No problem! I went from 2.3.3 and it worked like a charm and it seems like they worked all the bugs out of it this time.
Im on 2.3.4 (AT&T) right before the search bug update was sent out.. will this mess up my cellular data?

This is the fixed 2.3.6 GRK39F (GRK39C had the problems) if you are on AT&T then you have a i9020a and this is the update you are looking for and it won't mess up your data.
It seems like all links are down from google right now I don't have an answer for that. Just keep trying they're likely doing some server maintenamce.
Actually I was wrong it seems like there is something wrong with how xda handles external links.

I have an OTA for 2.3.6 and its 17 MB .... but I'm scared to install since it could kill cellular connectivity like it has before... think I'm just gonna update and see if it works.. it downloaded on its own... I wonder this as well. I flashed the KB3 radio and everytime I get the latest 2.3.6 (17.5mb update) it fails to install.
Anyone know if the flashed radio is what is preventing us from installing the OTA?
I keep getting the error "signature verification failed"

Start by posting the entire message. It will usually indicate what part of the phone is no longer stock.
Alternatively, you can grab the full rom image, it should install regardless.
ok it says E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
does this everytime now i have reflash it back to normal and still repeats this

This usually means that 1, you have stock recover (not CWM) and 2, your are trying to install an unofficial update.
Grab the full ROM link listed in the first post (appropriate to your model) and try that.
Works great, used the update to flash the new radio.

I think we need kd1 radio
full rom or update?
the post says it's a full rom GRK39F
Does it work when I come from another ROM
and if I follow the regular steps right?
1. Backup
2. wipe data/factory reset
3. wipe cache
4. install from zip
Appreciate your response

Hi guys , I'm in trouble since I've got my Nexus One. I could never flash anything. IT's a Vodafone one, and this it's specifications:

I don't know ...
I'm using Hboot 0.35.0017
You've obviously downloaded the wrong Gingerbread roms. Maybe you are trying to flash a custom rom, not the official update.
Or maybe you're not renaming the update zip file correctly, it's easiest to do from a command prompt.
Make sure you have the right update zip. The updates name will be long and weird, that's why after you've downloaded the right zip, you then need to change its name to update.zip (note : its not update.zip.zip). Then put the uodate.zip file on to the root of your SD card which means the zip needs to be not inside any folder.
Tip: I suggest you Google 2.3.3 manual update. The file will be somewhere on the internet. Good luck.

Did you make sure you renamed the update file on your sd card to "update?"
Stock recovery, so you can only flash stock updates.
You're on Vodafone, who modify their OS, so you cannot flash a stock Google update.
You need a stock Vodafone update, and I don't think one has been released yet.
Your options are:
1 - wait
2 - passing to a Google stock
3 - root

From what I understand, there are no obvious signs that Vodafone have tweaked their ROMs. There are plenty of threads on how to switch Vodafone to stock Google though, if you don't believe me?

Soo I installed a nem fastboot and after I took Rom Manager, and there's the solution. Rom Manager has been crucial. Excellent App !! With it I could change de recovery and then install whatever I want.
now I running with last Cyanogen 7 ( Gingerbread included on it )

Hhaha just got the update. Glad I checked here because I was gonna post the link.
same here. just received system update. 6.6mb N1 update to gingerbread MR2
FYI the above link applied just fine to my stock N1 with GRI40. Now happily reporting version GRJ22, version 2.3.4.
Being one of the brave ones who installed the new Talk 1.3 update from this board before 2.3.4 was released proper, I now get an error when flashing this update:
Code:
Verifying current system...
assert failed: apply_patch_check("/system/app/Talk.apk", "53dad6e7e2781E:unknown command [e1132ba110311031d4cc34275cc",]
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.
I assume this is because it finds the wrong Talk.apk, or no Talk.apk at all. Can anyone direct me how to get the previous Talk from 2.3.3 back? Unfortunately I lost my backup of Talk.apk.
I just downloaded and installed 2.3.4 with the linked update file, it worked great. I was running stock 2.3.3.
heya,
Lol, I just saw the update as well. I'm surprised it was only 6.6 Mb.
The first thing I did was go into Google Talk. However, there doesn't seem to be any chance - no facility to make voice calls? =(.
Is this just an limitation of the Nexus One version of 2.3.4? If so, sounds like a crummy move by Google...*sigh*.
Cheers,
Victor
Same issue! No change in Gtalk, don't see any option to make voice call?

