how did you root your phone? the root.sh method or the ./gfree method. And what hBoot variant do you have?.
If you have a .85/.86 bootloader and used the root.sh method you can use the PD15IMG.zip to unroot and s-on the phone.
if you used the ./gfree method you need ADB or terminal access.

I'm pretty sure I used the gfree method, bootloader is .86 . So farthe guides ive looked at need both adb and terminal , any way to use only adb?

HTC I don't know but Tmobile will accept broken rooted phones, as long as you don't make it obvious. I'm guessing your phone cannot boot, so you should be fine.

[Q] S-OFF after using Visionary r14

Could someone explain to me or point me to a thread that explains how to get S-OFF after permarooting with the r14 visionary + build?
I just used the s-off guide in the android development section and it worked perfect.
Go on youtube and search for "visionary g2", there is a guy on their called blackprice that has a step by step video on how to perm root and s-off the phone.
Good Luck.
Thanks, but I need someone to explain to me how to use adb with a mac. Every guide out seems to be for windows

In the video, black prince actually shows how to do it on the phone itself with terminal emulator.
Awesome, thanks
So I have followed the instructions from blackprice and they seemed to work, I was able to do the S-OFF. However, when using SetCPU I get this message:
Root Access Not Detected
SetCPU could not obtain root
access. Did you allow SetCPU
through Superuser
Permissions? (the answer is yes) If you checked
Superuser Permissions and SetCPU still cannot get root,
there may be a permissions
issue with your ROM.
Please advise...
Thanks
Use visionary and attempt perm root. I had the same problem but this fixed it. Wait for someone else to confirm this though.

Also get rom manager from the market and falsh clockwork recovery.
Perm root and the reboot, and visionary should stick.
Thanks! Both of you.

If you google then you will come across some good guides to use ADB on mac
So to confirm with what you are stating, S-OFF but still not accessing root permissions. Re-apply perm root in Visionary, let it reboot, and it should stick. Correct?

[Q]Perm Root

Can someone help me perm root my mytocuh4g. half of these guide i dont understand... wth is SDK tool dictionary? My S-off but im temp root and Rom manager keep telling me to root my device.... ugh im just annoyed can someone tell me there method of there way of rooting there device rather then linking me to a guide...
Well, the guides typically work. Where are you having trouble?
You said you can temp root, are you using Visionary? And you got s=off, so that means you are basically done with a lot of the hard part.
If you go into a terminal, can you do a "su" command to get superuser?
I rooted mine at work without ever using a computer if you need specific instructions pm me ill send them to you

I just can't do this been at it for 8 Hours!!!

Ok, So i've spoke with 2 people from XDA Over the Phone today both tell me to do Sdk However I am not willing to increase the risk of bricking my phone. So please do not suggest sdk,
Here's My issue,
I'm using Visionary 14r I tryed looking for 11 I just can't find it. I've ran the visionary to temp root then went into termenal after temp root was complete (And yes the temp root works I have tested it) and I ran these codes as follows
Su (Works)
cd sdcard/Root (I've done it with both the slash in front as well and witout it so do not try and correct me because it dosen't effect how it runs)
sh root.sh (Runs the kernel)
So I get the exact same thing as what I see on the youtube videos, Then I go back into visionary and run Perm Root and it will reboot my phone and when I go into Termenal and type Su for super user I get access Denied, I have tryed tons of alternatives and I have verifyed that it is 2.2.1, I've tryed Rebooting it and checking to see if S is off and its not, I'm trying to install the ultimate droid rom in it but since I can't get into recovery because of it not being rooted it wont allow me to do anything,. I have copyed the root folder to My sd card at the bottom still wont perm root. ANy tips? or if someone wants to give me a call my numbers 503 438 6765 any help is much appreciated

Yeah some phones don't seem to work with the 'traditional' root methods but all seem to work with this method, so I would definitely give it a try.

