I would like to change my mac address and cannot find out how. Thanks in advance.

I'm almost positive you cannot. If I remember back from computer 101 a MAC address is hardcoded into the hardware.
Sent from my LG Optimus V using Tapatalk
You could try editing the MACaddress plain text file on the ROM partition... I'd strongly encouraging backing it up first... just in case.
I don't know if it will do you any good... but it is there, so i assume its there for a reason.
@DizzyDen,
What is the path? TIA

That's the difference between Computer 101 and Computer 450
MAC addresses are burned into the hardware but transmitted/recognized using software...

So one cannot in reality change it but you can spoof it?
I think I stopped after computer 330.

Pretty much. You could read the hardcoded value from the network adapter. Then, you could either let the adapter do its own thing, or you could tell it to use and respond to a different MAC address. In Windows, the spoofed MAC is contained under a registry key; in Linux, we use ifconfig. Quite simple, in practice
Now, Android... well, that's not really Linux, is it :3

Absolutely brilliant news (as far as I'm concerned).
Thanks to fellow member wu5262 for looking after his software so well and keeping it, he e-mailed anyone needing the file in question 'WM5torage'.
See attachment for upload.
This bit of software literally turns the Athena (as well as most other WM5 devices) into a mass storage device allowing one to transfer files directly to your SD card or Micro drive, as it will be recognized as a Drive on your PC.
It simply works wonderfully and completely eliminates the need to use the slow and unreliable ActiveSync application to simply move files from the PC to the device.
I was having problems moving large files in this manner via Activesync (AS) to the Micro Drive (MD) and AS would not cope with it on my Ameo but it works fine on the Dopod U1000, implying that the ROM on the Dopod variant is considerably better put together than others. Wu has had no major problems with his device since he got it.
I can now report that I have no issues with the UK version of the Ameo whatsoever!!
Using WM5torage, one can very easily transfer huge files directly to the MD. I just moved 2.4 GB of movies (3 DVD rips - my own legal copies ) in about 12 minutes!!
So no problems with the MD speed in this regard. I've also tested the movies and there is no corruption..everything works flawlessly!
Instructions on how to do it:
1) Download the attached WM5torage.cab...either directly to your device or any other way you want.
2) Install the cab to 'Device' and softe reset straight after.
3) Now to find the file;
Go to...My Device\Program Files\WM5torage.....there it is!
Good time to make a shortcut and place it somewhere more logical!
4) Copy the file from the folder and go to....My Device\Windows\Start Menu\....
Now click the menu button...bottom right corner of the screen...and select 'edit' ...then paste shortcut...rename the file 'WM5torage' (otherwise it will always say "shrtcut to WM5torage") that's it...we're good to go!
5) Finally return to the start menu and you should see it there...WM5torage!!
Connect your USB lead to PC & Ameo/Athena. Don't worry if Active sync says error or even connects...just shut down any pop-up messages or Active sync.
6) On your device under your start menu, Simply click WM5torage (it will say 'Inactive' - hence the reason why nothing happens when you plug your USB lead into the device and PC)...and select Activate.
Immediately your PC should start to recognize your USB mass storage device....be patient and then a window will show up as if you had plugged in a USB device or inserted a memory card into your PC.
You can check what device has now been recognized as a drive under 'My Computer' on your PC.....it'll say something like L:drive or similar depending on your PC's configuration.
Happy fast transferring.
Don't forget to 'Deactivate' WM5torage when your finished otherwise Active Sync might not recognize your device the next time you want to sync with your PC.
Let us know how you got on.
All thanks to wu5262...Cheers mate.
Don't forget the attachment below!!

Look, Nuclear, what is your problem? why you are saying his post is garbage? are you just unhappy because you haven't got your HTC Advantage? Well, mate you have to wait more so cool down.
So you are going to use card reader to transfer file? I would love to see how you can plug the Micro Drive in the Card Reader !!
Goodness me..I just realized you haven't even got your Athena yet...so you couldn't possibly understand why I posted this 99% garbage post.
Apply that remaining 1% to your existing 1% of intelligence...you'll need it for the Athena. Sorry for calling you names just now..din't know at the time that you were retarded.

Nice to hear your have no problem as well now.

you need to enable remote control on your pc, you need the IP as well. i personally have a static IP, so it's quite easy to set up. user name and password is the same on your pc.
I have to say this, if you haven't done remote control before, it might be quite hard to set it up.
I will try to post some screen shot later on.

Hi wu, I remember using the following Registry Settings on my Terminal Services and this was the only way I could get a reasonable speed on it.
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Terminal Server Client]
"BitmapPersistCacheSize"=dword:0000000A
"BitmapCacheSize"=dword:000005DC
"Keyboard Layout"="00000409"
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Terminal Server Client\Default]
"BitmapCachePersistEnable"=dword:00000001
Also I definitely agree with you! Crossbow and WM5 Terminal Services are way too different! Crossbow is awesome for this!I hope this helps!

