Power Button is dead. Now what?

I have my nike for 18 months now.
My power button is not responding anymore.
This means that I can not turn off the phone completely. Which also means that if it ever runs out of battery i might not be able to turn it on either.
What options do i have? can i assign another button to operate as power?

No,you can't prefer other button as a power button.You have to go for a new one.

I would look on ebay for a faulty phone that you can buy and then swap the guys of your phone into the other one and have it functioning again. I see some faulty ones going for around $1 plus postage.

All you have to do is plug in the phone to an AC charger, and the phone should come on.
Sometimes, however, it will show the boot logo, then go to a screen showing you your battery percentage, and not actually boot. No problem. Just pull the battery and unplug. Replace the battery, and while holding the "x" button on your keyboard, plug the phone back in .
If not working..
plug you nexus to USB cable..then restart your pc/laptop without unplugged your nexus..it will power on automatically...

Yes..even right now you have gnex and then your nexus s power button broken..
You can still use you nexus s..which is right now warranty of your nexus s already expired and if you want to sell. Who want to buy phone with single core and broken power button with high price?

My uncle gave me his broken iPhone 3g
The power button and home button didn't work on that but I already jail broke it before so it was all good
It took forever to find a button remaping app on cydia
I ended up having vol up then vol down as home and the reverse as screen off screen on

my nexus is I9020T bought in Perth...I studying in Indonesia..samsung center do not have spare part for I9020T because official Nexus S in Southern Asia is I9023...
And I already try googling about the prices..will cost around 80-100USD to fix it..
They only solution is if you still have warranty..

Don't worry i just wanted to play around, my power button works fine as of now.

Does anybody have a picture of what the solder points look like on a defective power button?

But just before you mention to connect the phone to the AC charger. Don't you mean your computer then?

[Q] Galaxy y 5510 always turns off after 2 seconds

i have a galaxy y 5510 (the one with the qwerty keyb)
which won't go past the "samsung galaxy y" screen when it boots. it just shuts down after 2sec after i turn it on.
i can't go into recovery mode.
i managed to get to download mode pressing vol down + home + power, i manage to press vol up tu get further into the menu, but it will just turn off. It actually looks like i can use odin to do something from there, but i can't because it turns off, it just won't stay "awake" for more than 2 sec.
i also found a guide ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1465800 ) which let me flash what i want from download mode, but since it will not stay on for more than 2 seconds i can't do anything...
i tried with another battery, but it's the same...
if i plug the power it won't charge and the pc does not see anything attached to the usb port.
what can i do? is it time to throw it away?

as i wrote before i can't turn on the phone, how can i go into settings or dial the code? i can also access download mode, and for a very short time, and i don't have time to let odin run.
i also tried with another battery and it will still turn off after 2 seconds, so i'd rule out the battery as a problem.

Go to your phones ofgicial site and see is there any software repair option if not go to sevice centre ...and ask them to repair it they will charge you some money and repair your phone

i am here asking on a forum because i can't use the samsung software and because i am trying to avoid to go to the service centre and to pay for that...

try to connect to usb, turn on then pull the batteries out (dont disconnect cord from pc)

it did not work...
i read some stuff about the usb jigs... since they are quite cheap, it wouldn't a bad idea to try it out... but i just found this http://www.xda-developers.com/android/need-a-samsung-usb-jig-build-your-own/ but i am reading it now... i hope it's not too hard...

maybe you have problem with your Power Button same to mine.
Try to pull out your battery then take it back again press volume Up + Home button (yes its recovery mode but dont press Power Button) if your phone enters to recovery Mode you have Problem with your Power Button:good:
Try to Press your Power Button Continuously and Hard as you can until you get in your Home Screen

My Galaxy Note 3 power button has just completely stopped working. Is there a setting that turns off the power button functionality that I might have accidentally pressed?

Edit: I should elaborate here. The phone is switched on, everything works as normal but no matter how many times I try it, the power button just not do anything (holding it down, pressing different areas)

Did you try a battery reset? With the phone off, can you get into either Download or Recovery mode? That would eliminate the possibility of an OS issue.

I kind of scared to turn the thing off in case I can't switch it back on. I'll try it though.
Edit: It's dead. Taken the battery but can't switch back on now. What a joke.

