adobe flash 11 released for android - Eee Pad Transformer General

anyone notice adobe released flash 11 just recently? doing the test video on YouTube shows 'accelerated video decoding' on 720p video

I did notice an update not long ago but haven't tested anything. Any improvement is a good thing.

this seems to have killed my playback... doesn't say video accererated and now i get 7fps on 720p...

It broke flash on Opera for me. And there is zero hardware acceleration on the stock browser. Nice job, Adobe.
Don't update.
Revolver 3.5.2

Same here; flash player 11 does not work on Honeycomb 3.2.1 and Transformer.
Opera it just comes up with a black area
With Stock Browser it crashes.
Now I need to find 10.3 apk
I found a 10.3.186.3 apk
EDIT: I installed Dolphin for Pad and Flash 11 workis in it.

Makes adverts on youtube flicker and flash while watching a windowed video
Fullscreen 480p - watchable
720p and 1080p bad framerates, more like watching a slideshow

Thanks for the news. I'll wait a little longer before updating Flash !

Seems like Honeycomb 3.2.1 or whatever the last Asus update was, had a different implementation of flash playback where it would pass the video on to the video player. This version of flash crashes in the default browser but I was able to play Avatar 720p fine in Maxthon.

Working fine on mine with flash update today and latest Asus update last week, playing 720 and latest 1080 in stock browser on YouTube, got rid of opera as the update before last sorted out the web browser, still very slight lag typing on here but much better.

Just updated. Fps in youtube test video actually dropped to 23-26 in 720p, but the real 720p videos became smoother, same for very complex flash sites. Using stock browser.

Can't even get this to instal on Prime 2.0.1, tells me it's an incompatible update.

updated on stock transformer
hbogo.com is still crappy
- video starts out with low quality
- then, it changes to HD which looks great for 10 seconds and then slideshow begins
I don't have a problem streaming stuff from hbogo.com with the HP Touchpad. From start to finish, it plays flawlessly.
Touchpad flash >>> transformer flash

I think the installation of Flash 11 breaks the newest implementation of flash 3.2.1. Remember how flash videos would load with a swirling blue honeycomb style circle and the video controls looked more like the honeycomb video player? Even if you uninstall version 11 and install 10.3, you can't get this back.
Anyone know how to restore the old implementation?

This is now the reason why Mr. Jobs said 'fu' to adobe. I don't care if this is a honeycomb thing, its rediculous

I traded email with an adobe engineer regarding this issue. He provided a fix for the browser crashing that worked for me. Clear browser data. This will kill Flash Player's config.data file and force it to re download, but you'll lose your bookmarks and cookies, etc. I restarted the tablet and when you next run the browser Flash Player will re-download it's config data from the server at next launch. They also said that they don't support Opera — just the stock browser.

OK, per Android Police, this version of Adobe doesn't have hardware acceleration!
" Unfortunately, the latest blog post from Adobe indicates that 2D and 3D graphics rendering through Stage 3D will only be available on Windows, Mac OS X and connected TVs. Apparently, a "production release" of Flash Player 11 with support for Stage 3D will be available for Android, Apple iOS and BlackBerry in an "upcoming release""

Naturally, being the replacement for the well-known Samsung i9000 Galaxy S, the Galaxy S II has to fit the very large shoes of its predecessor. And judging by the initial impressions from quickly playing around with the device – it does pretty well. The user interface is ridiculously snappy and the phone, despite its mammoth size, feels alive and light.
And just to give you a taste of what kind of performance we are talking about, we’ve prepared a short video of the Galaxy S II playing a 720p HD YouTube video straight within the stock Android browser.

Most people don't know it, but 720p youtube videos play fine on my SGS with 2.3.3 as long as I don't use the flash player from the market. The SGS II is going to be on another level I'm sure, but 720p flash files are already conquered.

Then how do you play them ?
It comes with a pre installed flash player. Which i suppose, like the atrix's own, is optimized specifically for the galaxy s.
I have a captivate right now, and it's running 2.2, and whilst it can play 720p youtube videos, they are choppy, so not much use. More than likely however, it will be able to play it more smoothly when a T&t rolls out the gingerbread update for it. If they ever plan to. =.=
No you don't understand there is a trick to play 720p flash videos butterly smooth (even Underclocked at 800Mhz btw) on a Galaxy S running froyo or up, he was not talking bout playing it straight within the browser. I just asked him to figure out if he really know this trick or not

It largely depends on the bit rate of the video. I could make a video that has a resolution of 480X272 that even the SGS II could not play. Bit rate is...not everything, but most things, with video.
Also, it sounds more like you're viewing the HTML 5 version of it than the Flash version, but IDK.
I was going to wait for the G2x. IDK now. Is this coming to t-mobile?

Simply put - yes. Not using the flash version from the market. Both HD videos from gametrailers and 720p videos from gsmarena play fine.
EDIT: It's actually running the 10.1 version of the flash player
@ tou
There is stutter for 480p videos. But It is only present at the start, due to the loading and I guess the cpu getting ready. After the start, it plays like any other flash video.
Yes the G2X is for TMobile although the specs of the SGS II surpass any device announced to date.

