New Android 2.2 Software Update for Nexus One phones
Starting today, Nexus One users will begin to receive the Android 2.2 (codenamed Froyo) over-the-air software update on their phones. This update provides some great new features including support for making your handset a portable hotspot and support for Adobe Flash within the browser. For a complete list of everything we’ve included in Android 2.2, please see the Android 2.2 Platform Highlights.
In order to access the update, you will receive a message on your phone's notification bar. Just download the update, wait for it to install, and you should be all set. This update will be rolled out gradually to phones - and most users will receive the notification by the end of the week . We hope you enjoy these new features.

Just got the OTA this morning when I woke up. I was on FRF83, the new update was 507kb and brought my NExus One to FRF85B.
Very cool. Not all that exciting, more of a relief than anything. Clearly something fishy was up as the last few builds didn't seem to have any issues anyway...oh well glad its over. Now wheres gingerbread dammit!?!?!

Oh wow!!! I haven't even had a chance to play with froyo yet and you guys are already pushin for gingerbread......am I that far behind? lol
Great news.
I am curious, don't the at&t phones get a version with a different build number than T-mobile phones? I was reading that at&t guys were getting this same update build as well.
Nope, same build for both, so no more update fragmentation.
I suspect the Euro ones wil get a different build, just for different localisation options.

If i have the stock 2.1 update 1 rom, which is rooted, has kmobs kernel and amon ra recovery, I suppose I wont get an OTA right?
How would I go about updating when someone creates an update.zip? Do i have to wipe anything?
I'm currently running Froyo build FRF50. I can't seem to see the update OTA from systems update. FYI, I'm currently traveling in Vietnam. If I download the .zip recovery of FRF85, will it work?
google wont push the update to every phone at once, it will be a gradual update through all the phones, so you wont see it in system updates until your phone is selected to recieve it.
Got my OTA update a couple of hours ago. On T-Mobile in UK. Update from FRF83 to FRF85B.

You can manually update FRF50 to FRF83, then FRF83 to FRF85B. Or just wait for OTA.
I have build number ERE27. Will I still get the update?
Yes of course you will.
excellent news. waiting for a FRF85B ROM or a FRF83->FRF85B patcher now...
edit: the update.zip was out last night

They usually release only to a few thousand at a time the first few days, then up to 10,000 a day a few days later or something like that, so you might not get it till next week if its truly coming out.
They also have typically announced the update in the Verizonwireless.com forums under the android\incredible section. Until you see it there I would consider it a rumor.
Im just wondering if we will even get the ota if we're rooted or if we will have to unroot first.
According to this, the update is for real:

Oops...can't post a link yet.
hey OP, make this a poll
I've been seeing it everywhere, but haven't gotten it yet.

gonna have to unroot to get updates.
EDIT: I take this back. It depends on your version. If you have an older version of software and you have not turned off notifications you will get the notification to update. If, however you're running a froyo ROM then my understanding is that you won't see the update.
Been on all the android forums today , so far nobody has gotten the update OTA.
If it was out today vzw would confirm it like they did when we got the first update.
All I heard today was a friend of a friend got the update , RIGHT !
Verizon hasn't released the "official" OTA, but there is a leaked version that people are downloading and installing. It appears to be authentic, but since not an OTA may affect future Radio updates if you install it. Plenty of info over at the Droid Forum.

this droid forum for one thing. Check in the development section and you will see several threads with leaked ota discussing this
.
I'm really anxious to get the update, but I'm going to wait for the OTA. I updated my Eris with a leaked OTA, and I ended up regretting it. It made rooting much more difficult, and stopped me from getting the final OTA.

Do you know how it stopped you from getting the final OTA? i would think if you wiped and went back to a stock ROM the network wouldn't know the difference.

Nope. Known issue with the Eris leak.
Well, I'm not sure if if I have the OTA or not, or just part of it.
I rooted with the original instructions, then updated everything with Unrevoked 3.1. Stock ROM installed, have working WIFI tether.
Yesterday, got a message in my notification bar that a Verizon widget was available. I can now add a new Data Usage widget to my desktop, which says "Data Usage 0.0/0 MB Estimate as of N/A". Not sure why it isn't updating, but it's possible that it's related to me having a corporate rather than a personal account.
Never got a prompt to install any OTA. Tethering still works.
Hardware version 0002, Firmware version 2.1-update1
So maybe the Verizon widget was pushed by itself without the full OTA since I don't have the standard recovery?
FYI, the OTA has been halted in favor of packaging it up with the official Android FroYo v2.2 update. So instead up two OTA's we will have one OTA to rule them all!