As far as i know..
you can never change Mac addresses on any type of device..
MAC addresses are burned into the hardware more specifically the wireless card so I really doubt it can be changed.

I understand what you mean. You want to spoof your MAC address as something else. Many products have thus ability (routers, PCs, xbox, etc); although its usually only for wired interfaces not wireless interfaces. The only use i can see for wanting to spoof your wireless MAC would be for cracking into wireless networks protected by MAC address control.

There is more use for that.
I have just installed Android (froyo 2.2) on my HTC HD2, and that uses a different MAC, so I want to change it back to what it actually is.
This is sweet. Can even connect using Android Commander with this while wireless.

This is awesome. I use my laptop the most, and now I can start the bootanimation so people think I'm cool from the other room
are you serious? you have to load the android SDK. ADB is NOT a command built into ANY os! obviously your new to computers too. after installing the sdk be sure to create an environment variable pointing to the tools folder so that you can call adb from any directory.

I'm probably being a bit rude here but it very much irks me when people blindly type terminal commands with no knowledge of what it is they are entering.

Nice find! Works great!
I installed the SDK and connected to my phone via "adb connect 192.168.1.4:5555". But it doesn't show up as a drive / usb drive.
How do I make it work? Is there a command to mount it as a drive??
thx
Just a script I wrote...
Hey guys.
I just wrote a quick batch script that automatically starts the wireless connection to your phone. It's a lot quicker IMO than typing adb connect blah blah blah. All you need to do is change the IP address in the script to whatever IP address your phone uses. I recommend reserving the IP in your router so you won't need to change it.
adb server is out of date ?
I keep getting this error when trying to use adb wireless
***Edit - somehow it just started working*** I can't explain how, but I'm all set now -
What do I do?
When the command screen comes up (the black box), what do I type in? I have the 192.168 etc number, but it appears that I need to type in something before that. I tried variations of adb connect, but it does not work. It looks like I need to either 1) Change the drive; 2) issue a command or both. I'm a newbie at this. Thanks
I dont have a samba server, and am not interested in installing one.
Why is it every file explorer seems to require a SMB connection to browse a windows network?
Can't our phones simply see the windows network in order to browse teh files? every time i look for a file explorere they suggest Astro ro ES Explorer but they both dont see my shares and seem to require SMB.
What do I need to do?!
Thank you for your time and answers.
PS. i may not be understanding this so forgive me if i am getting it all wrong.
I was sure i did not have these problems with the samsung or the desire z.

That's the protocol required to connect to and browse a windows network.

All the guides i see on line that speaks of setting up SMB or Samba mention linux. Is there any way around it so linux is not in the picture? Linux sucks. I hate it. It is the devils OS. It is a plague. Linus Torvalds should have thougth twice before inventing such a thing.
The above statements are purely opinion and not meant to encompass any vast population.
Ummm, you don't have to install SMB on Windows. SMB is the protocol Windows uses to share files and printers, it's already included. Samba is an application for Unix systems to implement the SMB protocol.
OP, can you elaborate more on your problem? I have ES file explorer connecting to my Windows shares just fine and I didn't have to install anything on my Windows machine for it to work.

I don't know if it's something to do with the way my network is set up, but when I try to scan for a share using any of the explorers it will either not find any available shares or when it finds an IP that is on my network it returns an error like "server is not reachable". at one point i had another error that mentioned SMB not configured or something. I'm not getting that now.
I guess I just need to know, do i need to have a login for the machine? do i need to ensure certain accounts in the permissions?
OK, Here's a good error.
in on my netbook I created a share, shared with everyone read and right.
in astro smb i added the server IP (//192.168.0.15) and a Share. nothing else in the fields as i dont log onto my machine
I get server not found. look at details and i get:
jcifs.smb.SmbException:Failed to connect: Netbook7<00>/192.168.0.15
jcifs.util.TransportException
java.io.IOException:invalid payload size: 405
i added a new key in the connection according to this

but now its complaining that i dont have the right user name or password. Again, i dont have any login on this machine.

my next questions is obviously, is there any way around not having to have a user name and password?

Blame windows 7. For some reason it requires user/pass even on shares open to everyone. You should be able to get around this on a xp machine though. I know my storage server (running that plague of an os called linux) doesn't require any user/pass

Sent from my SM-G900T using Tapatalk
It's very difficult to crack WPA networks. From my understanding, packet injection works only for WEP encrypted networks. Your best, and unfortunately impractical, bet is a brute force dictionary attack. There is a plethora of Windows and Linux software that can accomplish this but this method can take years. A phones processor is even weaker so you may be out of luck
