So that 16gb sd card that comes with the phone, is that the only memory the phone has? Will it run without the card? My wife just got one and she doesn't need all that much space. I was thinking of putting an 8gb in the surround and keeping the 16gb card for my Evo.
I don't mind taking it apart, I just want to know if I remove the card will it screw everything up.
Thanks.

Thanks for the quick reply!
Windows users, pfft.
So yes, you can void the warranty and take it apart to swap the cards.
No, I don't think the phone will fully boot without one.
Yes, removing the original card will make it unusable in other devices (besides formatting it with a nokia phone)
So it is possible, just make yourself aware of the risks involved.
Naaa I think I'll leave it alone.
why go to all the trouble for a smaller SD Card ?
Why worry about downgrading the SD memory in the phone just to get a lousy 8 gb back? Heck at the price of SD cards these days.....go out and buy whatever size you want for your EVO.
Now....if it were the other way around.....expanding memory in the phone....then maybe, maybe, the juice would be worth the squeeze.

yeah, Looks like my card. I was able to pop it into my PC and run scandisk to recover some of the contents only to watch the card corrupt again. I bought a kingston thinking that I couldn't go wrong there, but I guess I was wrong.
That would be the perfect SD card to go with my today screen:
and no it's not photoshopped! (But neither is it accurate I hope!!!!!!!!)
Does negative priority on tasks mean I would gain more by not doing them??

Hello.
I have a 1gb minisd card, and it's some kind blocked...
I dont see card in the phone. How can I format card from phone? I dont have a mini sd reader...
please help.. I'm newbie.
I'm pretty sure you NEED an SD card reader. You need to format the card (as FAT, not FAT 32), and you need to be able to transfer files to it at a rate somewhat better than the rate at which molasses pours in Canada in January. These things point to buying yourself a card reader (and they're cheap, usually less than $10USD).
The other possibility (and if you didn't like that one, you're really going to hate this one) is that your card slot is worn, dirty, or damaged. Remove the card and get in there with a high powered flashlight, a magnifying glass, and a can of air, and make sure your contacts are clean, and the slot has no debris. It may be easier in the long run to disassemble the unit to get to this area, unless you're like me and keep a handy set of dental picks around for...dentistry...on electronics.

Yeah, that's the ticket.
If none of this helps, it's possible your internal connections are damaged, or it's possible that your SD card is toast (even right out of the box, it happens).
i used wm5torage, and hp format utility and it work'd for me
what is this expansion slot
is it internal expansion slot for memory or what

maybe its not? maybe it is a extra slot
i suspect its to do with Windows mobile rather than the X2. if you look in other applications like Sktools theres mention of IR ports and all manner of things that the X2 doesnt have. WM is used on many phones so has to take everything into account. i dont think theres a secret expansion port hidden away!! lol. its just a generic message thats not applicable in our case.
actualy the headphone socket doubles up as the tv out... outside chance it could be referring to that??
Just purchased a Galaxy S7 Edge. I enabled data encryption and forgot about it. Slapped the SD card back into my old phone as I was waiting for a new case to arrive before I used it.
Swapped the SD card back into the Galaxy S7 Edge and now it cannot detect any of the old photos. Thousands of them. Gone!
When I stick the SD card back into the old phone, it sees all the photos but it just have a "question mark" on it. Cannot view the photos, but its there....
Swapped it back to the Galaxy S7 edge where I encrypted the card, and NOTHING.
I am decrypting the sd card right now on the S7, lets see if that fixes it. Anyone else?
looks like phone cannot decrypt the card. Stuck on "checking sd card".
Under the advice of Samsung support and Tmobile, I did a factory reset and that accomplished nothing.
Now, All I see is.

Do they still have different file sizes on them for example, over 1mb in size? If not and they are all around less than half a mb, then you have lost all your photos and can't do much to get them back because you encrypted them.
Do your pics sync to the cloud? Maybe you can find them there.
Lesson learned, backup your photos.
I just noticed that my SD card name automatically change to something like this. See screenshot.

It happens two three times for me.
I just formated the sd card and done a factory reset . Now it's ok . I don't know whether it is a virus or not
I just noticed this same problem on Elephone P9000. SD card (formatted as portable storage) suddenly lost its name 'samsung SD card', and became:
,%%@M-kM-^\-^K^SJb^J
For the rest it seems fully functional. Anybody any clue why is this?
