Ameo Micro Drive.....Perfect Now..Thanks Wu5262!! - Advantage X7500, MDA Ameo General

Absolutely brilliant news (as far as I'm concerned).
Thanks to fellow member wu5262 for looking after his software so well and keeping it, he e-mailed anyone needing the file in question 'WM5torage'.
See attachment for upload.
This bit of software literally turns the Athena (as well as most other WM5 devices) into a mass storage device allowing one to transfer files directly to your SD card or Micro drive, as it will be recognized as a Drive on your PC.
It simply works wonderfully and completely eliminates the need to use the slow and unreliable ActiveSync application to simply move files from the PC to the device.
I was having problems moving large files in this manner via Activesync (AS) to the Micro Drive (MD) and AS would not cope with it on my Ameo but it works fine on the Dopod U1000, implying that the ROM on the Dopod variant is considerably better put together than others. Wu has had no major problems with his device since he got it.
I can now report that I have no issues with the UK version of the Ameo whatsoever!!
Using WM5torage, one can very easily transfer huge files directly to the MD. I just moved 2.4 GB of movies (3 DVD rips - my own legal copies ) in about 12 minutes!!
So no problems with the MD speed in this regard. I've also tested the movies and there is no corruption..everything works flawlessly!
Instructions on how to do it:
1) Download the attached WM5torage.cab...either directly to your device or any other way you want.
2) Install the cab to 'Device' and softe reset straight after.
3) Now to find the file;
Go to...My Device\Program Files\WM5torage.....there it is!
Good time to make a shortcut and place it somewhere more logical!
4) Copy the file from the folder and go to....My Device\Windows\Start Menu\....
Now click the menu button...bottom right corner of the screen...and select 'edit' ...then paste shortcut...rename the file 'WM5torage' (otherwise it will always say "shrtcut to WM5torage") that's it...we're good to go!
5) Finally return to the start menu and you should see it there...WM5torage!!
Connect your USB lead to PC & Ameo/Athena. Don't worry if Active sync says error or even connects...just shut down any pop-up messages or Active sync.
6) On your device under your start menu, Simply click WM5torage (it will say 'Inactive' - hence the reason why nothing happens when you plug your USB lead into the device and PC)...and select Activate.
Immediately your PC should start to recognize your USB mass storage device....be patient and then a window will show up as if you had plugged in a USB device or inserted a memory card into your PC.
You can check what device has now been recognized as a drive under 'My Computer' on your PC.....it'll say something like L:drive or similar depending on your PC's configuration.
Happy fast transferring.
Don't forget to 'Deactivate' WM5torage when your finished otherwise Active Sync might not recognize your device the next time you want to sync with your PC.
Let us know how you got on.
All thanks to wu5262...Cheers mate.
Don't forget the attachment below!!

woah another long post mostly 99% garbage. Anyways all laptops come with built in card readers. my laptop has all mini-sd micro-sd sd every card reading capability. And thats much faster than athena's and activesync. lol this is so unneccessary because i never transfer files via USB... slow as hell. Always use internal ^^

Go and find something productive to do.

Glad it's all working out for you....I cannot be bothered to get into another argument with the likes of you.
This post was for those who recognise the problems mentioned above. I have now played with 3 brand new UK version Ameos and all suffer the same problem...so this was a solution for me and those who have the same experience...not twats like you.

Look, Nuclear, what is your problem? why you are saying his post is garbage? are you just unhappy because you haven't got your HTC Advantage? Well, mate you have to wait more so cool down.
So you are going to use card reader to transfer file? I would love to see how you can plug the Micro Drive in the Card Reader !!

Goodness me..I just realized you haven't even got your Athena yet...so you couldn't possibly understand why I posted this 99% garbage post.
Apply that remaining 1% to your existing 1% of intelligence...you'll need it for the Athena. Sorry for calling you names just now..din't know at the time that you were retarded.

Well said wu.

BTW, mackaby007, in the post you say "Wu has had no major problems with his device since he got it." haha, actually, i have no issue at all for my device. I am very surprise how complete this Rom is, especially it's their first release.
Nice to hear your have no problem as well now.
I was just playing with remote control just now, hehe, i was using my DOPOD U1000 to control my Vista, nice! Will show it to my friends tomorrow, and they will all say: "wow, how did you manage to install vista on your Athena!"
haha

you need to enable remote control on your pc, you need the IP as well. i personally have a static IP, so it's quite easy to set up. user name and password is the same on your pc.
I have to say this, if you haven't done remote control before, it might be quite hard to set it up.
I will try to post some screen shot later on.

