Works perfectly for me.

It was already supported in Touchdown...

If you pay for it...

Nice works good for me too. I only can't seem te find the setting for changing te ringtone for new e-mails..

It seems to work quite good for me (5 accounts). But I have a big issue when editing/creating contacts : Only the name fied is available. I cannot edit phone numbers, mails, address, notes...
Do you know why?

I tried it yesterday on my DHD with MIUI but it seemed to drain my batt down.
Anyone else notice the same?

No, on the contrary it seems to be low consuming on mine!
I used to have the native google mail app to synchronize my hotmail accounts (with push). It worked quite well, but with no HTML, and the battery drain was higher than with this app.
After 2 days, it only used 2% of battery with push enabled and 34 mails received (and read)
Did anyone try to modify a contact with it? are you able to modify something else than the name? I'm not, so I had to keed another program to do it...

I was under the impression that ActiveSync supported everything, no need for this app. Not for me anyway. I just sync up with ActiveSync.

yes i also just discovered that MS active sync actually works as all the time i was trying to use the hotmail but have found out that tmobile are restricting outgoing messaging but i thought id try the microsoft activesync and guess what ? ........IT WORKS !!
so no need (well atleast in my case) for any hotmail or another app as the inbuilt htc email thing is working with hotmail by using exchange active sync instead of using the windows live/hotmail option

In fact it was not working in htc's app before the lastest rom upgrade...
It now works, but I still have some issues : contacts sometimes not synchronizing, no html rendering, problems with accents in french...
htc's mail app is still not very good...
this new Microsoft app is supposed to garanty that everything works fine. And moreover you have html mails at last!
(with pushed hotmail)

Thanks for that!!

Thanks, although I despise Hotmail, some people (family) still insist on using my 10 year old Hotmail email address and this beats having the once-an-hour GMail POP3 check only.

thanks this app is great!

Implement IMAP IDLE Native function @ Pocket Outlook

Hi
I'm currently running a mail server on a dedicated box (host @ datacenter 30€/month) under linux with courrier-imap. There is a way to implement IMAP IDLE function, that is almost the same than pushing emails.
I actualy tested it without FAM (File Alteration Monitor). Fam allow you to have a realtime email like blackberry. I don't need it, the basic IMAP_ENHANCEDIDLE do a check every minutes and update if there is a mail.
I tested this feature through telnet and it worked lovely.
Now, in order to be able to use this feature over your windows mobile, you have the choice between to softwares.
The first is vgsmail http://www.vgsmail.com/ppc/ (free trial)
This one will just enable the IMAP IDLE feature on your pocket outlook (seems to be the more elegant way to implement it)
The second is WIS Flexmail 2007 (search at google ) (free trial)
This one is a new client (i don't like to change my use personnaly)
The major problem of the both solutions is that you have to pay for it.
Does anyone can do a patch for pocket outlook to implement imap idle fonction on it ?
Regards.
Reference thread: Here
Check out Seven.
http://community.seven.com/forum/main.php
I'm currently using it too work with my google IMAP account and I get push email. It works amaizing.
I don't know if its what your looking for but give it a shot and see.
I currently use it on my WM6 Hermes device and even though it not supported its working perfectly for me.

Hi, thanks for your tips, btw i like to know something, is it a standalone program or a plugin for pocket outlook ?
Regards.
Its an addon for pocket outlook that manages the account and the push functionality. It also does other types of accounts. It gave me push email for my work account and pop accounts.
You still read/reply and manage your emails using pocket outlook.
!
Fantastic, gonna test it tomorrow !
Thanks buddy !
Edit
I tested this solution, sounds like a third party server is getting email from your server :/. It won't be a problem if this project didn't looks like another commercial push (visto like).
Actualy Seven is acting like a visto, sevens server try to fetch mail ~2mn and push it on they proprietary client, who is pushing the message @ pocket outlook.
It means that my mail is going through seven mail server and Seven has all access granted to my mailbox.
I'm just looking for a soft (without thrid party server checking) enabling the IMAP IDLE fonction.
Test of vgsmail & flexmail
I tried to test them with imap idle
vgsmail has been renamed to EmansioPushMail, great, but it just crash my Hermes (Schap's 3.54 ROM). Tried an old cab called Vsgmail-Pushmail.cab (looks like an old beta). Result is the same (just with a different program name )
flexmail is working with imap idle correctly, but it's eating up all my memory (92% busy). So my Hermes just finish to crash cause it don't get enough memory (GPRS+Flexmail+msn+Audio Player).
The both solution are non free ...
Is there a chance to get imap idle implemented on pocket outlook someday ?
A desesperate Linux's mail server admin.
maybe it's a stupid question, but just to know:
within my Pocket Outlook GMail IMAP options, I have an option to check mail every 5 minutes.
ok I know, it's not really push, but what's the difference, I doesn't really mather if you get your mails within some seconds or within 5 minutes, or does it?
There is really cool japanese freeware mail client named Qmail3 - It has IMAP4 - I do not know about IMAP IDLE but it is worth a try. Some people call that program "The Bat" for PPC because of tons of features it offers.
WM6 also supports IMAP4 and HTML mails...i don't really see much benefit for another email application...the full device integration will never be as good as with Pocket Outlook, I think.

