Navigation not used stored map - Desire HD General

I'm using the standard (stock?) ROM 2.3.3 UK tmobile.
Previously when I used navigation, it used the map on the phone. I noticed recently that now when I use navigation, it uses Google maps instead. I re downloaded the UK maps, but no luck. :-(
Any idea how I make navigation used the stored map?
Thx in advance.

Using the stored maps for HTC Locations is not free. Have you paid for the service?

using the stored maps on my dhd has always been free, any extras like traffic cams and such require payment but not the preloaded maps, otherwise it kinda defeats the purpose.

mpathan did you go into locations in your settings. there´s a setting in there to integrate google navigation into htc locations, i´m guessing that you have that clicked. if not i´m not sure why you´re having problems

The maps are free, it's the turn by turn functionality you need to pay for.
I had google navigation integrated, however, the on phone map use to work. I have unchecked it now, but it makes no difference.

thats strange , i dunno what to say then. it sounds like my personal problem... my stock web browser used to work in desktop mode no problem but lately its just mobile web pages only whether its checked in settings or not. it pains me to have to use dolphin browser or opera, they work fine they just annoy me. sorry i couldnt be any help, hope you find a solution

No worries, thanks for your reply.
Just tried using Google maps. That doesn't pick up gps now.
Using gps test tool, 7 satellites are picked up, but not used by Google maps

Use iGo, much better.

I paid for the license. Now things are fine .
I thought you could use the stored map for navigation without the turn-by-turn function, but I guess thats not the case.
Thanks for all the replies

whether there is an offline application folder?

X10 gps question

Hello guys, yesterday i used the maps and it said i need to turn my 3g on i usually have it off. And when i press navigate it said i need to enable gps and i did. So my question is doesnt gps run without 3g or internet on other phones? And also i wana know does it use data?
because google maps requires an internet connection...
I all depends on which application you use for navigation.
Short answer:
Check with the software instrucions / help files to see how it behaves and works.
Long answer:
Some map software's have all the map data you need for your region already packed with it.
Advantage: No data need to be downloaded within the region, fast, works offline.
Disadvantage: Tricky to update the maps and often charge you for additional regions. Takes up space on the device.
Other apps download maps on the go as you navigate.
Advantage: Always the latest maps as you navigate. Takes less space on the device. Disadvantage: slow or even non-functional with poor or no data connection.
Google maps and Google navigation are of the latter one. They downloads maps as you navigate. therefor it is a good idea to have a data-plan with your provider so no additional expenses comes to.
They are free to use, so if you already have a data-plan with your provider, it's practically free.
On the X10, there are one application included by Sony Ericsson on most X10 sold out there: Wisepilot.
Wisepilot are the kind where you buy maps and download them into your phone, once this is done, it will use little or none of your data-connection.
I'm not sure, but I think Wisepilot are the kind that can be used offline once maps are bought and downloaded.
It can use the data-connection to download additional information such as "speed limit cameras", "spots of interest" and so on.
Try Mapdroid
This app downloads the MAP files when internet is available and can be used offline also with GPS activated..... try this, this is da best app

hey, when you use google navigation, will you be able to use the voice guidance??? I am having troubles to use the voice guidance...not sure how to activate it....
Having to buy the maps and such for wisepilot.. I wish there was a better solution for GPS on the x10. I wouldn't mind using it, but not necessary.
You can use GPS without 3G. I can even get a lock with my phone in airport mode and inside a cement building. When I say cement I mean cement, the floor, walls, and ceiling are all cement (hurricane proof). It is the third (top) floor however.
GPS software on x10
Currently I installed Navigon, Ndrive, MotoNave and Copilot 8 on my x10i with various world maps and all fully functional without 3g or network connection, direct data from satellite in orbit with the phone inbuild GPS receiver. Why you may ask? Because I can. How you may ask? The answers is out there! I am giving you the knowledge , now go and find your answers.
X10 is an Awsome device.
Another solution is to use the Brut Google Maps mod. It allows you to view previously viewed maps from the SD card. It saves the Google maps cache to your SD, but the only downside is that you have to view all of the places you want to travel on at all zoom levels.
If anyone needs it, I have the majority of Menorca done at all zoom levels......
I tend to use google navigation, the best bit of this is when you have your route downloaded and the voice guidance starts, you can then switch off your 3g and it still routes you. Obviously if you take a wrong turn it won't be able to download a new route until you switch 3g back on, but hey

Wow really.. so I can use my phone's gps rather than my car's and I DON"T need 3g?? that's sweet..
Only too bad I don't know how to install any other GPS on my phone... I'm such a noob. Back to my magellans GPS .. ool
Anyone willing to go through the process with me ? haha

It automatically did it on mine. On google map, tap on Direction. When you enter direction it will ask you to activate GPS (if not already activated).

the google navigation works fine, just there is no voice guidance... It only has the "beep" sound when it is about to change in direction (like make left/right turn, stay in the lane, or heading out to the exit) So I am wondering how to make it with turn by turn with voice guidance turn on...

Try going to your phone Settings/Speech Synthesis/Install voice data...
If that doesn't work the I've no idea
Good luck!

