Where to put Apps? - Legend General

Hey guys just got my Incredible. It's stock but with that market upgrade. I download a fan made app online. When I plug it in disk drive mode theres 3 drives that pop up with it and I have no clue where they go. Can someone help me out?

Ask the people in the Incredible forum, not the Legend's. I didn't even know it had an SD card drive, just a lot of internal memory. It also isn't GSM which screws things up.

Wtf!

I just got my droid 2 in the mail today and I'm disappointed, to say the least...first off I'm comin over from tmobile where I've had nearly every phone they have released over the last 2 years. The first thing I thought when I booted this droid 2 was how familiar evrything looked. Then I realized they put motoblur on it(boo!). So I feel like I'm using a moto cliq again...I thought that since this thing has a 1 ghz processor it would run a lot smoother than the cliq, but that has not been the case. It takes almost 10 seconds for the camera to open which is unacceptable. It hangs up doing the simplest things, such as opening and closing the app drawer. I planned on getting the droid x, but after reading several side by side comparisons, I decided on the 2. I hate to say this but I'm really thinking I made the wrong choice. I believe this to be a nice piece of hardware, just not right for me....
Anyone have any suggestions to make my experience better? I'm open to rooting but only if there is a 100% fully functional rom out there...my last tmobile phone is a vibrant and I don't know if you guys are aware of what's gone on over in those threads the last few days, but its been interesting to say the least

Hoax...not sure. But there was suddenly a fully functioning 2.2 rom. Its very nice. Working everything. Takes the vibrant to the next level...I wanted to get away from tmobile for a while and as SOON as I commited to verizon, BAM!! But I have 30 days to send this phone back. I probably will. I installed launcherpro and its very smooth, but I don't like to use a 3rd party app to make my phone work the way I think it should...my vibrant is a trooper...

There are a few great ROM's floating around here that are waaaaay better than stock. I'm running Fission (I really like it!) right now but There's a new one by Matt4542 coming soon that's supposed to be AOSP so check 'em out and flash a few and see if you like it with overclock before you take it back.

Sweet! I'm pretty sure that this thing would be a beast overclocked to 1.2! And I remember that its the dam blur launcher that lags, and its dumb! Does wireless tether work on this thing if you root? Without paying the 2o to verizon?...

Is the internal memory on this thing read only? When I hook up to my computer I can open the external and transfer files but only look at the internal...or am I missing something?

Um not sure I can't remember what it's like to not be rooted. lol.
I think you either need to be rooted or use ADB.
As for launcher's I've heard good things about LauncherPro but I use ADW. and Home switcher to set my choice to default (so the home soft key doesn't go back to stock.
You can wireless tether for free but as of yet the only infrastructure mode (as opposed to Ad-hoc) you can get is through the Verizon app but thankfully someone found out how to hack it. (check the Droid 2 Information Directory in Android Development for the D2)
Hey guys, so I rooted and bought one of those overclocking apps from the market. I know that quads and linpack mean nothin to some people, but I like to use them to gauge my own phones performance. I overclocked to 1.2 and my benchmark went from 865 ms to 675. My linpack is almost 17. But, my quads are down to 800! What the hell is that about? Are those overclock apps just crap?

*EDIT: I rebooted and ran a quad...1627! thats what im talkin about! and i didnt even flash a rom or a kernel. My issue now is the internal memory is still read only. How do i fix that? Can it be fixed?

Can you at least read data with apps such as Gallery and Astro File Manager? On my Droid Incredible I can copy pictures and ringtones from my computer directly to the internal memory (emmc), but with the Droid 2 I can only mount the SD Card. This is kinda annoying...I've been searching old threads but haven't found an answer.
I can move them between internal and external sd, but that's a freakin headache. On my vibrant when I mount sd to computer, I get two windows that open and I can transfer directly to internal from pc. I can't believe they (motorola) really give you 8 gigs for apps only. Everything is saved to external by default. Except apps.

Are you serious??? Wow, I'm glad I decided to stay with the Dinc as my main phone. So do you use any particular app for moving stuff between internal and the SD card? Or you do it within an adb shell? I don't see the point of making the internal memory only available for apps...I would never need that many space for apps...I rather use it for music.

I use root explorer personally. Just cus it gives me access to everything. I barely use 100mb for apps so I see no reason to have 8 gigs for apps.

Cool. I guess for now I'll just forget that I have internal memory in the phone. I'm looking into building my own AOSP ROM, so this is something definitely looking into fixing

That would be awesome....so I overclocked to 1.45 this morning just to see what my battery life would be like and I notice no difference. Im not buyin this overclock app works as advertised. If my minimum is 400 mhz, there would be more battery used when the phone is sleep. That has been the case with every other phone at least.

There are a few things you can try,
1. Plug the phone in and see if your computer will recognize it. If it does it might give you an error that its messed up and will ask you if you want to fix it.
2. Get an external memory card reader (Tmobile stores sell them for under $5 usually). Put the memory card in there and see if your computer can read it. Same thing as above see if your computer can repair it.
3. If all else fails there is a program I've used before called Recuva that can recover delete pictures. I've had good luck before with the program.
All is not lost but you have to realize they may be gone. Next time back them up on your computer or online, especially if you hack your phone a lot.
I've been having the same issue since I switched to a different SD card, try going to recovery> plug your phone to comp> mounts and storage> mount USB storage>
Sometimes all the files are still intact, so hopefully its the same case with you.
You might have to flash back to stock to get this SD card mount issue fixed, and if you're switching to another SD card, make sure to copy ALL the files to the new one, including the ".Files" causes less problems. At least to my observation.
Good Luck.