Hi,
Actualy, the option that you are using is wasting a lot of bandwith.
Send/Receive procedure
1/ contact imap/pop server
2/ auth on it
3/ check message
This have an effective cost of bandwith (wich is limited to 10mo/month in my case)
It means that if you use this system you gonna waiste almost all bandwith just to check if there is some mails.
Imap Idle procedure
1/ contact/auth once
2/ enter idle mode
3/ server send a notification to the client entered in idle mode
This solution permit to don't waste bandwith and provide a real push solution (you have to install File Alteration Monitor on your mail server in order to get it) withouth FAM it works also but you can get a delay (less than 1mn).
This solution is the best cause you are not dependant of a third party who's all access on your mailbox (specialy for work purposes)
We don't want to set up any microsoft server or exchange servers (linux ftw).

Depends on how often you get incoming mail.
If you only get one message per hour, but want to know within a few minutes of its arrival and set a 5-minute check interval, you're performing a LOT of extra full IMAP resyncs that are unnecessary, which will eat your battery.
There are also a number of other IMAP extensions usually implemented along with IDLE (known as the Lemonade Profile) that significantly reduce data transfers (and battery abuse), the basic IMAP support in Pocket Outlook does not implement these.

ok, thx for the clarification!
if the IDLE and lemonade would work in Pocket Outlook, would we be able to get push email in combination with the new GMail IMAP support? would be nice and cheap I guess
If you have unlimited text messages, use PushEffect - uses a text message to signal outlook to check email. Works great for me - http://www.qorefunctions.com/

vgsmail is now Emansio:

and in my testing it still (version 20070916143800) seems unreliable and buggy on my Kaiser (WM6). Great idea, I wish the darn task manager icon could be removed, and I wish it worked properly. Price is high in USD with the current exchange rates, but I might be able to stomach the basic license if it worked....

IMAP IDLE

Does the Blackstone support imap idle or another kind of pushmail solution?
Yeah, there is support for Direct Push through an exchange server, or for Imap4/Idle through 3rd party solutions like Fleximail or this promising free one http://www.codeplex.com/ImapPusherService
While Imap has the advantage of WLAN compatiblity, I still have to check the effect on battery life
perfect! I'm thinking of changing my email-domain to Domainfactory, which offers free Push-mail http://www.df.eu/germany/produkte/mymail.htmla
I wanted to make sure that both (Domainfactory and Touch HD) will work together.
Would be nice to hear your report of battery life.
can you use push-mail with gmail like on the g1 ?
@bug-i
I am using the free http://live.mail2web.com/ Direct Push for years. Only disadvantage over Imap is that one cannot send email with your choosen email address, you have to use theirs. But lately I am using Imap only, because it works better with different mobile operating systems
@L0ser
Yes, with the free PocketOutlook plugin mentioned in my post.

Well, you could forward your gmail to a free push provider, and sync gmail that way. But I think Imap is a easier solution, and not bound to Microsoft or RIM.
anyone got web2mail to push email to their HTC?
Hi chaps,
I wondered if any of you have got this to work? I've followed all the instructions setting up a free push email account with web2mail and setup activesync to receive messages as they arrive, but I still dont get the email until I manually sync.
The only thing I think maybe breaking it, is the fact that I have setup nodata on my htc as my carrier charges loads for using data (I have wifi switched on and connected instead)
Any ideas chaps?
Imap Idle with gmail support, scheduling, etc... Look for email scheduler, it is posted here at xda, and avail here. I am curious how it works on the Blackstone.