First, I've used VISIONary r14 many times on multiple Glaciers without problem. It should work just fine.
Second, setting up the SDK is not hard. Whoever gave you the idea that the SDK increases the risk of bricking your device is a moron. In fact, the SDK comes with some *very* useful tools that can help you recover if your phone starts running into problems. You don't need it to root your device, but it certainly won't hurt to at least install the tools/platform-tools (you don't need the entire SDK if you don't want it).
Third, I suggest using gfree instead of root.sh because it does much more. I also suggest flashing the engineering bootloader (instructions in same thread) so that you can use fastboot (this is one of those SDK tools I was talking about). Be careful when you enter that command or you could really screw yourself.
You Dont need SDK... Just download the EASY ADB as it works just Fine. Visionary R 14 Will give you a Perm Root, just use it with terminal emulator it is Easy. The Eng. Bootloader is a must have. You can also use the g free method either one is fine. Always remember that you can Always go back to stock if needed with the PD15IMG.zip.
i've tried the both the visionary and the gfree way and i think theres something up with the root.sh files or something happened to the roms themselves to not work properly though the gfree version worked 100%. and honestly if your not comfortable with ADB pushing then your going to miss out on alot of stuff for MT4G especially if you want to be cutting edge MT4g.

I logged in just so I could comment on this..it annoyed me that much. Being as I use to have an EVO and Sprint, the myTouch was EASIER to root then the EVO and is over all a much more capable phone once rooted. I used gfree and it was CAKE to root my phone...it is now fully carrier unlocked and basically brick proof due to the EBL 85.2007. I've been on the EVO forums (my roommate has one still and I'm his flasher) and there is a crap load of outdated ROMS and mods that if you aren't careful what you are mixing and matching you will end up with a bootlooped phone. Not the case with the myTouch everything here is kept well up to date and accurate. Not sure why you felt the need to post this but it was unneeded and well off topic.

returned replacement phone... PLEASE HELP -- NEED TEMP ROOT UNDER STOCK FROYO NO ADB

OK.... I said f*ck it to the replacement phone.... DOn't want it... Can't root it... (besides I found out it had the ****ty screen that is manufactured in Taiwan, not China). Further, I want to root it now and I cannot do it with stock gingerbread. Sending back replacement phone today...
BUT....Unfortunately, I restored Froyo to my old phone. So now I have an unrooted phone, with Android 2.2.1.
But.... I STILL DO NOT HAVE THE ABILITY TO CONNECT VIA USB TO USE ADB
I cannot use any wifi adb methods as they all require root.
I cannot use Visionary for temp root as the cyanogen root page wiki says it should be uninstalled.
Nonetheless, I copied all of the needed files to my sdcard, so I am ready....
BUT I NEED TEMP ROOT FROM THE EMULATOR.
Does anyone know how to get temp root for FROYO through the emulator only??.....OR, another Visionary type apk which will give me temp root???
Sorry can"t help on your problem, but how did you restore stock froyo? Had the same replacement prob, sent it back to T-mobile, called CS told them about issues, they're sending a MT4GSlide, call CS you might get lucky like I did
use the "how to root.sh root your phone".
i used that in the T-Mobile store to root my before i left the store when i bought the device.

The phone I restored to stock Froyo was my old phone... It was rooted already. I just wanted to restore it to a factory condition so I wouldn't have any problems returning my old, and rooted/heavily modded phone to TMO.
So I just took the .img that you can download from this thread LINK
Then you just make sure it is on the root of your sdcard, then boot into hboot by holding the volume down while pressing the power button. It will boot and think it is an "update", but it will just restore it to the stock.
Obviously this cannot be done from 2.3.4 because it realizes it is an old version... If you have a phone with stock 2.3.4 you have to trick it into letting you downgrade from gingerbread to froyo using this thread: LINK

That's great! But I told them about the fact I solved my wifi problem.... Besides, I already tried to shake them down for a Sensation... no go.
The Slide version looks great... Better camera and faster.... But for now, I will stick with the 4G regular unless I get another issue....
My solution (in another thread) to my wifi problem requires you select "wifi only" under the wifi calling app. If this becomes really problematic and inconvenient, I will call them back... Will try to get a Sensation again or a 4G Slide then.