Adobe Flash no longer developed for mobile platforms

http://www.zdnet.com/blog/perlow/ex...lash-refocuses-efforts-on-html5-updated/19226
I don't know what this means for the future but one main advantage Android 2.2 & higher always had over IOS was full Adobe Flash player. Videos, games & more. Listening to the radio I always hear "you can listen to our station online by downloading our app from Itunes"...Or I can just use Android 2.2 or higher, go right to their website and stream it to my phone just as I would on my PC, no app needed.
Hopefully this means more sites will adopt HTML5 and Adobe Flash will go the way of Realplayer.
Oh well....flash never ran good on android phones. I have seen most gingerbread phones with dual core processors still struggling with heavy flash loaded web pages (galaxy S2 seems the only exception). My question is does android support HTML5, which seems to be the future?

I agree it isn't PERFECT, but with the recent release of Flash 11 for Android I was hoping future Android phones would improve so that Flash ran as smoothly as on my PC. It was nice showing all the fangirls how I could listen to streaming radio stations and watch videos and sports highlights exactly as they appear on a PC. Meanwhile they are scratching their heads wondering how come all they ever get is mobile websites on their jesus phone. Guess they need an app for that.

If by Flash you mean ads, yes, Flash ads work beautifully in Opera Mobile 11. Any other Flash content (videos, games, streaming) doesn't work in Opera. Stock browser in Froyo handles full Flash content the fastest.

Using MIUI browser/Dolphin, and as for the fact, opera, flash videos work without lag, perfectly. maybe its you doing something differently? Also for me, flash hasn't been dependent on which firmware i'm on, i've used 2.1,2.2, and currently on 2.3 and it's always been smooth.

No he wasn't IMO. Considering Flash was somewhat doomed anyway (not just on mobile devices), I blame Adobe for not having the balls to break backwards compatibility (i.e. (throwing a hail mary pass) with earlier flash versions. Had they done this and then turned on HW Acceleration by default in recent versions (instead of leaving it for developers to do - if they even knew it was available / posssible) Flash would likely performed much better across the board. The sites broken by the backward compatibility changes would either wither and die (good riddance) or be fixed thus improvement the state of Flash for all involved. At least, that's how I think it could have gone. Instead it would seem Flash will slip into further irrelevance (I don't expect it to die any time soon) due to Adobe's cowardice.
Flash has always been terrible on mobiles. Flash Lite was perfect. Full Flash is a travesty. Its novelty wore.off very fast for me. I'm just pissed that now I have to deal with no flash instead of gimped flash.

Truthfully I don't think it's THAT big a deal. You can still access Web content with Android 2.2 or higher that Iphone users can't (I can go to FOX.COM and watch Family Guy, sorry Iphone, you can't do that). Adobe has stated that they will be focusing on games and Adobe AIR. Maybe more and more websites will stop using flash for streaming and use HTML5 instead eliminating the need for flash altogther.
As others have stated Flash for mobes is a resource hog and therefore it's not something I use extensively on my phone. I find myself browsing mobile versions of websites 90% of the time because they load much, much faster. I just like having the OPTION of switching from mobile to full desktop version because sometimes mobile websites are missing content that's available on desktop versions.
I also like not having to depend on proxy browsers such as Bolt or Skyfire which were unreliable when I had my Windows Mobile phone.
I guess the questions are:
1. Will future version of Android stop including Adobe Flash Player?
2. Will websites eventually start switching over to HTML5 and dump Flash? I think this is the likely scenario but it'll probably take years.

Flash lite is perfect...if you love viewing ads, that's all it's good for. You won't get videos or games to work. I had flash lite on Windows Mobile 6 and Android 2.1 so I know.
That was an old version of flash lite. It gets updated to support later versions of flash video. I could view a ron of videos on my vibrant before the Froyo update. Not only does flash hog resources and battery, it also destroys browser performance.

I agree, its pretty snappy and it feels like it should have been there all along.
I like it very much.
I just downloaded it and I really like it so far. The tab system is really smooth and good looking and there are a bunch of nice optimizations (like the magnification bubble that pops up when clicking on small links, like page numbers on a thread). The desktop bookmarks is SUPER laggy though, it takes a good 15-20 seconds for it to load and let you click on something.
Been using this on my PC's for years and I love it on my phone. Fastest browser yet! I just hope they come out with a dark version. Previously I used the dark dolphin mini and blacked out miren, chrome is soooo bright!