No, the recommendation would probably be to hold your horses and wait till the OTA get's patched so we can simply upgrade without any hassle.

Official *FINAL* Froyo OTA update thread

I know that HTC had originally said the *final* Froyo build would be pull-able before it begins pushing on 8/3. Has anyone been able to PULL the update as of yet? If so, what software version are you seeing? And is flash included in the update?
I would like to know as well
In before use other custom FroYo roms etc.
i put the leaked froyo on my phone and it has Flash 10.1
I have been checking most of the day. Haven't recieved an update yet. I am rooted. I wonder if the update knows if you are rooted or not. I have been reading about non rooted users getting the update today tho.
oh it was available..... then it was pulled.
i doubt you will see anything until the actual release tomorrow.
and who cares really, its 24 hours...
its going to be more interesting to see what has changed and if they gave it a new Rev # or if they pulled the same sh|t as the last update where they pulled it to fix some things but kept the same Rev #.

Doubt you that anyone is getting the update via OTA manual pull today at all. It will be out tomorrow in groups via OTA push, and if you want you should be able to force DL it. This is if sprint/HTC hold their word on the date at least, they could always say they found something and delay it.
Only way to get it now is download it form a site that got the leaked version friday and install it, or if your rooted and u install one of the many fine rom's available.

When was it available? I have been checking all morning and saw nothing.
He's talking about the one released Friday afternoon. Sprint said, however, that it's not the final build and the one pushed tomorrow will supposedly be a newer build
Kinda Can't Wait But I Rather A Final And More Stable Build/ROM. Just Wonder How Long Until There Is A Rooted Version.

Cannot install 2.3.6 manually on my Nexus S!

Hi everyone,
I downloaded the 2.3.6 (latest one) update, followed all instructions and tried to install it. However, I get a "signature verification failed" message.
I bought this phone brand new from some guy on kijiji and currently using it on Rogers - with everything working perfectly fine (minus the annoying search bug) Here are my specs:
current version: 2.3.4
Baseband: I9020AUCKD1
Kernel: 2.6.35.7-ge382d80
Build #: GRJ22
Please help!!!
Thanks!
Are you sure you are installing the update for the i9020a and not the one for the i9020t?

Thanks for the tip. I will hold off on this plan for now then.
I just don't know why I haven't received a SINGLE OTA update till date. I am still stuck on 2.3.4. I didn't even receive one for the GRK39C 2.3.6 a few weeks ago. Any reason why?

I didn't receive the update either. Google cancelled it I believe because it broke USB tethering, which people use a lot more than voice search.
I'm just waiting for the Ice Cream Sandwich update
Couldn't care less about Gingerbread these days.

As stated, the update killed tethering, both USB and hotspot.
As for why you did not get it, the explanation is simple. When El'Goog push out an OTA, it does so to a set percentage of phones, as each day rolls by, they add more and more phones, untill over a week or two period of time, all phones get the update.
with the 2.3.6, the update got canceled before being released to all the phones, your phone just happened to be in the group that had not received it yet.
Now as to why the current one failed, the 2.3.6 that is listed in my sticky applies to ONLY the i9020T/i9023 and NOT the i9020a, so the signature will fail.
if you grab the OTA from the thread that is listing ALL ota's, it should apply, if you still get a signature failure, please state the ENTIRE message as it should indicate what fails the signature.
I got the update last night cause I'm using the i9020A and I'm currently on 2.3.4 ... it failed on me when I pressed install...

2.3.6 that was released on the AT&T/GSM version was pulled several weeks ago. The rollout of the fixed 2.3.6 for that version of the Nexus S has started rolling out as well. There's not a tethering issue with the 2.3.6 that is rolling out to the T-Mobile version.
Has anyone noticed any differences between 2.3.4 and 2.3.6?
I mean in terms of speed, performance and stability.
Is the update really worth it?
