Ok Fellas! just got my phone last night, rooted it installed the stock froyo JK4.
I come from htc desire so my recovery was bit different installed rom manager & got cloworkmod 2.5.1.2.
Downloaded a rom on phone, rebooted into recovery, but this recovery has purplish text instead of green & there is no install from SD. I cant think of any thing at the moment can some one please help, I wanna install some other rom, other than the stock froyo. PLEASE HELP.
You need to install clockwork revory if you go to the rom manager application there will be an option to flash clock recovery right at the top when you open the application hope this claers things up
yep i did sir, but still there is no option to install from sd, it only allows me to install as update.
from teh rom manager im selecting Galaxy S I9000 for clockwork recovery and it successfully downloads and when i press reboot into recovery its still takes me to the purple screen....i think this means that im not able to get into clockwork recovery any help.??
you have to select 'install update.zip' the first time, this will install clockworkmod and then you can proceed.
The problem is your using 3e recovery and cwm will not work with 3e.
To get 2e recovery you will have to use odin and flash a kernel that has 2e recovery, I suggest hardcores kernal as it comes with cwm already , from there you can install what ever custom rom you want using.the update.zip or installing zip from sd.

the best way to get clockwork working on i9000m (personally i believe)
is to flash the kernel for Speedmod... you should see it in development forum... just flash that kernel with odin
and your recovery will work fine

Hey man thanks alot, do you mind pasting a link here. If you kindly can please and thanks again.

There are a few things i could suggest.
1. Keep your flashing to a minimum if you have the i9000m. There is a high probability that your phone's memory card is defective and you'll ruin it by accessing it more often. Froyo broke lots of bell phones, and being a rom junky means more flash activity. I am on my second phone, but some people are up to their fifth. Flash a good stable rom and dont go too crazy flashing after that
2. download ODIN, and most 3rd party kernels have 2e i think (http://touristinparadise.blogspot.com/2010/11/samsung-galaxy-s-download-speedmod.html) - pretty sure speedmod does. voodoo also does, all kernels can be found in the dev section easily
Just make sure you download the ODIN version of the kernel and not the CWM file, because since you dont have CWM already, you'll not be able to use it.
There is a problem with USB mounting your sd cards on your pc without patching, since you are running a stock 2.2, so you would need the patch unless you go to a 2.2.1 rom
3. 2.2.1 runs nicer than 2.2, but i havent flashed to a JPY because i am paranoid about my second i9000m dying before i get a backup phone . You may want to flash a jpy mod (like doc rambone's, or darky's), but if you have battery life problems flash a different modem, like the JK4 modem used in bell's latest official rom

Oh crap! really, i think imma sell this phone rite away then, cus coming fro desire im a rom junky. I guess this aint the rite phone from me.
Yeah, there are massive known problems with internal memory on these phones. I'm already on my second, and if i have more issues, i'll be buying the international i9000 from ncix.com. same phone, no internal memory problems.

BTW, if you like our work, buy us a beer
I am currently running gojimi vegan ginger rc1. What will I have to do if I want to go back, and how are storage partitions mapped on this Rom ?
cool! can't wait to try this. waiting patiently for rom to be uploaded and installation instructions to be posted...
Can't wait to finally try this when I get a few days off!
Question: After trying this and having the bootloader upgraded, will I be able to easily revert back to Clemsyn -Calkulin 1.5 with the new bootloader or will I have to nvflash?
I had to use nflash to go between the two bootloaders. My apps are usually remaining or you can use Titanium to get them back.
Awesome build running smooth already glad someone posted this here

Thanks for posting it here Clemsyn. I really didn't want to sign up for another forum so I can ask question haha.
Anyways, when you say gmail is working, is it fully functional? I thought there were shader (or something like that) issues that prevented us to see the body of the email.
Also, is flash in the browser working?
Those are my two must haves if I am going to switch to HC.
Thanks in advance.

No flash yet. There is a hacked gmail.apk that works fine. I am using it now, and only flash is not working of everything I personally use. The devs are very close now.
I apologize for the delay, it wasn't done uploading yet and I needed to go to my kid's science project (he won 5th place). Just got home so I posted the link on first page. BTW, gmail is also fixed.

actually flash is technically working just fine...it's the opengl shader issues causing it not to display properly...opengl is also causing the gmail app issues (alt app in place as a temp fix, now) and opengl issues are causing a few other apps to have issues as well...once opengl is resolved then this will be a practically perfect build, imo been running it for about a week now with all the updating and love it!!