Wu... Please can you send me a copy too, really appreciate it!

Hi wu, I remember using the following Registry Settings on my Terminal Services and this was the only way I could get a reasonable speed on it.
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Terminal Server Client]
"BitmapPersistCacheSize"=dword:0000000A
"BitmapCacheSize"=dword:000005DC
"Keyboard Layout"="00000409"
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Terminal Server Client\Default]
"BitmapCachePersistEnable"=dword:00000001
Also I definitely agree with you! Crossbow and WM5 Terminal Services are way too different! Crossbow is awesome for this!I hope this helps!

PocketPC JAM as a USB drive- WinXP?

Hi all,
My first post here...
Is it possible for PCs (Windows XP) to recognise the JAM as a removable USB drive in My Computer without installing the active sync software? I could make good use of my 1GB SD card if this is possible.
Any information is much appreciated.
Thanks.
No
Unfortunately it's only possible @ WM2005 and thats not gonna work with our little machines. (Yes I'm a little pesstimistic  )
yup tried WM2005 and it works! hehehe!
One would consider certain things as 'essential' must haves- maybe a subject view.
So there's absolutely nothing that can be updated in WM2003 to allow to do this??
P.S. What devices are running the WM2005 edition?
I think you should develop some piece of software by yourself
I've searched many hours and there is no one who can make it run.
(doesn't mean it's impossible )
Well, is it really that neccessary? You can use ActiveSync on your home computer and bluetooth or IR for file exchanges on other computers (when they have a bluetooth or IR adapter). Usually, you don't have the cable with you anyway, do you? For the few cases where you still really need it, you can download ActiveSync and install it. No big deal, is it?
It will be much easier because you don't need a USB memory stick anymore. But when you use the same computers (Work, home) then it's no problem to install Activesync
Ok, i get the point - but still, you need the cable which you don't always carry with you. Also, you can use it like a (very slow) USB stick when using IR or BT.
There are 're-coiling' usb cables that fit on your keyring/pocket...
For me it's all about having one unit do many things- the JAM/Magician is very close to doing that.
I am using the Norton Commander clone called "Servant Salamander" http://www.altap.cz/
This file manager has a plugin that allows one to copy and manage files directly on the device -- very conveniently!
frax,
Would I be correct in saying that this application has to be installed on the PC for file transfer to be performed? If this is the case then using ActiveSync is the same thing no?
yep, it is more or less the same thing. I think it is actually using activesync for the interface, so that needs to be installed as well.
There's an application called Softick Card Export that allows you to do just this. www.softick.com
When you install it it puts a system icon in the bottom right of the today screen where you can select either activesync or card modes. In card mode it works just like a memory stick (with the SD card only readable).
Ive been using it for a few weeks now and it works a treat on all xp machines that I've tried - doesn't need activesync (at least not in xp) and is much quicker than copying through activesync.

I'll just confirm that. It works great! And like fishes234 says, it transfers files at USB1.0 speed. ActiveSync is so slow compared to USB1 (lol i'm not going to mention USB2)

Server-assigned IP address??? You're kidding me right? I think I need some insight into what ActiveSync is actually doing here!
Yep, it's rant time boys & girls....
Now as an aside, is it just me but is something basically amiss with these things - Sync'ing to a PC SHOULD BE A BLOODY DODDLE- EASY - NO DICKING ABOUT, but hell no - infinite levels of crap to wade through encountering insane use of TLAs (yep, there you go, another one). God, why can't they K I S S ???? (and another one). What I mean is that I've been using PCs since day dot. I am an honours degree qualified electronics engineer - I desgin hardware & write real time embedded software systems, so if I am getting pi$$ed off with the damn thing, what chance has your average mug in the street???????