I like em all but the one I find myself using the most is Copilot 8 and yes you are right, button presses are laggy on Motonav. I travel all over the world with my job so these GPA apps are very handy to have on a single device.
Best device for my needs. Great apps, awesome GPS, great camera, storage space (16GB), 3G & wifi and movies.

[Q] Offline GPS Navigation App

Anyone know if such a program exists and specifically for car navigation (unlike the offroad one currently on the market)? Kinda like Microsoft Streets & Trips but for Android. I am hoping to use my Xoom as a offline GPS since it is Wifi only model.
There are several. The cheapest is CoPilot. I have it as a backup for when I don't have data. The US only version is normally $4.99 (but I got it on sale for $2.99). I find it OK, but I prefer Google Maps Navigation.
Another is Navigon (it's quite a bit more expensive). A market seach should turn up some more.
Don't forget that Google Maps Navigation will cache the map and route for you . So you can start Navigating while you are in a WiFi hotspot and it will cache all of the maps to finish your navigation. Of course, if you get too far off route then you will have a problem.

Yeah that's kinda what I'm worried about. I need this to be a 100% offline app with full stored maps. Also obviously to be compatible with the Xoom.
which phone do you have, you could enable your wifi hotspot using your 3G network. (I do it on my desire Z/G2)

I have a Blackberry and has no option for Wifi or Bluetooth tethering. I can only do Dial-Up Networking but android doesn't support it as a client.
Have you tried Aura Sygic? if it works on XOOM and Honeycomb?

I used Sygic back when I had a WinMo. Was a good app. I'll check this out.
Found several apps:
Aura GPS Navigation
MobileNavigator USA
Locus Free
CoPilot Live USA
NavDroyd
Anyone try any of these and know which works with the Xoom?

[Q] Internet for navigation?

Do you really need a working internet connection/Wifi in order for a navigation application to work properly?
No copilot and many others have onboard maps

IGO uses no internet/wifi but you need to download maps. PM me if you want a link.

Or get an alternative app?
Personally I like MapsWithMe. It doesn't run on Google Maps but on OpenStreetMap.org, which means it's quite a lot more accurate and extensive. (Even lists benches and power lines.) Just a suggestion.

Thanks for the tip - never heard of it before, just tried it and it's excellent - time to ditch CoPilot
I've used RMaps which you can download a city map to something daft like 3 feet, viewable offline, multiple map scales so you can zoom in/out offline, download via wifi, cached/downloaded maps saved to SDCard, GPS tracker and multiple maps to choose from including Google, Ordinance Survey Maps + more....
I use this before I run Google and can have clear street view before I've set foot out of the door
Bashing away at my HTC Desire C
I use navigator. It doesn't need a data connection because you download maps either paid or free (I use the free ones and they are fine). I found even when Google maps let you download a map you still couldn't navigate on it without a data connection anyway. Which made it kind of pointless.

I have tried all maps mentioned here, but none of them are as smooth and easy to understand as Google maps. Most of them are slow and laggy and also take forever to load location names and details.
Now I would be stuck without wifi and now wonder what to do....

PX5 Based Units - What apps work/don't work for you?

I have a Volsmart branded KGL unit. Very happy with it. I have had a few issues and wonder if anyone else with a PX5/KGL unit has seen these issues, know of fixes, and can share their app experiences.
I connect my radio to the internet thru my phone with mobile hotspot.
I'm using the MTCDіаlеr.арk and True Contacts to put visual icons on my home screen to dial contacts thru my phone with two taps.
Google Maps crashes/locks up once you get into the driving directions.
Here ToGo simply crashes or crashes when trying to load its maps.
Waze is working very well for me and I prefer it over the iGo maps.
GMail works fine.
I've had some success with using PushBullet to share SMS/etc from my phone to the radio.
I'd really like to get Google Maps and Here ToGo working - but have no idea why they don't work.

I have a Mercedes Audio 20/Command nav style unit from a firm here in the UK, it’s a KGL but I think originally Erisin as it had their logo on boot up.
Google maps was ok when I got mine, a couple of weeks ago but yesterday I had a bunch on stopped working pop ups.
Also gmail suffered the same. But seems fine now. Was just mailing myself some nice wallpapers.
The mirror app doesn’t work at all with my iPhone and I can’t see how to update it, downloaded another similar free app that works ok.
Apple Music stops sometimes and because I don’t think it actually supports landscape it hangs off the bottom of the screen. But it’s handy to download playlists onto the HU so I’m not too fussed.
Amazon music works well so does alexa
Torque/HU BT is hit and miss didn’t work, then did but messed up phone, then was working and last night on the motorway messed up phone. So given up on that.
Hey google works but whilst it can open amazon music if I ask for a song once open amazon won’t okay the song, so I ask Alexa, might be they don’t like each other . Or maybe as I’ve stored the actual offline music in the SD card.
Can use the ringo parking app which is cool
MARIO didn’t work
Angry birds works
Netflix play store version fails but there is another I’ve not bothered with yet as the vans for camping so the kids don’t need to be watching it in the van in the winter.
Amazon prime tv works and you can download and store episodes
Waze works well and I prefer it to the IGO so I stuck the Waze on the nav hard button so it’s the main option, would have done google navigation but it’s failed 50% of the times I’ve used it. That said it looks great when it works, especially with the satellite view (must cane my data tho).