Vibrant flashable USB drive?

Hey guys, I was wondering if it's possible to use turn my vibrant memory card into a flashabe USB drive. I'm trying to download things such as Ubuntu and windows 7.
if you are talking about your internal memory i would highly advise against that, it might be safe but im fairly certain it isnt, now you could turn the external sd into a flashable drive and use the vibrant just to store it but you are better off just buying a cheap 15 dollar thumbdrive from your local electronics store. IMO much safer and less chance of hurting your vibrant.
Ok thanks man. I was literally 5 seconds away from potentially messing up my phone. Ill just use my moms USB stick.
I download programs to my Vibrant for storage all the time--Just make sure you do NOT un-zip them while on the phone.
It is perfectly safe so long as you don't try to flash it on the phone lol ....I use it as a flash drive all the time aswell.

He's not talking about making it a storage drive. He's talking about messing with embrace and partitioning/formatting stuff, like making a USB windows 7 install drive, or w USB Ubuntu livecd which will mess up your phone trying to do that.

Will we see a rogue type project of the new cwm?

Hey guys I loved Team Rogue recovery it was the best recovery for my tf. Now cwm touch is out I really like that but only supporting internal SD among other things I guess you can't really have the best of both worlds.
Do you guys think there will be a rogue type project or version of the new touch recovery?
Do you think if there was it could even have some new goodies like backup/restore from external HDD support(sounds out of reach but you get my drift)?

I agree so much with this. Thats why Im using the version that supports external SD.
If something goes wrong and the device wont start or something, its always easier to just plug the SD card into the PC than messing around with adb etc.
Personally I dont see the reason the external SD support isnt there in all versions... Could someone shed some light on that ?

living without a SD?

yes im asking this. im on a HTC Desire Z now with a sd card and i wanted to know if its a big difference to live with or without a SDcard. is it do-able? i cant choose bitween the s3 and nexus 4
The SD card doesn't make a difference, you just have to figure out if you can live with 8/16 GB of storage. The answer is probably yes, if you are willing to use streaming services (google music, netflix, etc.)
I personally would not be able to live with SD cards in my life. I will have to end myself soon because Dropbox and Google Drive are taking over.
Oh well...

of course you can, just plug the phone into your computer and it gets recognized as a mass storage device...
I think 16GB will be more than sufficient for me. If it isn't than I will just get a USB OTG cable and use the current Micro SD card that I have. I have an adapter that I can plug the SD card into that allows it to be plugged into a USB port. So effectively giving myself access to expandable SD storage
Probably won't need it, but that's my plan.

eh man i am not complaining
Came from a G2 (with microSD card slot) to a Gnex, I have to say I didn't miss the card even a bit. 16GB is fine since I use Google music for streaming, and that's the majority part of storage. I don't use GNex's camera that much. I have a Canon D550 and there isn't a phone camera that could produce pictures even similar in quality.
You might want to mange your space a little, like deleting unwanted backups, not having a million Titanium backups, but it's manageable.
I must admit, although I would rather have a micro-SD slot, its really not a feature I'm over worried about in terms of storage. What concerns me is whether it increases the risk of flashing roms etc to the phone. I you brick you phone, is it not going to make it more difficult to unbrick it? Or can adb always push stuff to the phone one way or another?
Also, just to confirm, you personal data stored internally (in what I assume will be called the sdcard folder) is retained each time you wipe your phone, right?

intern is not your SD
I've got a GS3 with a 32gb SD Card (as well as the internal at 16gb) and now a 16gb Nexus 7. I have to be honest and say it does bug me. If you download nightlies and make a lot of Nandroids then your going to suffer to get used to it. There is no way I would recommend an 8gb. I travel a lot on flights and that is when I really miss the storage for music and films, but I do have the phone to fall back on. That said, there are plenty of iSheep out there that don't seem to struggle and Google Drive and Google Music are awesome services. Perhaps I'm the one that should be more tolerant.

Hey mazdarati2,
I came from the Droid Incredible to the Galaxy Nexus and I can tell you that having a large internal memory rather than the SD card slot is really not a big deal. At first, I thought I would miss it also, but I really wanted the Nexus. The only downside comes if you have a tendency to work with experimental/unstable ROMs, which can corrupt the filesystem on the memory and you will have to reformat and push the factory image with fastboot. When you do this, the SD memory partition gets formatted as well, which is a bummer and if you ever had any problems like that on phones with a physical SD card, you wouldn't have that problem. For the average user that doesn't use more than 8-16GB of space, it will cause no problems, in fact, it will be better because it gets rid of system confusion when saving pictures/videos/other files and then finding them when you connect to your PC. I hope this helps and sways your decision towards getting a nexus 4. It's a great phone and if you're on pre-paid, it will save you a lot of money in the long run! Good Luck!

The reason I assumed 'sdcard' folder, is because the LG 4X HD, which has both sd and 16GB internal storage places all of your user files in the sdcard directory independent of whether you are using an sdcard. The actual sdcard files are stored in '/sdcard/external_sdcard' which I must admit I found slightly odd.