Got the update too today. Didn't find anything new yet. Sadly trackball wake still doesn't work...
will the zip file work on rooted GRI40?
How do I update? I have already forgot and search does not work. I tried through recovery by changing name to update.zip.

Hi everyone,
I downloaded the 2.3.6 (latest one) update, followed all instructions and tried to install it. However, I get a "signature verification failed" message.
I bought this phone brand new from some guy on kijiji and currently using it on Rogers - with everything working perfectly fine (minus the annoying search bug) Here are my specs:
current version: 2.3.4
Baseband: I9020AUCKD1
Kernel: 2.6.35.7-ge382d80
Build #: GRJ22
Please help!!!
Thanks!
Are you sure you are installing the update for the i9020a and not the one for the i9020t?

Thanks for the tip. I will hold off on this plan for now then.
I just don't know why I haven't received a SINGLE OTA update till date. I am still stuck on 2.3.4. I didn't even receive one for the GRK39C 2.3.6 a few weeks ago. Any reason why?

I didn't receive the update either. Google cancelled it I believe because it broke USB tethering, which people use a lot more than voice search.
I'm just waiting for the Ice Cream Sandwich update
Couldn't care less about Gingerbread these days.

As stated, the update killed tethering, both USB and hotspot.
As for why you did not get it, the explanation is simple. When El'Goog push out an OTA, it does so to a set percentage of phones, as each day rolls by, they add more and more phones, untill over a week or two period of time, all phones get the update.
with the 2.3.6, the update got canceled before being released to all the phones, your phone just happened to be in the group that had not received it yet.
Now as to why the current one failed, the 2.3.6 that is listed in my sticky applies to ONLY the i9020T/i9023 and NOT the i9020a, so the signature will fail.
if you grab the OTA from the thread that is listing ALL ota's, it should apply, if you still get a signature failure, please state the ENTIRE message as it should indicate what fails the signature.
I got the update last night cause I'm using the i9020A and I'm currently on 2.3.4 ... it failed on me when I pressed install...

2.3.6 that was released on the AT&T/GSM version was pulled several weeks ago. The rollout of the fixed 2.3.6 for that version of the Nexus S has started rolling out as well. There's not a tethering issue with the 2.3.6 that is rolling out to the T-Mobile version.
Has anyone noticed any differences between 2.3.4 and 2.3.6?
I mean in terms of speed, performance and stability.
Is the update really worth it?

Also, be patient on the first boot, can take a while.

I've installed the update yesterday and haven't experienced any problems so far. I haven't noticed any differences either so I don't think this update is worth it because it forces you to root your phone again.
Just download a ROM with 2.3.6 and you'll be good to go
Dear bros, I am really frustrated since it's been months since I had this robot down error when I tried to upgrade my rom via OTA.
I am stil using the original 4.1.2 and every time I got OTA for 4.2.2, I had this error. I read many posts and I understand there's different ways to fix the problem but I didn't manage to success. Could someone read the attached error information and kindly let me know what should I do?
Really appreciate for the help in advance.

Unfortunately I don't think updating CWM will help, I suggest you try to install TWRP, flash the ROM, then re-install CWM if CWM is your favorite (or you have CWM backups) but yeah, TWRP is your best bet right now.

If you want to update to 4.3 get the images for your device from here https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images, uncompress and run the flash all scrip inside. Be sure to backup your d data as you will lose all of it (including internal sd).
This will update your hboot and radio to the latest version.