How often do people go to Kongregate on their phones through the browser to play games? There's enough apps with similar games, and you will still have the stock browser with flash if you really need it. I find that I barely use it in the browser. The Chrome browser is really well put together and will only get better!
HTML5 is just about ready to bust out; youtube has a whole branch for it. I am thinking really soon HTML5 will get the big push. (in that non-computer geeks will know it exists)
i agree flash is out dated but alot of sites still use it. thought it deserve a mention for people like me that dont want to have multiple apps for one purpose cluttering their phones. chrome beta is a great browser but until flash is completly gone it wont work for me. just my prefrence.
Running this on CM9-alpha1 and loving it! Tab management is the best I have seen to date, very clean. Also, syncing bookmarks and history is a huge plus. I type "f" in the address bar and it auto-suggests straight to the Epic 4G Android Dev page on XDA, just like it does on my laptop and desktop.

Irrelevant. It is a browser's job to show me web pages. If there's an old page with useless flash content, it is the responsibility of the browser to render it.
Regardless, I downloaded this earlier and wonder why it hasn't been part of Android all along, or why it wasn't just an update to the stock browser. Google now has two very similar mobile browsers for Android.

Bad flash performance since ICS, look here!

Since ICS update to Transformer 720p flash is completely unwatchable on my Asus Transformer.
After googling a bit I found a bug report in Adobes public bug db with a confirmed problem, GPU acceleration is not enabled.

However, Adobe isn't planning on fixing it because of lack of time.

HTML5 is not a solution yet. Flash is critical for things like twitch.tv. Nothing bugs me more than apologetics trying to dismiss the lack of Flash because "HTML5 is the future", this is the same thing Apple users have done for years while Android users have mocked them.

Couldn't agree more! I use my tf for a bit of stream browsing on twitch.tv and it bugs me as hell that while everything was fine and dandy under HC it is now crap.
I can confirm that windowed mode works after dolphin's upgrade yesterday but fullscren is still not there. It's like it opens on a "ghost" window somewhere and you can't focus on it to bring it to the front.
Finally can others please try opera to see if this resolves the issues? (Their latest changelog speaks specifically about adding flash functionality for 4.x devices)

Nexus 7 Netflix Opinions?

Hey everybody, I'm new to the Nexus 7 forums (coming from HTC Amaze/Samsung Infuse forums) and I was wondering how Netflix plays on this device.
I ordered one yesterday, but I'm curious as to whether or not it will be a decent experience. I currently have a Galaxy Tab 7 and the netflix app is HORRENDOUS. I mean, it takes about 5 minutes to load a tv show, and my Amaze connects (via the same wifi) within seconds. I'm just wondering how the speed is of the netflix app. I'm also curious about the video playback quality. Is it decent?
I can't wait to get my Nexus 7 and contribute more to this forum!

I have a fast internet connection to my N7 and Netflix is outstanding. YMMV
Netflix runs fast on mine, you sure it's not your Internet connection?
As soon as I click a video, it takes no longer than a second to load.
As for quality, here you go:

Works great on mine. I think I remember seeing an option in my account (not app) for streaming quality with 3 choices, I chose highest quality. Not sure how much of a difference it makes.

Yes, that's correct.
The setting you speak off is on your account via the netflix website, people should make sure about this setting.
I don't think you can receive HD streams unless on the highest setting.

Netflix is working well on N7. Quality is good. The initial load is as fast as desktop, but it sometimes pauses to buffer. Could be my router for all I know though.
Works very well on mine. No startup delay and quality is excellent.

Works great on mine! Quality is very nice, very crisp. Only issue I had was a few jitters during the first few minutes of playback on a Firefly ep and then it settled down and was smooth as butter for the remainder of the episode.

Works excellent. In fact on other tablets (galaxy 10.1)Netflix scrolling is sometimes laggy not so with N7
Videos look awesome

Netflix on N7 - FTW!
Quality is good, application is terrible. Sometimes it doesn't register to play unless you exit the app, scrolling is choppy unless you activate hardware acceleration for 2d rendering, browse menu randomly pops up when using search.

Would you think that's app specific or because of their new(ish) UI, which I personally can't stand.

I've been running into this problem where it doesn't register play when i click the movie after search, but i think its a netflix bug. Other than that it plays great!
Thank you for the great responses. It's good to hear that I won't have any more Netflix woes And in response to the question about my internet connection: My phone loads netflix shows within seconds on the same wifi network as the Galaxy Tab, which takes a century to load, then when it does load a menu pops up saying "netflix is not responding" which delays video playback even further. Honestly I'm at the point where I think the Gtab is garbage and this is the upgrade I need. Thanks again!
Netflix works great for me on my N7, iPad, iPhone, XBox 360, Blu Ray player and iMac.
Same here. I think my Gtab is just cursed lol. Like when I had it on stock I couldn't even get it to load the app. It would just time out. Now with the cubed3 rom I'm able to get it ghetto-rigged enough to work. It's nice to know I will actually have a netflix-ready device!

Question mine doesn't show netflix in full screen is there a setting I'm missing?
Netflix is laggy on my Nexus 7. I have tried using a faster connection at work to stream, and it still lags. More like the screen freezes for a couple of seconds, but the sound is smooth. I have tried it after today's Netflix app update, and still having problems.