PS
TLA = Three Letter Anacroynims (sp)
K I S S KEEP IT SIMPLE! STUPID.
Good-o, know one knows how to do this (what should be simple, but hell no) task.
Bloody great!
Can't sync to a PC, can't install any programs, utterly useless as a PPC device all down to some sh1te convoluted bollocks piece of software.
I can now measure time wasted in YEARs on similar, badly written software.
Andy
hey dude
take a few deep breaths and lets start at the beginning eh
this should be a simple straight forward process and suspect you have missed the simple bit and launched straight into complex related issues, I suspect that it relates to the using of a USB Hub.
so lets "KISS" ehm, slight cough, blush
1. Dont use a USB hub
2. Delete all partnerships that you have created on both the PC and the PPC
3. Ensure you are running XP SP2 on the PC
4. Ensure you are running ActiveSync 4.1
5. Reboot both the PC and soft reset PPC
6. Go into task manager on the PPC and ensure activesync didnt auto start on soft reset
7. Open outlook on the PC and ensure it is upto date and connected if you are running it with exchange
8. Plug the PPC via the Sync cable directly into the USB port on the PC (not a hub)
9. Wizard should start, at this point, untick the box about exchange server
10. Following the wizard, deselect all options for synchronisation
(we can add some options later, but lets get to the basic partnership setup first)
Now then, those are the simple basic steps. What I would like to know before we get much further is:
1. What do you see? Did you get a wizard pop up to create the partnership?
2. Did you successfully create the partnership
3. Did it synchronise on the activesync screen
4. Did you get an error message on the PC? If so what is the description? If so, go to the PPC open up activesync on the PPC and tell me what the error code is, if any and details of last sync?
If you have successfully created your partnership and it says synchroniZed even though nothing is actually sync'd yet, we have a good start. You can now start installing programs before we sync any data.
I personally choose to extract the cab files that are used during the sync file and copy them to my SD card so I dont need an activesync connection to install.
The CAB files are normally located in \program files\microsoft activesync\ once you have run the setup program on the PC. Alternatively, they can be found in their own personal program directory. I have only ever found one situation that I couldnt find the cab file for. Now all of my source programs are on an SD card and can be reinstalled anytime, anywhere without my PC.
Eitherway, if this is now working, and you have your partnership, first sync something simple like your favourites, or files.
Once this happens, can you now choose just your contacts, then your calendar, then your tasks.
At this point, you can move one step further and decide whether you would like to use your outlook email to sync directly, or through a GPRS/WIFI facility directly to an exchange server.
Okidoki
Thats enough for now. Lets get back to the beginning and work through this simply.

Cheeers
@simon_darley thank you very much that was very helpful (btw, no hubs to speak of).
Story so far.
Let me get this off my chest first...
OH MY GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD!
How friggin COMPLICATED can something get???? 2 days of searching, reading, installing, uninstalling, falling down holes & climbing out again, faffing & frigging about. All of it needlessly!
Bad buggy software - as a result, many hoops to jump through.
See these were my goals & I think I have it (almost) all sussed now:
1) Sync to PC via a physical USB cable - easy? - nope. ONLY reason to do this is for installation of software. (Sod that sync tasks bollocks, I couldn't give a toss). A little snipped from some dude (here) mentioned the fact that this was unnecessary & could be achived via copying CAB files onto SD media & then installing software on the PPC itself - GREAT
2) WiFi connection (at work) so I could browse the internet - why? Because it was there & I was interested to see if I could do it. 3 hours later I'm in - thankyou very much! Some arsehole programmer thought it would be a good idea to make the SSID (a 26 character HEX code), CASE SENSITIVE and relay the keystrokes back to the user as a series of sodding '*'s.... In the process I've had to learn all sorts of stuff about EAP, LEAP, WiFi LAN access point (Beacons), Wireless clients, The 802.11 standard & hence WEP (and dynamic WEP keys), SSID, EAP, LEAP, WPA TKIP & finally the fact that of all those listed, my PDA uses the adapter: "tiacxwln Compatable Wireless Ethernet": to use server-assigned IP addresses (i.e. use DHCP).
3) A nice simple BlueTooth connection to my PC so that I can browse the internet on my PDA while my wife does the same on the PC - This turned out to be a TWO DAY exercise: Let me list some problems.
Bug - Can't use the WinXP SP2 Bluetooth drivers.
Bug - Can't install the WIDCOMM drivers as they are not certified. (There is a workaround guide, but COME ON GUYS!!).
Bug - If you've pissed about with BlueTooth COM ports, WIDCOMM can't 'go back' as it were to use the lower COM ports (COM9 & below), the assigned COM ports keep increasing. This would be fine if it were not for a ...
BUG - PDA BlueTooth can only use COM ports up to COM9
ARRRRRRRRRRRGH
Hence: Had to uninstall WIDCOMM
Hence: Had to reinstall WinXP BlueTooth driver
Hence: could then (in a convoluted manner) 'recover' the com ports from COM9 and below.
Hence: Then had to uninstall the WinXP USB Driver
Hence: Then had to reinstall the WIDCOM drivers (and go through all that certification bollox again).
Hence: The PC Could then be set up to use a Serial Comms 'service' on a COM port assignment on a COM9 port or less!!!!
Hence: Then had to REBOOT
Hence: Then had to remove any partnerships
Hence: Then had to use a password OF MORE THAN 8 CHARACTERS - some guy mentioned It does allow you to enter less than 8 characters but doing so screws thing up. ARRRGH AGIAN
Hence: New partnership on PPC
FINALLY A BLUETOOTH LINK to the PPC
More dicking about making my internet connection an available 'service' over Bluetooth'
FINALLY get to connect to the internet
But, hold on, the fat bird isn't singing yet, GPRS is now sticking it's nose in insisting it's the (expensive) path to the internet & keeps popping a nag up, regardless of the fact that I keep telling it to f-off!
Oh, and the damn thing seems to keep disconnecting every 5 mins. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!!!!!!
ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHH
Anyway, getting there
Phew. Anyone who knows how to get rid of that poxy GPRS - 3G thing (yes I know its a medium so I guess I mean that useless boil on the arse of humanity called WAP) & also how to keep the damn thing connected - I think it's an Activesync issue....
Anyway, I'm now off to the top of my local bell tower with a fully loaded high-powered rifle with telescopic sights & 10,000 rounds of ammo, disguised as a postman.
Andy
hey andy
werent you the guy that got a nice cheap phone hacked the parts, put it back together, and now over the moon.... ?? thought it was you i read about, may be not.
Hmmmm gprs..... hmmmm fun aint it.
try this cab file..... it stops the auto detect and thus removes the "G" in the screen, I found it effective.
I think you can still connect it, but have to go through the manual process of going into connections, press and hold, select connect. otherwise it wont auto connect at all, it saved me heaps, and I never really used it at all. Otherwise, you can simply go in and delete the settings yourself when you like.
Re Activsync, you may find that it auto starts, and thus tries to start the gprs. this can be rectified by going to activesync on the PDA, create a server source, as fictitious entry. find the connection periods and set all to manual. Then delete the settings entirely. This should prevent activesync from autostarting, and more importantly kick starting GPRS.
oh well, think of it on the bright side, you are getting to use all tha education you paid a fortune for....
let me know how you go with activesync and gprs...

