as changing phone's MAC address? change or modify that file? Thank you.
every piece of network chip has it's own unique MAC address so there are really only 2 ways to change it. either spoof it, which is highly unethical and has questionable legality, or get a new phone
the problem is to use the v8 gingerxpiria rom and I get a MAC different from the original phone.
With other ROM I have no problem, give me my MAC ORIGINAL.

My friend was boasting about how secure his network is and how nobody could ever hack into it. I am able to pick it up on my Universal, but it asks me for the WEP code. It would be very funny if I could use his connection after all his boasting :twisted: ! So, is there any app that can do this - perhaps by guessing all possible combinations until it gains access, or any other way?
Thanks
WEP is an older security method that has been proven to be hackable and especially true if the 64-bit version is being used.
There are tools around to hack WEP security, but I doubt it is for PPC. Even for PC, it requires some drivers for the wireless card, and a lot of the wireless card are not supported, including Centrino.
Lets assume that you have the appropriate equipment. Depending on the key size your friend used, e.g. 64 / 128 bits, you are required to be there to capture enough data (approx 500Mb for 128bits, I think) to get enough 'clue' to decode the key being used.
Finally, lets assume you had the key. You boasting friend may have a second layer of protection with wireless MAC address filtering, which filter out un authorized units based on MAC address. Of cource, MAC address can be spoof, but doubt there are any easy method of PPC unit yet.
You need another laptop as well as the PPC.
Download and install: Auditor: http://www.remote-exploit.org/index.php/Main_Page it is basically a boot from CD Linux with just the tools you need to 'probe' networks. use the PPC to find the Mac address, SSID and channel. Then fire up the laptop and start using all the tools to crack the WEP. The more data going over the network, the faster the apps will be able crack the WEP code. If enough data is flowing through the router, it is possbile to crack a 128 bit WEP in 10-20 minutes. If you have two laptops, you can get the other one to talk to the router (with spoofed MAC) to increase the data.
As already mentioned, all this depends if your card is supported by the apps, and can be put in silent mode (if you don't want to draw attention to yourself)
Of course, it is much easier just to walk 50 yards down the street and find an unsecured network for your free Skype calls.
cough.

Mine is german, so my translations may be wrong
From the start menue
-> Settings
-> connections
-> Wireless-LAN
There you'll find the information you are looking for.
Do you have some experience with Linux? It's a bit more complicated than Windows Mobile
AFAIK for Wep cracking there are also a couple of programs for PocketPC existing which can do this within minutes.
but this depends strongly on the WLAN hardware.
Search in google for this.

Thanks for the help. I have serached on google, but am unable to find a wep cracking application for ppc. Could you perhaps give me a link to one?
Thanks
look here:
http://www.google.com/search?num=30...esnum=0&ct=result&cd=1&q=wlan+sniffer&spell=1
Thanks again, but could you please be more specific with an application, and post a link to the application, as I was unable to find anything by clicking on the google search you posted.
Thanks
6680,
it is easyer to use a notebook, preferrably with two Prism2 based network cards, and boot WHAX from a CD.
Let that run for some time and it'll find the WEP key for you.
It took more than 30 hours to get the key for my neighbours WLAN :?
I did not post you more specific links, as I have to look myself through all these links. Actually, some of the Wlan sniffer programms do have also a PocketPC version.
Actually, it is far more easier to use a notebook than a pda. Also I doubt that there is any program around, which is fully supporting the Wlan hardware of the Universal. At least this was the case half year ago.
I wish the search function was better for these forums, but I couldn't seem to find any good info...
I want to change the MAC address for my cingular 8125 running the standard wm5 OS. I have not upgraded the rom or anything at this point. Its pretty much an out of the box experience. Is there a registry setting I can change or a software setting. I tried playing around and view my MAC address but cannot change it.
AFAIK not really, at least not by any simple method like registry change..
Search is working ok for me btw. Not great, but OK.
A search in the "networking" sub-forum pulled up this;

As far as i know..
you can never change Mac addresses on any type of device..
MAC addresses are burned into the hardware more specifically the wireless card so I really doubt it can be changed.
I was reading about android os basis o linux so I thought that I can change mac on my magic as like I am changing it on nokia n810 tablet
sorry for my english

I understand what you mean. You want to spoof your MAC address as something else. Many products have thus ability (routers, PCs, xbox, etc); although its usually only for wired interfaces not wireless interfaces. The only use i can see for wanting to spoof your wireless MAC would be for cracking into wireless networks protected by MAC address control.

There is more use for that.
I have just installed Android (froyo 2.2) on my HTC HD2, and that uses a different MAC, so I want to change it back to what it actually is.
I see on my router that the device name for the DINC is android follow by what looks like a serial number.
Can I just name it ....uh...let say... Bob?
PCs, Macs and iPods can do it. I don't see an option on the DINC to do it.
DINC 2.2

I'm guessing you're looking at a DHCP IP reservation configuration page for your router. You can change the name there, as it is only a display name for purposes of managing IP assignments.
It has no impact on the phone. Changing 'the name' on the phone itself? I have no idea about what that would impact as far as the telephone network is concerned (if anything).
I would also like to know if we can rename the phones browser useragent.
Like when you go to facebook touch, it says at the bottom
"try downloading facebook for you'r Droid Incredible" and links to the android app. However if you're on a custom ROM is says the phone is a Nexus One
Let say I am at Starbuck using their wifi, I like something more anonymous and safer than what type of device I am using and what seem like my phone's serial number (or is it?).
Bob is ok...right? No body knows Bob or Jack.
hello all
i dont even know how to ask…
but this is the project i would like to start:
develop an that will be able to track another phone or gps device based on phone number or some sort of imei or sn
the both devices know about each other… its not something that will run without the knowledge of this devices.
is there a way to do this?
would i need a separate server witch will receive the gps info an pass on to the other device?
Sent from my SGS2 on SB4.4.2

I think yes, you need some communication node here.
One device should send id(imei) and position to server, and second will request last position(or all previous positions) by id.
I don't know any other way that can help to archive your goal(direct connection between devices also possible, but you need server anyway )
thank you,
any other suggestions/thoughts ?