I know I kind of expect this bad luck these days after having two faulty Nexus 7's. My Galaxy S2 power button is still going strong after 2 and a half years but the Note 3 lasts 7 hours

It's a dud mate. Faulty unit.
Just send it back and get it replaced.

Just send it for replacement. There's a reason phones come with a warranty that covers manufacturer defects. Whining about it to strangers in the forum is not going to fix it for you.

Yeah this is definitely the least friendly of all the Android forums. Sorry to hear you have a dud unit mate. Get it replaced.

My power button is not working to turn the screen off. Long press works to bring up the power down menu or to do a hard shut down. It works to turn back on though. Seems to happen after I plug it into the wall charger. Restoring a nandroid backup fixes the issue.
Not sure if it's related but my PC's USB crashed after trying to plug the phone in and use USB 3.0 to transfer files. I had to refresh my W8 PC to get the USB working again.
I have the Sprint version, rooted and running JellyBomb.

I have the same problem. my power button is done for. whenever i need to start it. I plug it in and go into recovery and reboot from there. I also use this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.plexnor.gravityscreenoffpro&hl=en for screen timeout and lock. And you can also get exposed and gravity box and there is a status bar tweak to double tap the status bar to lock screen (put phone to sleep).

I tried everything then found the solution on another website
My note 3 has been with me for almost 2 years now and it's power button stopped working about 2-3 months ago. Until now I avoided draining the battery below 2% and was fine but just today I dropped my phone and it shut down. I knew that my power button didn't work because of hardware problems so a soft reset didn't work for me. What I found however is that if your power button is dead you can just very quickly remove and re-insert your battery and your samsung device (I have no idea if this works on other brands) automatically boots itself. I'll give the link too incase I wasn't clear enough and I hope this helps people who shared my worries.

Dead motherboard?

Got a couple s4s that won't do anything. ..won't even show the Samsung splash screen for its entirety. ..switched batteries no luck....what's causing them to seemingly fail?

Could you provide some additional information? How did you acquire these S4's? Do you know their history? Were they non-functioning when you got them? Can you put them into download mode. Have you tried flashing stock firmware?

One I bought myself the other was brought to me by a customer. Mines was working fine root with safestrap, nj4...idk about his but both experience the same symptoms. Won't turn on with the Power button. Nor charge when plugged in. Will only attempt to boot when battery is inserted. Mines would show the Samsung custom padlock, his the original Samsung s4 logo. Both shut off before the logos dissappear on their own.

None won't make it to download or recovery mode..I even charge the batteries in this working s4 I'm using as we speak so I know the batteries are good.

There's not much you can do yourself if you are unable to get the phones into download mode. Normally, when there is some sort of life in the phone, such as seeing the logo, etc, then it is recoverable. But you need to get into download mode.
I don't know the S4 very well as I've never had one apart, but on the SII the power button is soldered onto the mother board. On the SII, the symptoms of a failed power button include the exact symptoms you describe on your phones, the power button ineffective but boots when battery inserted. That could be similar on the S4 I suppose. Also, the fact you can not get into download mode or recovery mode, both of which require the power button, suggests that the button is faulty.
I was unable to find a replacement part for an S4 power switch with a quick search, or any info. You might look into a service like mobiletechvideos.com. They offer power button repair for the S4 for $40.00. I can highly recommend Jeff Groce, the owner.

My S4 is having this same issue. It's the power switch. You can try opening the phone and cleaning it with a cotton swab and alcohol, pressing the switch to make sure it gets any debris out of the switch. Otherwise, it may be possible to try pressing the button a few times, then remove and put the battery back in. If it doesn't turn on automatically, plug it in while holding volume down, and then hit cancel when download mode comes up. It will boot and run fine as long as you don't press the power button.
It takes many tries to get it to start like this, and it may be easier to just remove the switch from the board. There are definitely replacements available, I've seen a video of someone replacing it but it requires soldering tools of course.

took the ****in button off im as good as gold...may i recommend gravity screen for those with screw power buttons? put that gyroscope to work ppl.

Glad you got it working. I have gravitybox installed so I just set long presses of menu and back to Power Menu and Sleep respectively. Works great for me.