You cheeky little a-rab. Anyway I'm old enough to have missed tuition fees here in the UK, so my 4 years Honours Degree course was not paid for by yours truley  Hell I even got a grant
Anyway I must say this, you have been more than helpful & understanding of my foul temper! You see my fault is that as an engineer (my wife is now rolling her eyes skyward), when I see things badly designed it just does my head in because it does not take much more effort to make things so much more better - it beggers belief sometimes and I have to wonder if they actually try using some of these God awful programs & drivers - like I may have already mentioned, how is your average guy in the street meant to cope????

Thats not strictly true...
it is running at 640x480, always!!!!
its the font sizes and dpi the applications run at that makes it look like qvga.

one advantage of the GPRS, quizz shows.... you can win the prize competitions by googling whilst in the show, and it doesnt look as obvious and it isnt WAP, it should be full internet access with googling ability.
if you get 3g on the correct plan its reasonably usable and also gives you TSC/RDP connections into your servers whilst on the road. note, beware the standard 3G is voice capable only at 128kbps, but it should be able to and can be requested to run at 384kbps.
either way, i dont really use it either, its simply to expensive. i just run wifi at home and works a treat.

re quizz shows, what i meant was things like quizz nights and business nights out when there are prizes and games such as "the most poisonous snake" or the longest river or biggest river etc etc
you can google this sort of information and get the right answer inside the show. it doesnt stand out as much when you are using a phone rather than a laptop or computer, but with fast internet access you can get the answer 99% of the time, in the time frame.
just dont get caught...

pocket breeze is a today plugin pim system,
i hardly ever use calendar, tasks, inbox, notes, etc thats to pocket breeze,
http://www.sbsh.net/products/pocketbreeze/
take a look and install the demo, it roxx, just get rid of the mail, calendar, tasks plugins from today and use this as an all in one, it hardly impacts performance with the right settings, eg, turn off expand/collapse, turn off the entry counters etc, with these little tweaks its nice and smooth.
reduce the font sizes down aswell, you get vga res text.
personally i think breeze is the best pim management system there is, i tried pocket informant but for impact it had.

