Another Froyo Update Received

I just got notification for my Nexus One recently updated to Froyo.
File size was 909k. Installing now and waiting for the phone to boot up as we speak!

i'm on AT&T model Nexus One. Unrooted.
done updating. Build Number is FRF91

Got it too this morning FRF91, says it contains some fixes : unrooted nexus one running 2.2 FRF85B . Carrier : Vodafone in Romania. First time i get an update since 2.1 update 1.

yo WERD!!! i got a "system update" message too. it restarted but the update failed. im rooted. im not sure what it was but...got excited for a moment.

got system update to 2.2 msg about hr ago. however im running kang o rama froyo right now so ill leave it until i get more info.

I've got FRF91 this morning as well. Vodafone in Romania.

Just a note, installed it, it breaks root, but I was able to run superoneclick and i am rooted again.

My N1 isnt rooted, running stock 2.2.1, I never seem to get these updates even when using *#*#CHECKIN#*#* what would be wrong? Bootloader is unlocked, shouldnt I still be able to get OTA updates?

I doubt it has anything to do with GB. It is just a collection of pretty minor changes across the board.
To me it looks like rather bad news: what is the point of pushing out yet another minor update if there is a major update waiting just around the corner?

Same here! Can't remember the last time I got an OTA update. It's almost like I've been taken out of Google's update queue or something. It's very odd :-\

Well ... it is 2.2.2 to N1 and 2.3.2 to NS , at the same time ...

Just got it here. N1 stock was running 2.1. Suddenly came up.
Now running

Cool...looks like it updated your radio version from 4.06 to 5.08?
Did it update your HBoot version from .33 to.35?

I bet it's the SMS bugfixes that have been getting all that press recently and has nothing to do with laying the groundwork for GB or HC or IC or whatever else.

I agree this does seem like bad news.
Android is in a really bad news cycle right now and Google is trying to do damage control.

I have a Nexus S but it is i9020 and I have to rely on ROM developers for the updates. But most of them do update them weekly.

I have Nexus S i9023 rooted. On stock rom and Matrix Kernel V6.5. Market got updated to new version couple of days before. Best phone I ever had

But mine still in old market 2.3.6, i am in stock rom. I knw i can do by installing apk, but still?

m sticking to stock, no rooting nothing at all .. i did all the playing around with my motorola milestone n totally fcked it up .. sold it for 7 grand ..
i honestly dnt even c the reason to root or put custom roms cuz i can do everythin i want with my phone without messing with it ..

and no market update yet, not a big deal .. waiting for ice cream sandwich though ..

I've an i9020T. Why wait for the market update to be pushed when you can install it like any other app using the apk?

i have a i9020T. rooted using Carbon v1.0 + trinity TEUV kernel. All my gapps are updated and some are even inverted colors via updates from DEV. And guys if you haven't rooted and installed custom rom's u haven't felt the true power of a NEXUS phone. You should definitely try it out.

+1 to that. You guys are missing lot of fun without rooted phones. First I was so scared to root my phone considering the warranty. Once rooted never looked back.Now my phone rocks with MIUI and Voodoo sound. Pure awesomeness!!!

Rooted my Nexus S, the week I got it. Been flashing ROMs ever since. Every weekend is the time to test new ROMs . Currently on MV10.10 with KF1 Radio.

OTA 2.3.6 update AGAIN Canada!

For starters I'm with Virgin Mobile Canada running stock os on a I9020A. So awhile back I got the 2.3.6 OTA and today got the same update but much smaller in size about 700kb in size. And now I have a new kernel version! Any ideas why folks?

Yep this is the fix to the broken 2.3.6 ota. Has working tethering/hotspot and all .

I received an OTA notification for 2.3.6 yesterday on my Fido Nexus S. I went to update but it failed because I had a custom recovery installed. I reflashed the stock recovery then rebooted and the OTA message is now gone. I know I can download the update manually and do it that way but I'm just curious how I can get the OTA message again.