Thanks clemsyn for sharing this, so whats the difference between this and Roebeets versions released on slatedriod ?
hey, clemsyn...when you get back online, I have a question for you. A lot of the current talk in the Adam dev chat is that a .36 or newer kernel will resolve many of the current issues (OpenGL specifically)...I was wondering if maybe you had a newer version kernel in the works or not for the gtab? If so, how's it coming along? If not, how tough do you think it would be to develop a .36 version of the kernel? Thanks for everything, man. Have a good one.
Is Dolphin HD working on this?
Thanks to clemsyn & roebeet for porting this from the Adam.

Hey Roebeet, its been awhile but I'm back and ready for HoneyComb. I folowed your directions. I used NvFlash to get back to 3588. I then installed CWM .08 and partitioned internal 2048 and 0. I put the zip on internal and installed via CWM. Now it hangs on the viewsonic white screen? Any Ideas?
Theres already a 2.3.32.40 overclocked kernal out. Is that not what you are wanting?

it's 2.6.32.40...the 40 is the version number of the .32 kernel...they are looking for a x.x.36.x kernel to possibly resolve the issues with opengl...

I think this guys issue stems from the fact that he installed cwm. This rom needs to be installed with the stock bootloader.
Well I have the same issue, I wiped, but nothing. When I flashed the file, it said unknown command bootloader, bla bla.
Pretty sure thats the issue, I was running 3588 ...dont know whats up.
I get the same results with the unknown command bootloader. I've tried wiping all data after the installing the rom and the gtab still gets hung up. This is coming from using nvflash to 3588 and a repartition.
I know this has been asked before, but I am still a little confused and would be rather grateful for some advice.
I am running stock 3.1 - trimmed out a lot of default Acer apps, Netflix patch, root.
Would love to be able to give this a bit of a overclock, I have experience with custom ROMs, but never changed the kernel. I have CWM installed and ready.
My questions:
1) What kernel is recommended for me? I use multiple USB devices quite often, as well as my GPS - want to over clock but don't want to loose any support for things I use daily From what I can see, Richardtrip's kernal seems like the best option - anyone have any other sugesstions? Really, all I am wanting to do is overclock a touch.
2) How do I backup the current Kernal? Does a full nandroid backup in CWM take care of that? If not, what do I do?
3) After backup, I simple install new kernal by placing on microsd and booting from cwm and installing update.zip from SD, right? Will my modified lib.so in /system/lib (the file modified by the Netflix patch) cause issues with doing this?
Many thanks in advance, xda peoples. Hope you are all having a great week out there!
the only Kernel for stock rom's hich is 100% is richardtrips, you can use setCPU to change the o/c values. you can find it in the dev section.
all you need is put the zip on your external sd-card and load it with cwm.

i'm making a note here - huge success
Full nandroid backup is done - installed richardtrip's custom kernel via cwm without any issues. Set to 1400 MHz and omfg my iconia is like a brand new system again - thank you all for your support and help with this.
Also about to root an A500 with HoneyVillian. Just a few questions before I do. Like the thread starter, I've rooted before but never changed the kernel so I want to be sure I'm not going to bork my tablet.
I guess what I'm really wondering are the steps to take. Let me see if I have this right:
1: Get root via iconiaroot v 1.3
2: Boot into recovery using Acer Recovery Tool from the marketplace.
3: Have richard's kernel on my SD card and run it from recovery.
4: Tablet re-boots.
5: Head back to recovery using above app and load ROM in recovery mode.
Again, I've rooted and loaded Honeyvillian before so no big deal there but just want to make sure I'm changing the kernel in the right order.
Thanks for the help!

Sweetness. You answered the question i posted indirectly too. Nice nice nice
folks, my a500 is overheating .. is getting too hot near the Dock Connector ...
is without overclocking, began in the ROM v10 ... already installed a four roms and the error still continues,
currently with honeyvillian, I leave with the original stock which is 3.0.1
I try the same way as was done to use mod 3.2, and does not work
... only shows the current version
well ..
current version: 1.0.1 Honey Villian ...
New Verson: N / A
I want to install the original version to send assistance to repair the high temperature

