether you go with the Galaxy S III or the upcoming LG Eclipse, both of those would be great phones for really showing of the power of android and iPhone alternatives. Both of these phones have some very impressive technologies in them especially compared to the iPhone who is falling behind. I don't know if you have been keeping up with any of the rumors or anything, but it looks like Apple still wont be implementing an NFC chip into their newest device, which will only throw them even farther behind for the future. There is also still the basis of how customizable android really is. Sure you can throw some new picture in the back round of your iPhone and you can change a few features here and there, but none of it compares to what you can do on other phone. You could walk in there everyday with a different ROM flashed and show them how you get exactly what you want. There doesn't have to be any settling or having the same thing as everyone else. We spend so much time on our phones these days, who wouldn't want their phone how they like it?

Ask them to explain how a new charging port is innovation. It isn't innovation is marketing. You change the port so you can sell a bunch of new accessories which consumers have to by in order to continue using the accessories they like on the new device. It's just a cash grab, not innovation.

You will never change them! What I have found is most apple worshipers and yes they are a cult, are very simple minded people. They want to be told how to use there product instead of having the freedom of doing what they want.
Your phone could do circles around there phone and they still don't care.
Anyways I don't think you will every win!

Yea, as swiss said, your teachers shouldn't be using brand names and taking a side either way. My teachers are very careful about that. There are a number of kids with iPhones in my classes as well, and they all text the entire class. And every text message thread, on every phone, looks the same. Terrible.
