I am experiencing an unusual problem with SMS,
when I receive a text message and then subsequently delete it, I still keep receiving the same message after a short while sometimes even after a few days, even if I delete it every time.
Telstra already replaced the SIM card in case there was a problem with it, but the problem is still the same.
Could this be a problem with my Atrix or some setting.
I have had this prob off and on for months. Best I can figure after trying everything I could was that its the tower(s). My buddy is on his second Atrix because of this and it still happens to him sometimes too.

Probably your phone/provider is not getting the message received data through to the message sender. If this happens, the senders phone will keep sending the same message for up to 72 hours afterwards. I had this problem sending messages to my sister in Australia from the US. Only on one message I sent her out of a bunch did she keep receiving it over and over. AT&T could do nothing about it at this end, as her phone/Vodafone was the problem not sending a received message back. AT&T advised she put her SIM card in someone elses phone, boot up the phone, wait a few minutes, then put the SIM back in her own phone.

The reason rebooting can solve this problem is because it can reset the send/receive notifications. I believe that in most cases it does not though. This is why my sister had to put her SIM in another phone. Simple reboot may work though.

Sorry I was on my cell phone at work and I had already posted the remedy in another thread earlier in the day. Ill find the thread and post soon. Its tough to type so much with the boss around the corner. ....
It was on the thread about retexting.
I have the problem with incoming messages every few days. I use Go SMS and ill get one message over and over . Then no other incoming sms will come but outgoing will work. I usually find if I reboot with custom tethering APN on this will initiate the problem and also changing batterries from the BH6X to the BH5X seems to initiate it. Usually now pulling the battery and rebooting with the standard APN AT&T will fix the problem for me. Not sure if this is helpful but I was dealing with it a lot and I have had it happen once since the method above is used.

Talked to Motorola Support and he recommended this a first step:
Settings->Applications->Running->Messages->Clear Data
Trying it at the moment, have to see if it worked.
As a second step he recommended to factory reset the phone.

Hi there, due to the fact that the search option doesn't work with less then 4 characters, i can't search for "sms".
But here's my real problem:
I've flashed different roms into my mda vario, after unlocking it. First the Molski.biz rom, then the last original t-mobile rom, but it was toooo slow, i've imediatly deleted it, en flashed the mr clean rom.
But in all roms i have some delay in recieving sms-messages.
Half the time they appear directly after they were sent by my friends, but sometimes i get them after a few hours. for example: it was sent at 15:00, and i received it at 17:30.
And sometimes i don't get any sms-messages, and after an soft-reset, i get 10 at one time, all delayed.
does anyone know what to do about it? or what causes it?
Regards,
Twan
i sometimes get this too though not often its usually when my phone loses signal and when it comes back into signal it wont recevie txt messages until i soft reset or send another txt out then ill get like 4 all at once lol.
Wizard isnt the best phone for txtin i must say as i send a good 1,000 txts a month and so far its poor.
Sounds like a network issue to me...
The network isn't registering the phone or something similar. For SMS the towers "push" the messages to the phone. Queuing them when they don't detect the phone on the network. If the phone is on the network and not getting the messages until it is reset and forced to re-acquire its signal than it is a network problem.
I've seen this problem on a few networks regardless of phone make and model.
I would agree with the above, its a provider issue not a phone issue.
I have a debate with Orange about 10 years ago about not getting text messeges when I loose and then regain service. I was told that when a text is sent to a phone that is off or lost a signal the message is stored until a set time has passed and then delivery is retried, thus getting all the messages at once. The way 'around' this is the disconnect the phone from the network and re-connect. This forces a scan of the message queues and again you will get all messages in one go.
I would assume going in to Flight Mode and back will do the same thing as a soft boot, but I have not tested this.
Okay,
so i could suggest it's not quitte an rom- or wizzard-issue, but a network-issue.
I also think going to flightmode and back will solve the problem. So we will hear from you if that's a solution?
I'm busy reflashing a new rom into my wizzard.