Just another question...
The rar file you sent me, erm , now I've installed it now what? Is it a program (if so where is it hiding) or is it a reg hack?
The rar file, is actually a cab file, and can simply be downloaded to your device, and click to run, it will auto install and from that point, not be removable. It was an "O2" release not an Imate release, but works on both.
I dont know what it is, I dont know how it works, but I do know that it stopped my JJ from auto connecting to the internet whenever i clicked or touched something that needed an internet address. It basically stops the device from detecting that the option is available, and thus if the system detects a need, it cant find the connection directly.
It basically set the system to have no internet connection, unless you manually open a connection, eg via WIFI, Bluetooth AS, or manually making the GPRS connection by going start > connections > connections and locating the connection, then press and hold to make the connection. It was so long and convoluted, that it never happened and i never connected using GPRS/3G unless i was desperate (like quizz shows ...
There are other reasons why it connects in the first place and somethings that you need to look at was why was it trying in the first place.
1. Activsync automatically starting as mentioned
2. Pressing the "Web" key on the keyboard, which auto starts PIE, which if you havent changed to \windows\default.thm rather than the default www.clubimate.com or other similar, then it would auto start the GPRS as it "detected" that GPRS was available.
3. MSN Messenger not closing properly and trying to reconnect
4. Closing a WIFI connect when the device hasnt shut down an Internet connection
So, what it is supposed to do is shut the direct availability detection method the system uses. I dont really know how successful it was, but you should now see the removal of the "G" and "U" icon, which should now have a symbol similar in nature to the active connection, but with a cross through it.
In summary, i dont know... it was something that was given to me in this forum months ago as i also got "upset" by the auto connect feature. After adjusting the AS settings, and changing the Internet shortcut button, i didnt need it anymore, and still dont run it on my device as it doesnt auto connect as much anymore at all.
Now, it only auto connects when i click on a link in my email and i dont have wifi open, which was my fault not the device fault for clicking the link in the first place.

Various questions of new smartphone owner

HI even though i'm new to the forums as in making a profile, im not new to this awesome site!
I'll start off by saying that, im very computer litterate, and that the Cingular HTC 8125 is the first smartphone ive ever bought, so please take alittle pity on me as im coming from one of the dumbest basic kyocera phone's, to a phone thats still in the top spots of all smartphones
1) I slid a sim-card that I bought off of ebay(t-mobile) into the sim slot of wizard, and pressed the power button. When coming on it almost goes to the start(today) screen, but skips right to this white screen asking for sim unlock code, and I thought that maybe the numbers on the sim cards CARD would unlock it but no sucess. So ofcourse i came here, seeing on the front page of a program called LOCKIWIZ?
-Could you explain how to do this, as in setting up then executeing, in the most simple as you can get it, not be rude, but me just having this phone for a day, i dont know what things like HKey/System/tools...whatever means yet

3) Could this ActiveSync program possible fix these problems, or other necessities?
4) Since I knew that I was getting this for christmas, I went, and got prepared to use this phone to its potential. So I went found lots of freeware apps.
Total Commander
Calculator98
Arithmetic
VBirthday
Taskmanager
The Core Pack Media Player
Pocket Encarta
Magic Button
MyMoney
XnView player-camera
Winrar
And 2 strategy games; Warring states, and crimson fields
- all of these apps/games, are already on a disk
Will all of these programs fit on a 1gb Mini SD Card?
Will the zip program, I saw in the phones menu help compress?
Which of these programs do you recommend I keep, and/or get rid of?
If any what the better equivalents of some of these programs?
BTW, what's the most simplistic way as to getting these program on to the phone through activesync or will their be instructions/tutorials to guide you?
5) Are we charger for Wi-FI Internet?
In case needed:
ROM: 2.25.11.1 WWE
OS 5.1.195
Sorry for the really long list of questions, but im sure that this thread will many others. And if theirs any of those 4-5 star "Stickys" that I missed sorry, cause I saw that their were about 250 pages!
Thank You!

ActiveSync its used to sincronize elements PC<->PDA, it includes outlook elements (mail, contacts, etc), MS office documents, and other stuff, this can be done manually or automatically... i think it can't solve the unlok problem but anyway it is necessary to install it to work properly with the pda...

YES... I think programs don't take too much space in memory card, mine is full due to some videos, music and those stuff... no problem with programs...

YES but it depends on the file type you requiere to compress; music and videos (big files) doesn´t change too much when compressed... but txt, docs and others get better rates...

There are lot of options, but freeware is a good option, the progs in list are normally included in custom roms but there are a lot more to test...

Normally you can install them with activesync from the desktop but I think you will prefer to get the cab and install progs directly on the phone...