What about manual checkin? You can find how to do it here on forum...

It fixes the tethering, but does not fix the search bug.

I am also using a Canadian i9020A on at&t in the U.S. and haven't seen a notification for any of the 2.3.6 updates (bees stuck on 2.3.4) any thoughts? I tried *#*#checkin#*#* today and it said "checkin succeeded" but no update

I received the OTA message but apparently you cannot get it again if the update failed. I just downloaded it and did it manually using CWM.

Will I be able to use the current update from 2.3.4? It says 2.3.6 -> 2.3.6. I won't cause my device to implode if I go 2.3.4 -> 2.3.6 will I?

whats the best way to do this while on 2.3.4? since I can't seem to get ahold of the incremental update file to go from 2.3.4 -> 2.3.6 since it was pulled by google, do I have to do a full ROM flash to the newest 2.3.6 and lose all my data? I'm not rooted so I have no means to back up my apps

I bought my nexus from CPW back in january and I think at the time it was running 2.3.1 and it wasnt getting any OTA updates. I manually upgraded to 2.3.6 but haven't had the OTA for 4.0.4. Has anyone else from over here had it? I ask as I wonder if I will get it as i bought the phone sim free and I am using a vodafone sim.

I bought mine from cpw also in January, and mine came with 2.3.1 i think as well, I manually updated mine to 4.0.3 but have not had a notification to update to 4.0.4, no idea if I will either, but all the updates were done using the official files off here.

Bought my NS from CPW on boxing day. Flashed manually to 4.0.3. and I'm totally at stock , no root.
Still no OTA. I'm on Orange.

I got my NS (i9023) simfree from play.com, came with 2.3, got various OTA updates to 2.3.7, got the OTA update to 4.0.3 in December, still waiting for OTA 4.0.4.
Don't really want to have to back everything up so I can root it in order to do the manual update process!

No for me - bought from CPW with 2.3.1 after 4.0.3 was pulled - manual update to 2.3.6 - no OTA. Running on TMOB.

Bought my simfree Nexus S from CFW, on boxing day.
Using my O2 simcard.
Manually updated to Android 4.0.3 using official stock files from XDA.
Thus far, no OTA. :-(

You could manually update to 4.0.4 too (thats what I did on my dads I9020T )

Except that to do the manual update you have to root & unlock boot, and that requires wiping the device. I know you can backup & restore everything, but it's a lot of faff if the OTA is imminent anyway!

No just download from the link rename to update.zip and flash through stock recovery.

You only have to unlock if you want to flash it with a 4.0.3 recovery. And you never have to root it to apply a OTA update. 2.3.6 stock recovery will apply the update just fine without unlocking.

Incorrect - I already have 4.0.3, and under ICS you need root to do a manual update. If I had 2.3.6 then this would work. Under 4.0.3 it doesn't.

2.3.6 might work fine - but I have 4.0.3, which requires root to do a OTA update manually (see 'A NOTE ABOUT ANDROID 4.X OTAs' here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1445635 )

Not true. You need to unlock the bootloader and flash CWM recovery. There's a difference between root and unlocking the bootloader.

yes, unlocking the boot loader is enough as you basically just need the cwm recovery.
But your data still gets wiped if you unlock the bootloader...even without root.

If you are going to unlock the bootloader and wipe the user data/cache, you might as well flash the stock 4.0.4 image with fastboot, and you don't have to bother with CWM.

Thanks, you're all correct, but as you say it still requires me to wipe & restore (which I wanted to avoid). I'm impatient, so I started to have a go at that but hit problems. I'll start a different thread to sort that out now!

So no one has received the 4.0.4 update in the UK??

I would like to find out too. But just to throw in some hope, I got my 4.0.3 OTA from 2.3.6 back in December via wifi. I bought my simfree phone on best buy, and I'm using the giffgaff (which uses the O2) network.