This is happening to me all of a sudden and its not a network issue. I have 4 phones on my account and i texted between all of them and only my phone won't get the messages UNLESS I reboot my phone or use smartskey to close a window.
Here is the strange part, when a text message is sent to my phone, the screen turns on, but doesn't show the message pop.
Is smartskey blocking it?
Also, closing a window by clicking on the X also kicks the message to come through
Hi guys,
I'm having some difficulty with sending SMS messages. Its sporadic. Sometimes they send immediately, sometimes not at all. Its very frustrating.
For example, the day I got the phone (last week) I sent 2 text messages. I didn't hear back from anyone but thought nothing off it. I checked my messages and they were time stamped with the time I sent them at so I presumed they had gone.
That evening, about 6 hours later, I got my two replies. The people had only just got them, hours later. One of them wasn't impressed because it was intructions for something they needed to do 4 hours previously!
So, I turned on delivery reports on each sent message to make sure they sent.
Over, the next two days, I had no problems, delivery reports come in immediately within seconds of me sending my SMS message.
Meanwhile, I called my network (Vodafone) to see if there were any issues with network. they reported none. I checked the message centre number and verified it against the network one. They matched, so I thought all was in order... except I would have to get annoying delivery reports cluttering up my Text message inbox until I was sure the service was working 100%.
Earlier today, I sent about 3 important text messages, got no delivery reports, so I texted my other phone to see if the messages were going through. Nada. I was annoyed.
I'm thinking.. whats going on?
So about 10 minutes ago I shut down the phone and booted up again. Within 10 minutes I was getting all my delivery reports and replies from people!
Does anyone know what I could be doing wrong, what setting needs to be activated etc?
Obviously I can't use the text messaging on the device if I can't trust it to just work like pretty much every handset I've owned since... year dot.
PS: I spoke to Vodafone care team who said my sim card must be old; newer sim cards (128k) are needed for these "high tech" phones.
But I just took my sim out of my Nokia N97 (never had a problem) last week AND messages ARE going through on the Leo occasionally and only after a reboot, which is utterly pointless.
This is the last thing I thought I'd have issues with on a device like this..
Any advice? Have I missed something?
Thanks.
Same here, I thought I messed up something in the sms service or so.
Done many hard resets and soft resets. But still no help.
I'm experiencing exactly the same problems. Also Vodafone and no one seems to get any sms from me.
Okay, this ain't good!!
since you both have vodafone, and I haven't seen/heard about other people having these problems, I'd say it was voda's fault

Now tell me, why? I've never had problems on my previous phones.
I don't think the vodafone on the Ireland branch is the same as the one in the Netherlands
Kinda happy to hear that you guys also having the same issue.
It can probally be patched/fixed by htc. I googled for "htc sms hotfix"
And htc is also facing sms issues on other devices.
sigh... How will I live without outgoing SMS capability? so lame... hope you guys will find a fix soon.
seems to be the same like the sms bug in previous manila 2.1 build. outgoing messages weren't send, but only on some specific providers.
How could such a fundamental and critical phone component get screwed up? That just doesn't make sense. Anyone got ideas out there for a fix or we we have to wait for HTC to patch this? What about people who purchased a Leo and have no knowledge of this site etc deal with something like this? They buy a 500+ euro phone, try to send a text message, no joy. Baffled, annoyed, frustrated. Phone would get returned right? Not happy.

Just had this problem on t-mobile UK. The thing is that if you're in conversation mode it actually gets inserted as if it's been sent. I looked in outbox and it was stuck there, even after pressing 'retry send'. I tried a reset but it was still stuck there, so i retyped the message and sent that, both ended up being sent, with the origanal sms being time stamped as if it was sent ages ago!
I sometimes have this problem too....
O2 here.
In case it helps, I'm not having any problems on 3UK. Are you all certain it's not a network issue?
Perhaps it is to be honest... and perhaps tapping 'resend' just makes it happen in the background so it just appears that it does nothing.
I still find of the most annoying things to be the fact that the auto capitalise new sentence option to not work.... it's bad for perfectionists!!