Z4Root is another app that might work on Froyo.
You can manually execute psneuter or rageagainstthecage from Terminal Emulator. Search Google, it'll guide you for both.
Or you could just not listen to CM Wiki, and use Visionary.
I think Visionary screws things up pretty badly.... I found this out the hard way.
I think I have done a hard reset (removed battery + factory reset) about 8 times so far.
I have been using a combination of Visionary, followed by a root.sh script from this link. Then I do get root.... but it is tremendously precarious.
I then uninstall Visionary, use ADBwireless as I have root now and proceed to follow the Cyanogen instructions.....
But then... whenever I have to run psneuter, it boots me out of the adb shell and I have to start everything all over again.... I have to do a factory reset to get Visionary to work that one f*cking precious time.
I just tried it again just now (I have been modifying steps and things to get it to work)... And now... every time I do a factory reset and run visionary, I don't get a Superuser Root... I get "UNKNOWN USER ROOT" in the emulator.... I have know idea what that means, but it is not root....
I have been at this for days and losing my mind. I cannot believe I can't root this phone.... especially now in Froyo... Without a god**mn USB CABLE!!!

Hey... I had a thought..
Since I have nandroid backups... If I get a Visionary root (if I can....), can I just restore my phone with one of them... I mean those backups are all simunlock, eng hboot, radio =111111111, etc. full root.
But... I thought I would ask so I do not have to do another 15 hard resets to figure out that it doesn't work.

no, because VISIONary.apk only gives root access, not S-off. S-off is needed to flash Clockworkmod Recovery, which is needed to flash the backups.

Thanks... and for whatever reason... even though I think I rooted my phone successfully, I cannot restore any of my nandroid backups... I get an error in Rom Manager.... and while in recovery, I get an error of "files missing".
Now I cannot even boot the phone. It is stuck at the myTouch Splash.
I am so f*cking tired of doing this... Nothing has worked--
I cannot believe I reset this phone to Froyo in anticipation of sending it back....
I ended up keeping it because it had the better screen and because I thought I had solved my wifi problem...
I am without a phone at all at this point.

I finally managed to do it. But it took a lot of trial and error.
I learned:
You can only be rely on exactly 1 temp root from visionary after a factory reset. Any more and you are getting lucky.
Visionary definitely should be uninstalled before following that guide.
I may make a guide after belabouring 17 hours to accomplish this.
I guess I am lucky... If TMO had sent me a phone with a good screen, I would have been tempted to keep that one. If I did, it would have been stock 2.3.4, and I would probably not have root yet.

I want to root my phone but im running on 2.3.4? do i need to downgrade to root if so how

Go there to downgrade.
If the links don't work search. If no one flames you for asking this question it will be a miracle. Good luck with the downgrade. Remember - copy/paste is your friend.
thanks for quick reply
but i can skip all those step straight to downgrade right?
also im trying to do Manual Downgrade.. i put the PD15IMG.zip rom to sdcard
but where do i put > adb reboot bootloader ?
The steps are laid out for each device. Skip nothing. adb reboot bootloader is a command given to adb. You will need to install adb and use it to run a program (fr3vo?) that uses an exploit to gain temp root. Then copy/paste commands to fool your phone into thinking its bootloader and firmware are older than 2.2.1. Once that is done you can flash the froyo PD15IMG.zip. Don't do this until you understand a little more. You may brick your phone otherwise.
Read the guide. Look up anything that doesn't make sense. Then read the guide again.
im at the downgrade step now
where can i get 2.2.1 firmware?
and how can my phone get bricked again?
when i go to backup with titanium backup,
it says no root access and i followed every step from beginning successfully
what is wrong?
probably because u are temp rooted?
Are u on 2.34 still or 2.2.1?

You achieved S-OFF. It ISN'T root. It's REQUIRED FOR ROOT, but it doesn't make your phone rooted.
Now root, flash the recovery of your choice (CWM/4EXT) and flash any custom ROM you want. The guide has all that laid out.
And please, stop asking questions that have been answered a zillion times. Use your eyes to READ. And if you think you don't understand something - READ AGAIN, until you do.