You're not flashing your Rom correctly. I told you this in Thor's forum (at least the exact post was there also, so I suspect it's you, if it's not you, then accept my apologies ).
The reason it keeps telling you that a certain Rom/kernel is installed, is because it seems like you're just flashing one over the top of another without cleaning anything out. This is why your cpu overheats. You've got a corrupted OS.
Also, a Kernel image is not a Rom. And there are 2 types of kernels. 1 for a stock rom, and 1 for a cooked rom. You shouldn't mix the 2 or you may get problems depending on the rom. Another reason why your cpu overheats.
Do this. Put your SD in your PC's card reader, and format it to Fat32. Reason, is that I have absolutely no idea what you have on your sd. Update.zips, Kernels, Roms, etc.
Copy your VillainRom or Revolver Rom or Taboonay Rom (or whatever rom you want to use) to your SD, then put it back in your 500.
When you flash a new rom, you boot to CWM.
Wipe User Data
Wipe Cache Partition
Goto Advanced and Wipe Delvik
I like to do each a couple of times, just to be sure.
Then go back to the previous menu, and select "Install zip from sd"
Choose your rom and install it.
All three of the above roms come with a cooked kernel so you shouldn't have to mess with kernels.
Also, if you wish to install a different cooked kernel, you only need to wipe Delvik before installing.
Also, Install the rom first and let it run for awhile before installing a kernel. Never do both at the same time.
And the final rule, if you used a backup program like Titanium Backup or any of the others, Never Ever backup and restore system files to a different rom.
But, if you want to put it back to stock, the I suppose you can use the acer recovery tool to flash a stock acer rom and flash the stock recovery image. For more info, see this thread;

I have the Y cable and a USB battery pack. I'd like to get OTG to work with any 5.0 or 5.1 based ROM (even stock would be fine). I've tried installing CM 12.1 and a couple different kernels and haven't had any luck so far. I know that my flash drive is getting power because the light blinks. Can someone walk me through exactly how to do this?
Some of the questions I'm having:
* I'm not exactly clear on which kernels have OTG, which do not, and if an additional patch is required. I've done some searching and a lot of the information is old (for Android 4.X.X).
* Once I install a kernel thats supposed to have OTG support, do I need to enable it somewhere? In some cases I've tried installing Synapse, but I haven't found an option for it.
* Do I need to install any additional apps to use it? If not, how will I know that its working? Will any notifications show up when I plug in a USB device? Will my flash drive show up in the Cyanogenmod file manager?
So I finally got OTG to work with an older kernel (hells-Core-b47-kk from this thread). Problem is now the colors blue and red are swapped on screen. This is probably because its an old kernel for Android 4 and I'm on CM 12.1. Anyways, at least I was able to answer some of my own questions.
You do need to install additional apps. CM's built in file manager is useless. When you plug in a device, there will only be a notification if an associated app is installed. ES File Explorer works with flash drives.
I've tried Hell's Doctor, Matr1x, AK, and Franco's and haven't had any luck with any of them. Can someone point me at a 5.0 or 5.1 kernel that they know works, or tell me what I might be doing wrong?
Have you tried stick mount by chainfire?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Free mobile app
Stickmount works for mounting flash drives but I mainly wanted OTG for other devices, so that doesn't really help.

Colors swapped becase you most probably flashed AOSP version on CM, try flashing the latest stable b69 CM VARIANT
I see. Thanks. I kinda did the opposite and flashed stock 5.1 and the patched b47 kernel. I couldn't find anything that said mainline hell's core does OTG. Does it?
Ok I finally figured this out. Heres everything I did:
Flash Factory 5.1 Image
Flash CWM Recovery
Root
Install Quanta v2 AOSP Kernel
Install Quanta Tweaks
Enable OTG in Quanta Tweaks
Install USB Host Diagnostics by Chainfire
Run diagnostics. It will detect an issue and magically fix it.

Thanks for the detailed information! A couple of days ago I flashed Quanta V6 kernel on Euphoria but I got plenty of app crashes and ended up wiping and reflashing all the phone. I will give another try next weekend, with a proper nand backup first.
Is there some way to do what QuantaTweaks does to enable OTG via an adb shell?
I have a Nexus 4 with a broken touch screen but I would like to work with it until I can get a new touchscreen.

This worked great! Have you found anything that works with marshmallow. I am open to flashing new ROM or kernel. Spent a lot of time on this alas. I have tried Chroma ROM with taurus, quanta v10, hells-core but had not luck.
After you do the above procedure do you still need a USB Power Y Cable or you can connect directly a USB stick to N4?
Nexus 4 with Android 5.1 OTG
Hi
I thought I would add my solution for Nexus 4 with Android 5.1
After rooting I used the Matr1x kernel (http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/orig-development/kernel-matr1x-v13-5-kk-4-4-t2007231
& http://matr1xkernels.com/matr1x-news/matr1x-kernel-for-android-5-0-lollipop )
This kernel has the OTG already added as well as lots of other tweaks - so far it seems OK with 5.1.1
I also had to do the trick with USB Diagnostic tool and let it try to "fix" the problem - it seems to add a missing file in the permissions directory
( https://github.com/452/USBHIDTerminal/wiki/How-to-enable-USB-host-API-support)
As far as I read the main reason that OTG was removed from the Nexus 4 was because it wasnt able to power the devices correctly.
So I would definately recommend using a powered OTG Hub.
Hope that helps someone
Thanks
Adrian