Push Gmail Solution

first if id like to say, sorry if the title is misleading
second, im still trying to figure out how to get true directpush gmail on the HD, ive been using wm for 4 years now....but since ive gotten the HD is when the push gmail is really starting to bother me, i mean yes, i can use owa to get my gmail, but its either manual sync, or interval sync. which is not true push mail. ive been able to use my hotmail account for push mail, obviously MS designed it this way that you can use it.
but still cannot find a way through owa or standalone wm to get push gmail
other thoughts here are;
-hotmail is capable of this obviously their parent company created the technology
-blackberry is capable of this because they have their BES server
-third party apps blow, so its not a true solution, i would perfer to have my emails between sender and me, rather than being filtered through by some third party app/company
if anyone has any kind of input or say, please feel free...
no one has a solution?
ive seen that there a lot of people looking at this thread, people have come across this im sure problem/topic, but no one has found a solution to the gmail push?!!

I had the same problem but "solved" it with HD Tweak. Ok solved is the false word for it but it works now.
So what I did is:
1. Start HD Tweak of course
2. Go to point 6.1 (Disconnect After)
3. I set it to 1 Minute or 2 Minutes
4. Save this with OK
After that my gmail works perfect when it always have to connect for a new time to the internet! If you are connected to the internet it won´t work! Crazy but ok what should I do
First I didn´t wanted to use this "disconnect after" option to get my gmail workin. I only wanted to safe battery energy but than I saw that with this disconnecting after 1Minute (on my HD) my gmail is working and syncing all mails correctly to my Touch HD.
Please tell me if it also works on your HD!

But your question would be also interesting to me if there is a possibility to have pushmail with gmail.
Im also really interested. I have mine set to sync every hour which is ok but as mentioned, not pushmail at all. In fact it is barbarically pullmail.
I hope this will solve the problem.
WINDOWS LIVE (in your Start-programs-windows live)
1. make account in windows live / hotmail
2. at windows live menu - option, find Sync Schedule
3. choose, from Sync Frequency: as items arrive.
It means, as an email arrive in [email protected]., it will push to your handheld.
Carefull with the battery.

but in my opinion still not a true solution, im so eager for google to release a gmail sync, dont let me down google....! waiting for you to release a break through tech for wm users!!

Hi,
I was also interested in push mail solution for WM and Touch Hd and this is what I found:
http://www.emoze.com/
I downloaded version for htc/other device and installed cab on mobile. After creating an account for gmail, it automaticly created account in outlook. Mails seems to be pushed into my mobile maybe 1 minute after they arrive to gmails inbox, so it sounds like a fair solution. Pls someone check that because it seems too good to be true. Maybe I'm missing something but it seems to be a real push mail solution for gmail and wm. And its free.

I just tested Emoze, and I'm REALLY impressed!
The setup is fast, and easy!
In the settings menu, I get my own language, despite the software being downloaded in English!
Receipt of testmail on my HD after 4 minutes.
Receipt of reply on my Lotus Notes after 30 seconds(!!!).
This is it! I'm not looking any longer
Another alternative is Seven. I've been using it for over a year now and prefer it to emoze. It's still in beta but works great.
well does seven emoze and funambol all enable you to reply with the gmail account name? and its all a separate application correct?
in a way my temporary fix is working for me, pain in the ass but working.....i just prefer not to have a 3rd party program "filter" through my emails, private or not.....
but has anyone received any word on whether googles releasing a gmail sync?

Google's Sync service has supported Google calendar and contacts sync for a while. Recently, they added support for pushed email. A few days ago, I switched from using IMAP to using ActiveSync for GMail. Except for some times when it's very slow to pick up on new email, it works pretty well.

i agree with nispen - i've been using seven beta with gmail for over a year. it's worked almost flawlessly.
i see that Seven does not work in Brazil, where I am. The other service that someone recommended is SMS based. Does anybody know a REAL PUSH service like maybe seven (I did not test it, but understand it does what it is supposed to do) that work here?
when i first got my palm, there was a popup about some microsoft push service for the device... i ended up flashing to 6.5.1 and that feature isnt there anymore though.