+1 !!
It might look like it's mainly vodafone but in the UK at least it by far the biggest network, therefore it's bound to affect more voda users. Only 15 posts and already i see vodafone, att, O2, t-mobile, different countries, different networks.
This is the same issue that I've had this week with my Touch Pro running the Leo ROM, the device seemed to be turning all my SMS into MMS and then not sending them, though the odd one would sneak through. The problem has been fixed with an update to the custom ROM I'm using. It's the Energy ROM by the way. I'll send the author a message to see if he can pop on here and offer advice on the problem.
same here O2 in my phone.. even receive some messages later.. pls help us someone

First of all apologies if this has been covered before.
My son in law got himself a new Atrix yesterday and so far he is very happy with it. Exept any txt messages he gets keep coming again and again about every 1/2 hour this has been going on all day and I am the one he is blaming as I was the one who recommended the Atrix to him.
If anybody has had this problem or anyone knows the answer I will be much obliged as the way things are going I will not get any sleep tonight.
Sounds like someone is using SMS Bomber to send him repeat text messages. Download Anti SMS Bomber from the market, and make sure it runs all the time, that should do the trick.

Is it the same exact text message over and over? I had this happen to me last night, except it was the same exact text coming from my girlfriend.
I turned off my phone for the night and the next morning I received about 30 text messages (all from her) saying the exact same thing. I solved it just a little bit ago with an SBF flash.

This happens to me anytime my phone is off or in airplane mode and someone texts me more than once. The first one sent comes over and over again.
You don't have to SBF flash.
With the phone on, pull the battery (and I reseat the sim, but that's probably just silly) and pop it back in. I usually get the message one more time and then any that were queued up behind it.
I use GoSMS but I also got it with Handcent... Stock doesn't seem to do it.
Oh. I had mine with the SMS app (from GBlur). I think I had a total of ~170 messages from her saying the same thing. I did all of that and even tried separate SMS clients but nothing worked except an SBF flash
Thanks to one and all for your advice.
We sorted it in the end by phoning Orange and they advised the pull battery while the phone was still on. After re-boot they pushed all the queued up messages. Up till now things are looking OK but S-i-L is a bit reluctent to try messages.
I think he is either going to try the Anti SMS Bomber or SBF flash, it's up to him I got into enough trouble for recommending the Atrix. He is now trying to do a swap for my SE Xperia Arc. (Thinking about it).
That does fix it... it is of course subject to happening again if he gets a message while the phone is off. Fairly easy fix though, i've never had to have them push my messages. My wife sends me enough that she pushes them for me
Totally trade him!
Yes, it still happening with me. Try to disable Cell Broadcast on Wifi & others configuration menu...
Mine doesnt have this menu, but i edited it on settings.db and still spamming the sms.

Ive had the Atrix since launch never had this problem, my buddy who i recommended the Atrix started getting 20+ same text two days ago. Then yesterday I had the same problem for the first time. We both called Att, they were useless. The problem resolved itself for both of us last night. A bunch pushed through all at once. No sbf no battery pull, but if it happens again I def will pull battery. No duplicates in 24 hours, glad thats over. My phone was definately not turned off or in airplaine mode when it started.
This all points at a network level problem. Why would the phone redeliver its own texts?
We had this with another phone here at work a while back when someone was abroad and it was a network level issue that caused it.

I agree, I'm assuming it's happening when sending to you fails somehow, out of range or no signal or whatever (airplane mode, shutting down system) and the request gets stuck.
Sad that AT&T can't get that fixed though.
Okay so no duplicate text since I posted yesterday, or, two days ago.? Just sent my buddy (^who also had the prob^) a text asking it he had gotten anymore duplicates. I received three back that said "no". I sent one saying, "are you joking?". He called and asked if I was f***ing with him, hes getting duplicates of my messages also. So the issue went away for 48 hours and came back when I mentioned it!! *facepalm
Pulling the battery doesn't help! The issue resolved itself before w/o a factory reset so I am hesitant to do one. I agree with the thinking that it is a network issue. What would you do XDA friends?
EDIT: Im on 4.1.83 GladRoot GingerBlur. He is on 4.1.83 GladRoot NO GBlur. Im using Handcent and I think he is too.
I Still with duplicated messages... thats making me replace atrix for anything else... just atrix have this insue.
I'm happy to say that since I last posted on this thread there have been no more mass duplication messages
I am extra happy about that as I did the swap and am loving My Atrix.