I can't help about unloking because i bought my cingular SIM unlocked...
Thank You very much jorgejs!!!
Youve really helped, and thanks for posting!
Im already getting more experienced with my My WIZARD!
like today I amazingly unlocked it! so it could work with my t-mobile SIM, and i've only had it for 2 days
Now I plan to try and upgrade my phone to WM6!, eventhough i dont see anything wrong with WM5?
But my memory card still wont "install" itself, eventhough I bought a USB Sync cable today, and uploaded a few apps?
Well thanks again
If their were a rep system i'd +rep

Omnia 7 as a portable USB drive

- Open Windows Registry Editor by typing regedit in your start menu
- Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\
- Then go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USB (and not the other ControlSet01 or 02 if you have them) and then search for ZuneDriver.
under VID_045E&PID_04EC&MI_00
In Device parameters
- Change ShowInShell from 0 to 1 <- this enable Windows Explorer to show the device when pluged in
- Change PortableDeviceNameSpaceExcludeFromShell from 1 to 0
- Change EnableLegacySupport from 0 to 1 <- this enables Windows Explorer to detect the device
Plugin the phone to pc, close zune and The result will be this:
(sorry for my bad English)
If you change PortableDeviceType key to 3
your device is now mobile phone not multimedia player

I try with my Mozart but I can't
got 2 questions and a request
1. have u seen any problems after doing this?
2. can you create a folder and add stuff to it?
can you place pictures of the files?
not working
I have tried that with my Samsung Omnia 7 and I can't see the content.
and thats for both of the devices that are visible in my computer.

Haven't tried this hack myself but with the zune software I think it's not really necessary and quoting once again joe belfiore:
"Windows Phone is not a mass storage device. It’s a Zune device. The data on the phone must be consistent, and needs to be able to identify items in storage. We don’t want the user to have to do that stuff manually. Yes, some may want to. But we wanted a synchronization system that was simple and easy and does metadata mappings automatically"

I have absolutely no problem with it, sync is working perfectly and it's something different at least compared to mass storage where you need to copy all data "manually". Nevertheless microsoft will probably implement a way to use WP7 also as such a device.

i do. i want to be able to transfer any file to/from the device. zune software can't help me, because it accepts just a few file types (like media and pictures).
what if any applications need to use files of a certain type? how can i supply it with files then?
i just don't understand.
I have a problem with it too. I don't use Windows on my PC, I use Ubuntu, so cannot use the zune software!
Either MS needs to realise that they can't force people to use their OS or at least give people an option.

most likely an app that needs such files knows very well that it can't get them over zune, and provides the way to feed it (most likely a cloud solution, or something).
Hello. I'm trying to do the same, I have a dell venue pro. I searched all xda topics and find this thread.
I did exactly same steps, and i see 2 dell venue pro icons in my computer, but each is empty, i tried disconnect my phone and exit zune, then connect again, still same. there is no PortableDeviceType key.
what should I do?
I have a hd2 with wp7 and a 16gb microsd card, could i just take out the card put it into my pc transfer some files and then pop it back into the phone? would this work?

can't transfer word files from tab to pc via usb

So was using officepro for a while to type reports. I then put them on my usb stick put it in the pc at work and print. Then as of last week this no longer works for me. Now when i open them on pc the word file is blank regardless of what format (2003 or 2007) i saved. Same happens on my home pc. Perfect on the tab, blank on the pc. What gives? Any help would be appreciated.

Ok,, you're a Dimwit, and nobody else has these issues.
(you asked for it).
Use Polaris Office.
You can get the apk by unzipping any of the roms that have it included.
Install the apk,. then, I believe there are 2 polaris files, you also have to copy to the system directory. You can google and find what and where. I just can't remember offhand.
Oh, and one more thing, make sure your stick is formatted to FAT32 through your pc.
Tried polaris but it won't save in 2003 format for the crappy pc at work. Never thought about the usb fat32 possibility but then been using the same stick under same conditions for a few months with no issues. Thanks for the tip anyway. Oh ..and the insult, I did ask for it.
Quick Office allows you to save in WD 2003 or 2007 and works much better than Office Pro. Give it a try.
hate to just suggest another app option, but also try Docs2Go
I use it and have had no problems transferring and opening the files on any PC's despite what format the Word file is in.

Thanks but it seems it was a usb unmounting issue. I usually just pull out the stick but after unmounting properly the files are unharmed. Not fully sure why but I'm happy now so that's the important thing, right?