Exchange on the Hero, first impressions

I've noticed that not has much been said on the Hero's exchange support in any of the reviews or user reports so I thought I'd let people know what it's like as, for me, this is a must have feature. I should say that I have not had an android phone before and so I have had no experience with Nitrodesk's exchange solution so I can't compare.
Well, I entered my exchange details during initial set-up and after my first attempt was unsuccessful (SSL needed and is off by default) it than worked. Asked me if I wanted to sync Mail, Calender and Contacts all of which I selected. After the rest of the setup had finished the phone told me I had a new e-mail arrive so I could tell it was working straight away.
Mail is fantastic. Downloads everything fine, has at least as many options as WM for choosing which messages to download. E-mails look great on the display and html e-mails show up fine.
Contacts are great, they all appear straight away in the people and the phone application. All the Facebook and Flikr integration works perfectly. Only niggle is that you can't group contacts by company which is something I used to do on WM.
Calender seems to work fine. Appointments showed up ok, including appointments sent by e-mail.
All in all, the exchange sync is way better than expected and in some ways better than WM. The integration seems very deep and integral to the OS rather than a bolt on feature.
I agree with you there Bud, just a shame that there is no task sync support yet - still looking
All was fine for me, but as soon as I've allowed it to connect my contacts to FB contacts, sync fails for conacts with a 'client/server conversion error' message.
I'm using exchange 2003, mail and calendar are syncing fine, and I too would love tasks to be added, along with a fix for contacts and I'm a happy hero user
Strange - I have had no issues with the Fb sync but i use Exchange 07
Just Exchange, or...
...also Outlook?
not tried to sync with outlook yet, whats the best app for that?
I would settle for an outlook connector that I could just set to sync contacts and tasks, as these two arent really changing so frequently I wouldnt mind having to 'plug in' to sync these.
I just use exchange so can't comment on outlook sync. Facebook linking worked fine for me but I also have exchange 2007 so can only assume it's a problem there. Not sure if the exchange functionality is all implemented by HTC or whether they've used part of Nitrodesk's Touchdown but I saw on the Nitrodesk website that they don't support exchange 2003 yet.

The only app is HTC sync which is included along with the hero's manual on the sd card supplied with your phonbe, word of warning i just installed htc sync on my vista pc and it caused windows explorer to continuously crash until i uninstalled it, not impressed
Tried to install the app ealier, drivers failed and the app wont work (win 7 32 bit)
Going to try the long way round for now - sync outlook contacts to my google account and keep the google contacts synced to my phone - would I end up with a duplicate of everyone then though?

I, like you (not I like you!), have synced up this way. I too cannot get HTC sync to work. I am sure Orange have bundled the wrong version.
So, I export Outlook to a file, then import contact file to google cal, then sync gcalendar to hero. Job done.
No duplicates, google calendar seems intelligent enough to recognise the dups
I would like to share my experience
Booted up.... would you like to set up exchange?
HELL YES!!!!
enter the details..... (internet accessible exchange server)
<entered>
What you wanna sync my boy?
EVERY GOD DAMN THING
oooooook here we go.......
<done.>
Sweet!
Thinking about an Adriod as my next phone, since I think WM is really falling behind everyone else! I use it mostly for work so a couple of questions if you don't mind....
No tasks syncing so far?
How does the calander work, are the views easy to see, day and week stuff?
Meeting requests work?
Can you flag email messages? This is a must for me and I hate that WM 6.5 can't even do it!
How do you find the keyboard replying to emails?
Can you open Word, Excel, PDF files?
Any other features it has for work that WM doesn't?
Thanks
Exchange
I'm having probs with exchange.
It will only sync my main inbox, not any of the subfolders I have, and will only sync via mobile network - fails on wifi ? ?
Then again can't get ANY web stuff on wifi ? ?
Word and excel fully creatable and editable with Docs to Go, and Open Office I think does let you read different docs though not sure which. Best PDF Reader seems to be RepliGo Reader which is good for books as well.
I'm only just getting to grips with Google Calendar but seems to have a great deal of flexibility for appts and stuff.
Widgets really just getting going, so I'm not sure of all those available...
Daisy - Magic owner, so Hero may be slightly different xx

I have reiceved my G2 touch and havn't been able to setup exchange sync over the air. It goes past first option i.e. to show me what i want to synch mail, contacts, calendar and than when I click on finish setup it fails with message unable to create account try later! Any idea what is going wrong. How can I fix it?
Sachin
Anyone have any experience with exchange sync where the server requires you to set a password/pincode for the phone?
Heard some people saying that this was not supported by the Hero. A pity if true, as I need this to work in order to be able to use the Hero as a work phone (in other words, if I am to buy a Hero).
The out of the box exchange support is really very good. It just needs the ability to authenticate via password or client certificate.
I much prefer it to WM, but only because its completely finger friendly.
Yes you can flag emails, and they show up under the flagged emails tab at the bottom.
I really really hope the update within 10 days or September will affect this thing? Need to be able to sync more than one folder at the time.

works for me on vista 64 with orange branded HTC Touch. I believe there is an update on the HTC website, not sure if that enables win7 support
I certainly didn't notice explorer crashing after I installed it, chances are it's another explorer extension interfering (either a media codec that is failing at showing thumbnails, or a right-click extension or similar)