Yes i was, but I uninstalled it recently. I am no longer getting duplicate texts. my friend IS still having the prob. Att has sent him another Atrix, we are going to copy his apps to the new phone soon and see if they stop.
Is there an issue with RCB on the Atrix?
Interestingly im running that too. I haven't seen the issue in a week or so but next time I will try disabling it too. I know everytime it gains root access it FC's the Voice Commands app.

Atrix - Alien Rom.
Apparently my phone is sending the same texts to some people over and over again.
My bill is already jacked up, any ideas to fix this?
This is a network level issue and not a phone issue if rebooting does not fix it.
You will have to conact your network
This issue has to do with the tower you're on. Sometimes shoddy tower signals can result in a mix up and your phone thinking a message insn't sent when it is. So it gets stuck in this loop of sending a message repeatedly. I would try turning your phone off, taking your SIM card out, booting up, turning off phone again and replacing SIM card.
edit: OH yeh and delete the sent messages before you do.
I hope you guys are correct because i remember having a problem with an old Motorola chocolate a white back which I purchased on ebay for my girl friend, I had to buy her a new phone from AT&T because the one I got her was spamming out text messages
I have had the reverse problem of recieving multiple (sometimes infinite) messages with my Atrix, i also believe its a tower problem. But I assure you, it is better to send than recieve.

Had this issue with sending a message to my sister. The problem is with the network the people you are sending to. Their network, (even if it's the same provider), is not sending message received data back to your phone. Call your provider and tell them. When this happened to me I made sure I wasn't being charged for the same international text message over and over. The constant repeat of sending the message will stop after 72 hours, as this is when the networks are set to cancel repeats for non delivery. I spent an hour on the phone with AT&T before they finally figured out the problem was network related.

Sent using the phone with the biggest balls....Atrix 4G
Hey all,
I recently bought an (AT&T) LG G2 off eBay, as my iPhone 5S just wasn't cutting it for me.
The day before it came I went into AT&T and asked for a new nano-SIM, it was given to me with no questions asked. The next day, I got it, put the SIM card in, and called to activate it. Everything went fine with customer service, and it activated with no problem, or so I thought.
Everything was looking good, and before I got off the phone with AT&T, I rebooted just to be positive. Once it was back on, I realized in the status bar in the top left it said "Roaming Indicator Off". I told the rep, and he said that was very weird, so we began troubleshooting. Around a half an hour into this, I received a text, I went to go respond to it and when I pressed send it said "No USIM Card". I told him about this as well, so we began troubleshooting both issues.
After about an hour he bumped me up to Android technical support, where I painfully continued with troubleshooting. During all of this I accidentally tried to make a call, and voila, it all went away. The status bar now said "AT&T" and I was able to send texts just fine. I told him about it and just said "That's weird, but awesome!". I rebooted the phone one more time just to make sure, and what do you know, it did it again. The same message came up in my status bar, as well as the inability to send texts.
There was a lot of things tried to fix it, including a master reset, the manual configuration of APN's, and a different text message center address. Trust me when I say, we've done just about everything possible. In fact, the next day he called me back with an LG rep on the line, they too couldn't figure it out.
At first they thought it was a hardware problem, but since making one phone call after a reboot fixes everything, they're leaning toward software. However, there was nothing else they could do.
I guess it isn't really that big of a deal, considering I can just make a call everytime I restart my phone. But I'd really like to get rid of the problem completely.
Thanks for any help you may be able to offer!
-Andrew
